Abstract:
This paper seeks to examine the outlook of the Serbian Minister in London, Mateja Mata Boskovic, during the first half of the Great War on the South Slav (Yugoslav) question - a unification of all the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in a single state, which was Serbia?s war aim. He found himself in close contact with the members of the Yugoslav Committee, an organisation of the irredentist Yugoslav ?migr?s from Austria-Hungary in which two Croat politicians, Frano Supilo and Ante Trumbic, were leading figures. In stark contrast to other Serbian diplomats, Boskovic was not enthusiastic about Yugoslav unification. He suspected the Croat ?migr?s, especially Supilo, of pursuing exclusive Croat interests under the ruse of the Yugoslav programme. His dealings with them were made more difficult on account of the siding of a group of British ?friends of Serbia?, the most prominent of which were Robert William Seton-Watson and Henry Wickham Steed, with the Croat ?migr?s. Though not opposed in principle to an integral Yugoslav unification, Boskovic preferred staunch defence of Serbian Macedonia from Bulgarian ambitions and the acquisition of Serb-populated provinces in southern Hungary, while in the west he seems to have been content with the annexation of Bosnia-Herzegovina, part of Slavonia and an outlet to the Adriatic Sea in Dalmatia. Finally, the reception of and reaction to Boskovic?s reports on the part of the Serbian Prime Minister, Nikola Pasic, clearly shows that the latter was determined to persist in his Yugoslav policy, despite the Treaty of London which assigned large parts of the Slovene and Croat lands to Italy and made the creation of Yugoslavia an unlikely proposition. In other words, Pasic did not vacillate between the ?small? and the ?large programme?, between Yugoslavia and Greater Serbia, as it has been often alleged in historiography and public discourse.

Abstract:
Over the centuries, young girls from the hinterland of Dubrovnik often went to Dubrovnik to serve in wealthy homes in order to provide for their basic living needs or sometimes even for their dowry. The position of this female population, which people of Dubrovnik called - spravljenice, cupe or godisnjice, was very unfavorable, although within literature they were presented as activists who fought for their rights. After the legalization of the Serbian Orthodox Church community in 1790, affluent Serbian families moved to Dubrovnik. These families significantly participated in the economic recovery of Dubrovnik during the next century. As a successful economic community, the Orthodox Serbs tried to provide a school for their children, which they finally succeeded in 1831 with a permanent teacher, George Nikolajevic. Girls also attended the school founded by Nikolajevic. This was the case until 1879, when in Dubrovnik was founded Bozo Boskovic Women?s school. Young women from Dubrovnik were also educated within the Association of Serbian Women from Dubrovnik, led by Teodora Boskovic. Hence, this article will present the process of education of Dubrovnik Orthodox Serbian women in the period from 1831 to the second decade of the twentieth century.

Classical philologist Darinka Grabovac dedicated the main part of her work to translat?ing and publishing Ragusean latinists. Besides the opus of Didak Pir and Rudjer Boskovic, she especially concentrated on the greatest Ragusean latinist-Ilija Crijevic. Her work includes translations of this poet and also analyses his theoretical tract. Her poetic works are Rhetoric and poetic in works of Ilija Crijevic and Aelius Lampridius Cervinus (1463-1520). Praelectio in explicationem Propertii. In the other group there is epic work De Epidauro and four ?oratio funebris-es? (to Ivan (Dzivo) Gucetic, Junije Sorkocevic, Matija Korvin and Pavla Dzamanjic). The studies of Darinka Grabovac are significant because they express thorough a point of wiev to Crijevics ?oratio funebris-es? significant persons and their work in the Republic of Ragusa.

Astrotourism is a specific, new and perspective form of tourism which stands out from the mass tourist movement with special program that includes visits to astronomical observatories, with required astronomical observations. his form of tourism is considered to be "niche tourism" or special form of tourism which is intended for individuals or small groups, creating a diversity of offers in destinations. Astrotourism is now a modest, but not negligible part of the tourist destinations that wish to enrich its tourist offer. Like other small countries, Serbia has no spectacular planetarium, giant observatories and telescopes, but there are sufficient resources, with an interesting history, on the basis of which it can offer to astrotourists original programs whose carrier should be Astronomical Society "Rudjer Boskovic" in collaboration with the Astronomical Observatory in Belgrade.

Abstract:
This paper investigates the phenomenon of additive plural morphology being used to denote the associative plural in a variety of languages. A novel empirical generalization is proposed: Languages with identical additive and associative plural morphology lack free standing definite articles. This follows a line of generalizations made by Boskovic (2008, 2012), who argues that languages without free standing definite articles do not project the DP layer, though the proposed generalization groups affixal article languages with languages without articles (see also Talic (2017)). I propose a new analysis of associative plurals that yields the empirical generalization for free. I argue that Num, the position of additive plural morphology, moves to Associative, which heads a projection on top of the nominal domain. This movement operation is blocked by the presence of D/DP in free standing definite article languages.

Četverogodišnja istraživanja su provedena u pokusnom voćnjaku Poljoprivrednog instituta u Osijeku. Pokusni voćnjak podignut je po split-blok shemi. Do osme godine starosti istraživane sorte su postigle podjednako dobru vegetativnu razvijenost i rodnost. Pod utjecajem međupodloge nije utvrđena razlika u razvijenosti i rodnosti stabala. Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to map the reconfiguration and displacement of the emerging trauma of the Holocaust in the cinematic narratives of SFR Yugoslavia. The analysis of three nearly forgotten Yugoslav films of the 1960s - Killer on Leave (M?rder auf Urlaub/Ubica na odsustvu/Ubica je dosao iz proslosti, 1965, Bosko Boskovic), Witness Out of Hell (Bittere Kr?uter/Gorke trave, 1966, Zika Mitrovic) and Smoke (Dim, 1967, Slobodan Kosovalic) - follows Kansteiner?s thesis about the changes of Holocaust memorial narratives in the films shown on German television in the 1970s. Accordingly, I claim that the analyzed films position the trauma of the Holocaust as a crime committed by others, over there, and then in the past. Further, they broaden the trauma to accommodate the diversified roles of victims, perpetrators, witnesses and bystanders, and help the Germans (and other Europeans as well) come to terms with the Nazi criminal legacy and their own role. The co-productional terms allow the films to balance the memory of the Holocaust as both anti-fascist (East Germany) and cosmopolitan, multidirectional (West Germany) within the real Yugoslav/German symbolic narrative space and its intrinsic poetics (e.g., memorialization and sacralization).

Abstract:
This paper is an attempt at providing an account of Long GoN within the system of minimalismbased on case-agreement and single cycle syntax, closely related to the system developed in Chomsky (J998, 1999, 2000). First, we propose that a successful relation of case-agreement can be established not only between full Probes and complete Goals but also between 'split' Probes and complete Goals. We define a 'split' Probe as a (predefined) pair of heads that complement each other and jointly have features (+case, +). In the concrete case ofGoN and Long GoN, the two heads involved are F/Neg (+case) and v (+). The distance holding between the two half Probes in the cases ofLong GoN and the punitive power of the PIC, force us to revise certain assumptions concerning the status ofphases in the derivation. We propose that for a successful case-agreement relation both the 'split' Probe and the Goal must be placed within the same derivational phase. We therefore submit that neither the vP nor the infinitive embedded under control verbs constitute strong phases. In order to deal with infinitives embedded under control verbs, we reject the idea that they are CPs and propose instead that they are best treated as bare TPs, following Boskovic (1997) or, preferably, Hornstein (2000, 2001). The latter hypothesis, based on movement into thematic positions and treatment of obligatory control PRO as an NP trace, has an additional advantage ofexplaining lack ofdefective intervention effects that a PRO, with its interpretable (+) features visible to the Probe, is otherwise expected to cause..

Abstract:
Prof. Radovan Danic, PhD (1893-1979), an honorary lifetime President of the Astronomical Society Rudjer Boskovic in Belgrade, owned a brass universal equinoctial ring sundial (98 mm in diameter), preserved by his descendants, who continued his work on popularizing astronomy through the activities of the society. The sundial (ring dial) was measured, tested and compared to similar portable sundials (pocket sundials) exhibited in various European museums. In the classification scheme, along with the Parmenion?s and astronomical rings, it belongs to a group of pocket armillary sundials that do not require a compass. More precisely, it is a self-orienting armillary sundial whose rings are located under the circles of the celestial sphere of the same name at the moment of measurement. Therefore, when the apparent solar time is known, it turns into a solar compass. A corresponding sundial on the horizon to the self-orienting armillary sundial is the analemmatic sundial. The construction of a self-orienting armillary sundial was first described in the late 16th century by the English mathematician William Oughtred (1574-1660). In collaboration with the gnomonists from England and Austria, we determined where and when Professor Danic?s sundial was constructed: Vienna, second quarter of the 18th century. Originally, the sundial was adjusted for the latitude of Belgrade or Zemun (nowadays, a Belgrade municipality), which were under the Austrian rule for a long time during the 18th century. It is a beautiful, well-crafted, well-preserved, expensive sundial and astronomical instrument that should be kept in a museum, in the first place in the Museum of Astronomy of the Astronomical Observatory in Belgrade.

The 17th International Conference on Physical Organic Chemistry (ICPOC-17) is the latest event in a regular IUPAC-sponsored series, and took place in Shanghai, China on 15ñ20 August 2004 under the local auspices of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Chemical Society.About 200 delegates attended ICPOC-17 from 21 countries, to participate in a scientific program comprising 14 plenary and 17 invited lectures, 41 contributed lectures, and 53 posters. The ongoing importance of the conference theme is reflected in a range of topics that serve to underpin fundamental principles of the subject, whilst also addressing new and evolving challenges posed by the growing interdisciplinary interfaces. This interdependence is exemplified by the centrality of mechanistic insight in modern synthesis, the interpretive and predictive power of theoretical studies, and the indispensable role of physical organic principles in studies of organized matter and biological systems, all of which featured prominently in the program.Proceedings of this series of conferences are traditionally published in Pure and Applied Chemistry, and it is pleasing to introduce a representative selection of outstanding works based upon plenary lectures delivered at ICPOC-17. Mechanistic studies form the subject of papers by H. Mayr (Ludwig-Maximilians University, Munich, Germany), V. D. Parker (Utah State University, Logan, UT, USA), and M. Eckert-Maksic (Rudjer Boskovic Institute, Zagreb, Croatia), whilst those of F. Diederich (ETH, Zurich, Switzerland) and C. J. Easton (Australian National University, Canberra, Australia) address fundamental aspects of materials sciences. Biological themes feature in works by F. M. Menger (Emory University, Atlanta, GA, USA), Zhong-Li Liu (Lanzhou University, China), and A. Pross (Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Beer Sheva, Israel).Collectively, these papers exemplify the vigor and topicality of the overall scientific proceedings of ICPOC-17, and convey something of the diversity of themes that characterize current and future challenges in physical organic chemistry. This important forum will reconvene in Warsaw on 20ñ25 August 2006 for the 18th International Conference on Physical Organic Chemistry (ICPOC-18), and it is confidently expected that this record will serve the needs of practicing scientists, and offer inspiration and insight for future advances that may be reported on that occasion.Min-Bo ChenConference Editor

Abstract:
Abstract The provenance analyses of Permo-Carboniferous fluvial sandstones of the southern part of the Boskovice Basin and the Zöbing area are based on a wide spectrum of analytical techniques (petrography, heavy mineral assemblages, chemistry of garnet, rutile and spinel, zircon study, major and trace elements). The studied sandstones are poorly sorted and reveal a relatively immature composition implying short distance transport, rapid deposition, a high-relief source area, mainly physical weathering and the minor role of chemical weathering. Different source areas for the Boskovice Basin and the Zöbing area were proved. The Zöbing material was predominantly derived from crystalline units, mainly formed by metamorphic complexes, although the portions of magmatic and volcanic material were significant. The source area is supposed to be located in the Moldanubian Unit. The Boskovice Basin deposits, on the other hand, seem to be mainly derived from metamorphic complexes, corresponding especially to the Moravian Unit, with a relatively wider spectrum of metamorphites, together with the derivation of the detritus from pre-existing sedimentary rocks (especially from Moravo- Silesian Paleozoic deposits/Drahany Culm unit). The transport direction in the basin was more complex, both from the west and east. These results did not confirm the possibility of communication between the Boskovice Basin and the Zöbing area during the Late Paleozoic. The existence of “colinear” marginally offset half grabens with predominant transversal sources is here hypothesized. The general heavy mineral evolution in time does not indicate the successive exhumation of a simple structured orogen but may be interpreted as differences in the extent of the source areas.

Abstract:
The practice of using classical capital lettering was introduced north of the Alps from Italy in the second half of the 15th century, and appeared very early in the Kingdom of Hungary. The article contains six case studies on the problems of architectural carvings, stone tabernacles, tombstones and the classical inscriptions on them. I. Tabernacles. All’antica tabernacles were produced in large numbers in late mediaeval Hungary and survive in churches from monumental to very small. The tabernacle frames, which followed the antique architecture of the façade, were accompanied by inscriptions: quotations about the Eucharist or, less frequently, inscriptions referring to the maker. II. Inscriptions outside the royal court. Outside the Buda residence of King Matthias, inscriptions engraved with humanist capitals also appeared, earlier than in the royal court, according to our present knowledge. The earliest dated inscriptions in Hungary survive in Veszprém and are attributed to Bishop Albert Vetési, the best known being a text written on ribbons running on a Gothic console (1467). The all’antica heraldic stones known from several places in the country are often dated, the earliest being found in the Nógrád castle of Miklós Báthory, the humanist bishop, with the date 1483. III. The royal court. Monumental all’antica inscriptions adorned the royal palace in Buda: building inscriptions, statue bases. Their texts are mostly known only from sources, as few original stone carvings have survived. These inscriptions were sometimes in bronze letters, but there were also engraved ones. The monumental inscriptions were associated with King Matthias, while the inscriptions known from the time of Vladislaus II are smaller in size and do not have bronze lettering. IV. Epitaphs. Antique letters also appeared as circular inscriptions on late medieval tombstones. The epitaph written in distychs was often engraved in a tabula ansata. Rarely, the wording was also antiquated, as exemplified by the abbreviations DOM, DOMS, DM. V. Inscriptions around Hungary in the Jagiellonian period. The commissioners of early inscriptions were familiar with the all’antica inscriptions of the Buda court. In Vienna, the first known all’antica inscriptions can be attributed to a citizen of Buda, Peter Juncker, and in Moravia to the lords of Tovačov and Moravská Třebová (Ctibor Tovačovský z Cimburka; Ladislav z Boskovic). VI. Architectural inscriptions of the Jagellonian period in Hungary. Inside the sepulchral chapel of Tamás Bakócz in Esztergom there is a bronze donation inscription (1507), in keeping with the perfect Renaissance centralised space. After 1500, all’antica building inscriptions became common in Hungary. We know of many of them, mainly in the Transdanubian region, written in pure classical capitals. In the northern part of the country, the early humanist capitals are more common; the Biblical quotations and proverbs on the staircase of the town hall of Bártfa were written in such letters. In Transylvania, classical capitals are again common: the inscriptions of the Lázói Chapel, built next to the cathedral in Gyulafehervár, or the Várday Chapel were also carved in such letters.

A new species of the temnospondyl tetrapod, Sclerocephalus stambergi n. sp., is described from the early Permian deposits of the Boskovice Basin in Moravia (Czech Republic). The length of the skull of the only known specimen is about 50 mm. Characters including the well-ossified quadrate, septomaxilla and scapulocoracoid, presence of the maxilla-nasal suture and a free posterolateral margin of the supratemporal suggest an early adult age. This new species of Sclerocephalus is distinguished from the others on the basis of the following characters: nasal and maxillary processes of the premaxilla of equal width; absence of the alary process of the premaxilla; distinct pointed process on the lacrimal between the maxilla and jugal; narrow interclavicle; and very peculiar tabular presenting a quadrangular, plate-like process extending from its posterolateral portion, an almost right angle between its lateral and posterior margins, and a long posteromedial process. The new species represents the smallest and possibly the most basal Sclerocephalus species. The specimen described here sheds new light on the anatomy and taxonomy of Sclerocephalus. It completes the biodiversity of the tetrapod fauna from the Boskovice Basin, and our knowledge on the evolution of the European Paleozoic temnospondyls.

Abstract:
To evaluate the accumulation of aluminium, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, mercury, nickel, and zinc in crayfish and fish organ tissues, specimens from three drinking water reservoirs (Boskovice, Landštejn, and Nová Říše) and one contaminated site (Darkovské moře) in the Czech Republic were examined. Crayfish hepatopancreas was confirmed to be the primary accumulating site for the majority of metals (Cu > Zn > Ni > Cd > Cr), while Hg and Cr were concentrated in abdominal muscle, and Al and Pb were concentrated in gill. Metals found in Nová Říše specimens included Cu > Zn > Ni and those found in Boskovice included Zn > Hg > Cr. Cd concentrations were observed only in Landštejn specimens, while contaminated Darkovské moře specimens showed the highest levels of accumulation (Cu > Al > Zn > Pb). The majority of evaluated metals were found in higher concentrations in crayfish: Cu > Al > Zn > Ni > Cr > Cd > Pb, with Hg being the only metal accumulating higher in fish. Due to accumulation similarities of Al in crayfish and fish gill, differences of Hg in muscle, and features noted for the remaining metals in examined tissues, biomonitoring should incorporate both crayfish and fish to produce more relevant water quality surveys.

Abstract:
We describe here the results of the characterization of subsurface structures in an area of the south-eastern edge of the Bohemian Massif, in Austria by high-resolution geophysical survey techniques and advanced analysis methods of potential fields. The employed methods included potential field multiscale techniques for source-edge location and characterization of sources at depth. Our results confirmed the presence of already known structures: the location of the Diendorf Fault and the Moldanubian Shearzone are clearly recognized in the data at the same location as on the geological maps, even where the Diendorf fault is covered with sediments of the Molasse Basin. In addition, we detected several geological contacts between different rock types in the Bohemian Massif west of the Diendorf Fault. From our results, we were also able to quickly identify and image, without a priori information, previously unknown structures, such as faults with-depth-to-the top of about 500 m and magmatic intrusions about 400 m deep.

Full text
Abstract:
Diadectomorpha was a clade of large-bodied stem-amniotes or possibly early-diverging synapsids that established a successful dynasty of late Carboniferous to late Permian high-fiber herbivores. Aside from their fairly rich record of body fossils, diadectomorphs are also well-known from widely distributed tracks and trackways referred to as Ichniotherium. Here, we provide detailed description of a diadectomorph trackway and a manus-pes couple originating from two different horizons in the Asselian (lowermost Permian) of the Boskovice Basin in the Czech Republic. The specimens represent two distinct ichnotaxa of Ichniotherium, I. cottae and I. sphaerodactylum. Intriguingly, the I. cottae trackway described herein illustrates a ‘transitional’ stage in the posture evolution of diadectomorphs, showing track morphologies possibly attributable to a Diadectes-like taxon combined with distances between the successive manus and pes imprints similar to those observable in earlier-diverging diadectomorphs, such as Orobates. In addition, this trackway is composed of 14 tracks, including six well-preserved manus-pes couples, and thus represents the most complete record of Ichniotherium cottae described to date from the Asselian strata. In turn, the manus-pes couple, attributed here to I. sphaerodactylum, represents only the second record of this ichnotaxon from the European part of Pangea. Our study adds to the diversity of the ichnological record of Permian tetrapods in the Boskovice Basin which had been essentially unexplored until very recently.

Abstract:
Abstract A new vertebrate locality from the Lower Permian (Cisuralian) of the Bourbon-l'Archambault basin (Massif Central, France) is reported and its associated flora and fauna preliminarily described. This locality corresponds to a mass mortality assemblage deposited in an aquatic environment. Interestingly, it has yielded hundreds of exceptionally well preserved seymouriamorph specimens, all referred to Discosauriscus austriacus. This exquisite assemblage corresponds to the first seymouriamorph Lagerstätte and the first record of D. austriacus outside the Boskovice basin in Czechia. It enlarges the geographical distribution of the species during the Early Permian, and has new palaeoenvironmental implications regarding the Palaeozoic Bourbon-l'Archambault basin.

AbstractThis paper provides a summary of localization of Permian historical sites in the Boskovice Basin, which yielded amphibians of the family Discosauriscidae. Most of these sites have not been previously precisely localized. Our investigation is focused mainly on so-called “Špinar’s localities” named after Prof. Z. Špinar and described in his work. Several sites were also described by A. Stehlík, J. Zajíc & S. Štamberg and J. Augusta. The reason for the localization of these locations is that more than 3,000 samples from these sites are stored at the Chlupáč’s Museum of Earth History of the Charles University in Prague. Most localities are situated around the village of Bačov, where carbonization is the dominant type of preservation of Palaeozoic amphibian skeletons.

ABSTRACTWe describe four newly discovered and three-dimensionally preserved specimens of the discosauriscid seymouriamorph Discosauriscus pulcherrimus from the Lower Permian lacustrine sediments of the Boskovice Basin (Czech Republic). Their excellent preservation revealed new cranial features that allowed us to present a new skull reconstruction of middle-sized specimens of this tetrapod. The new features include: (1) the sculpturing of the anterior wedge-like process of the parasphenoid consisting of irregular ridges, grooves, low elevations and pits; and (2) the presence of a pair of semicircular crests on the posterodorsal surface of the parasphenoidal plate. We discuss the intraspecific variability of several characters, such as the type of dermal cranial ornamentation, and the morphology of the sensory grooves, nasolacrimal canal, dentition on the pterygoids and parasphenoid. The lengths of the skulls of four new specimens range from about 18 to 31mm and represent larval ontogenetic stages.

Motyw światła w epifaniach stanowi zrozumiałą w żydowskim i hellenistycznym środowiskach oznakę przynależności do świata nadprzyrodzonego.

The morphology of the atlas–axis complex is similar to that inSeymouria sanjuanensis. The neural arches start to swell slightly in specimens of late larval stage; they are completely swollen immediately after metamorphosis. There are about 40 caudal vertebrae and one sacral vertebra. The atlantal pleurocentrum is paired in metamorphic individuals. In postmetamorphic individuals, the pleurocentra 2–5 are not completely closed dorsally; the pleurocentra 6–30 form complete discs. The first haemal arch is situated on the sixth caudal vertebra. The atlantal rib is present. There are six caudal ribs.Discosauriscushas an anocleithrum which is the first record of this dermal pectoral element within seymouriamorphs and Lower Permian tetrapods.

Abstract:
A detailed description is given of the cranial anatomy of the Lower Permian tetrapod Discosauriscus . This material is three–dimensionally preserved and represents one of the best know seymouriamorph tetrapods. Two species, D. austriacus and D. pulcherrimus , are distinguished in the material from the Boskovice Furrow. D. austriacus is abundant, D. pulcherrimus is rare. The two species differ in the following features: (1) the shape of the postorbital and the jugal and the nature of their junction; (2) the shape of the prefrontal and the postfrontal and the position of their contact; and (3) the morphology of the ventral surfaces fo the palatal bones and the arrangement of the denticles on them. The genus Discosauriscus represents larval, metamorphic and early juvenile individuals. Comparison of the cranial structures of Discosauriscus with those of Seymouria baylorensis , Seymouria sanjuanensis , and Seymouria cf. S. sanjuanensis (which is of similar size to the largest individuals of Discosauriscus ) shows that (i) Discosauriscus and Seymouria are structurally similar but different genera, (ii) Discosauriscus is a member of the taxon Seymouriamorpha, (iii) Discosauriscus and Ariekanerpeton comprise the family Discosauriscidae and (iv) Seymouria is not a reptile (an amniote animal). Ariekanerpeton , Utegenia , Urumquia , kotlassiids , leptorophids and Enosuchus require revision.
