Abstract:
Abstract This essay analyses the previously unexplored protocol of the notary Angelo degli Atti da Todi, which contains 141 new sources on the history of Rome – City and Curia – during the pontificate of Martin V and the early pontificate of Eugenius IV. After an overview of notarial research on early Renaissance Rome, it presents Angelo degli Atti’s career and cultural profile, based partly on his will, found in a legal dispute over inheritance with the Florentine Alberti family. Possibilities for analysing the protocol are then discussed. For the first time, this protocol provides insights into the jurisdiction of the Camera Apostolica in the period mentioned and expands our knowledge of the actors and transactions of the Papal Finance at the Curia of Martin V, especially as regards the Florentine merchant bankers, and above all the Alberti and Boscoli. The protocol also contains a wide range of sources on the history of Rome, including its art history and the maritime economy in which the city was involved. The entire protocol is made accessible by regesta including an index of persons and places.

Abstract:
AbstractThis essay contextualizes a series of learned legal opinions, or consilia, authored primarily by the Genoese jurist Bartolomeo Bosco (d. 1437) on the subject of maritime theft, or piracy, by referring to contemporaneous records for the practice of maritime theft in the Mediterranean, archival records in the Archivio di Stato for Bosco's career, and related consilia authored by Bosco. It argues that Bosco's opinions on matters related to the practice of piracy, overlooked despite revived scholarly interest in his work, illustrate the applications and limitations of consilia as practical documents in medieval civic governance, and suggest a divide between commercial and administrative perspectives in the maritime republics of late medieval Europe. Finally, it proposes that Bartolomeo Bosco be numbered among the "economic humanists" of the fifteenth century.

Abstract:
Bosco’s literary theory, dispersed throughout numerous self-critical admissions, reveals a concern for textual format, justified by Bosco as being the means of his spiritual quest, shared with the reader. A very short poem by Bosco, matured at length, shows great care in the poetic form, a form in which all aspects serve to translate in the text itself the object of the description: Bosco’s beloved mountain, turned into a poem. The study of its imitabal harmony, covering every level of the text, would be in vain if one were to neglect the spiritual aspirations of the poet, his attention to the secret of the Being, incarnated by the mountain. But we must hesitate in designating the nature of this secret: the truth of a mystical order; or, on the contrary, that of the violence lodged deep in every man, a violence which the mountain might resemble?

Abstract:

Abstract:
This article undertakes an analysis of Monique Bosco’s essays, published during the last eight years of her life, between 1998 and 2006, in light of the lament tradition. Focusing on the use of intertextuality in these essays, the article emphasizes lamentation as an interrogation rather than a lament, a notion that perhaps comes more immediately to mind. In the context of the Shoah, Bosco seeks to understand in the manner of the Book of Lamentations how what happened could have happened, a quest that necessarily involves the reading of historical, philosophical and autobiographical texts.

Abstract:
The French administration in Dalmatia (1805-1813) was short but is often praised by foresters as advanced in terms of woodland management because of their establishment of so-called sacred groves or sacri boschi. Based on archival sources and 19th century maps, this research explores the establishment and demise of sacred groves and places them within the broader forest history of Dalmatia. It reveals that the literal translation of the term sacro bosco as sacred grove (sveti gaj) by the 19th century foresters was not precise which caused misrepresentation and misunderstandings of what sacro bosco actually meant. The more appropriate translation would be forbidden groves (zabranjen gaj) as this also reflects the nature of these woodlands, which were in fact woodland sections where exploitation was prohibited. Establishment of forbidden groves was not a French invention since the practice was widely used before the French and during the Austrian Empire (1814-1918). In the second half of the 19th century and with the change of official language, the Italian term sacro bosco was replaced with the Croatian term protected area (branjevina).

Abstract:
Spiritual, mystic and natural boundaries haunt the writings of Henri Bosco. Critics such as Bachelard have studied Bosco's interpretation of the natural elements and noted his sensitive portrayal of the protagonists with a focus on their unconscious desires by the use of this device. In Le Mas Theotime Bosco has unleashed his artistic and poetic creativity in addition to his passion for nature. Indeed, of all of Bosco's novels, perhaps this one exemplifies the quintessential harmony of man with nature. As suggested by Jean-Claude Godin: " ... il n'y a que dans Le Mas Theotime oil elles soient veritablement au coeur du recit ... La reverie de la terre debouche alors sur toutes les images de l'intimite heureuse." (Godin 176) It is also the essence of Provence, its legends and its natural beauty that plays an integral role in this novel. Not only does Bosco explore the natural elements, but he also explores the religious myths that so influence our society. This thesis will explore, through a symbolic and religious interpretation, the boundaries which prevail throughout. Le Mas Theotime incorporates Bosco's true genius as a writer who brings to his reader the possibility of a personal rendition and view of the story. His is not a straightforward and evident recollection of events, but rather a voyage through and involvement in the lives and minds of the characters.

Abstract:
BIODIVERSITY IN RESIDUAL FORESTS IN SOUTHERN MARCHE (ITALY) MANAGEMENT CONSERVATION The aim of the present study is a floristic and phytosociological analysis of the vegetatation in residual woods, also through the identification of the presence of habitats of Community importance to evalute biodiversity conservation status of residual woods. The forests objects of this study, are located in the sub-hilly and coastal territories of southern Marche Region, in the Provinces of Fermo and Ascoli Piceno. Residual woods are small isolated woods inside urban and agricultural landscapes. Nine remaining forests have been under study. Eight of them are located in the coastal territories, the sub-coastal wood has a much larger extension, it spreads over a hill called Rovetino Results: This analysis has revealed the great biodiversity value of the territory under study with rare species of flora and interesting vegetation typologies. For some of them new associations have been proposed. Also, different habitats, some of them rare and of priority importance have been identified in the Region In Rovetino wood 531 taxa belonging to 329 genera and 81 families have been found. The phytosociological study has identified 16 plant communities, 6 of which represent the 4 associations, 10 groupings, relating to 9 phytosociological Classes. In the coastal forests 288 taxa belonging to 159 genera and 70 families have been found. The phytosociological study have been found 17 plant communities, 14 associations, six of wich have been proposed as new associations, and 3 groupings, relating to 9 phytosociological Classes. Two new alliances and a new sub-association have also been proposed For the management and conservation we suggest to combine the residual costal forests into one larger area subject to protection as a new area SIC; as regards Rovetino wood, we proposed to enlarge the nearby M. Ascensione Sic area in order to include also this wood.

Abstract:
A series of considerations about the value of the living, the difference between natural ecosystems, neo-ecosystems and artificial systems, self-organization and emerging behaviors, the difference between forests managed and intact in the provision of ecosystem services lead to introduce, alongside the latter, the eco-benefit concept. This perspective requires planning on scales having as a reference the water catchment area, a key element in the fractal nature of the landscape, and to consider forest rewilding as an essential step in territorial politics.

Abstract:
The Southeast Coast Network (SECN) conducts long-term terrestrial vegetation monitoring as part of the nationwide Inventory and Monitoring Program of the National Park Service (NPS). The vegetation community vital sign is one of the primary-tier resources identified by SECN park managers, and monitoring is currently conducted at 15 network parks (DeVivo et al. 2008). Monitoring plants and their associated communities over time allows for targeted understanding of ecosystems within the SECN geography, which provides managers information about the degree of change within their parks’ natural vegetation. 2019 marks the first year of conducting this monitoring effort on four SECN parks, including Fort Pulaski National Monument (FOPU). Twelve vegetation plots were established at Fort Pulaski National Monument in August. Data collected in each plot included species richness across multiple spatial scales, species-specific cover and constancy, species-specific woody stem seedling/sapling counts and adult tree (greater than 10 centimeters [3.9 inches {in}]) diameter at breast height (DBH), overall tree health, landform, soil, observed disturbance, and woody biomass (i.e., fuel load) estimates. This report summarizes the baseline (year 1) terrestrial vegetation data collected at Fort Pulaski National Monument in 2019. Data were stratified across two dominant broadly defined habitats within the park (Maritime Tidal Wetlands and Maritime Upland Forests and Shrublands). Noteworthy findings include: Sixty-six vascular plant taxa were observed across 12 vegetation plots, including six taxa not previously known from the park. Plots were located on both Cockspur and McQueen’s Island. The most frequently encountered species in each broadly defined habitat included: Maritime Tidal Wetlands: smooth cordgrass (Spartina alterniflora), perennial saltmarsh aster(Symphyotrichum enuifolium), and groundsel tree (Baccharis halimifolia) Maritime Upland Forests and Shrublands: yaupon (Ilex vomitoria), southern/eastern red cedar (Juniperus silicicola + virginiana), and cabbage palmetto (Sabal palmetto). Four non-native species identified as invasive by the Georgia Exotic Pest Plant Council (GA-EPPC 2018) were found during this monitoring effort. These species (and their overall frequency of occurrence within all plots) included: Japanese honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica; 17%), bahiagrass (Paspalum notatum; 8%), Vasey’s grass (Paspalum urvillei; 8%), and European common reed (Phragmites australis; 8%). Two rare plants tracked by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GADNR 2013) were found during this monitoring effort. These include Florida wild privet (Forestiera segregata) and Bosc’s bluet (Oldenlandia boscii). Southern/eastern red cedar and cabbage palmetto were the most dominant species within the tree stratum of the maritime Upland Forest and Shrubland habitat type. Species that dominated the sapling and seedling strata of this type included yaupon, cabbage palmetto, groundsel tree, and Carolina laurel cherry (Prunus caroliniana). The health status of sugarberry (Celtis laevigata)—a typical canopy species in maritime forests of the South Atlantic Coastal Plain--observed on park plots appeared to be in decline, with most stems experiencing elevated levels of dieback and low vigor. Over the past decade, this species has been experiencing unexplained high rates of dieback and mortality throughout its range in the Southeastern United States; current research is focusing on what may be causing these alarming die-off patterns. Duff and litter made up the majority of downed woody biomass (fuel loads) across FOPU vegetation plots.
