Abstract:
Abelia ×grandiflora is a drought-tolerant, pest-resistant, flowering shrub that has long been used as a foundation plant. Interspecific hybridization has produced seedlings with an assortment of morphological traits, allowing for development of new cultivars with unique or improved qualities. `Raspberry Profusion' and `Lavender Mist', developed at the University of Georgia, are seedling selections of `Edward Goucher' × Abelia chinensis. `Raspberry Profusion' is a very heavy and very early bloomer. Panicles are large and showy with fragrant pink flowers and raspberry-colored sepals. Flowering begins in early May and becomes very heavy by early June. The bright-colored sepals remain on the plant throughout the summer. Summer foliage is a medium to dark green color. In a pot, `Raspberry Profusion' blooms early and heavily. `Lavender Mist' is a heavy bloomer, with clusters of fragrant lavender flowers beginning in mid-June, and continuing into autumn. Sepals are a straw-green color at the base, becoming rose at the tips. Summer foliage is gray-green. `Lavender Mist' performs well in a pot, forming a gray-green mound contrasting with the lavender blossoms scattered around the plant. Leaves on both cultivars are glossy, particularly from mid-summer through autumn. Both plants tend to be mostly deciduous in the winter. Laboratory evaluations of cold hardiness in Griffin, Ga., during Winter 2003–04 revealed a mid-winter hardiness of –18 °C to –21 °C for `Raspberry Profusion' and –15 °C to –17 °C for `Lavender Mist'. These plants develop into dense compact shrubs following pruning and establishment in the landscape.

Full text
Abstract:
Algal blooms lead to hypoxia resulting in the mortality of fish and other aquatic animals in inland as well as marine waters. A number of reports on fish mortality in lakes and river waters due to hypoxia are available in India. The main cause of algal blooms is reported to be the eutrophication of inland and marine waters with plant nutrients, of which phosphate is the most important. Phosphate is added to inland and marine waters from run-offs from agricultural fields receiving phosphate fertilizers. Phosphate is also added to the waters from untreated human solid waste and sewage in the river and lake waters from nearby towns and cities. An N:P ratio of less than 10:1 is reported to encourage bloomer phytoplankton. Causes other than hypoxia, responsible for the mortality of fish and other aquatic animals include the production of neurotoxins and methanol by phytoplankton, heavy metals from industrial effluents and residues of pesticides from agricultural fields.

Full text
Abstract:
This article is devoted to the phenomenon of female body in the foreign theory of architecture in the 1980‑s–90‑s. The works of D. Agrest, E. Grosz, D. Bloomer and D. Fausch are examined in the present paper. There are two perspectives on the problem of female corporeality: poststructuralist and phenomenological. Jennifer Bloomer and Diane Agrest adopt a poststructuralist critical strategy in which the notion of the feminine is considered as the “Other” of the logocentric architectural discourse. Elisabeth Gross notes that women have always been displaced from the realm of architecture. This is indicated not only by the absence of female architects, but also by the fact that the inherent attributes of female corporeality have been completely disregarded. Diane Agrest suggests that these attributes were appropriated by male architects. The phenomenological perspective on the female corporeality is reflected in Deborah Fausch's concept of “feminist architecture”. “Feminist architecture” brings back the value of concrete, sensual bodily experience in the perception of architecture. The subject's perceptual experience through the body allows the semantic dimension to unfold in the building.

Abstract:
This lesson plan can be used with elementary students to integrate reading, social studies, and language arts. You Forgot Your Skirt, Amelia Bloomer is a humorous, yet accurate, account of the beginning of the Women’s Rights Movement. Students learn to make personal connections to women of today by comparing and contrasting past and present roles as well as predicting future roles. The needs of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners are addressed through hands-on activities and the use of technology, and primary sources are used to teach content. Students read other trade books on the lives of various women and make trading cards illustrating important contributions they made to history. Higher-order thinking questions are an integrative part of this lesson.

Abstract:
Abstract Barringtonia racemosa is an evergreen mangrove associate. It is an year-round bloomer that produces attractive pinkish-white flowers on long, hanging racemes. The flowers open during evening-night time during which only hawk moths swiftly visit them for nectar collection effecting both self- and cross-pollination. Fruits are large, single-seeded, indehiscent and buoyant, and disperse in the direction of tidal or ocean currents. Seeds are exposed only when fruits rot; when anchored in the muddy substratum, they germinate within two or three weeks to produce new plants.

Abstract:
The transmittance and reflectance of cuprous oxide (Cu2O) thin film deposited on quartz substrate were measured by a spectrophotometer. Use the optical dielectric model combining the Forouhi–Bloomer model with modified Drude model (FBM+MDM), the optical constants, as well as the thickness of Cu2O film were attained from its measured transmittance data. Moreover, by means of the TFCalc software, the reflectance and transmittance were calculated conversely from the optical constants (n, k) and the thickness of the Cu2O film. It was found that the calculated reflectance and transmittance were in good agreement with the measured ones. So the optical dielectric model, namely FBM+MDM, is suitable for Cu2O thin film.

Abstract:
Social support is a highly relevant predictor of offending. Despite this, little research has examined how this construct develops over time and how withdrawal of social support may result in “late bloomer” offending. This study used the Pathways to Desistance to data to test hypotheses related to these research questions. Group-based trajectory modeling was used to identify trajectories of social support, and ordinary least squares regression was used to determine the relevance of trajectory group assignment for predicting differences in offending between adolescence and adulthood. Results indicated that withdrawal of social support resulted in a dulling of the maturational decline in offending frequency typically observed following adolescence. Implications are discussed.
