Abstract:
Given the development of the Web 2.0, blog becomes one of the most popular applications in the Internet. Internet users spend a lot of time to post and read articles, search for other’s opinions and recommendations in the blogs. Why so many users are stuck on the blogs? What are the key factors to influence user’s blog continuance? This study uses Post-Acceptance Model of IS Continuance as basic model, and combines with information quality and service quality to explore what factors affect internet user’s continuance of recommendation blog. The study adopts cates recommendation blogs as experiment platform, and collects 212 Taiwanese samples from internet. After the analysis of structural equation model, main results are the followings: (1) Users’ perceived usefulness and satisfaction will affect their continuance of recommendation blog; (2) Users’ perceived usefulness, ease of use, confirmation, and blog’s information quality, service quality will affect users’ satisfaction; (3) Blog’s information quality and service quality will affect users’ confirmation.

Abstract:
The article presents the guidelines for subject teachers on internal optimization of blogs, created by the resource blogspot.com: URL- blog page addresses optimization; correct formulation of posts headers or pages; removal of repetitive content; adding metatags; use header tags directly into blog posts. Practical use of these internal optimization techniques has shown that the teacher’s blog takes the first place at search engines, and thus acquires its popularity, makes it possible to increase number of blog’s visitors. This issue is gaining popularity and becomes significant because more and more teachers create their own blogs and use them to communicate with other participants of the educational process.

Abstract:
Political scientists and political theorists debate the relationship between participation and deliberation among citizens with different political viewpoints. Blogs provide an important testing ground for their claims. We examine deliberation, polarization, and political participation among blog readers. We find that blog readers gravitate toward blogs that accord with their political beliefs. Few read blogs on both the left and right of the ideological spectrum. Furthermore, those who read left-wing blogs and those who read right-wing blogs are ideologically far apart. Blog readers are more polarized than either non-blog-readers or consumers of various television news programs, and roughly as polarized as US senators. Blog readers also participate more in politics than non-blog readers. Readers of blogs of different ideological dispositions do not participate less than those who read only blogs of one ideological disposition. Instead, readers of both left- and right-wing blogs and readers of exclusively leftwing blogs participate at similar levels, and both participate more than readers of exclusively right-wing blogs. This may reflect social movement-building efforts by left-wing bloggers.

Abstract:
On the internet, people can reach an audience in the way they want, for example, through social media. A blog is a website, often updated daily, in which users write about their thoughts or experiences relating to a subject. Nowadays, blogs have various functions: informational, entertaining, and communicative. Blogs can include texts, photos, videos, and links to other blogs. Writing a blog is subordinate to its audience. Readers ask questions on various issues in the comments. Punctuation marks are used to express emotions and attitudes in the text. The aim is to examine the use of punctuation marks – exclamation marks, question marks, ellipsis, dashes, and double quotation marks – in Latvian authors’ blogs. The empirical base of the study consists of about 500 units of broad syntactic constructions, which have been extracted manually and from the “Latvian Language Blog Corpus”. 27 personal, one woman + man blog, and five cooperative blogs have been examined. Attention is paid to punctuation marks used in blogs and commentaries of blogs in various syntactic constructions, e.g., utterances and parenthesis. The study uses descriptive, comparative, and quantitative research methods. A quantitative analysis of the blog entries shows that expressive use of graphical means is more frequent in personal blogs. Bloggers use emoticons in personal and cooperative blogs.

Abstract:
Modern blogs are means of public influence. The authors analyze communicative strategies, stylistic and lexical means used by Deborrah Blum, journalist and blogger involved in environmental issues discussion. The range of means under consideration is wide due to extreme topical significance. Ecological problems are challenge of modern society and blog’s author attracts contemporaries attention to them. Discourse analysis and content analysis are dominant research methods. The author of the blog, having an expert status uses such communicative strategies as regulative, metacommunicative, informative and modal-evaluative. Informative and influential potential of blogs is caused both by topical acuteness and virtual communication participants feedback, their joint and collective authorship. Blog discourse emphasizes topical social issues. Contemporary blog is of both informative and evaluative character. Virtual communication depicts cognitive and mental patterns of the Internet communication typical participants in information epoch.

Abstract:
Travel blogs have become a huge online platform used as a benchmark for Internet users to plan holiday itineraries, consider choices, and finalize travel-related purchase decisions. As popular travel blogs are often visited by online readers globally, there might be a shift in the purposes for writing travel blogs nowadays compared to traditional blog posts. Previous studies discussed the characteristics of blogs as a communicative platform; however, discussion on language features and blog structures used to achieve certain purposes of travel blogs is still scarce. This study, hence, aimed to evaluate the text structure and language function employed in popular travel blogs to determine their overall purposes. Eighteen posts were selected from six popular travel blogs and analyzed qualitatively by using Pascual’s (2018) blog structure moves and Jakobson’s (1960) language function framework. The findings showed that the travel blog posts consisted of four moves: situational, descriptive, closure, and invitational moves and that most of the moves mainly employed referential and emotive functions. Hence, the main purposes were to provide information on travel destinations and to express the bloggers’ feelings towards their travel experiences. The findings implied that the purposes of popular travel blog posts nowadays are related to the role of blogs as a source of information and the role of travel bloggers as social influencers in the online community.

Abstract:
Purpose This study aims to conceptualise and empirically examine how blog users engage with the sponsored posts on consumer-generated content, specifically blogs. Design/methodology/approach This paper empirically tested the proposed hypotheses using the structural equation modelling using a sample of 399 blog users. Findings The need for cognition, perceived interactivity and perceived credibility of blogs has been found to directly influence consumers’ attitude towards blogs. Innovativeness has been found to have a weak negative link with the attitude towards blogs. Blog users were more favourable towards the sponsored posts if the blogs were more interactive. Attitude towards blogs has been found to mediate the relationship between users’ perceived interactivity and their avoidance of the sponsored posts and also between perceived credibility and avoidance of the sponsored posts on blogs. The most significant finding of this study is that the positive attitude towards a blog results in a higher avoidance of the sponsored posts. Research limitations/implications This study focuses on the sponsored posts on blogs. It does not look at other forms of advertising on blogs such as banner ads, or other forms of consumer-generated content. Practical implications Marketers and bloggers should carefully consider the suitability of the sponsored posts on blogs as they risk alienating the regular users of the blogs. Sponsored posts which are perceived as honest reviews (as opposed to paid advertorials) might be more acceptable to blog users. Social implications This study highlights the importance of credibility of bloggers to blog users. There are some serious ethical issues related to the sponsored posts which have not been discussed here but need to be examined further. Originality/value This study represents one of the first attempts to conceptualise and empirically examine how blog users engage with customer-generated advertising – sponsored posts. It contributes to marketing literature by enhancing the understanding of how consumers perceive consumer-generated content and more specifically, with regard to consumer attitudes towards online consumer-generated advertising. This study enhances the theoretical and empirical knowledge on how consumers react to advertisements on social media, with important suggestions for future research and implications for practitioners.

Abstract:
Background Medical blogs have become valuable information sources for patients and caregivers. Most research has focused on patients’ creation of blogs as therapy. But we know less about how these blogs affect their readers and what format of information influences readers to take preventative health actions. Objective This study aimed to identify how reading patient medical blogs influences readers’ perceived health risk and their intentions to engage in preventative health actions. Further, we aimed to examine the format of the medical blog and the reader’s response. Methods We surveyed 99 university participants and a general-population, online panel of 167 participants. Both studies randomly assigned participants to conditions and measured blog evaluation, intentions for preventative health action, and evaluation of health risk and beliefs, and allowed open-ended comments. The second study used a different sample and added a control condition. A third study used a convenience sample of blog readers to evaluate the link between reading medical blogs and taking preventative health action. Results Across 3 studies, participants indicated a desire to take future preventative health action after reading patient blogs. Studies 1 and 2 used experimental scenario-based designs, while Study 3 employed a qualitative design with real blog readers. The 2 experimental studies showed that the type of blog impacted intentions to engage in future preventative health actions (Study 1: F2,96=6.08, P=.003; Study 2: F3,166=2.59, P=.06), with a statistical blog being most effective in both studies and a personal narrative blog showing similar effectiveness in Study 2, contrary to some prior research. The readers’ perceptions of their own health risk did not impact the relationship between the blog type and health intentions. In contrast, in one study, participants’ judgments about the barriers they might face to accessing care improved the fit of the model (F2,95=13.57, P<.001). In Study 3’s sample of medical blog readers, 53% (24/45) reported taking preventative health action after reading a health blog, including performing a self-check, asking a doctor about their health risk, or requesting a screening test. Additionally, these readers expressed that they read the blogs to follow the author (patient) and to learn general health information. All studies demonstrated the blogs were somewhat sad and emotional but also informative and well-written. They noted that the blogs made them appreciate life more and motivated them to consider taking some action regarding their health. Conclusions Reading patient blogs influences intentions to take future health actions. However, blog formats show different efficacy, and the readers’ disease risk perceptions do not. Physicians, medical practitioners, and health organizations may find it useful to curate or promote selected medical blogs to influence patient behavior.

Abstract:
An increasing number of healthcare providers author medical blogs (bloggers) to educate the public and fellow physicians. Traditionally, many bloggers have assumed that readers are most interested in information presented at prestigious and popular scientific meetings. As a result, the readers and bloggers often ignore blogs of local scientific meetings. We hypothesize that blog readers will utilize blogs about local scientific meetings less than those about national meetings. We examined nephrology-pertinent blogs from 2010-2012. Blogs were categorized as "local/regional" or "national/international" based on the majority of the audience that attended the live scientific meeting. We tracked the number of pageviews, reading time, and location of use per blog for the first 90-days after its first availability on the website. Wilcoxon testing was performed on all data. There were 9 local/regional and 11 national/international scientific meetings for which blogs were available. The mean number of page views was significantly lower in blogs from local/regional than national/international conferences (84.7 versus 160.3, respectively; p < 0.01). However, the mean difference in total reading time between both categories of blogs was not significant (p = 0.25).Data from this investigation do not fully support the hypothesis that readers utilized local/regional blogs less than national/international blogs. Although local/regional blogs attracted fewer readers (lower pageviews), the content in these blogs was compelling enough to keep the reader equally engaged as with national/international blogs.

Abstract:
The use of blogs in teaching and learning has emerged as a useful education-al technology resource. Hence, this study’s objective is to investigate the students’ perception of blogs and the blog usage patterns from the educa-tional aspect. Eighteen samples were chosen purposively in this study. The study collected both qualitative and quantitative data. The research instru-ments were questionnaires, semi-structured interviews and students’ blogs. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, the data collected was an-alysed descriptively and thematically. The results revealed the positive outcomes of students’ perceptions of blog aspects such as writing, reading and making comments. In terms of blog usage patterns, student frequencies in writing and sharing information in blogs were high when they were given tasks or activities that would be evaluated by an instructor. This showed that instructors play an important role in motivating the students to be ac-tively involved in blogs. Therefore, rewards or marks need to be given as an encouragement to the students for them to continuously and actively use blogs for learning.

Abstract:
This paper presents a stochastic graph based method for recommending or selecting a small subset of blogs that best represents a much larger set. within a certain topic. Each blog is assigned a score that reflects how representative it is. Blog scores are calculated recursively in terms of the scores of their neighbors in a lexical similarity graph. A random walk is performed on a graph where nodes represent blogs and edges link lexically similar blogs. Lexical similarity is measured using either the cosine similarity measure, or the Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence. In addition, the presented method combines lexical centrality with information novelty to reduce redundancy in ranked blogs. Blogs similar to highly ranked blogs are discounted to make sure that diversity is maintained in the final rank. The presented method also allows us to include additional initial quality priors to assess the quality of the blogs, such as frequency of new posts per day and the text fluency measured by n-gram model probabilities, etc. We evaluate our approach using data from two large blog datasets. We measure the selection quality by the number of blogs covered in the network as calculated by an information diffusion model. We compare our method to other heuristic and greedy selection methods and show that it significantly outperforms them.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this study is to identify corporate blog design characteristics that positively influence the view of actual and potential corporate blog users. Moreover, based on the technology acceptance model (TAM), the paper examines the specific mechanism through which corporate blog design characteristics influence the acceptance of corporate blogs and assess the cross-country applicability of the developed framework. Design/methodology/approach – Based on primary data of 992 individuals in three countries (Germany, Russia, and the USA), the paper tests the identified design characteristics and the proposed framework using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), multi-group confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling. Findings – The results show the applicability of the TAM in the context of corporate blogs. Blog management and usability were found to be key determinants of perceived ease of use. Entertainment value as well as content value and interaction positively affect perceived enjoyment. Content value as well as blog management and usability are the key determinants of perceived usefulness of corporate blogs. Mediation tests revealed a partial mediation of the distal corporate blog design characteristics on attitude and usage intention by the proximal TAM elements. Research limitations/implications – The sample was self-selected from internet users and a limited number of countries. Associations with and understanding of the term “corporate blog” might vary between internet users as well as between the three focus countries. Practical implications – Based on the research, companies are better able to adapt corporate blogs to target group characteristics and thus can better reach communication goals. The research can be used both for the establishment of new corporate blogs as well as for the adaptation of existing corporate blogs. Originality/value – This study contributes to the existing literature by identifying and examining design characteristics that affect individuals' perceptions of corporate blogs. Furthermore, this is the first large-scale cross-country study in this research context that identifies the mechanism through which firms can actively influence the perceived usefulness, ease of use, and enjoyment of corporate blogs, which is important to better understand individuals' acceptance of corporate blogs in different national contexts.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVETo analyze influential infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, infection control, or medical microbiology blogs and bloggersSETTINGWorld wide webDESIGNWe conducted a systematic search for blogs in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines in September 2015.METHODSA snowball sampling approach was applied to identify blogs using various search engines. Blogs were eligible if they (1) focused on infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, infection control, or medical microbiology; (2) were intended for health professionals; and (3) were written in English and (4) were updated regularly. We mapped blog and blogger characteristics and used an innovative tool to assess the architecture and content of the included blogs. The motivations and perceptions of bloggers and readers were also assessed.RESULTSA total of 88 blogs were identified. Moreover, 28 blogs (32%) focused on infectious diseases, 46 (52%) focused on medical microbiology, and 14 (16%) focused on infection control or antimicrobial stewardship. Bloggers were mainly male with medical doctorates and/or PhDs; 32 bloggers (36%) posted at least weekly; and 51 (58%) had a research purpose. The aims were considered clear for 23 blogs (26%), and the field covered was considered broad for 25 blogs (28%). Presentation was considered good for 22 blogs (25%), 51 blogs (58%) were easy to read, and 46 blogs (52%) included expert interpretation. Among the top 10 blogs, 3 focused on infectious diseases, 6 focused on medical microbiology, and 2 focused on infection control (2 were equally ranked). The bloggers we questioned were motivated to share their independent expertise and opinions. Readers appreciated the concise messages on scientific topics and practical updates.CONCLUSIONSThis study describes high-level blogs in the fields of infectious diseases, infection control, and medical microbiology. Our findings suggest ways in which bloggers should build/orientate blogs for readers, and we have highlighted current gaps in blog topics such as antimicrobial stewardship.Infect. Control Hosp. Abstract:
Purpose – Financial blogs provide an online platform whereby retail investors effortlessly gain access to an abundant array of investment guidance. Prior studies find that the market reacts to financial blogs and similar online venues but results are inconsistent and financial blogs, a growing area in new media and distinct from other online venues, have received little attention. The purpose of this paper is to examine the particular conditions in which financial blogs serve an infomediary role in capital markets; when information asymmetry is high, earnings quality is low, and during economic uncertainty. These are conditions in which retail investors may seek easily accessible advice for their investment decisions. Design/methodology/approach – Abnormal returns for firms mentioned in blog posts on the SeekingAlpha.com financial blog are examined using a multivariate regression to determine whether or not the market reaction associated with these posts is related to information asymmetry, earnings quality, and economic uncertainty. Findings – Results indicate that abnormal returns are associated with the SeekingAlpha.com financial blog when information asymmetry is high and during bearish market conditions, and in particular when buy recommendations are posted on the blog for firms with high information asymmetry. This association is strengthened for firms with low institutional ownership, a proxy for unsophisticated or retail investors. Research limitations/implications – Results are based on a sample collected during a specific time period in order to detect whether financial blogs serve an infomediary role during uncertain market conditions. Practical implications – Results of this study can be useful to company executives who may want to monitor investment advice posted about their firm on financial blogs. Financial blogs and other forms of social media such as Twitter and Facebook are becoming the “new normal” in the investor information environment, a trend that is likely to continue. Originality/value – Financial blogs provide an abundance of supplemental information demanded by investors. Financial blogs represent a form of “new media,” now considered a key component of firms’ information environment (Saxton, 2012). In contrast to prior studies which primarily investigate only whether the market reacts to financial blogs or similar online platforms such as stock message boards, this study attempts to understand the specific conditions in which the market reacts to financial blogs. The results provide a rationale as to when and why investors rely on financial blogs and whether financial blogs serve an infomediary role in capital markets.

Abstract:
Blogs have the potential to be integrated as learning tools to help students learn and reflect. Many educators have incorporated the use of teaching blogs to enhance teaching and learning outcomes in higher education settings. However, research conducted to empirically examine the effectiveness of blog use in education is rare. This study intends to help fill the remaining gaps in the research; there are two main purposes: (1) to examine, using a field quasi-experiment, whether the use of teaching blogs in university course instruction enhances student learning outcomes; and (2) to empirically understand the determinants and impacts of the extent of student blog use on university’s course learning via a questionnaire analysis. Two separate studies were conducted. The experimental results of Study 1 show that using teaching blogs not only enhances learner satisfaction, but also increases university students’ learning achievement. The Study 2 results show that higher quality teaching blogs positively influence the extent of student blog use, which in turn positively influences student learning satisfaction and achievement. This study extends our knowledge and insights regarding the use of teaching blogs within the higher education domain.

What is a blog? While this may seem like a basic question, it is the subject of dispute among researchers, and hardly settled among users of the medium. We return to this fundamental inquiry by asking 89 blog-reading college students how they conceptualize the term and what purpose blogs serve for them. Our findings suggest that perceptions of blogs are varied and ambiguous, and definitions largely fail to distinguish blogs from other online media. We discuss what this means for the study of blogs and other “new” media and argue that more constructionist approaches are necessary to develop ecologically valid theories of media perceptions and use.

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper represents an earnest attempt to identify specific pedagogical roles for blogs in language learning. After briefly describing various types of blogs and defining their purposes (Herring et al., 2005) we attempt to accommodate their position and application within language teaching (Thorne & Scott Payne, 2005), relating evidence from teachers' blogs (Edublog.org) and also within Second Language Acquisition (SLA) theories. In particular, we shall be concentrating on the process and post-process writing approaches (Matsuda, 2003), with particular emphasis on current cognitivist (Atkinson, 2003; Ferris & Hodgcock, 1998) and expressivist (Berlin, 1988) theories. These approaches will be discussed in terms of their effectiveness when establishing specific blog writing tasks. Whilst some researchers have advocated for a ‘lead blog’ or template for other students to follow (Stone, 2004), we have been seeking an eclectic approach based on the three approaches mentioned above. We shall describe our own blended task methodology (Abermann, 2004; Thorne, 2003) wherein language students at a Third Level Institution were set a blog writing task initially over a complete semester (12 weeks). The blog exercise employed both an early expressivist approach and later a (socio-) cognitivist one. Our findings, with examples from students' blogs (and also from students who continued their blogs over a 6 month period), will be presented as well as our recommendations for the integration of blogs into L2 virtual writing environments.

Abstract:
Abstract Objectives Nutrition and food blogs are internet sites that document and deliver information regarding nutrition guidance, food recipes, and cooking. Despite their popularity, little is known about the credibility of the nutrition information distributed. The objective of this study was to examine relationships between education of nutrition and food blog authors and use of evidence-based writing in their articles. Methods A purposive-snowball sampling approach was utilized to select blogs using search engines. Inclusion criteria for blogs was defined as: nutrition and food as main topic; active websites; and written in English. Data collection continued until a sample of 500 blogs was achieved. Evidence-based writing was examined by dividing blogs into two groups: evidence-based (those with scientific journals/websites cited as references for articles) and not evidence-based (no references). Pearson Chi-Square analysis was used to test relationship significance. Results Blog type categories include independent (n = 397), food commodity boards (n = 48), food/nutrition companies (n = 48), and other (n = 7). There was a significant relationship between evidence-based writing and blog type; of the 278 evidence-based blogs, 80.2% were independent, 12.9% commodity, and 6.8% company (p = 0.002). Evidence-based writing was significantly related to author education. Among the 223 independent evidence-based blogs, 59.6% of authors had a graduate degree, 33.6% bachelor's degree, and 6.7% without any education listed (P < 0.001). The majority of blogs from food commodity boards and food/nutrition companies did not include any author information and were excluded from analyses involving author education. Conclusions A higher use of evidenced-based writing was found among independent nutrition and food blogs, as compared to those from food commodity boards and food/nutrition companies. Authors with bachelor's and graduate degrees had the majority of blogs with evidence-based writing, as compared to authors with no education listed. This research suggests the importance of author education for disseminating evidence-based nutrition information through nutrition and food blogs. Abstract:
A modeling methodology for blog recommendation and forecasting based on information entropy is presented. With the increasing popularity of smartphones and the rapid development of the mobile Internet, the amount of user-generated content such as blogs is increasing daily. Valuable information, such as bloggers’ opinions, feelings, and attitudes, is often part of this content. Particularly in the context of an emergency, this information should also be used to facilitate decision making. The current blog recommendation model examines primarily users’ interests or content similarity, whereas in this paper, the value of the blog is considered. The primary contribution of this paper is the proposal of an information-entropy-based blog recommendation model for finding valuable blogs to facilitate decision-making in an emergency context. A series of indicators for evaluating a blog in an emergency context are proposed. Using the method of information entropy, a blog recommendation model is developed. The model can also be used to forecast the value of emergency blogs in the future. The model has been tested and validated using crawled data from the Sina Blog, and the results have demonstrated that the proposed model can effectively determine the value of emergency-related blogs.

Abstract:
Blogs are one of the main user-generated contents on the web and are growing in number rapidly. The characteristics of blogs require the development of specialized search methods which are tuned for the blogosphere. In this paper, we focus on blog retrieval, which aims at ranking blogs with respect to their recurrent relevance to a user’s topic. Although different blog retrieval algorithms have already been proposed, few of them have considered temporal properties of the input queries. Therefore, we propose an efficient approach to improving relevant blog retrieval using temporal property of queries. First, time sensitivity of each query is automatically computed for different time intervals based on an initially retrieved set of relevant posts. Then a temporal score is calculated for each blog and finally all blogs are ranked based on their temporal and content relevancy with regard to the input query. Experimental analysis and comparison of the proposed method are carried out using a standard dataset with 45 diverse queries. Our experimental results demonstrate that, using different measurement criteria, our proposed method outperforms other blog retrieval methods.

Abstract:
This paper focuses on the writing style in travel blogs. Its aim is to research stylistic forms typical of travel blog entries and their contribution to the functions of the travel blog as a whole. In the theoretical part of the paper, we present the characteristic features of a travel blog and the language trends in the digital age. Travel blogs have been defined as digital media settings. Blogs were once defined as websites that included bloggers’ entries and were regularly updated. They were often compared to personal journals. Today blogs have a rather complex structure and they fulfil several functions: bloggers can use their writing to stand out from the crowd, to share their experiences, opinions, once-private thoughts, and even to create a source of income. As a result, blogs are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Furthermore, travel blogs fulfil a variety of functions: the self-portraying, informative, entertaining, evaluative, advertising, instructive, and communicative function. Bloggers want to inform their followers as well as they can, but because of todays flood of information on the web, they must be careful not to let their followers drown in information. Blogs are thus characterized by syntactic compression. In the travel blogs we have analyzed, this is achieved through various linguistic means, such as nominalizations, the usage of infinitival constructions, elisions, and the usage of passive structures. These means fulfil several functions at the same time: they both convey information and help the bloggers maintain the contact with their followers. Finally, it should be noted that the present stylistic analysis has been carried out on a sample of only three travel blogs; its results should therefore not be used as a basis for generalizations. To comprehensively describe and systematize the communicative and functional aspects of the travel blog format, a larger data set consisting of several travel blogs should be analysed. In the upcoming doctoral dissertation, we are going to focus on aspects of this media format which have been only briefly mentioned in the present paper. Among them are multimodal resources, mediality, the interaction between bloggers and readers, the effect of bloggers' network on the individual text modules, and the role of embedding other semiotic resources such as videos.

Abstract:
Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA) is an efficient method of text mining, but applying LDA directly to Chinese micro-blog texts will not work well because micro-blogs are more social, brief, and closely related with each other. Based on LDA, this paper proposes a Micro-blog Relation LDA model (MR-LDA), which takes the relations between Chinese micro-blog documents and other Chinese micro-blog documents into consideration to help topic mining in micro-blog. The authors extend LDA in the following two points. First, they aggregate several Chinese micro-blogs as a single micro-blog document to solve the problem of short texts. Second, they model the generation process of Chinese micro-blogs more accurately by taking relationship between micro-blog documents into consideration. MR-LDA is more suitable to model Chinese micro-blog data. Gibbs sampling method is borrowed to inference the model. Experimental results on actual datasets show that MR-LDA model can offer an effective solution to text mining for Chinese micro-blog.

Abstract:
The phenomenal growth in both scale and importance of social media such as blogs, micro-blogs and user-generated content, has created a need for tools that monitor information diffusion and make recommendations within these platforms. An essential element of social media, particularly blogs, is the hyperlink graph that connects various pieces of content. There are two types of links within the blogosphere; one from blog post to blog post, and another from blog post to blog channel (an event stream of blog posts). These links can be viewed as a proxy for the flow of information between blog channels and to reflect influence. Given this assumption about links, the ability to predict future links can facilitate the monitoring of information diffusion, making recommendations, and word-of-mouth (WOM) marketing. We propose different methods for link predictions and we evaluate these methods on an extensive blog dataset.

Purpose – This paper aims to understand how users' perceptions of the different functions of blogs vary in educational use and personal use, and further to explore whether experience with blogs has an influence on differences in perceptions of blog functions. Design/methodology/approach – To empirically determine whether the blog functions were suitable for educational and personal use, a blog system with numerous functions was constructed for users to evaluate. In total, 48 college students were recruited to participate in the study. The participants navigated this system and then filled in a questionnaire to give their opinions on the functions of both educational blogs and personal blogs. Findings – The findings of this study indicate that of the 26 blog functions, perceptions of 20 of the functions differed significantly between educational and personal use. Moreover, the results showed that only two blog functions, backup and traffic source, were influenced by both blog experience and blog usage. Originality/value – This study distinguishes itself from the previous studies on blogging systems in its specific focus on functionality with detailed evaluation under different purposes of contexts. Practical suggestions are accordingly made for practitioners to choose when and which functions to use under different circumstances to enhance the interaction and information exchange between users in the field practice of educational blogging.

Abstract:
This article will focus on the ‘blogosphere’ in India as an emerging forum for critical readings of social and political events and issues. By concentrating on the blogosphere, read as a morphology of horizontal societal communication enabled through a network of blogs and social media sites on the internet, we have tried to offer a glimpse into the kind of issues and interactions that various groups and communities are engaging with and the scope for such online activism to usher in social transformation. For this study, we have limited our discussion to a close reading of contents on blogs as one confronts the positions and critiques offered by individuals and groups and gets a sense of the local concerns articulated in the blog entries. Our concern in this article is to fathom the potential of blogs in transformative politics and mass mobilisation, namely civic engagement against the framework of an emerging public sphere on the Internet by analysing case studies of select blogs, primarily—Kafila, an academic-activist blog, Youth Ki Awaaz (YKA ), a students’ blog and Round Table India, a Dalit blog.

The blog is one of the recent technologies in use for teaching, learning, and practicing writing (Aljumah, 2012). Blogs are an educational tool for continuous learning outside classrooms (Vurdien, 2013). The current study aims to add to the research on blogs in EFL writing by observing the writing development of EFL learners in a Saudi context. The study also investigates learners’ perceptions of utilizing blogs as tools to increase classroom engagement. The data are collected from 36 female high school students by analysing the students’ writing samples before and after the intervention, conducting a questionnaire at the end of the intervention, and interviewing select participants. Although the findings did not show any significant differences between the two writing samples, the responses from the surveys indicated positive perceptions of blogs in writing and of blogs as a tool for increasing engagement. The active interaction in peer feedback and class discussion revealed that the blog is a useful tool for learning writing.

Blogs are known for their information and knowledge sharing capabilities. Several theoretical frameworks have been proposed to study the factors that influence an individual's intention to use blogs for knowledge sharing. However, factors like content familiarity and design familiarity are lacking in the literature. Hence, this paper aims to extend past studies and investigate the influence of familiarity with blogs in knowledge sharing. Particularly, the purpose of this paper is twofold. The first objective is to explore the effect of familiarity in terms of content familiarity and design familiarity on individual intention to use a blog as a knowledge sharing tool. The second objective is to determine whether familiarity factors change with gender, blog experience, and cultural differences. The results show that content familiarity and design familiarity positively influence an individual's knowledge sharing behavior in blogs. In addition, content familiarity and design familiarity differ according to gender, blog experience, and cultural differences.

Temporally-connected personal blogs contain voluminous textual content, presenting challenges in re-visiting and reflecting on experiences. Other data repositories have benefited from natural language processing (NLP) and interactive visualizations (VIS) to support exploration, but little is known about how these techniques could be used with blogs to present experiences and support multimodal interaction with blogs, particularly for authors. This paper presents the effect of reorganization—reorganizing the large blog set with NLP and presenting abstract topics with VIS—to support novel re-visitation experiences to blogs. The BlogCloud tool, a blog re-visitation tool that reorganizes blog paragraphs around user-searched keywords, implements reorganization and similarity-based content grouping. Through a public use session with bloggers who wrote about extended hikes, we observed the effect of NLP-based reorganization in delivering novel re-visitation experiences. Findings suggest that the re-presented topics provide new reflection materials and re-visitation paths, enabling interaction with symbolic items in memory.

Abstract:
Blogs remain a popular and reliable form of online communication. As the number of dining blogs continues to rise, competition is increasingly fierce. Thus, it is important to not only draw the attention of users but to also secure followers. To increase reader loyalty, bloggers must consider blog marketing from a blog reader’s perspective. Although previous studies have explored how blog narratives influence consumer behaviors, few studies have focused on exploring the enablers of contagious content for dining blogs from a blog reader’s perspective. Creating contagious content helps to achieve the maximum benefits from blog marketing. Therefore, this study identifies the enablers of contagious blogs and models their interrelationships to aid dining bloggers in framing a consistently popular blog. Based on Berger’s six principles—social currency (S), triggers (T), emotion (E), public (P), practical value (P), and stories (S) (STEPPS)—13 main factors were first compiled through a literature review. Qualitative content analysis was then applied to extract the 31 enablers related to the main factors within the context of dining blogs. In order to identify the hierarchical relationships among the extracted enablers, this study applied interpretive structural modeling (ISM). Based on the results of ISM, cross-impact matrix multiplication applied to classification (MICMAC) describes the driving and dependence behaviors of the enablers. The results of ISM and MICMAC show areas of priority on which dining bloggers should focus to create contagious content. The most important areas include emotional stimulation, storytelling, and gamification. Finally, the theoretical and managerial implications of the findings were provided.

Abstract:
There has been a mushrooming of blogs on the Internet; in 1999, there were about 50 existing blogs and they were only known by a few individuals (Johnson, Kaye, Bichard, & Wong, 2007). However 29 percent (57 million) of American Internet users’ accessed blogs (Lenhart & Fox, 2006) and 8 out of 10 Americans knew what a blog was and almost half of America had visited blogs (Synovate, 2007). This phenomenal growth may be due to the dynamic nature of blogs; however, the aspect of ethical practices requires to be observed. While some blogs are updated weekly, many more are updated hourly (or even more frequently), with postings in reverse chronological order. Most are interactive and allow viewers to post comments (Lenhart & Fox, 2006). Unlike static websites, blogs depend upon hyperlinks not only to boost attention to their own blog but also ensure that users can be quickly led to relevant information. At their idealized best, we blogs are said to be a space to reflect on the ‘deluge of data’ (Blood, 2002) that receive, offering an antidote to the mass-mediated, corporatized culture that surrounds. They have the capability to report the news without constraints of censure or the pressures of advertising and draw upon a diverse range of sources. At their reductive worst, bloggers have been said to be strongly opinionated and even vitriolic in response to those who oppose their political positions (Johnson & Kaye, 2004).

Abstract:
Video hosting has received rapid development at the present time. This has led to its use for advertising and marketing purposes. The article presents the results of the author's empirical research. The purpose of the study was to determine the optimal parameters of advertising in video blogs. Through a survey of video blog users the authors identified a number of parameters: the degree of user confidence in the opinion of bloggers and in the goods advertised by them; the correlation between the status of a blogger and the degree of user confidence in advertising posted on his video blog; the most attractive products or services for advertising in video blogs; the most attractive video blog advertising format; the optimal duration of the commercial in the video blog; the attitude of video blog visitors to pop-up ads; the optimal location of advertising in the video blog; and change of the purchasing behavior of users under the influence of advertising in a video blog. The results obtained made it possible to present a list of parameters for the effective use of advertising in video blogs. An attempt to determine these characteristics is important as it allows us to answer many questions related to the use of advertising in video hosting. The authors gave recommendations for future studies of advertising in video blogs.

Abstract:
Today Web 2.0 technologies, including blogs, are presenting both teachers and learners with new horizons in the field of language teaching and learning. A blog is an online journal which can be continuously updated by its users (Matheson, 2004). People can write their views at their own pace without space and time constraints. Blogs aid in the development of interpretive and critical thinking skills. The present study explores how a blog as a computermediated tool engages a group of EFL learners, at a language school in Spain, in reflective and collaborative learning, and argues that personal blogs can motivate students to build on their writing skills through self-reflection and peer feedback. The students had become more careful with planning their task and error correction before submitting their work. Collaborative skills were also fostered through students’ regular interaction on the blogs.

Abstract:
Purpose/Significance. This study aims to explore the differences in the effectiveness of rumor refutation dissemination on government micro-blogs and to identify factors that may lead to such differences, so as to provide reference for the management of emergencies and to improve the effectiveness of rumor refutation. Methodology/Procedure. Using Octopus software to collect data from thirty government micro-blogs, the number of retweets, likes, and comments were used as indicators of the effectiveness of refutation dissemination and different levels of government micro-blogs were used as moderating variables to construct a regression model of the effect of content features and text features on refutation dissemination. The regression model was constructed to test the moderating effects of micro-blog content and text features on the effectiveness of micro-blog refutation. Results/Conclusions. The empirical results show that whether a micro-blog is from the region or not and whether a micro-blog has a title or not have a significant effect on the effectiveness of micro-blog refutation dissemination. Therefore, refutation strategies such as combining layers, giving equal importance to content and form, and focusing on originality can be adopted to enhance the refutation effect of government micro-blogs.

Abstract:
The secondary forwarding of micro-blog can realize the fission transmission of micro-blog information, so the researches on Influential Factors of micro-blog retweeting has become a research hotspot of current scholars. Based on Lasswell’s 5W model, this paper comprehensively analyzes the factors influencing micro-blog forwarding from the standpoint of disseminator, content, channel and audience, and puts forward 16 research hypotheses, then constructs an influential factors model of micro-blog retweeting, and finally verifies the hypothesis based on binary logistic regression analysis model. Data analysis results show that the count of the fans of a disseminator, count of micro-blogs of a disseminator, mean count of micro-blogs being forwarded of a disseminator, mean count of micro-blogs being commented and thumbed of a disseminator, length of micro-blog, popularity of micro-blog, followees count of an audience, activity of audience retweeting, an audience’s retweeting concern to his followee show a positive effect on the behavior of retweeting, while richness of micro-blog, emotion words, count of fans of the audience have a negative impact on the retweeting behavior.

Abstract:
Abstract While early blogging research focused on top-ranked blogs commenting on public events, recent research confirms that most blogs today concern the personal life of the blogger. The present article focuses on a particular case of blogs that falls in between these categories. In Sweden, personal blogs written by young women have dominated the ranking lists of the most popular blogs during recent years. This new phenomenon is approached through an analysis of the characteristics and content of 20 top-ranked blogs authored by young women. Through their popularity, these bloggers have come to introduce commercial and professional aspects of blogging that challenge the conventions of personal blogs. The article analyses how the bloggers negotiate these conventions in self-presentations, postings and relations to readers and how they seek to perform a self through the blog that integrates different aspects of blogging. A crucial part of this process is identification with the gender conventions of “ordinary girls”.
