Abstract:
While Swedish public schools are increasingly using social media to communicate with students, there are also concerns about social media being a distraction—especially in the context of one laptop per child class rooms. To further the understanding of this apparent conflict between the benefits and risks of social media use in schools, this paper studies how two Swedish publicschools use blogs for teacher–student communication. We conduct an inductive content analysis of research literature, and find that previous work suggests seven uses of blogs in teacher–student communication: 1) Informing and Instructing; 2) Posting supplemental material; 3) Prompting; 4) Blogging as assignment; 5) Communitybuilding; 6) Discussion/Collaboration; and 7) Interacting with external readers/commenters. By using these concepts as a matrix for a deductive content analysis of posts and comments tofour class blogs during the fall of 2011, we show that while the studied schools use their blogsfor informing and instructing, mainly in the form of recaps and previews of previous and cominglessons, and for posting supplemental material, we find few instances of discussion/collaboration and blogging as assignment, and no instances of interacting with external readers or community building. Further, we find that schools also use blogs to increase transparency of examinations and to strengthen the student–teacher relationship through what we term social posts. These results indicate that blogs are, in the schools we studied, used in a fairly narrow way, and that the schools’ use of blogs could benefit from deliberate strategies for encouraging discussion and by engaging external readers, so as to build and further strengthen blog-based communities.

Abstract:
The 2000s have been marked by blogs, starting out with the creation of a few hundred blogs spaces at the start of the decade to number around 160 million units indexed by dedicated search engines. This doctoral thesis aims to contribute to undestanding the phenomenon and its dynamics. France is the main focus of study, from 2002 when the first blog platforms began to appear, until 2009 when the websites qualifying as social networks entered the arena. Two empirical approaches have been adopted. The first approach consists of a general observation of the dynamics which surrounded the soar in the development of blogs. We demonstrate that the world of blogs can be identified by a process of segmentation, linked to differentiated forms of appropriation of the same publication format, giving rise to a variety of intertwined social worlds. The second approach comprises a longitudinal study of the "careers" of ten bloggers over the reference period. For these individuals, the world of blogs has enabled them to undertake publication activities. Over time, they have learned how to progress in the blog world twilight zone, thereby avoiding excessive visibility whilst still finding the resources necessary to remaining culturally sociable. At the crossroads these approaches in the field, lies the interactionist notion of the social world, combined with the sociologies of mediation, attachment and taste. Behind this methodological assembly, another object becomes apparent : the reception. This work also seeks to understand the blog public

The present work lies on the borderline between Linguistics and Communication Studies. It aims to investigate the interactions within the comments published by readers at four institutional journalism blogs: Blog Noblat MiriamLeitão.com Blog, Blog do Reinaldo Azevedo Blog and Josias de Souza. It attempts to define which Involvement strategies are used by the readers comments to relate to the blog author (the blogger), to other readers who also publish their opinions (reader/commentators) and to the topic of the text (the post). Moreover,he purpose of this re search is to clarify whether or not real conversation occurs within the comments window, in terms of the criteria described by authors of Communication Studies. To this end, a corpus of 400 comments was compiled whose content demonstrates readers critical views. All the comments deal with the same theme: the blackout which occurred on November 10th 2009 in 18 Brazilian states. Such messages have been analyzed from a predominantly qualitative method based on the interpretation of the data, but a quantitative approach have also been considered to allow for more comprehensive and comparative data. In the absence of a theoretical linguistics framework which could cover the interactional phenomena identified within the comments sections of blogs, a proposal of empirical analysis based on Eggins and Slade (1997) was developed, which guided the entire research. Among the findings of the survey it may be argued that while blogs have inaugurated a new form of relationship between the journalist and their audience, there is, in addition, evidence that most readers use the blogs as a space for the publication of personal opinions, rather than an environment with extensive interactive possibilities

This study analyses the language of “art blogs”, i.e. blogs dealing with art, through a specialised corpus of fifty-four blogs published during 2013. Both posts and comments are included in the present investigation into the linguistic character of art blogs. The methodological choices reflect the need for a multifaceted analysis which covers different aspects, from text typology to linguistic creativity and popularisation. A review of the relevant literature on blogs brings to light the need for a specific characterisation of art blogs, since they tend to have a blended style, which cannot be ascribed to the traditional categories of personal and thematic blogging. The distinctive features of posts and comments are then investigated through a multidimensional analysis which reveals that posts and comments are two different text types. Successively, the corpus is compared to a specialised corpus of art announcements, within the field of popularised and specialised discourse. Finally, several examples of linguistic creativity are explored and presented, thus showing that traditional descriptive paradigms are unsuited to analyse the outcomes of art bloggers.

Abstract:
As publication and social media tools, blogs related to individual daily routine explore the immersive and interactive potential from the digital media composing meaning circuits in the hypertextual labyrinth by considering a interdiscourse point of view. From a theoretical and methodological discursive perspective, either syntactic, semantic and pragmatic textual plans are evaluated in order to investigate the ways in which the subject emerges within space and time and to explore analytically the identity and subjectivity articulation, the memory process and the connection between public and private in the cyberspace. This method of analysis provides the object with a prospect of not only a component of multi-directional communication devices but as a tool to articulate the self narrative, marked by a specific form of enunciation that differs from the traditional journal due to hypertextual context that changes the discourse production. This methodology is based on the Theory of Enunciation and in the French Discourse Analysis, both focused not only on the linguistic mechanisms of subjective insurgency but also on the ways of the subject insertion in the order of discourse.

Abstract:
News credibility studies have been around since radio and television began competing with the newspaper industry for consumers' attention. However, at this time, the news industry is experiencing a shift in medium as the Internet is quickly becoming the predominant source by which many get their news. Due to the free and independent nature of the Internet and the rise of blogging as a source by which people get news and information, audience perception of what constitutes a credible source needed to be examined. This study took the dimensions of news credibility that have been set in previous studies and compared them against an individual's news blog use to see if there was any change in what was important in measuring credibility. Through these comparisons, the measure that was used in previous studies did not seem deep enough and did not produce the expected outcome. Barely touching on each dimension, this study calls for individual studies on each dimension that would provide a better look at how credibility is perceived by news blog users.

Abstract:
The aim of the essay has been to examine commentaries on Swedish literature blogs. Discourse analysis has been used to determine the nature of the discourse. The discourse has been compared to research on traditional reading groups, in order to determine if and how the phenomena sup-plement one another. The question of the essay is: “How is literature discussed and interpreted in blog commentaries?”The results show that one tenth of the 165 commentaries that have been studied contain interpre-tation. This means that the readers who visit the blogs do not mainly do this to interpret literature. The discourse is characterized by evaluation of books and reading. The commentators have a need to express their feelings about the literature they are reading rather than search for the meaning of the work, or the intention of the author.Among commentators, the interaction is active. As a result, relationships are created amongst commentators and different literature blogs. Traditional reading groups often consist of a set mem-bership that meet on fixed times, while some of the commentators in the study have participated only with one entry. The blog commentaries can hardly replace the traditional reading group, but it can however be a complement for the reader who wants to discuss his or her experience and search for a social community in which to do so.

Abstract:
Knowledge is considered one of the main assets of a company. It allows the company to add value to its products, solve problems and produce new knowledge from existing ones. The knowledge creation is understood as a collaborative transformation process and it has a dynamic character, which is based on the interaction of individuals as social agents in the organizational context. In this sense, it is assumed in this paper that the knowledge creation depends on the cognitive mobilization and social legitimacy, and middle management has an important role of mediating such a process. By studying the corporate blogs of two construction companies, this paper aimed to analyze how the blogs results relate to the knowledge creation for both companies. Data were collected through interviews-with managers and semi-structured questionnaire directed to workers from different sectors of the company. Data were analyzed using the thematic content analysis to identify and prioritize the contents of the interviews. The results indicated that the factors which influence the knowledge creation for companies through the use of corporate blogs are: the interaction that occurs between the user and the company, the blog deployment process, the blog validation by senior management, the commitment and discipline of those responsible for maintaining the blog, the involvement with the blog by different departments employees in the company and the middle managers role as knowledge activist or worker. Thus, the blog can provide knowledge creation to the company, however, for this to occur it is necessary that the company establish an information analysis process and collaboration captured on the blog and the cognitive mobilization and social legitimacy must occur for both employees and the company's board. Therefore, although results indicate that corporate blogs allow the knowledge creation for the company, it is evident this is not the goal that guides its deployment.

This search aims to investigate the use of blogs by young people. For the study, we selected ten young bloggers aged between 16 and 23 years old. The research with blogs shows that the imaginary of these young presents a feature of political engagement and interactive action into the context of universal communication. It reveals into a tangle of images, icons and faces, a feature of a youth that denies the crystallized concept that the digital generation is alienated or apolitical. Thus, by following the blogs, it was possible to notice the gaps, the cracks and the points of tension and disruption, because, apart from the carefree activity of also spending the time, we see a political and cultural practice of young of this time, who find in blogs a form of access, a way of being part of the world. It is about this plateau that we write.

Abstract:
This phenomenological study examines the motivations and experiences of librarians who author professionally-focused Weblogs. I constructed a model of librarianship based on Wilson and Buckland. The results show a close fit between librarian bloggers and the ideals of the field as expressed by two primary library and information science philosophers. A Web survey generated 239 responses to demographic and open-ended questions. Using the results of the survey, I analyzed demographic data and performed a phenomenological analysis of the open-ended questions. A list of category responses was generated from each set of answers via the coding of descriptive words and phrases. Results indicated the motivations of librarian bloggers are based around themes of sharing, participation in community, and enhanced professional development. Respondents reported feeling more connected to the profession and to colleagues across the world because of blogging. Respondents perceived the librarian blogosphere as a community with both positive aspects - feedback, discussion, and support - and negative aspects - insular voices, divides between technologists and librarians, and generational rifts. Respondents also reported an increased ability to keep current, improved writing skills, and opportunities to speak and contribute to professional journals.

É a chamada liberação do polo emissor.

Abstract : The internet and new communications technologies have led to significant changes in the dissemination of science. One of the great features of this new context is communication in all - all model that allows anyone to produce and publish content on the network. It's called the liberation of the pole emitter. We can all be senders and receivers of information. Thus, in the new medium, journalists are not alone in the activity of bringing information science to the public. They share space and public attention with several other actors who also disseminate information, including scientists and researchers. Until then journalists hold the power to determine how the scientific information would reach the public, now own sources of information are able to do so. And among the various initiatives for scientific dissemination available on the internet, the blogs have been widely used both by journalists and by scientists in the search for new models of scientific publishing. Given this context, this work has as its object of study the dynamics of science writing on Brazilian blogs of journalists and scientists. So, the corpus of this research was formed by 20 most recent posts prior to October 1, 2013 and the related comments to these posts from four Brazilian blogs: i ) the Rainha Vermelha blog, written independently by scientist Atila Iamarino; ii) the Xis Xis blog, written independently by journalist Isis Nóbile Diniz; iii) the Blog do Dr. Jairo Bouer, written by the doctor Jairo Bouer and linked to UOL; iv ) the Mundo Sustentável blog, written by journalist André Trigueiro and linked to G1 portal. The goal is to characterize how is the dynamics of scientific communication in these blogs from three levels of analysis: obtaining marks, marks composition, and marks circulation of information published in the posts. The aim is also to investigate in what ways the dynamics of scientific communication in blogs scientists differs or is similar to the dynamics of blogging journalists and science blogs linked to major media outlets and news portal have distinct dynamics of independent blogs. From the results obtained, we seek to understand the role of blogs in the new scenario of scientific dissemination of the XXI century and discuss whether they actually promote greater involvement of citizens in discussions about science.

Abstract:

The arrangement of the conversation in all three environments was done and represented graphically to help the observation of how he interacting talk on the blogs. Interviews with the blogs' writers and the Conversation Analysis on the comments to their postings served as instruments of analysis. The computer-mediated interaction was contrasted with the face-to-face interaction, in order to acknowledge the transformations in the virtual, in relation to presential. The results point that the practice of the bloggers while dealing with comments interferes on the way the conversation is held in given environment. The control over the comments, or the lack of it by the blogger, sometimes orients to one-to-one interaction, while other times orients to all-to-all interaction. The result shows practices of how the conversations on these blogs' comment areas are, and offers indication to the studies of online conversation.

Abstract:
In recent years, many blogs have gained notoriety and have become authorities in certain niches. These blogs attract both the attention of the public as well as companies aiming to develop promotional campaigns targeting blogs audience. Moreover, the development of online advertising services allows the emergence of new small advertisers, in addition to new small vehicles willing to display ads. Therefore, the objective of this study is to understand the professionalization of Brazilian blogs through an investigation of the promotional dynamics in the blogosphere. The research discusses the relationship between the participatory culture (Jenkins, 2006b) of the Internet, the virtualization of the economy and the role of bloggers in this context. In order to achieve this work's goals, a netnographic study was conducted and it consisted of: a) following the 100 most authoritative Brazilian blogs ranked in the Blogblogs index to investigate the presence and management of advertising and to find other evidences of the professionalization of the medium; b) conducting a participant observation in the I Digital and Social Media Forum (FMDS) and in the BlogCamp Paraná.

Abstract:

This paper investigates the role of Swedish blogs as a channel for introduction and establishment of English loans. The direct loans, covering both single-word loans and phrasal loans, were collected from nine blogs at three points in time: 2000, 2004 and 2008. The dimensions of frequency, distribution, formal integration and establishment in Swedish normative dictionaries were used to analyze the samples as unintegrated, interim or established loans in accordance with Chrystal (1988). A newspaper corpus was used to compare the borrowings’ time of appearance to see whether the blogs have a more active role in introducing borrowings than newspapers have.      Of the single-word loans accounted for, 24 were unintegrated, 19 interim and 5 established. The phrasal loans showed 27 unintegrated, 30 interim and 1 established borrowing. When compared to the newspaper corpus, 10 single-word loans and 32 phrasal loans occurred only in blogs or in blogs before they occurred in the corpus, while 38 single-word loans and 26 phrases occurred in the corpus before or at the same time as in the blogs. Nine of the unintegrated or interim loans in the blogs were subsequently established in a Swedish dictionary. The results indicate that blogs do have a role in introducing and establishing borrowings in Swedish, but from this qualitative investigation it is not possible to determine the magnitude of their influence.

Abstract:
In today’s society, social media has become a part of many people’s everyday life. Social media can be seen as a new phenomenon with millions of daily users all over the world. Social media can further be defined as a forum where people are able to communicate and interact with each other. This bachelor thesis is based on the social media phenomena; blogs- a forum that cannot be ignored. Internet is today commonly used as an information source, the question is if blogs work in the same way and what influence do blogs have over its receivers? This created the purpose of the research; to describe to what degree consumers are getting influenced over what is being negotiated in blogs. The purpose will be answered with help of a research question; what type of influence do blogs have over consumers? Which further are complemented with three hypotheses. In this research a theoretical framework is presented with the theories; brand image, social media, blogs, word of mouth and opinion leader. To gain empirical evidence and to be able to answer the purpose of the research a quantitative method approach has been performed and the empirical findings where done though a questionnaire. Which was further analyzed, with help from the statistical data program SPSS. The conclusion of the research has developed knowledge in the area, blog and moreover to which degree the forum influences its consumers. It could be established that blog have an impact and a relationship to the variables, brand image, word of mouth and opinion leader.

Abstract:
This thesis is the result of twenty-five months of ethnographic fieldwork, both online and offline, in the United Kingdom working with London-based fashion bloggers. It aims to examine the ways that bloggers negotiate between style and identity through the presentation of self in online environments, more specifically fashion blogs and corresponding social media websites, as well as offline spaces, including London Fashion Week, industry events, and regular social interactions with other bloggers and blog readers. It also address the relationships between bloggers and members of the fashion industry, as the industry struggles to define a place for them. Furthermore, this thesis hopes to contribute to growing debates regarding the potentiality of media anthropology to influence the creation and production of ethnographic texts.

Currently, the educational practices with the use of technologies and media are on the rise, especially educational blogs. In this study, we sought to investigate the possibilities of providing a holistic education in its spiritual aspect, through blogs. To this end, the research participant chose a qualitative approach, which favors the active participation of researchers throughout the research process. We conducted awareness workshops and training for the use of blogs and from them formed the research group that meets periodically to plan and preparation of posts to be made available to students. Having to build posts within a holistic education has generated a process of reflection among educators participating in the survey. In this process, the spirituality, defined by the broader sense of life, or see beyond yourself, other people first and then the nature, considering the spiritual can be seen in the collective construction in the awareness of educators together with your student and their peers in the joint constructions and effective collaboration throughout the research process. Parallel to the blog for students, another blog was created for readings, discussions and dialogues among researchers. As a result of the investigation revealed three major categories: opportunities, challenges and demonstrated the multidimensional alternatives that do the teaching in a holistic education blogs pointing out the possibility of serving as a means towards Holistic Education providing opportunities to researchers and strengthening the links reflections, grounded in spirituality. It is hoped that this study can help educators reflect on their practice, discovering new possibilities for a holistic education in its spiritual aspect.

Abstract:
Since 2001, when the first Iranian blog was created, blogging has been received with remarkable enthusiasm among Iranians, and this has taken place in a society where self expression is limited for various reasons and little value is accorded to individual expression. The empirical field investigation (content analysis of six month of the post published on thirty blogs and their comments, as semi-structured interviews with their authors) allowed us to explore two main reasons for blogging, but also for their abandonment. In the first part, we tackle the question of self construction. We show that recognition and esteem of readers, make the bloggers aware of their different capacities. Blogging gives them the possibility of being as they wish and not what the society, the family or the state imposes. In this respect, blogging participates in construction of a self more fulfilled, more authentic and more individualized. The second part is devoted to the study of the establishment and conservation of the relationship created on blogs. Field study shows that Iranian blogosphere is constituted by multiple social circles. Every blogger is within one or several circle. We analyze how these circles are constructed and what role they play in forming and conserving of the relationships. These relationships are shaped according to certain rules of which the main is examined. Finally, the last part studies the question of blog abandonment, placing the blogger’s practice in current context of Iranian society

Abstract:
This work aims to identify and to analyze the changes that occurred in (1) blogging activity, (2) motivations for blogging, (3) and relationships established in autoreflexive personal blogs, which are disclosed by the media as “online diaries”. In this study, the movement generated by the recursion of these three elements – motivations, practices and relations – is called “relational dynamics”. By adopting the perspective of anthropology in cyberspace, an ethnographic study is conducted in three autoreflexive personal blogs. This anthropological perspective considers the complementary of online and offline dimensions and it also situates the researcher as a “native” of his own field of study, the cyberspace. Thus, based on analysis of 1,137 posts, 2,078 comments and individual interviews with the bloggers, a “thick description” of the relational dynamics of selected blogs is conducted. The results indicate that autoreflexive personal blogs are not exempt from strategic actions, even being a space to let off steam, to muse and release emotional tensions. The results also show that specific characteristics of autoreflexive personal blogs promote the emergence of feelings such as affinity and complicity between bloggers and readers. However, as these relations become more intimate, they are being established in other media more responsive than blogs – such as e-mail, telephone and face to face meetings – and easier to be updated, as social networking sites and microposting platforms.

Abstract:
The goal of this research is to map processes of political idealization and how images are used and understood within the waterboarding blogs included in the case study. Chapter One is designed to provide basic information about the waterboarding issue and elements of this research more generally. The first chapter provides the following: information regarding the background facts of the waterboarding issue, research methods, research limitations, general descriptions of the blogs included in the case study, information about the general findings/data, and a brief explanation of why the blogs were chosen to be included in the case study. Chapter Two maps how elements of political idealization operate in the waterboarding blog case study. The first section of this chapter outlines Wendy Brownâ s theories connected to the process of political idealization. The second section maps the process of political idealization within the context of the waterboarding blog case study. The second section is broken into three additional sub-sections each representing a stage in the political idealization process. Chapter Three uses Aaron Barlowâ s outline of the emergence of the â Celebrity Journalistâ as the premise to provide a partial explanation of why some political subjects are looking to virtual publics to supplement news media. The main purpose of Chapter Three is to map how images are used in the CODEPINK and Kaj Larsen video clip.

Abstract:
This thesis investigates the rhetorical features of blogs that lend them dialogic strength as an online genre through the lens of Mikhail Bakhtin's theories of speech genres, utterances, and dialogism. As a relatively new online genre, blogs stem from previous genres (in print and online as well as verbal), but their emergence as a popular form of expression in our current culture demands attention to how blogs also offer us different rhetorical opportunities to meet our changing social exigencies as online subjects in the 21st century. This thesis was inspired by questions about how blogs redefine the rhetorical situation to alter our textual roles as readers, writers, and respondents in the new generic circumstances we encounter--and reproduce--online. Applying the framework of Henry Jenkins' Convergence Culture and Pierre Levy's Collective Intelligence, this thesis analyzes how blogs enable us as online subjects to add our utterances to our textual collective intelligence, which benefits from our personal experience and the epistemic conversations of blogs as online texts. In addition, it is also an inquiry into how the rhetorical circumstances of blogs as textual sites of collective intelligence can create a reciprocal learning environment in the writing classroom. I ultimately examine blogs through the lenses of alternative pedagogy--informed by David Wallace and Helen Rothschild Ewald's Mutuality in the Rhetoric and Composition Classroom and Xin Liu Gale's Teachers, Discourses, and Authority in the Postmodern Composition Classroom--to suggest the potential consequences of a writing education that includes how we are currently writing--and being written by--our culture's online generic practice of blogs.

Abstract:
The thesis of this work is that some American political blogs are not only aform of citizen journalism but also assets during elections. We have three objectives in the present work : demonstrating not only the agenda setting power of political and current event blogs but also its legitimacy as aform ofpost modernjournalism in light of what itproduces (news staries, reports...) and its values. This thesis also aims to show the mobilizing capabilities of political blogs via an analysis of Howard Dean's cyber campaign during the 2003 democratic primaries in anticipation of the 2004 presidential campaign. To undertake this work we will resort to three theories: the uses and gratifications theory that describes the reasons whypeople are attracted to aparticular media and the satisfaction they derive from it. Network theory that explains the formation and the functioning of networks. ltproved helpful to grasp the structure of political blogs and the way they manage to sway . the work of mainstream media. Eventually Agenda setting theory made easier the analysis of mainstream media's influence on interpersonal conversations and the transposition of this mode! on the fashion with which current events and political blogs influence mainstream media's coverage

Abstract:
Investigation about blogs as a new webjournalism category, making a case study from BLOG DO NOBLAT to discover if blogs can innovate daily journalism practice. We approached the blog under study through qualitative textual analysis, with documental analysis and an open and semi-structured individual interview with the journalist, observing Ricardo Noblats professional appropriation and exploration of blog potentials. We arrived to ten aspects of webjornalism present in the blog, according to three perspectives: a) relations among media; b) the relationship between blog and journalist/blogger and readers/internet users; c) blogs and what it means to be journalist or make journalism. We note that blogs can be a new webjournalism category that appear specifically in the internet: they have a new content organization standard that is completely different from the one adopted by other news media for decades. They allow a new journalist/blogger and readers/internet users relationship with a more constant dialogue and easier exchange between the agents in a communicative process. They can make journalists more receptive to his publics opinion. We also note that blogs give journalists more freedom from his boss and communication companies, maintaining his status like a reality intermediary for society

Abstract:
This thesis seeks to understand the phenomenon of networked symbolic violence in the Chinese micro-blog sphere. The main research questions are: (1) what are the main features of networked symbolic violence on the Chinese micro-blog Weibo, and (2) what are the main aspects of networked symbolic violence? In this study, the theory of structural violence, symbolic violence and the law of the mental unity of crowds will be used as the theoretical framework. Through a literature review and two case studies using content analysis, the findings of this study reveal that networked symbolic violence has four different stages: the beginning phase, the rising phase, the explosive phase and the dying down phase. And there are four main types of networked symbolic violence on Chinese micro-blog, they are aggressive language, aggressive symbols which contain metaphorical expressions of insult to attack others online, malicious rumors, and revealing others’ privacy. Furthermore, the networked symbolic violence on micro-blogs has four phases: a beginning phase, a rising phase, an explosive phase, and a dying-down phase. In the discussion part, the phenomenon of the crowd in the micro-blog era is discussed. Some tentative measures are also provided to prevent and stop networked symbolic violence on Chinese micro-blogs. Finally, the author indicates that it is necessary to conduct further researches on the cause of networked symbolic violence in Chinese society.
