Abstract:
The increasing use of micro-blogging as a marketing tool has increased research attention on usage and business value of enterprise micro-blogging. Based on research on information system (IS) usage and resource-based view (RBV) theory, this study develops a model to reveal the mechanism of business value creation of enterprise micro-blogging. The model consists of metrics on micro-blogging usage, micro-blogging operational performance, marketing capability, and firm performance. Questionnaires were distributed to firms that use micro-blogging. This study collects 241 valid responses for empirical analysis. The results suggest that the use of enterprise micro-blogging improves operational performance of enterprise micro-blogging directly and indirectly by increasing marketing capability, while operational performance of enterprise micro-blogging significantly affects firm performance. This study extends the stream of research that combines IS usage and RBV theory.

Abstract:
With the development of free and easy-to-use software programs, blogging has helped turn Web consumers into Web content providers. Blogging provides distinctive insight into comprehending e-consumer behavior explicitly with respect to social networking and information searching behaviors while facilitating a state of flow. The objectives of this study are to identify determinant dimensions of blogging motivations and flow, and to investigate the hypothesized relationships of the motivational blogging behavior. Analyzing data (n = 432) from a southwestern university, results reveal the critical dimensions of motivations, behaviors, and flow in blogging. Upon extending Hoffman and Novak's (1996) flow model, 14 out of 26 hypotheses were confirmed regarding the significant impacts of blogging motivations and flow on blogging behaviors. The findings revealed that the desire for information, enjoyment, and loyalty are the primary drivers for experiential blogging behavior. Specifically, information-seeking is the decisive motivation to urge experiential and e-shopping behavior concurrently. This study shows that indulgence and telepresence in flow might play pivotal mediating roles to promote the goal-oriented e-shopping behavior resulting enjoyment and loyalty-seeking motivations.

Abstract:
Blogs, one of the latest emerging tools for communication, are gaining widespread popularity and becoming increasingly common. More and more people blog and use blogs as a way to share information about themselves with other participants or viewers. By doing so, they create their so-called 'virtual self. 810g was chosen to be the main theme of this study not only because of its increase in user number but also its uniqueness that differentiates it from other types of online communication. This study explores social identities in blogging communities. It argues that, though the use of Slogs has been studied, emphasis has remained primarily on its types and features, rather than on how it can create social identities. This research investigates how social identity is formed and developed within blogging communities, how people present themselves in virtual communities by using blogs and how the social identity of individual bloggers influences and is being influenced by the blogging community. In addition, this study also investigates how braggers' identities have changed over time. The result shows how individual members present their identities through different roles and how these roles change over time. These issues are explored in selected bragging sites by using participant observation as the main method of data collection, and allowing the researcher to gain rich data. The collected data includes logs based on observations, together with 40 bloggers' interviews. This resulted in an extensive amount of data being gathered, which was analysed, categorised, interpreted, and summarised in relation to the framework of the study. The findings from this interpretive work were used to develop the understanding needed to answer the research questions in the form of confirming, expanding and strengthening the conceptual framework of the study. In addition, analysis reveals that social identities are created in blogging communities while bloggers adopted different types of social roles within online communities, and these have an effect on members as well as on the community in general.

Tang, Hai. "The politics of blogging in China." Thesis, University of Sussex, 2016. http://sro.sussex.ac.uk/id/eprint/60111/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis aims to conceptualize the growing use of the blog as socio-political practice in an emerging Chinese public sphere. It is built on the study of three key blogs that, for different reasons, are held to be important in the recent history of blogging in China: a sexual blog (Muzi Mei's Love Letters Left, 2003), a journalist's blog (Lian Yue's Lian Yue's Eighth Continent, 2007), and a satirical blog (Wang Xiaofeng's No Guess, 2006-2011). I say they are important because the three blogs support my central argument of this thesis: blogging can be seen as a new form of political expression/participation in China. Such expression/participation is embedded in its creative challenges and negotiations pushing the political boundaries of tolerance subsequently operating within an authoritarian media system. Through a combination of analyses, I explore how Chinese ‘intellectuals' (loosely defined as educated, urban and middle-class netizens) use their professional skills, expertise and cultural capital in the public space of the Chinese blogosphere, how their blogs reshape the form of China's political culture, and how the blogosphere, through such interventions, proceeds in the development of political communications. Through these analyses I address three key issues, all of which arise in these cases, and were drawn attention in the Chinese blogosphere from 2003 to 2011. Firstly, the rise of individualism in China, and the rise of peer-to-peer media means that bloggers who pursue self-expression simultaneously engage in political discourse through such self-expression. The three examples given in this study demonstrate that individual opinions across the blogosphere have significantly reflected public consensus and implicitly challenged orthodox political discourse. My chapter on Muzi Mei's sexual diary, for instance, explores this theme – a young woman's sexual life, I argue, works as a controversy challenging to Chinese gender politics – and perhaps translates also to become political in other ways too. Secondly, drawing on the concept of ‘blogging culture', I argue that blogging has potentially reconfigured political information (taking people's everyday lives as a starting point), increasing the visibility of political struggle and offering alternative modes of ‘public talk'. This can be seen in both the case of Lian Yue and Wang Xiaofeng – the former writes about a well-known government project – Xiamen PX event in 2007, presenting a radical practice of news reporting that has challenged the legitimacy of traditional sense of journalism in China. The latter uses satire to make fun of the State, Party leaders, mainstream media, policies and established ideologies, improving a previously restricted communicative environment towards more open. Thirdly, the Chinese blogosphere has arguably created a new generation of elites – these ‘new' elites are ‘ambiguous' or ‘dissident' elites in contrast to the older, more traditional understanding of an ‘establishment' elite. In other words, even though the orthodox elite culture promoted by politicians, celebrities and cultural elites is still the mainstream in the blogosphere, such a ‘mainstream' is gradually questioned, criticized and challenged by the commonly shared ideas, beliefs and values disseminated by Chinese radical bloggers such as Muzi Mei, Lian Yue and Wang Xiaofeng who are aware of new cultural, social and political contexts. However, as this thesis suggests, political or political-based expression in China still has to constantly negotiate with ongoing censorship, along with an unstable discursive space and thus, can only enjoy a limited success. Therefore, the Chinese blogosphere, as a public space for political communication, still has a long way to go.

Garland, Wendy. "Blogging Out of Debt: An Observational Netnography." VCU Scholars Compass, 2009. http://scholarscompass.vcu.edu/etd/2004.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to observe weblogs in their natural setting and to investigate the nature of collective learning within the debt blogging community. How individuals who blog their experiences with getting out of debt use their weblogs as well as the role of the commenter in the debt blogging process were also researched. Four distinct literature pools were used to frame this study including the theory of social constructivism, the context of communities of practice, the problem of consumer debt, and the medium of blogging. Utilizing observational netnography, six weblogs were researched which were comprised of individuals or couples trying to get out of debt or who have recently achieved that goal. The primary data included weblog entries and comments from the inception of the weblog to the date of the IRB approval. In addition, “About Me” pages, blogrolls, personal widgets, hypertext links, static text, and the visual context of the weblogs were also included as part of the data. The findings are as follows: First, the analysis of the data revealed six main themes in regard to the nature of collective learning within the debt blogging community. These weblogs (1) distinguish levels of participation, (2) unify and commit participants, (3) remove barriers, (4) contribute to personal growth, (5) allow for personal navigation, and (6) inspire/help others. Many of these themes are founded in the communities of practice literature, but were expanded in this study to illustrate understanding in the context of a weblog as a virtual community of practice. Second, research findings indicate the main uses of debt blogs were to (1) document financial life, (2) articulate opinions, (3) reach out, (4) express self, (5) build communities, and (6) promote accountability. Each of these findings with the exception of promoting accountability has been found in the literature. Accountability has two distinct components – internal and external. The debt bloggers feel obligated to post due to their own internal sense of responsibility as well as external obligation to post due to their duty to the community. This may be unique to debt bloggers or to those who blog about a specific problem. Finally, the analysis of the data provided seven distinct roles of the commenter: (1) supporter, (2) challenger, (3) confirmer/mirror, (4) admirer, (5) seeker of information/advice, (6) provider of information/advice, and (7) connector of community. The research findings revealed insights to the complex interaction of bloggers and commenters and the technical difficulty with capturing the dynamic nature of weblogs.

Abstract:
The paper focuses on blogging and vlogging, two concepts that can be used in modern education. Today, both in higher education and school education, is acknowledged the role of the Internet in teaching, learning and assessment. In many cases, the Web has become an indispensable tool for all educational actors, both in the classroom and outside it. Modern technologies offer a wide range of applications, they represent the foundation for a new system of providing education and building knowledge. More and more voices say that we are moving towards a revolution in education; the current role of the teacher, that of knowledge conveyor, loses much of its poignancy. Learning is oriented to person, allowing those who study to choose content and tools appropriate to their interests, needs and skill levels. The first part of the paper deals with the concept of blogging and gives also examples of educational blogs. The blog gives you the freedom to add any kind of content. The choice depends only on the imagination of each user. Blogs have become a well-established form of expression in the online environment. The second part presents the concept of vlogging and examples of vlogs. When we say online video content, the first and most famous notion that occurs naturally is vlogging (a form of blogging, but using video as a form of content). Through it, people of all ages and from all over the world make their voice heard and build impressive communities around online video content. Vlogging began to enjoy a growing global popularity, especially among young people. Whether at the beginning it was rather a form of entertainment, recently, internationally, it can be noticed a transition to education. School, in turn, make a gradual transition to video learning (e-learning), to alternative classrooms, to courses held on Skype, foreign language classes taken online or digital tests. The conclusion of the paper is that blogging / vlogging in education has advantages, disadvantages but also offers opportunities for improving the quality of education. The use of new technologies in education has shifted the focus from accumulation of knowledge to build practical skills necessary to achieve the purpose of learning.

Abstract:
The article is dedicated to the investigation of blogging platforms as information and communication arenas during wartime. It analyzes the media activities of citizen journalists as a crucial component of the overall information landscape in Ukraine, outlining the peculiarities of their work, the specifics of information dissemination, and the prospects for the development of citizen journalism as a whole. The advantages and disadvantages of citizen journalism are highlighted. Journalism is one of the most dynamic spheres of our existence, and the information space in Ukraine has undergone significant changes since the full-scale war. The development of technological tools always transforms journalism, elevating it to new levels of possibilities. The use of modern blogging platforms, widely accessible not only to professional journalists but also to activists, has contributed to powerful changes in the information sector. Citizen journalism during the Russo-Ukrainian war has taken on entirely different dimensions than before, prompting new reflections on the role of citizen journalists. This expands the scope of the researched issue, from ethical considerations and adherence to journalistic standards to understanding the safety of information activities for both journalists and humanity as a whole. Not every blogger can be called a citizen journalist. The crucial characteristic of citizen journalism, as opposed to mere blogging, is self-awareness, active social action, dedication to an idea, drawing attention to a problem, lobbying for public interests, and serving the function of public control. In the article were examined the activities of citizen journalists, who meet professional standards and exemplify citizen journalism. These include Ihor Lachenkov, Serhiy Sternenko, and Kostyantyn Liberov. Their blogging platforms and social networks were analysed, their content characterised, and posting frequency assessed. The activities of citizen journalists become most in-demand when media representatives cannot capture an event promptly at a particular moment. Citizen journalists find it easier to disseminate information through blogging platforms and social media, especially considering the tremendous trust these platforms enjoy. Survey results illustrate the colossal trust in these platforms. When asked, «What mass media tools did citizens use to get news in 2022?» the responses were as follows: 1. Social networks – 74%, 2. News websites – 42%, 3. Television – 36%, Radio – 11%, Print media – 3%. We observe a trend in the Ukrainian information space where some bloggers position themselves as citizen journalists, even though they previously did not have such a pronounced civic position. This trend became particularly evident at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine when influencers started using their blogs to inform their audience about the events in Ukraine, mobilizing them for active volunteer actions and resisting enemy challenges. Rudyk, Myroslava. JOURNALISM STANDARDS AND BLOGGING: PROFESSIONAL PRINCIPLES OF WORKING WITH INFORMATION IN THE BLOGOSPHERE. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, February 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2022.51.11398.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of journalistic standards in the blogosphere, i.e. the extent to which bloggers adhere to professional principles in their work with information. The popularity of the blogosphere has spread not only to journalists but also to influential people, as well as amateur bloggers, who have created their own platforms to distribute useful or entertaining content. However, not all bloggers work on a professional basis, which creates many opportunities to spread misinformation and manipulate consciousness. Standard approaches to working with information, which have historically been developed in journalism, help to avoid hassles, create professional principles, which ultimately distinguishes journalism from amateur media. In total, researchers distinguish 6 standards of journalism: accuracy, promptness, reliability, completeness of information, the balance of opinions, separation of facts from comments. In the modern world, the approach to defining the concept of “media” has changed significantly. At one time, only professional communicators and traditional media could apply for this status. However, with the development of democratic processes, pluralism of opinion, mass internetization, globalization, and the spread of information beyond the borders of a particular country or locality, alternative sources of information began to appear. Domestic processes of media privatization and oligarchization also contributed to this, when the media became not only repeaters of information, but also a component of the media business and big politics, thus losing the trust of the audience. That is why the popularity of bloggers as independent communicators, opinion leaders, experts in various fields has grown. This was facilitated by the rapid development of information technology, the ability to quickly transmit information of any content, as well as no need for professional training in the field of media. The popularity of the blogosphere is due to the fact that with the new role of a blogger, everyone is given the opportunity to communicate publicly through the use of previously unknown and inaccessible tools. As for professional standards of working with information, bloggers mostly lack the reliability of the information, the balance of opinions and judgments, the separation of facts from comments. And the subjective author’s position is an advantage, giving the blogger an individual way of self-expression.

Abstract:
The article studies social media as a communication platform during the war. The set of mass communication tools to meet the audience’s information needs, coordination of volunteer activities, popularization of the volunteer movement, and involvement of the Internet community in helping the Armed Forces were analyzed. During the Russian-Ukrainian war, social media became the platform where the exchange of information takes place much faster; good analytics could be found quickly, which were pushed out of the information space. Also, social media have taken on the role of a platform where you can coordinate work, unite society around important issues, organize assistance to the army, and report on the needs of the Armed Forces. That is why the presentation of volunteering in social media is considered a relevant research topic because the presentation of volunteering in social networks has generally changed the content of blogging. Stars of show business, politicians, people of art, and educational and scientific fields have done incredible things with social media’s help in organizing military aid. We believe that the volunteer movement through social media has expanded the functions and role of these communication platforms, demonstrating the importance of Internet communication and the effectiveness of using the latest media tools in wartime. The historiography of the study covers the works of Ukrainian and foreign scientists. Among them are L. Horodenko, V. Hvozdiev, B. Potiatynyk, G. Synorub, A. Rohulskyi, D. Rashkoff, and others. The war situation in Ukraine has opened up new requests for blogging activities, exceptional support, and initiation of volunteering. The content of bloggers is now 80 percent filled with the topic of war. The presentation of volunteer work is considered individually and collectively on behalf of foundations and public organizations. We believe that a significant advantage of an active volunteer movement in social networks is fast communication, which contributes to the rapid resolution of crucial tasks.
