Abstract:
Praca jest rozszerzonym zapisem wykładu wygłoszonego podczas II Międzynarodowej Konferencji Związku Lekarzy Polskich w Chicago pt. „Patriotyzm. Dziedzictwo. Medycyna”, zorganizowanej 30.09.2019 r. z okazji 80. rocznicy wybuchu II wojny światowej i 75. rocznicy Powstania Warszawskiego [1]. Autor, syn polskiego małżeństwa lekarskiego, emerytowany profesor Columbia College Chicago, na przykładzie biografii swoich rodziców przedstawił walkę o ocalenie człowieczeństwa i humanistycznych wartości zawodu lekarza w warunkach nazistowskiego i komunistycznego totalitaryzmu. Opisał drogę życiową ojca – oficera wojska polskiego, psychiatry, więźnia sowieckich łagrów, uczestnika bitwy o Monte Cassino, organizatora pomocy psychiatrycznej dla polskich żołnierzy i weteranów wojennych we Włoszech oraz w Anglii i Stanach Zjednoczonych. Podobnie opisał drogę życiową matki – lekarza pediatry w Domu Baudouina w Warszawie, która z narażeniem własnego życia ratowała żydowskie dzieci przed zagładą. Zmuszona do opuszczenia stolicy, wraz z 6‑letnią córką nielegalnie przekroczyła kilka granic, by we Włoszech, w Weronie, połączyć się z mężem. Dzieląc jego żołnierski los, troskę o powiększającą się rodzinę postawiła ponad własną pracę zawodową lekarza. Tekst uzupełniają kopie dokumentów, m.in. odkrytych przez autora w Rosji podczas realizacji filmu „Children in Exile” o losie polskich dzieci zesłanych do sowieckich łagrów.

Abstract:
The main topics of the thesis is a study of the only notated antiphonary conserved in the archive of the monte cassino abbey, in southern italy. The manuscript is an office source. It was probably made in cassinese scriptorium (12th c. ) and used in one of the dependant churches. The thesis contains its codicological, paleographic and liturgical analysis, and also a modal analysis of its antiphon repertory. If shows that the antiphonary belongs to the gregorian repertory, but conserves some influences of the beneventan musical style

Bateman, Terence James. "Elements of the Prayer of St. Benedict as a foundation for an epistemology of faith." Diss., 2005. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/2270.

Full text
Abstract:
A dynamic interpretation of the Prayer of St. Benedict provides a methodology for understanding and explicating Christian faith consistent with enduring elements in the theological tradition and meaningful to the contemporary milieu. Within the overarching structure of the Prayer as a meta-paradigm, are three subsidiary paradigms that describe characteristics of approaches to faith. The structure, content, and intention of the Prayer reveal these to be experiential, critical, and transcendental. Wisdom is asserted as integrating and orienting the discussion, which is a constructed on a Personalist foundation and is a postcritical reflection on faith. Faith is grounded in the affirmations and assumptions of faith, discerned in the enfolding appeals, and the supplications, a basis for an expository discourse on the dimensions of faith.

Abstract:
Abstract January they were running out of food and wounded were lying untended in the streets. On 10 January the final Soviet push began and by the end of the month the German forces in Stalingrad had been divided in two. The Germans did better on the defensive than they had on the offensive, but too many tanks and men were coming at them to hold out for long. The southern half of the force was eliminated piece by piece while the northern group, around Paulus’s headquarters, held out a bit longer. When contacted by Soviet commanders and asked to surrender, Paulus radioed Hitler for permission. Hitler responded by promoting him to field marshal and reminding him that no German field marshal in history had ever been taken prisoner. Friedrich von Paulus was the first. On 2 February he gave up the defense.
