Abstract:
Cílem této přehledové studie je identifikovat, jaké oblasti zkoumání přístupů k vysokoškolskému studiu jsou v českém badatelském prostředí tematizovány v letech 2010 –2020 a jaké výsledky přinášejí pro zkvalitňování výuky na vysokých školách. Zachycená témata se věnují adaptaci studentů prvních ročníků na nároky vysokoškolského studia, problematice organizace vlastního studia a postojů k samostudiu. Další oblastí zájmu jsou preference využívání studijních materiálů, prezentace učiva a forem výuky. Zrcadlením studijních přístupů je i analýza zpracování diplomových prací a koncepce státní zkoušky. Výsledky dílčích studií jsou ukotveny na pozadí zprávy EUROSTUDENT VI a reflexí výuky začínajících vysokoškolských pedagogů. Celkově přinášejí sice dílčí, ale velmi detailní sondy do porozumění tomu, jak současní studenti přistupují ke studiu. Závěr studie přináší přehled témat, jimž by se mohl věnovat příští výzkum v oborových didaktikách.

Abstract:
Formy vlastnictví některých objektů a jejich význam mohou být velmi variabilní, a to jak v různých lidských společnostech, tak i u ostatních primátů, zejména u velkých lidoopů. Sociální organizace lidoopů se liší v mnoha ohledech od většiny lidských společností. Naše studie lidoopů v zajetí by nám mohla pomoci vyřešit, zda mají lidoopi tendenci vlastnit libovolný objekt, nebo ne. Pozorování byla provedena ve dvou zoologických zahradách v České republice - Zoo Dvůr Králové a v Zoo Praha. Všechna popsaná pozorování prokázala skutečnost, že tendence k vlastnění objektů nesouvisejících s potravou existuje nezávisle na sobě u šimpanzů, goril a orangutanů. Velmi podobné údaje pro lidoopy chované v zajetí i pro divoce žijící lidoopy potvrzují, že tento typ chování není náhodný. To bylo opakovaně prokázáno u všech tří pozorovaných druhů lidoopů. Naše studie prokázaly, že existuje možnost interpretovat dlouhodobé individuální vlastnictví objektů během nepotravních aktivit u lidoopů i jako způsob osobního vlastnění těchto objektů.

Abstract:
Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is mostly diagnosed in young women of fertile age, and a significant number of patients become pregnant while they have the disease. The remission of the illness, which is often achieved by intensive anti inflammatory treatment, has been found to be the most important factor of a successful pregnancy. Vedolizumab (VDZ) and ustekinumab (UST) are newer types of monoclonal antibodies with different mechanisms of effect when compared to anti-TNF treatment. VDZ is a monoclonal antibody against the α4ß7 integrin receptor, and UST against interleukin 12/23; both have expanded the spectrum of the biological treatment of IBD in recent years. Aims: To present the results of a multicentre observational study. The primary aim was to assess the safety of vedolizumab and ustekinumab for pregnancy, foetal development and the neonatal outcome. The secondary aim was to measure the drug concentration in maternal and cord blood at the time of delivery. Methods: It was a multicentre, retrospective-prospective observational study. Data on patients’ demographics, clinical characteristics and pregnancy were collected by the treating physician using a predefined questionnaire, data on newborn outcome were obtained from medical documentation. The ELISA method was used to measure the VDZ and UST concentrations. Results: The study took place in 15 IBD clinical centres in the Czech Republic. 79 women with 85 completed pregnancies were included in the study, and they were exposed to VDZ or UST during pregnancy. 36 women were treated with vedolizumab (median age 32 years) and 49 with ustekinumab (median age 30.5 years). In the group with VDZ, live births occurred with 32 women (88.9%), and there were two early spontaneous abortions up to the eighth week of gestation in addition to two instrumentally aborted pregnancies (4, 11.1%). 31 children (93.9%) in the group with VDZ were born at term with a median birth weight of 3,097.5 grams. In the ustekinumab group, 39 women (79.6%) had live births, there were nine early abortions and one instrumentally aborted pregnancy (10, 20.4%). 38 (97.4%) children were born at term with a median birth weight of 3,265 grams. The drug levels of VDZ and UST at birth were measured in 44 neonate-mother pairs (21 VDZ, 23 UST). The median level of VDZ in maternal venous blood was 7.2 mg/l, and in cord blood it was 4.7 mg/l (infant / maternal ratio 0.66). With UST, the median maternal level was 4.7 mg/l, and in neonates it was 7.9 mg/l (infant / maternal ratio 1.65). Conclusion: The results found in a group of women that were being treated for IBD and were exposed to at least one dose of biologic treatment with UST or VDZ during pregnancy are consistent with previously published evidence showing no adverse events, and they confirm the safety profile of new biologics in pregnancy. Due to the still limited number of enrolled patients, further studies are needed on the outcomes of pregnancies with new biologics drugs. Consistent with inclusive fitness theory, evolutionary biologists predict that individuals care more for their biological than their social children and hence that biological children assess the relationships to their parents better than stepchildren. To test this assumption, we use data from the U.S. National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health). Unlike many other studies that have been conducted so far, this survey allows us to analyze the consequences of the dynamic between social and biological parent-child relationships within the same families. We use comparisons of sibling pairs and fixed-effects regression to achieve the within-family comparison. Both the descriptive and multivariate regression results confirm that – even after controlling for other relevant influences – biological parenthood matters with regard to children’s relationship assessments (perceived parental care and closeness of the parent-child relationship) and in both the relationships to resident fathers and mothers. In the discussion, we comment on the possible integration of the evolutionary and sociological perspectives and close with some recommendations for future data collection that could allow researchers to analyze the relative impact of biological and social influences on parent-child relationships on a more fine-grained level. Zusammenfassung Abgeleitet aus der Theorie der Verwandtenselektion sagen Evolutionsbiologen vorher, dass Individuen gegenüber ihren biologischen Kindern mehr Fürsorge zeigen sollten als gegenüber Kindern, zu denen eine soziale Elternschaft besteht. Entsprechend wird erwartet, dass biologische Kinder die Beziehungen zu ihren Eltern besser einschätzen als Stiefkinder. Zur Überprüfung dieser Hypothese ziehen wir die Daten der U.S. National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health) heran. Diese Studie erlaubt es, im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Datenquellen, die Konsequenzen der innerfamilialen Dynamik sozialer und biologischer Eltern-Kind-Beziehungen zu untersuchen. Um diesen Vergleich innerhalb der Familien zu ermöglichen, untersuchen wir Geschwisterdyaden und führen eine fixed-effects-Regression durch. Die Resultate der deskriptiven und der multivariaten Analysen bestätigen, dass der Status biologischer Elternschaft auch dann die Beziehungs-einschätzungen der Jugendlichen (wahrgenommene elterliche Fürsorge und emotionale Nähe) vorhersagt, wenn für andere relevante Einflussfaktoren kontrolliert wird – sowohl in Bezug auf die väterliche als auch auf die mütterliche Beziehung. In der Diskussion kommentieren wir das Ergebnis im Hinblick auf eine mögliche Integration evolutionsbiologischer und soziologischer Forschungsperspektiven und schließen mit einigen Empfehlungen für die zukünftige empirische Datenerhebung ab. Eine Umsetzung dieser Empfehlungen könnte es interessierten Forscherinnen und Forschern in Zukunft ermöglichen, die relative Bedeutung biologischer und sozialer Einflüsse auf die Eltern detaillierter zu untersuchen.

Die Sandschaumkresse Arabidopsis arenosa kommt in zwei Zytotypen vor, dem diploiden und dem tetraploiden. Für Deutschland waren bisher keine diploiden Populationen sicher nachgewiesen und untersucht. In dieser Studie zeigen wir, dass sich das Verbreitungsgebiet diploider A. arenosa auf die deutsche Ostseeküste erstreckt. Auf der Ostseeinsel Rügen fanden wir drei Metapopulationen im hochdynamischen Habitat der Sand- Steilabbrüche, bei dessen Besiedlung durch A. arenosa Biokrusten ("Biological soil crusts") und "Insel-Schollen" eine Rolle zu spielen scheinen. Funde auf ruderal getönten Standorten waren selten, mit nur einer Metapopulation. Wir bestimmten das DNA-Ploidieniveau der Proben durchflusszytometrisch, und es zeigte sich, dass alle gesammelten Proben diploid waren. Von drei Metapopulationen wurden Aussaaten kultiviert und die Pflanzen morphologisch untersucht. Hierbei zeigte sich, dass eine wenig verzweigte, hohe Wuchsform vorherrscht, die eher untypisch für A. arenosa ist.

ZusammenfassungDie acht allgemeinen Grundsätze des integrierten Pflanzenschutzes (IPS) sind als über die Kulturarten allgemeingültiger Leitfaden zur Umsetzung des IPS auf den landwirtschaftlichen Betrieben gedacht. Sie greifen vorbeugende und aktiv eingreifende Methoden zur Verminderung des Schädlingsdrucks an den Kulturpflanzen auf und zeichnen ein derzeitiges Idealbild des Pflanzenschutzes. Eine Betrachtung der Umsetzung in Deutschland hat bisher nicht stattgefunden und soll in dieser Studie exemplarisch für den nordwestdeutschen Raum erfolgen. Zugrunde liegen Daten einer Befragung durch die FH Südwestfalen aus dem Herbst 2019. Es zeigt sich, dass insbesondere Erfolgskontrollen, zielartenspezifischer Pflanzenschutzmitteleinsatz und Strategien der Resistenzvermeidung auf den Betrieben genannt werden. Feldkontrollen vor Pflanzenschutzmaßnahmen sowie der Einsatz nicht-chemischer Methoden gerade in der Beikrautregulierung werden hingegen noch nicht als umfangreich praktiziert angegeben. Gerade im Bereich der vorbeugenden Methoden und dem Einsatz von Schadschwellen fehlen standortspezifische, praxistaugliche Handreichungen. Dieses Fehlen hindert eine weitere Umsetzung der acht allgemeinen Grundsätze des integrierten Pflanzenschutzes. Es sind weiterhin regionalspezifische Forschungen und Tests notwendig, um diese Lücke zu schließen.

ZusammenfassungDer Anbau von Winterraps (Brassica napus L.) wird durch das Auftreten tierischer Schaderreger begleitet, wodurch ein intensiver Insektizid-Einsatz nötig ist. Insbesondere das Anwendungsverbot neonicotinoider Beizen in Winterraps schränkt jedoch die Möglichkeiten der Insektenbekämpfung für landwirtschaftliche Betriebe in der Europäischen Union (EU) ein. Die vorliegende Studie untersucht den Insektizid-Einsatz landwirtschaftlicher Praxisbetriebe, um die Auswirkungen des Anwendungsverbotes neonicotinoider Beizen in Deutschland zu identifizieren. Die feldspezifischen Anbau- und Insektizid-Daten der Referenzbetriebe Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ermöglichen eine detaillierte Analyse des Insektizid-Einsatzes und einen Vergleich der Anwendungsmuster von Insektiziden im Zeitraum der Zulassung neonicotinoider Beizen (2012–2014) und dem darauffolgenden Zeitraum seit dem Anwendungsverbot (2015–2019). Als Maßzahlen für die Insektizid-Intensität werden der Behandlungsindex (BI) und die Anzahl der Überfahrten mit Insektiziden ausgewertet. Die Ergebnisse belegen einen signifikanten Anstieg des Insektizid-Einsatzes in Winterraps im Zeitverlauf 2012–2019. Die mittlere Insektizid-Intensität der Flächenapplikationen ist infolge des Anwendungsverbotes neonicotinoider Beizen um 22,5 % angestiegen. Die Anzahl der Überfahrten mit Insektiziden ist um 1,1 erhöht, dies entspricht einer zusätzlichen Überfahrt mit Insektiziden mit der maximal zugelassenen Aufwandmenge. In der Auflaufphase und den frühen Entwicklungsstadien der Pflanzen (Herbst) hat sich die Insektizid-Intensität vervierfacht. Saattermine und Saatstärken variieren zwischen den Erhebungsjahren, zeitliche Verschiebungen des Saattermins oder eine Anpassung der Saatstärke infolge des Anwendungsverbots neonicotinoider Beizen wurden jedoch nicht identifiziert. 41 % der Referenzbetriebe Mecklenburg-Vorpommern setzten die insektizide Beize Lumiposa 625 FS (Wirkstoff Chlorantraniliprole) im Betrachtungszeitraum 2017–2019 ein. Der Einsatz der Beize ist von 2017–2019 angestiegen und variiert zwischen den Betrieben. Die aktuelle Zulassung der insektiziden Beize Lumiposa 625 FS in Deutschland wird vermutlich zum stärkeren Einsatz führen.

Abstract:
In an earlier study, Gunga et al. (1999) determined body size and body volume distribution by photogrammetry in sauropods from the Upper Jurassic in Tendaguru (Tanzania, East Africa). Specifically, they found a body mass of about 74400 kg for a specimen of <i>Brachiosaurus brancai</i>. By means of dimensional analysis and a theory of biological similarity, moreover, it was possible to estimate the numerical value of the allometric exponent (b = −0.17) for gravitational tolerance (G<sub>max</sub>) of animals living on earth, which changes with the body mass. This theoretical exponent is close to Economos' empirical finding (b = −0.14). Our results show that there remains an unsolved contradiction between the theoretical assumptions for G<sub>max</sub> for the body mass of the largest fully terrestrial animals. <br><br> In einer vorangehenden Studie (Gunga et al. 1999) wurde mit Hilfe der Photogrammetrie die Körpermassen und Körpervolumenverteilung von jurassischen Sauropoden aus Tendaguru (Tansania, Ostafrika) ermittelt. Diese Bestimmungen ergaben für <i>Brachiosaurus brancai</i> eine Körpermasse von von ca. 74400 kg. Weitere Studien aus der vergleichenden Physiologie haben gezeigt, dass die Toleranz bei Schwerkraftbelastung (G<sub>max</sub>) mit der Körpermasse variert. Durch dimensionale Analyse und vergleichende Studien konnte ein allometrischer Exponent für die Toleranz bei Schwerkraftbelastung mit b = −0.17 für terrestrische Organismen bestimmt werden. Dieser theoretische Exponent kommt den empirischen Befunden von Economos (b = −0.14) nahe. Abstract:
A novel biologically active organic ligand L (N’-benzylidenepyrazine-2-carbohydrazonamide) and its three coordination compounds have been synthesized and structurally described. Their physicochemical and biological properties have been thoroughly studied. Cu(II), Zn(II), and Cd(II) complexes have been analyzed by F-AAS spectrometry and elemental analysis. The way of metal–ligand coordination was discussed based on FTIR spectroscopy and UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometry. The thermal behavior of investigated compounds was studied in the temperature range 25–800 °C. All compounds are stable at room temperature. The complexes decompose in several stages. Magnetic studies revealed strong antiferromagnetic interaction. Their cytotoxic activity against A549 lung cancer cells have been studied with promising results. We have also investigated the biological effect of coating studied complexes with silver nanoparticles. The morphology of the surface was studied using SEM imaging.

Fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) processes are very important for elucidating biochemical mechanismsin vitro, and QDs constitute an excellent substrate for this purpose. In this work, new oligonucleotide-functionalised CdTe-based QDs were prepared, characterised and biologically tested. These QDs demonstrated interesting optical properties as well as remarkablein vitrobehaviour and potential for a range of biological applications.

In recent years, our knowledge of the biological effects of cyclodextrins has grown significantly. Cellular actions of cyclodextrins originate in their ability to form complexes with lipophilic biomolecules. Cyclodextrins can target different types of molecules according to their size, for instance, alpha-cyclodextrins form complexes with phospholipids, while beta-cyclodextrins can bind cholesterol or prostaglandin E2. Due to their interactions with the main membrane constituents, cyclodextrins can affect the barrier function of biological barriers or influence the function of membrane proteins. Nevertheless, cyclodextrins can enter the cells by endocytosis and affect the intracellular cholesterol storage. Based on these findings, 2-hydroxypropyl-beta cyclodextrin (HPBCD) received the orphan designation for the treatment of Niemann–Pick disease type C. The endocytosis of cyclodextrins works in different cell types and can be applied in the delivery of drugs into the cells. The tissue distribution and pharmacokinetics of cyclodextrins could be further characterized by imaging techniques. Radiolabeled HPBCD and randomly methylated beta-cyclodextrin (RAMEB) were recently used to study their in vivo behavior by positron emission tomography. Interestingly, RAMEB accumulation was detected in prostaglandin E2 (PGE2)-positive tumors. These findings can promote further research and the application of cyclodextrins in inflammation and tumor diagnosis or targeting. The presentation aims to give an overview of the main biological effects of cyclodextrins and the recent results of this research field.

Comparison has been made between the activity of the pineal hormone melatonin, and several analogues and metabolites in inhibiting sexual development in a protein-restricted prepubertal rat model. Eleven melatonin analogues or metabolites were tested with the aim of evaluating the model as a test of the hypothesis that melatonin acts as a prohormone and that the ring schism metabolites (kynurenamines) mediate many of the effects attributable to melatonin. Although the hypothesis could not be confirmed, modification of the melatonin structure by lengthening the acylamide side chain or by replacing the 5 methoxy function with fluorine resulted in loss of biological potency. Modification of the melatonin structure to block the two known points of metabolism resulted in no significant alteration in biological activity. Thus 6-chloromelatonin (blocking 6-hydroxylation) and 2,3-dihydromelatonin (blocking oxidative cleavage of the C2-C3 bond) and 6-chloro-2,3-dihydromelatonin remained biologically active. The metabolic products of brain indolearnine-2,3-dioxygenase, N-acetyl-N2-formyl-5-methoxy kynurenamine (aFoMK) and N-acetyl-5-methoxy kynurenamine (aMK), paradoxically were also biologically active.

Successful plant defence responses to pathogen challenges are based on fast and specific pathogen recognition and plant reaction mechanisms. Elicitins, proteinaceous elicitors secreted by the Phytophthora and Pythium species, were first described in Phytophthora culture filtrates as proteins able to induce a hypersensitive response (HR) and resistance in tobacco at low concentrations. Later, they were classified as microbial-associated molecular patterns (MAMPs) able to induce defences in a variety of plant species. In this review, we present a comprehensive summary of the actual knowledge on the representative elicitins and their structure, perception and activation of plant signalling pathways. The current research of elicitins has been focused on a detailed understanding of the molecular mechanisms of the elicitin recognition by plant cells. Moreover, the possibility of elicitin involvement in the establishment and enhancement of plant host resistance to a broad spectrum of pathogens has been intensively studied.

Cavitation bubbles form in soft biological systems when subjected to a negative pressure above a critical threshold, and dynamically change their size and shape in a violent manner. The critical threshold and dynamic response of these bubbles are known to be sensitive to the mechanical characteristics of highly compliant biological systems. Several recent studies have demonstrated different biological implications of cavitation events in biological systems, from therapeutic drug delivery and microsurgery to blunt injury mechanisms. Due to the rapidly increasing relevance of cavitation in biological and biomedical communities, it is necessary to review the current state-of-the-art theoretical framework, experimental techniques, and research trends with an emphasis on cavitation behavior in biologically relevant systems (e.g., tissue simulant and organs). In this review, we first introduce several theoretical models that predict bubble response in different types of biological systems and discuss the use of each model with physical interpretations. Then, we review the experimental techniques that allow the characterization of cavitation in biologically relevant systems with in-depth discussions of their unique advantages and disadvantages. Finally, we highlight key biological studies and findings, through the direct use of live cells or organs, for each experimental approach.

Objectives: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is comprised of several biologically active factors that can stimulate musculoskeletal healing processes. The supernatant of PRP, known as PPP, is biologically active and may also stimulate tissue regeneration. In some instances, such as muscle injury, PPP may be preferred to PRP in order to stimulate muscle regrowth in a basic science study that was previously performed. Platelet poor plasma (PPP) is has several biologically active molecular factors that may be utilized to stimulate tissue healing. While platelet rich plasma has been previously studied and characterized, few studies have sought to quantify the biological constituents of PPP. The purpose of this study was to quantitate and assess growth factors, other chemokines, and cytokines in PPP derived from human peripheral blood that has been centrifuged. Study Design: Non-randomized, prospective cohort study; Level of evidence: 2. Methods: Peripheral blood was drawn to create PPP at three time points from sixteen healthy volunteers. Hematology analysis was conducted on the PPP to quantify the platelet fold-difference from baseline measurements. The PPP samples were immediately assayed and analyzed on the MagPix® following processing completion. Specific immunoassay kits used were human cytokine/chemokine magnetic bead panel, TGF-β magnetic bead panel, MMP magnetic bead panel 1, and MMP magnetic bead panel 2. Results: Among the biological factors tested, there was a significant positive association, defined by two factors being associated in that when one factor increases the other also increases, between BMI and the biological composition of PPP with PDGF AA, PDGF AB, MMP-1, MMP-9, MMP-13, and MMP-12 (p<0.05). Similarly, there was a significant positive association (p<0.05), between age and biological composition of PPP for MMP-9 and MMP-7. Conclusion: PPP has several biological factors, both anabolic and catabolic, that can potentially be utilized in musculoskeletal medicine to treat various conditions, such as muscle injury. PPP is biologically active and this study characterizes its anabolic and catabolic profile. These factors are influenced by certain demographic factors such as age and body mass index (BMI). Higher BMI significantly correlated to higher levels of PDGF AA, PDGF AB, MMP-1, MMP-9, MMP-13, and MMP-12 in PPP. This supernatant of the better-studied PRP is biological active and warrants further investigation for its therapeutic potential. Platelets could change the biological composition of plasma utilized for regenerative medicine applications, but this study demonstrates that the plasma alone has biological properties that may provide benefit in treating certain musculoskeletal conditions. This study will help clinicians better understand the biological nature of PPP and may aide in the more targeted use of PPP therapeutically.

The aim of this paper is to present an up-to-date information about therapeutical options in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps. First choice therapy is a long term regular application of intranasal steroids in combination with salinic solution douches. If this treatment is not eff ective enough, then the pulses of systemic steroids are indicated. If the sufficient control of the disease is not achieved, then surgery is a therapeutic choice; it means functional endoscopic sinus surgery in the extent corresponding to the extension of the sinus disease. However, there remains a certain group of patients in whom the results with this treatment are not optimal. The type 2 immunopathological response affects relevantly the course of the disease. Nowadays, the research is done in this field. Specific agents, which are able to block circulating inflammatory mediators or bind receptors for these mediators are developed and studied. This paper considers the bioethics of estranged biological kin, who are biologically related people not in contact with one another (due to adoption, abandonment, or other long‐term estrangement). Specifically, I am interested in what is owed to estranged biological kin in the event of medical need. A survey of current bioethics demonstrates that most analyses are not prepared to reckon with the complications of having or being estranged biological kin. For example, adoptees might wonder if a lack of contact with biological kin could someday affect their medical care (or affect the medical care of their biological relatives).Estranged biological kin, such as adoptees, present us with a chance to think about human connection. After sketching several organ‐donation and adoption tropes, I argue that a feminist analysis of vulnerability and dependency is helpful for understanding the confusing ties of estranged biological kin. I conclude by proposing a medical registry that would put adoptees and others in touch with their estranged biological kin on a medically as‐needed basis.

G-quadruplexes are noncanonical nucleic acid structures formed from stacked guanine tetrads. They are frequently used as building blocks and functional elements in fields such as synthetic biology and also thought to play widespread biological roles. G-quadruplexes are often studied as monomers, but can also form a variety of higher-order structures. This increases the structural and functional diversity of G-quadruplexes, and recent evidence suggests that it could also be biologically important. In this review, we describe the types of multimeric topologies adopted by G-quadruplexes and highlight what is known about their sequence requirements. We also summarize the limited information available about potential biological roles of multimeric G-quadruplexes and suggest new approaches that could facilitate future studies of these structures.

Abstract Background Switching between biological therapies is frequently observed in the routine management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Yet, it is unknown whether sequential use of biologicals affects safety such as serious infections and malignancies. We aimed to compare the occurrence of serious infections and malignancies in regards to the number and classes of biologicals to which patients were exposed. Methods This retrospective cohort study included all IBD patients exposed to commercially available biologicals from 1999 to 2019 in a tertiary referral centre. Follow-up started at initiation of first biological. Exclusion criteria included: patients &lt;18 years, episodic administration of biologicals or administration for another indication than IBD and loss to follow-up &lt;2 years after initiation of first biological. Via review of full electronic medical records, we studied the development of serious infections (defined as any infection leading to hospitalisation or treatment change) and malignancies. Poisson and Cox regression models were used. Results In total 1374 patients were included (Figure 1). During a median (IQR) follow-up of 8 (4–13) years, 373 serious infections and 127 malignancies were reported in 245 (19%) and 92 (7%) patients, leading to an incidence rate of 2.2 and 0.8 per 100.000 patients per year, respectively. The number of serious infections was dependent on prior exposure to immunomodulators (IM, p = 0.001), the number of biologicals (p = 0.042) and the number of biological classes to which the patient was exposed (p = 0.004, overall test Poisson model p = 0.0001). The risk of serious infections increased when a patient was exposed to three or more different biologicals or two or more different classes of biologicals. The number of malignancies was also affected by the number of biologicals (p = 0.028) to which the patient was exposed, with a higher risk of developing a malignancy with exposure to an increasing number of biologicals (Figure 2 and 3). Cox regression for the time to develop a first or second malignancy was independent of exposure to IM, number of biologicals as well as number of different biological classes to which the patient was exposed. Median (IQR) time to develop a first or second malignancy after the start of the first biological was 6 (3–9) and 6 (4–12) years. Conclusion In this large single-centre cohort study spanning 20 years, the overall risk of serious infections and malignancies in patients exposed to biologicals remains low, yet the risk increased with more and sequential use of biologicals so close vigilance is needed.

However, more recently, there is a growing interest in integrating multi-omics datasets for the prediction of interactomes that provide a global view of biological systems with higher descriptive capability, as compared to single omics. In this review, we have discussed various computational approaches implemented to infer and analyze two of the most important and well studied interactomes: protein–protein interaction networks and gene co-expression networks. We have explicitly focused on recent methods and pipelines implemented to infer and extract biologically important information from these interactomes, starting from utilizing single-omics data and then progressing towards multi-omics data. Accordingly, recent examples and case studies are also briefly discussed. Overall, this review will provide a proper understanding of the latest developments in protein and gene network modelling and will also help in extracting practical knowledge from them.

Trotz ihrer seit längerem in der Forschung beschriebenen Vorteile sind die tatsächlichen Adoptionsraten dieser Innovationen in der landwirtschaftlichen Praxis in Deutschland eher gering. Um ihre weitere Verbreitung zu fördern, kommt der bislang in der Forschung kaum untersuchten Frage nach den Adoptionsfaktoren nachhaltiger Prozessinnovationen eine besondere Bedeutung zu. Das Ziel der vorliegenden Studie ist es, die Zugehörigkeit landwirtschaftlicher Entscheider*innen zu den verschiedenen Adoptionsstufen ‚Absichtslosigkeit‘, ‚Absichtsbildung‘, ‚Vorbereitung‘ und ‚Handlung‘ nachhaltiger Prozessinnovationen in der Landwirtschaft, am Beispiel von Agroforstsystemen, zu bestimmen und den Einfluss verschiedener Landwirt*innen- und Betriebscharakteristika als Adoptionsfaktoren auf die Stufenzugehörigkeit der Landwirt*innen darzustellen. Auf Basis quantitativer Befragungsdaten von 209 deutschen Landwirt*innen wird das transtheoretische Modell der Verhaltensänderung auf die Adoption von Innovationen mittels deskriptiver Statistiken, konfirmatorischer Faktorenanalyse und ordinal logistischer Regressionsanalyse angewendet. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass bei den aktuell primär vorherrschenden niedrigen Adoptionsstufen die Einstellung der Landwirt*innen zur Implementierung von Agroforstsystemen auf dem eigenen Betrieb als Adoptionsfaktor die Adoption am stärksten positiv beeinflusst. Während auch bestehende Erfahrungen mit erneuerbaren Energien einen positiven Einfluss auf die Adoption haben, trifft das Gegenteil auf vorherige Erfahrungen mit Kurzumtriebsplantagen (KUP) und Agroforstsystemen (AFS) zu. Abstract:
The study of natural sources such as plants, microorganisms and marine organisms has developed interest among the scientific community in recent years for their extensive and diverse chemical composition and consequent biological potential. The search for antitumor compounds is among the lead causes that justify phytochemical studies. Although some natural products have served as FDA approved chemotherapeutic agents, there is still a demand for the search of compounds with those characteristics. The Plectranthus genus has long been used in traditional medicine, and scientific studies have already proven its undeniable value as a source of bioactive compounds. Diterpenes are the most prominent biologically active group of secondary metabolites present in this genus. In particular, abietane diterpenes have long been studied for their biological activities, namely their anti-tumoral potential. In this review, abietane diterpenes isolated from Plectranthus genus with antiproliferative, antitumoral or cytotoxic potential are reported. In addition, a correlation between this subclass of diterpenes with their mechanisms of cell death has been discussed.

Substituted hydroxamic acid is one of the most extensively studied pharmacophores because of their ability to chelate biologically important metal ions to modulate various enzymes, such as HDACs, urease, metallopeptidase, and carbonic anhydrase. Syntheses and biological studies of various classes of hydroxamic acid derivatives have been reported in numerous research articles in recent years but this is the first review article dedicated to their synthetic methods and their application for the synthesis of these novel molecules. In this review article, commercially available reagents and preparation of hydroxylamine donating reagents have also been described.

Abstract:
Laboratory denitrification studies were conducted in a sand column using sucrose as a biodegradable carbon source. The denitrification capacity of the system was followed for more than one year. Column efficiency was dependent on the flow rate and on the carbon to nitrogen ratio in the treated water. After a few months of operation, visible accumulation of gas in the active zone was accompanied by a marked decrease in column permeability. Vacuum treatment restored permeability to its original level; only partial recovery was achieved by simply allowing the slow natural release of gas. He suggest that under the conditions tested, clogging resulted from the accumulation of microbiologically produced gas.
