Building model inspection (BIM) began with the MvdXML verifier (Fahad et al., 2018; Moult & Krijnen, 2020; Weise et al., 2015). However, the latter had several limitations such as the absence of geometric analysis and a reasoning mechanism. To overcome these, CSTB work published by (Bus, Fahad, et al., 2018) proposes an approach based on semantic web technologies for verifying BIM models against fire rules. This approach takes into account only single-source data (that of the building) and deals only with the building's internal construction rules.Furthermore, the work carried out by CSTB (Bouzidi et al., 2012; Emani, 2016) focuses on rules that verify a condition (property). A property can be a relationship between two elements, or a characteristic of an element. For example, the manhole must be placed at the limit of the private domain, and the height of the building must not exceed 55m. A complex rule is one that verifies several properties at the same time. Analysis of urban rules shows that they are textual, ambiguous, complex, multi-scale and require a large amount of isolated heterogeneous data.My work focuses on extending this verification from the building scale to the urban scale, in a field of application concerning the water supply system. In this context, my thesis aims to specify an ontology integrating the knowledge of business experts (translation of rules into logical language) and heterogeneous data (BIM and GIS). This ontology will be used to verify rules on several verification levels (department, city, district and building). For each verification level, we design a level of abstraction containing the necessary knowledge to be verified. This is done by adapting Hobbs' notion of indistinguishability to the ontology
Zhu, Wenhua. "3D modeling of city building and lifecycle simulation." Thesis, Compiègne, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017COMP2344/document.
With the construction and development of the smart city, how to construct the realistic 3D model of the large-scale city buildings quickly and efficiently which becomes the research hotspot. In this thesis, a novel 3D modeling approach is proposed to quickly and efficiently build 3D model of large-scale city buildings based on shape grammar and facade rule modeling. Building Information Model (BIM) is an important technical means to enhance the construction industry, for the city building design and construction, how to better research and application of BIM technology which is the key, in this thesis City Building Integrated Information Model (CBIIM) is specified to manage the information of building lifecycle effectively and realize the information sharing and exchanging. This thesis has studied the acquisition and processing of the modeling data. Google Earth and ArcGIS software are mainly used to acquire and process image-maps data and elevation-maps data of the target area, these two kinds of data match and overlay, which can generate 3D city terrain data with geographic location information. Then OpenStreetMap is used to acquire road data of the target area, and it can be optimal processed to the necessary road network by JOSM software. 3D laser scanning technology is used to collect building surface texture images and create the point clouds model of the target architecture modeling so as to get the modeling dimensions by measurement. On this basis, this thesis mainly has studied the principle and the process of CGA rule to create building models, and studied the method that can separate architectural elements using image segmentation to generate CGA rule automatically and to create building model furtherly. Thus 3D building models have been established in the CityEngine software using CGA rules and facade modeling technology. This thesis has specified the City Building Integrated Information Model (CBIIM) based on BIM. The city building information are classified and integrated, and the building and component was described with the IFC standard, in order to manage the informations of building lifecycle effectively. This thesis studies the integrated information association model technology, that it can realize standardized component design with associated features and intelligent building design with associated parameters in knowledge rules combined with IFC. The construction simulation technology is studied. The knowledge rules in the integrated information model provide a reliable reference for the construction simulation, and the simulation scene is created through the invoking the integrated information model, thus the construction simulation process is completed by the program. Taking Baoshan Campus of Shanghai University as an example, the modeling process of the whole scene is illustrated, and the modeling steps of all kinds of 3D objects are described in detail to solve the specific problems in the actual modeling process. Thus the feasibility and validity of the procedural intelligent modeling approach are verified. Taking the dormitory of Shanghai University as an example, a simulation scene and the simulation model were created by the integrated informations, combined with the relevant construction information the construction simulation was completed by the program. Thus the feasibility and validity of the CBIIM are verified

The report has a focus on Building Information Models (BIM), an IT-technical tool- and workmethod that have emerged increasingly in the construction industry in recent years. How this IT tool is used in medium-sized building construction companies is presented in this report. The purpose of the report is to promote positive development towards more efficient and resource-efficient work processes in the construction industry by providing knowledge on how the use of BIM exists among these companies, why it is the way it is, if BIM is needed and what can change the current status in any direction. The work-method has consisted of literature studies and interview surveys. The work began with studies of reports and texts related to BIM and interviews with representatives of leading construction industry companies and a couple of industry organizations with focus on BIM. This was followed by continued literary studies focused on change and change management, survey and interview techniques. This work led to various basic theories and explanatory models as the basis for and the design of the interview questions asked at the main interviews. The main interviews was conducted with eleven medium-sized building construction companies and gave a result that showed that companies generally looked at BIM as something positive with advantages such as easier communication and as a means to reduce errors in production. The result also brought some light to the fact that there existed challenges like software compatibility and dependency between the parties involved in the project, which means that for the technology to be able to provide wanted benefits all parties involved have to use the workmethod. The reasons for the low usage among medium sized construction contractors was several, the most common was the lack of demands of the clients. The reasons were also the absence of need, costly investments, competing objectives, compatibility issues with software and lack of knowledge of BIM.In order to promote a greater usage of BIM it is proposed that the technical obstacles are eliminated through standardization and development of the processing method and software, it is also proposed that the competing objectives are eliminated by spreading and increasing knowledge of BIM in the industry, both amongst entrepreneurs, -to promote good staff training so that the staff will want to work with the technology, and amongst construction clients, -so that they start asking for BIM and thereby provide the technology with a competitive edge.

Throughout this work, the main objective is to validate the relevance of construction and use of geometric or parametric 3D models BIM or hBlM-oriented for numerical analyzes. These include structural studies in the case of historic buildings, as well as planning for restoration work, energy renovation and rehabilitation. Complementary data mining and use of point clouds for the detection, segmentation and extraction of geometric features have also been integrated into the work and proposed methodology. The process of data processing, geometric or parametric modeling and their exploitation, proposed in this work, contributes to improve and understand better the constraints and stakes of the different configurations and conditions related to the case studies and the specific constraints specific to the types of constructions. The contributions proposed for the different geometric and parametric modeling methods from point clouds are addressed by the construction of geometric models BIM or hBlM-oriented. Similarly, the process of surface detection, extraction of data and elements from point clouds are presented. The application of these modeling methods is systematically illustrated by different case studies, all of whose relative work has been carried out within the framework of this thesis. The goal is therefore to demonstrate the interest and relevance of these numerical methods according to the context, needs and studies envisaged, for example with the spire of the Senlis cathedral (Oise) and the Hermitage site (Oise). Numerical analyzes with finite element method are used to validate the relevance of these approaches

The construction show a lack of efficiency to compare to other industries. This is explained by the insufficiency to computerize the design of building. In answer, the world of architecture set up a new process called BIM (Building Information Modeling). This process is based on a3D virtual mock up containing every information needed for the construction. During the implementation of this process, difficulties of interaction has been noted by the BIM users.BIM models are hard to observe and manage, explained by the fact that these models contain a large amount of information. Moreover, the collaborative idea of the BIM is not considered in the actual method. BIM process proposes the same scheme for all the construction profile. This thesis proposes an adapted methodology of interaction for the inspection of architectural projects, using artificial intelligence tools or more particularly virtual reality technologies. The purpose is to offer an adapted environment, considering the profile of each BIM user, while keeping the actual design method. Firstly, this document describes the creation of virtual reality rooms dedicated to the construction. Secondly, it deals with the development of algorithms allowing the classification of components from BIM model, an adaptive system of visualization and a process to handle the model. These development are based on the consideration of the profile of the user, the trade of the user

In designing, the architect gives space not only a form, but also other aspects of topology, accessibility and comfort. This production is based on a set of qualitative spatial requirements (ESQL) described in the architectural programming phase. Current BIM practices are based on formats transforming all building information into essentially quantitative data, which does not allow taking into account these ESQL. In this research, we propose a new design approach that takes into account and verifies the ESQL using one of the current BIM tools (Revit). This approach is based on a new space model including and structuring the ESQL. This model is based on an identification work for the most frequently used ESQL to qualify spaces in the programming phase. Our approach is evaluated through an experimental validation process

The energy and digital transitions of the construction sector and built environment appear as two major sociotechnical transitions of our century. This thesis aims to study their mutual impacts and the consequences of their meeting on the overall performance of the renovated building stock. The MACARON model (Cost-Benefit Analysis Model of Digital-Oriented Renovation) presented in this work considers four spatial scales assimilated to four potential scales of numergetic decision / action: i) the user [NANO]; ii) the homogeneous building / estate as technical object [MICRO]; iii) the managerial cell of the organization [MESO]; iv) the heterogeneous urban estate as technical object [MACRO] and four cross-cutting disciplines i) energy performance; ii) digital deployment; (iii) financial capacity; iv) human resources. In current progress, only the MICRO and MESO scales are subject to development and analysis. Using system dynamics, our contribution includes identifying the interactions between energy performance and digital deployment. This work provides the design and construction modeling stages of our complex system and the exploitation of the model. That includes the construction of contrasting alternatives of the managing organization numergetic strategy and the evaluation of their respective performance in improving the estate

Today's society is at the forefront of a paradigm shift in digitization where cost-efficiency, productivity and digitalization interact. The Swedish construction sector has proven to have a low degree of development in digitization. Ottosson has shown that over 80% of all complications in construction projects are due to lack of communication. Svensk byggtjänst declares increasing costs for construction production and management by about SEK 60 billion each year. Basically, it is about how actors in the sector communicate among themselves, but also how information is handled digitally. A known concept in today's construction industry concerning information management and communication is BIM, "Building information model / modeling". The concept is about creating and utilizing precise digital models from construction projects. The aim is to obtain information from the digital model that is significant for the realization of the construction work and which then fulfills the BIM concept. The concept concerns information management, i.e. communication between different actors. ÅF-Infrastructure AB section "Byggekonomi – Rådgivning tidiga skeden" commissioned the authors of this master thesis to examine a specific method for cost assessments using digital models as a basis. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the suggestion for approaches to cost assessments using digital models in order to develop the company's internal cost assessment tools. With this procedure, the right basis at the right stage within the early stage can contribute to increasing the quality of the adoption of financial decisions. The degree project is based on a qualitative method in the form of literature studies, interviews, participation in subject-specific seminars, observations of meetings and a quantitative method performed in order to simulate multi-dwelling housing projects. The methods have investigated the possibility of the information management systems Level Of Development and CoClass being available with a basis for cost assessment of the three stages in the early stages: the idea- feasibility study- and the program action stage. The study has shown two greater challenges. There is development potential both with regard to the classification system CoClass and the cost assessment tool Calc Frame. Regarding CoClass, it should above all be the classification system that informs the user about what ought to be contained under each level of information. It should not be up to the business community to interpret what information includes in each level in the system, this necessitate should be refined and clarified within the classification system itself. From a cost assessment point of view, it has not been possible to produce generic building complexes in Calc Frame. But since the tool is capable of handling several different construction works, these can thus be combined into specific and unique building works. Theoretically, the development of generic building complexes would be possible if the program were further developed. If this is considered desirable, then our assessment is that it is possible to further develop and apply the methodology on building complexes (with the same principle as the program is designed) to create generic complexes. Our study has shown that an economic evaluation in the early stages of the building process can be done with BIM. Whether ÅF-Infrastructure AB's updating of its internal cost assessment tool is compatible with digital models, the authors consider that the study has shown that the method used to increase the quality of cost assessments is compatible with the new classification system CoClass. The recommendation is therefore to update and develop cost assessment tools against the classification system CoClass.
Cristia, Emilien. "Projet architectural et maquette numérique BIM : enquête ethnographique au sein d'un grand projet de construction." Thesis, Paris, HESAM, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020HESAC037.
The BIM approach has become a necessity for the building sector involving the realization of a new technical object : the digital model. The research is focused on the new manufacturing of this object and its praticals effects on the way to build, the reconfiguration of coordination practices and collective design between construction professionals. We also attempted to draw a new definition of theoretical boundaries of the architectural project. Our work is based on an ethnographic investigation carried out within a Major School Project recognized for its strong involvement in the BIM process. The investigation takes place on the heart of the construction phase of this project, during the execution summary meetings, between actors and objects. The analysis of this material mainly composed by observations and interviews carried out with the project stakeholders allows us to understand the different practical reorganizations linked to the collective production of this new digital model. This work also allows us to outline the perspectives of new digital project practices and to prefigure a theoretical evolution of the limits of the traditional architectural project

To date, computer vision systems are limited to extract digital data of what the cameras "see". However, the meaning of what they observe could be greatly enhanced by environment and human-skills knowledge. In this work, we propose a new approach to cross-fertilize computer vision with contextual information, based on semantic modelization defined by an expert. This approach extracts the knowledge from images and uses it to perform real-time reasoning according to the contextual information, events of interest and logic rules. The reasoning with image knowledge allows to overcome some problems of computer vision such as occlusion and missed detections and to offer services such as people guidance and people counting. The proposed approach is the first step to develop an "all-seeing" smart building that can automatically react according to its evolving information, i.e., a context-aware smart building. The proposed framework, named WiseNET, is an artificial intelligence (AI) that is in charge of taking decisions in a smart building (which can be extended to a group of buildings or even a smart city). This AI enables the communication between the building itself and its users to be achieved by using a language understandable by humans
