Abstract:
Purpose Previous commonly used author co-citation analysis (ACA) methods have limited the ability to deal with accidental co-citation in constructing a raw co-citation matrix. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to propose a new method, called author tri-citation analysis (ATA), to better map knowledge domains and depict scientific intellectual structures. Design/methodology/approach Different from the previous method of using ACA that captures author co-citation relationships, the ATA method seeks tri-citation relationships among authors. Compared with ACA, ATA can ignore some accidental co-citation relationships between authors and can improve the accuracy of mapping knowledge domains. Findings Although ATA does not mine more sub-fields than ACA does, the results of the empirical studies show that ATA, the newly proposed method, performs better in knowledge domain maps based on publications in the field of computer science. Research limitations/implications The definition of ATA in this article is simple and still insufficiently informative. Many other pieces of information can be involved; for example, all authors’ information, authors’ sequence in the author list, reference published time and similar. These can be enhanced in future studies. Practical implications This research will enrich the methods of mapping knowledge domains due to its new perspective. Social implications Knowledge domain mapping is important to understand a discipline, and this research provides more potential methods for this, which benefits the performance of the maps. Originality/value ATA can provide a methodological awareness for mapping knowledge domains. This value lies in not only a tri-citation perspective, but also author bibliographic tripling and author tri-operation perspectives (“tri-” perspectives).

Abstract:
The classification of living things depends upon the literature. Access to this literature is essential to taxonomic research and to our understanding of biodiversity. There have been tremendous efforts to digitise the world’s biodiversity literature; the Biodiveristy Heritage Library (BHL) alone has uploaded over 54 million pages, all of which is freely accessible online. Our scientific literature is far more accessible than it has ever been, but that does not mean it is easily discoverable. Much of the taxonomic literature online remains outside the linked network of scholarly research. But that is rapidly changing. Taxonomic aggregators are an invaluable source of authoritative information on species names and their hierarchical classification. It is critical that this information includes citations for taxonomic descriptions, that these citations link to the published literature online and that (wherever possible) the citations include DOIs (Digital Object Identifiers). The DOI is an essential part of a publication’s bibliographic metadata and should be included (as a live link) in any reference to that content. However, the definitive (DOI’d) versions of recent publications are frequently behind paywalls. And, while much of the historic literature available online is open access, commercial publishers are uploading out-of-copyright publications onto their own websites, assigning DOIs to “their” definitive versions (the versions that must be cited in other publications, as per DOI requirements) and then locking the defintiive versions behind paywalls. This is perfectly within their rights. DOIs may be assigned to legacy publications retrospectively, providing that: a) the party assigning them owns the rights for the content, or has permission from the rights holder to assign a DOI, and b) the publication does not already have a DOI. If there are no rights attached to a piece of content, anyone can assign a DOI to it. This means that citation traffic from the bibliographies of current publications is increasingly directed towards commercial publishers’ websites, rather than towards open access versions, such as those freely available on the Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL). However, taxonomic aggregators are not bound by the same obligations as publishers and may therefore choose to link to any online version of a publication (although the DOI should still be included in the citation). Many taxonomic aggregators link to the literature available on BHL. The taxonomic name profiles in EOL (Encyclopedia of Life), GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility) and ALA (Atlas of Living Australia) each contain a BHL bibliography: a list of links to the pages in BHL that contain an identified mention of that taxon name. However, the lists of returned results can be long, and they may or may not include the citations for accepted names, synonyms and taxon concepts. Some biodiversity aggregators feature these key citations on the names pages (or tabs) of taxon profiles. However, where these do exist, they are usually plain text rather than links. BHL is now registering DOIs for the content it hosts and is creating landing pages for articles, containing the full bibliographic metadata, including (where applicable) the DOI. Articles are now discoverable by article title, keywords within titles (scientific names, locations, traits, etc.), author names and DOIs, and can be easily linked to (via their landing pages) by other parties. This paper will examine the issues, benefits and complexities associated with linking to definitive versions, the difference between easy and open access, the ethics of putting out-of-copyright content behind paywalls, and the future of creating order amongst the massively expanding resource of literature online.

Abstract:
The renewal of interest in Albert Magnus’ works which has taken place in the last one hundred years or so has in fact produced a multilingual body of studies whose size and diversity are making it more and more difficult for the scholar to identify and to know precisely and with certainty what has been written about this very important philosopher. The partial bibliographies which have been published throughout the 20th century were of some use, but none can compare, in terms of completeness, to the new, selectively annotated bibliography composed by I. M. Resnick and K. F. Kitchell. After briefly analyzing this impressive piece of scholarship and identifying some of the mistakes it inevitably contains, the present paper provides a list of approximately 350 items which are missing from Resnick and Kitchell’s bibliography and which for the most part were written before 2001.

Abstract:
The written Work of Horacio Quiroga (1878-1937) includes novels, poetry, dramaturgy, journalistic texts, and, fundamentally, stories, and was published first and foremost in the various illustrated magazines of the early twentieth century where the Uruguayan author collaborated. Only a part was collected in books by Quiroga himself. Since 1955 an accurate list of all his collaborations has been made and, also, a large part of his work has been published in various anthologies and in different complete works projects. Our research adds to this repertoire some bibliographic findings: the existence of two short stories, not belonging to any bibliographic list or to any compilation of their narrative writings; “Una carta de amor” and “La cacería”; the appearance of his first journalistic film “note”, “El Teatro Mudo: elogio del cinematógrafo”, which is not part of any list or of the compilations of Quiroga’s cinematographic texts; and, finally, the existence of the editio princeps of Cuentos de la Selva, one of his best known books. The three texts found, which are from 1917, as well as the illustrated editio princeps of Cuentos de la Selva from 1918 must be included in Horacio Quiroga’s bibliographic repertoire and must form part of the new editions of his complete work.

Abstract:
This paper proposes a method of comparative analysis of scientific trajectories based on bibliographic profiles. The bibliographic profile (“meshprint”) is a list of MeSH terms (key terms used to index articles in the PubMed), indicating the relative frequency of occurrence of each term in the scientist's articles. Comparison of personalized bibliographic profiles can be represented in the form of a semantic network, where the nodes are the names of scientists, and the relationships are proportional to the calculated measures of similarity of bibliographic profiles. The proposed method was used to analyze the semantic network of scientists united by the academic school of the academician A.I. Archakov. The results of the work allowed us to show the relationship between the scientific trajectories of one scientific school and to correlate the results with world trends.

Abstract:
This diploma thesis deals with the topic of setting the poems of Josef Václav Sládek to music. The main source of the analyzed data is a bibliographic list of compositions, which was compiled after my own research in the databases and catalogues of the National Library of Czech Republic, the Municipal Library in Prague and Czech Museum of Music, as well as in specialised literature. The first chapter briefly summarizes the general principles of setting poetry to music and then it focuses on particular aspects of Sládek's poetics, which encourage composers to set his poems to music. The first chapter also outlines Sládek's poetics in different poetry collections. The second chapter gives a detailed analysis of the compiled bibliographic list of compositions in terms of the frequency in which particular poems have been set to music, the number of works composed by different authors, vocal and instrumental cast, and also time contexts. The third, and the most comprehensive chapter, is divided in accordance with the proposed semantically significant thematic areas of Sládek's poetic work - love poetry, poetry for children, peasantism and folk echo poetry and militantpatriotism. In the subchapters, Sládek's work is at first viewed through a literary prism, then the author attempts a musical analysis and...

Abstract:
Learning is deeply rooted in the social environment of pupils and can flourish in a well-designed optimal learning environment in schools. Participative teaching-learning requires activities set in many different contexts, developing the grain-size pieces of knowledge and chaining of the fragments by causal chaining, time sequences and mathematical similarities. Based on the Knowledge-in-Pieces theory by diSessa, we focus on the development of the ability to think in terms of the exponential function, in Physics education from the age of 12. Main ideas are supported by experience with one activity with a bouncing ball designed for pupils at the age of 12. The activity is focused on topics such as measuring quantity, unit, method of measurement. Pupils propose which features of the ball can be investigated and measured. After this introduction, a quantity related to the bouncing is put forward in the activity. It is a dimensionless quantity, which pupils can express as a percentage. Pupils empirically investigate the bouncing of a ball. In the extension, at a higher age, the graph of maximal height vs the number of bounces, pupils discover the same shape they have seen in a water-cooling experiment. The activity was tested on a small sample of pupils, and some interesting results have been noticed. At the end of this contribution, we offer a list of other contexts naturally involving the exponential shape graph applicable in science education.

This work is inserted in the context of technical high school andit aimed to analyze the integration between the branches of FractalGeometry, Analytical Geometry and Computer Programming. For this purpose, we carried out a bibliographic search about whatcharacterizes and distinguishes Fractal Geometry from EuclideanGeometry, we also seek in our readings to list the most famousfractals. Then, we developed (in python language) several fractalgeneration programs. It was possible to work with amazing andeasily programmable fractal shapes, such as the Cantor Set, theHilbert Curve and Sierpinski Triangle. We also built two new familiesof fractal shapes from a generalization of the Koch Curve. Weconclude that programming fractals in the context of technical highschool is productive and challenging, as it requires many changesin the representations of fractal patterns.

This paper introduces the alpha version of a Python library called Iracema, which aims to provide models for the extraction of meaningful information from recordings of monophonic pieces of music, for purposes of research in music performance. With this objective in mind, we propose an architecture that will provide to users an abstraction level that simplifies the manipulation of different kinds of time series, as well as the extraction of segments from them. In this paper we: (1) introduce some key concepts at the core of the proposed architecture; (2) list the current functionalities of the package; (3) give some examples of the application programming interface; and (4) give some brief examples of audio analysis using the system.

Abstract:
The LDPE process involves an extremely high gas pressure in the range of 200 to 300 MPa (2000 to 3000 bar / 29 to 44 kpsi) being provided by so called Hyper compressors. Many of the old machines are still in operation and kept fit for purpose since they still render good service and maintenance costs are well acceptable versus the investment for a new unit. Legacies have been taken over by others if the original OEM does no longer exist. The Hyper compressor cylinder performance is very much associated with the special arrangement of the frame, and the operation implies a perfect movement of the plungers to reduce radial loads on the packing internals to a minimum. High accuracy alignment procedures are therefore of the essence to obtain the best life of the packings and the driving gear. Despite their substantial size and mass the manufacturing tolerances, internal gaps and clearances — particularly for the bearings and crosshead guides — are within the 1/100 mm (0.4 mil) range. As practiced for decades for old Hypers the crosshead shoes are still today scraped by hand to make them perfectly fit into their guide. On the other hand modern laser technique has proven to be the appropriate equipment to ensure the proper quality for the refurbishment of all parts and pieces. The application of such technique — both in the workshop as well as in the field — increases the accuracy of complicated assemblies and also, since laser measurement is quick, reduces down time tremendously. Last not least carefully followed check list procedures for condition verification provide the best achievable MTBM (Mean Time between Maintenance). This paper outlines particular focus points of a Hyper to keep it smoothly running for a long time.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract The Flameless Pressurized Oxy-Combustion (FPO) cycle, a novel flexible fuel technology, is being developed into a large pilot. This effort seeks to complete the preliminary engineering and planning of a 25 MWth Pilot Plant that will demonstrate the technology for scale-up to a commercial unit. The technology, pioneered by ITEA at the 5 MWth scale, must be brought to a higher technology readiness level (TRL) to be viable at the commercial scale. The 25 MWth pilot cycle was optimized for cost and technology development and demonstration. Preliminary drawings, layouts, and plans were defined. Process flow diagrams were used to describe the pilot configuration in greater detail. A heat and mass balance with stream data was created. A master equipment list specified the operating conditions for major pieces of equipment within the pilot using this heat and mass balance. The 25 MWth FPO pilot is assessed for environmental performance. A test campaign is developed to assess the type of test and number of hours required for pilot demonstration. The environmental performance is compared against projected performance at the commercial scale. This project builds upon extensive evaluation of the techno-economic performance of the FPO technology already performed by ITEA. This includes system improvements, such as the addition of a turbo-expander to the flue gas stream. Some of the performance-enhancing components are not as well defined as others. The primary goal of this effort was to bring all of the core cycle components to the same level of design maturity. A techno-economic assessment (TEA) evaluated the FPO technology at the commercial scale in comparison to the NETL baseline cases. The reference plants were used in combination with proprietary equipment estimates to build a plant capital cost and cost of electricity evaluation. FPO performed better than the sub-bituminous post-combustion capture cases. Further preliminary estimates of improvements to the FPO cycle show even further gains when compared to conventional carbon capture methods.
