Abstract:
In application systems of the Internet of Things (IoT), real-time monitoring and control of the systems need to be realized with wireless communications from machine to machine (M2M), especially under harsh application scenarios. The data link of the M2M communication has also a critical effect on the system in the application. In this paper, a wireless bi-directional data link for smart temperature recording is reported. The radio frequency hardware employed consists of NRF24L01 wireless transceivers, RFX2401 amplifiers and matching network sand antennas. The microcontroller unit (MCU) is based on the STM32F103VET6 chip, which controls the NRF24L01 by a four-pin serial peripheral interface (SPI) to realize the bi-directional data link, and the sensor data are sampled with 12-bit analogue-to-digital converters (ADCs). The communication is realized as the interrupt request (IRQ) signal of the NRF24L01 changes periodically. A look-up table and a linear optimization method are also implemented to improve the accuracy of ADC data. The bi-directional data link is then applied to a wired heating control system. The results show that temperature data can be transmitted and received over a distance up to 320 m in an open environment and 52 m in an indoor complex environment with the hardware implemented. The real-time temperature data can be displayed on a computer or a handheld device. Wireless M2M communication and control are thus demonstrated.

Abstract:
Image Captioning, which automatically describes an image with natural language, is regarded as a fundamental challenge in computer vision. In recent years, significant advance has been made in image captioning through improving attention mechanism. However, most existing methods construct attention mechanisms based on singular visual features, such as patch features or object features, which limits the accuracy of generated captions. In this article, we propose a Bidirectional Co-Attention Network (BCAN) that combines multiple visual features to provide information from different aspects. Different features are associated with predicting different words, and there are a priori relations between these multiple visual features. Based on this, we further propose a bottom-up and top-down bi-directional co-attention mechanism to extract discriminative attention information. Furthermore, most existing methods do not exploit an effective multimodal integration strategy, generally using addition or concatenation to combine features. To solve this problem, we adopt the Multivariate Residual Module (MRM) to integrate multimodal attention features. Meanwhile, we further propose a Vertical MRM to integrate features of the same category, and a Horizontal MRM to combine features of the different categories, which can balance the contribution of the bottom-up co-attention and the top-down co-attention. In contrast to the existing methods, the BCAN is able to obtain complementary information from multiple visual features via the bi-directional co-attention strategy, and integrate multimodal information via the improved multivariate residual strategy. We conduct a series of experiments on two benchmark datasets (MSCOCO and Flickr30k), and the results indicate that the proposed BCAN achieves the superior performance.

Abstract:
Multi-scale representation plays a critical role in the field of edge detection. However, most of the existing research focuses on one of two aspects: fast training and accurate testing. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-scale method to resolve the balance between them. Specifically, according to multi-stream structures and the image pyramid principle, we construct a down-sampling pyramid network and a lightweight up-sampling pyramid network to enrich the multi-scale representation from the encoder and decoder, respectively. Next, these two pyramid networks and a backbone network constitute our overall architecture, a bi-directional pyramid network (BDP-Net). Extensive experiments show that compared with the state-of-the-art model, our method could improve the training speed by about one time while retaining a similar test accuracy. Especially, under the single-scale test, our approach also reaches human perception (F1 score of 0.803) on the BSDS500 database.

Abstract:
In this paper, we present a "forward-looking" decision support framework that integrates timely metrics data with a simulation based defect model of the software development process in order to support software project management decisions regarding product quality. These predictions are evaluated using Outcome Based Control Limits (OBCLs) and Bi-Directional (both forward and reverse) simulation models of the software development process. The Bi-Directional models provide useful guidance to the program manager when evaluating possible corrective actions on a project that has gone outside the OBCLs. The forward model predicts the potential performance impacts of the proposed corrective actions. The reverse simulation models are new and take the desired system outcome as the starting point and represent the system as it evolves backward in time to identify the necessary starting point to achieve the desired outcome. The approach is presented using an illustrative example.

Abstract:
In a remote collaboration involving a physical task, visualising gaze behaviours may compensate for other unavailable communication channels. In this paper, we report on a 360° panoramic Mixed Reality (MR) remote collaboration system that shares gaze behaviour visualisations between a local user in Augmented Reality and a remote collaborator in Virtual Reality. We conducted two user studies to evaluate the design of MR gaze interfaces and the effect of gaze behaviour (on/off) and gaze style (bi-/uni-directional). The results indicate that gaze visualisations amplify meaningful joint attention and improve co-presence compared to a no gaze condition. Gaze behaviour visualisations enable communication to be less verbally complex therefore lowering collaborators' cognitive load while improving mutual understanding. Users felt that bi-directional behaviour visualisation, showing both collaborator's gaze state, was the preferred condition since it enabled easy identification of shared interests and task progress.

Abstract:
WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) is a technology that enables browser-to-browser communication. Therefore, a signalling mechanism must be negotiated to create a connection between peers. The main aim of this paper is to create and implement a WebRTC hybrid signalling mechanism named (WebNSM) for video conferencing based on the Socket.io (API) mechanism and Firefox. WebNSM was designed over a combination of different topologies, such as simplex, star and mesh. Therefore it offers several communications at the same time as one-to-one (unidirectional/bidirectional), one-to-many (unidirectional) and many-to-many (bi-directional) without any downloading or installation. In this paper, WebRTC video conferencing was accomplished via LAN and WAN networks, including the evaluation of resources in WebRTC like bandwidth consumption, CPU performance, memory usage, Quality of Experience (QoE) and maximum links and RTPs calculation. This paper presents a novel signalling mechanism among different users, devices and networks to offer multi-party video conferencing using various topologies at the same time, as well as other typical features such as using the same server, determining room initiator, keeping the communication active even if the initiator or another peer leaves, etc. This scenario highlights the limitations of resources and the use of different topologies for WebRTC video conferencing.

Abstract:
<span>This paper presents a bandwidth enhancement of a dual-band bi-directional rectangular microstrip patch antenna. The novelty of this work lies in the modification of conventional rectangular microstip patch antenna by using the combination of two techniques: a complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) and a defected patch structure (DPS). The structure of antenna was studied and investigated via computer </span><span>simulation technology (CST). The dimension and position of CSRR on the ground plane was optimized to achieve dual bandwidth and bi-directional radiation pattern characteristics. In addition, the bandwidths were enhanced by defecting suitable shape incorporated in the microstrip patch. A prototype with overall dimension of 70.45×63.73 mm2 has been fabricated on FR-4 substrate. To verify the proposed design, the impedance bandwidth, gain, and radiation patterns were carried out in measurements. The measured impedance bandwidths were respectively 560 MHz (3.08-3.64 GHz) and 950 GHz (4.64-5.59 GHz) while the measured gains of each bandwidth were respectively 4.28 dBi and 4.63 dBi. The measured radiation patterns were in good agreement with simulated ones. The proposed antenna achieves wide dual bandwidth and bi-directional radiation patterns performances. Consequently, it is a promising candidate for Wi-Fi or 5G communications in specific areas such as tunnel, corridor, or transit and rail.</span>

Abstract:
Bagian ketiga merinci teori dasar. Bagian keempat memaparkan metodologi penelitian dan terakhir adalah batasan masalah dan penutup. ABSTRACT Visible Light Communication (VLC) is a technology that has been on fire for several years and it is assumed to continue in the next few decades because of the many advantages offered, namely the main infrastructure in the form of lighting so that it is cost-effective, free license, safer (Secure), the transmission speed reaches GHz, and has no electromagnetic interference. Since VLC is a relatively new technology, its communication standards also tend to develop is the IEEE 802.15.17 standard published late 2010. This standard still proposes modulation techniques as well as communications in the point-to-point scenario but until now has not accommodated the communication system with Multiuser scenario as well as Bi-directional transmission. This paper is designed to design a bi-directional (uplink and downlink) VLC system that can be used on multiuser schemes with bitrate speeds downlink of up to 1 Mbps for indoor applications. This paper is divided into several parts of the discussion. First define the background of a research to improve the previous research platform and its contribution. The second part describes the relevant research along with the state of the art between this study and others. The third section details basic theories. The fourth section describes the methodology of research and the last is the limitation of the problem and the conclusion. How to Cite : Fuada, S. (2017). Abstract:
Conventional single-stage object detectors have been able to efficiently detect objects of various sizes using a feature pyramid network. However, because they adopt a too simple manner of aggregating feature maps, they cannot avoid performance degradation due to information loss. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a new framework for single-stage object detection. The proposed aggregation scheme introduces two independent modules to extract global and local information. First, the global information extractor is designed so that each feature vector can reflect the information of the entire image through a non-local neural network (NLNN). Next, the local information extractor aggregates each feature map more effectively through the improved bi-directional network. The proposed method can achieve better performance than the existing single-stage object detection methods by providing improved feature maps to the detection heads. For example, the proposed method shows 1.6% higher average precision (AP) than the efficient featurized image pyramid network (EFIPNet) for the MicroSoft Common Objects in COntext (MS COCO) dataset.

Abstract:
<span lang="EN-US">Fog computing is a decentralised computing infrastructure that brings data, storage, computation, and communication resources closer to end users by extending typical cloud computing services to the network edge. A fog node can serve another fog node based on their processing power allowing fog-to-fog interaction. Fog nodes, being independent must be trusted for delegation because they collect sensitive data and share with other discrete fog nodes, where standard cryptographic solutions are ineffective against the internal attacks tossed by rogue fog node. This paper proposes a Bi-directional trust management system for secure transactions and fog-to-fog collaboration to address this problem in a fog environment, which allows a service requester to assess a service provider’s trustworthiness and the service provider to assess the service requester's level of trust before beginning a connection. This trust management system works based on the recommendation system, which is estimated using logistic regression by fog service provider and subjective logic by fog service requester for the establishment of secured connection between them. Using quality of security parameters, the proposed work yields the result of decision making between the fog service requester and fog service provider.</span>

Abstract:
Recently, technologies related to smart grids have attracted more attention due to increasing the demand for renewable energy. One of the most important foundations of smart grids is commonly communications between energies services demands and responses. Almost all the operations on the grids are based on the communications, such as supervision, protection, and isolation. These operations request different requirements for data transmission. The communication technology needs to have high reliability, low latency, and a minimum throughput to guarantee interaction between elements. To limit wires, power line communication (PLC) is a natural choice to deliver bi-directional data transmission between network components to enable smart controller and management of the grid. This paper proposes a PLC solution as a data transmission method for the mesh type DC microgrid. This solution is designed to take advantage of a robust protocol of automotive network - Control Area Network (CAN). The presented architecture is thus intended to propose a PLC system compatible with CAN-bus to provide a safety protocol for DC microgrid with cost effective approach.

Abstract:
AbstractWeb service discovery is a fundamental task in service-oriented architectures which searches for suitable web services based on users’ goals and preferences. In this paper, we present a novel service discovery approach that can support user queries with various-size-grained text elements. Compared with existing approaches that only support semantics matchmaking in single texture granularity (either word level or paragraph level), our approach enables the requester to search for services with any type of query content with high performance, including word, phrase, sentence, or paragraph. Specifically, we present an unsupervised Bayesian probabilistic model, bi-Directional Sentence-Word Topic Model (bi-SWTM), to achieve semantic matchmaking between possible textual types of queries (word, phrase, sentence, paragraph) and the texts in web service descriptions, by mapping words and sentences in the same semantic space. The bi-SWTM captures textual semantics of the words and sentences in a probabilistic simplex, which provides a flexible method to build the semantic links from user queries to service descriptions. The novel approach is validated using a collection of comprehensive experiments on ProgrammableWeb data. The results demonstrate that the bi-SWTM outperforms state-of-the-art methods on service discovery and classification. The visualization of the nearest-neighbored queries and descriptions shows the capability of our model on capturing the latent semantics of web services.

Abstract:
The smart meter is one of the most important components of the smart grid, which enables bi-directional communication between electric power providers and in-home appliances. However, the fine-grained metering mechanism that reports real-time electricity usage to the provider may result in some privacy and security issues for the owner of the smart meter. In this paper, we propose a new secure and anonymous smart metering scheme based on the technique of direct anonymous attestation and identity-based signatures. We utilize the trusted platform module to realize the tamper resistance of the smart meter. Moreover, our scheme is able to detect malfunctioning meters in which data is reported more than once in a time period. Finally, the performance and security results show that our proposed scheme is efficient and satisfies the security requirements of the smart grid communication system.

Abstract:
In this paper, a new technique to monitor and control bidirectional DC-DC converter was designed and implemented precisely. A prototype of a complete system is verified with efficient communication capabilities. This system is realized by integrating the internet of things (IoT) operating system and the bidirectional DC-DC converter. The IoT communication facilities further develop and extend the platform for this system. The DC-DC converter with the soft switching technique will then convert the battery voltage to a high voltage of 380V inverter bus in emergencies via boost converter mode. High-frequency toroidal transformer has been used for power level shifting and isolation between the primary and secondary sides of the transformer. The closed-loop control scheme is implemented in software by using a high-performance 32-bit STM32 micro controller. IoT technique is used to find current, voltage and perform the communication smoothly through Wi-Fi sensors to complete the design of the system. The results of the proposed system prove the effectiveness of the proposed system with high-performance specifications.
