Abstract:
Asırların kazandırdığı sürgün tecrübesi Yahudilere cemaat olarak ayakta kalmanın, eğitimden geçtiği gerçeğini öğretmişti. Bu amaçla organize her cemaatte ilk ve orta öğretim kurumlarının kurulmasına önem verilmiştir. Din adamları eğitimin önemli bir dinî vecîbe olduğunu sıkça dile getirmişler; cemaatleri, çocukların eğitilmesi konusunda teşvik etmişlerdir. Cemaatlerdeki fakir ve yetim öğrencilerin eğitim masrafları cemaat yönetimleri tarafından üstlenilmiştir. Abbasîler döneminde Yahudi eğitiminin temelini, Tevrat ve Talmud öğretimi oluşturmuştur. 6-7 yaşlarında başlanan bet ha-sefer adı verilen ilkokullarda Tora (Tevrat)öğretimi yanında günlük ibadetlerde duaları okuyabilecek kadar İbranîce ve temel ibadet bilgileri ile bir Yahudide bulunması gereken vasıflar ve buna uygun alışkanlıklar kazandırılmaya çalışılırdı. İslam toplumuyla bütünleşmeye paralel olarak öğrencilere basit hesap bilgileri ve Arapça yazımı da öğretilmeye başlamıştır. Yahudilerde orta öğretim İslam kaynaklarında beytülmidras olarak bahsedilen bet ha-midraşlarda yapılırdı. Sinagogların yanında inşa edilen beytülmidrasların yönetiminden betdinler sorumluydu. İlkokula göre daha disiplinli olan beytülmidraslarda öğretim Mişna ve Talmud merkezli idi. Yahudiler, Abbasîler döneminde eğitim-öğretim kurumları açısından en organizeli cemaatlerden biri idi. Kurumsal tecrübeleri miladın ilk asırlarına dayanan Yahudiler, Mesih gelmeden önce mesihî toplumun oluşturulmasında eğitimli toplumun önemini çok iyi anlamış; boş yere isyanlar yerine cemaatlerini dinî yönden eğitmeye yoğunlaşmışlardır. Bu durum onları, yaşadıkları toplumda farklı kılarken, tarih boyunca onlara cemaat olarak varlıklarını devam ettirme imkânı da vermiştir. Din eğitimine her hal ve şartta öncelik veren Yahudiler, bu tutumlarını günümüzde de hâlâ devam ettirmekte, gerek İsrail gerekse dünyanın değişik devletlerinde kurdukları cemaat okullarında çocuklarını eğitmektedirler.

Abstract:
This chapter turns to four contemporaries of Abravanel who also explored the question of dogma in Judaism. Yorn Tov Lippmann Muehlhausen (d. after 1450) is the only medieval Ashkenazi Jew known to have commented on the principles of Judaism. Muehlhausen included two lists of principles in his well-known anti-Christian polemic, Sefer Ha-Niẓẓaḥon. Elijah ben Moses Delmedigo (c.1460–1497) was a philosopher and rabbinic scholar active in Italian renaissance circles. In 1496, he composed his Beḥinat ha-Dat, a work with strongly Averroist overtones dealing with the relationship between religion and philosophy. Delmedigo's countryman, Rabbi David ben Judah Messer Leon (c.1470–1526), is best known as the author of a responsum, Kevod Ḥakhamim. The last figure to deal with the principles of Judaism before the Haskalah was Rabbi Moses ben Joseph Trani (1500–1580), known as the ‘Mabit’), the Safed halakhist. Trani devoted the lion's share of his Bet Elohim to an ethical, homiletical, and philosophical commentary on Maimonides’ thirteen principles.
