Abstract We prove the existence of Morita model structures on the categories of small simplicial categories, simplicial sets, simplicial operads and dendroidal sets, modelling the Morita homotopy theory of {(\infty,1)} -categories and {\infty} -operads. We give a characterization of the weak equivalences in terms of simplicial presheaves, simplicial algebras and slice categories. In the case of the Morita model structure for simplicial categories and simplicial operads, we also show that each of these model structures can be obtained as an explicit left Bousfield localization of the Bergner model structure on simplicial categories and the Cisinski–Moerdijk model structure on simplicial operads, respectively.

Abstract:
Quasi-simultaneous optical and IR photometric (BVRIJHK-bands) and optical polarimetric (RI-bands) observations were made at the 1m telescope of the Assy Observatory, Institute of Astrophysics of Kazakhstan between October 1985 and August 1992. We used the photopolarimeter of the Pulkovo Observatory described by Bergner et al. (1988). Most of our measurements were done with an aperture of 26″. We obtained 26 polarimetric measurements of MWC 349, mainly in the R band. Our data show significant variations in the polarization which has not been reported previously. The amplitude of the polarization parameters is: ΔP = 8% and ΔP.A. = 15°. During 12–13.09.90 five polarimetric observations have been obtained and ΔP = 3% on a time scale of 7 hours was detected. We found strong photometric variability in all photometric bands. There is however no correlation between brightness and polarization in any photometric band.

Quasi-simultaneous optical and IR photometric (BVRIJHK) and optical polarimetric (BVRI) observations were carried out at the 1 m telescope of Assy Observatory (Institute of Astrophysics of the Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences). The photometer-polarimeter of the Pulkovo Observatory (Bergner et al. 1988) was used for the study. All our measurements were done with apertures of 26" and 52".HDE 259431. Our data show a strong polarimetric variability Δp = 2% – 3% and ΔΘ 30° (especially in UV and optical region). Although the general nature of polarization is connected with the dust disk around the star (Dzhakusheva et al. 1988), the polarimetric variability probably has an another origin. This is due to the fact that we have observed a strong polarimetric variability on a time-scale of up to several hours (Dzhakusheva et al. 1988). Incidentally, this rapid polarimetric variability has no correspondence in photometry.

Abstract:
Background: Suicide has a devastating impact on both survivors and society, and many obstacles to improving prevention efforts stem from our inadequate understanding of suicidality. A potential source of this shortcoming is that the majority of empirical studies focus only on a single specified etiology of suicide. Aims: To address this limitation, we present a further promising way to understand the suicidal state. We do so (1) by providing a brief review of something known as worlds theory ( Bergner, 2006 ), and (b) by presenting the results of a study exploring the relationship between a person’s taking it that his or her world is impossible/nonviable and his or her suicidal state. Methods: In this research, participants were asked to assess the perceived levels of world viability (vs. impossibility/nonviability) of 12 actual persons depicted in clinical vignettes. Results: As predicted, participants judged the worlds of suicidal committers significantly more nonviable than those of suicide attempters, and these in turn significantly more nonviable than those of mentally disordered but nonsuicidal persons. Conclusions: These findings indicate that the worlds of suicidal persons are unlivable – in worlds terms: impossible. We discuss implications of these findings for understanding the suicidal state and for intervening therapeutically.

Abstract:
Background:The clinical differentiation between gout, osteoarthritis (OA), and calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease (CPPD) still remains a hurdle in daily practice without imaging or arthrocentesis. Although a plethora of clinical data exists, reliable predictor biomarkers for all but gout are still missing. Objectives:To explore an association between common physical examination, ultrasound and laboratory findings and gout, OA, and CPPD, which can in turn provide reliable diagnostic predictions.Methods:277 patients were retrospectively analysed using ANOVA with Scheffe’s post hoc tests and conditional inference trees regarding biomarkers such as age, sex, body mass index, hypertension, renal status, cumulative affected joint size, number of afflicted joints, double contour sign, intracartiliginous double contour sign, degree of vascularization on ultrasound (DoV), uric acid, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), ferritin, and leucocyte count. Simple linear regressions were carried out to explore associations between increased inflammatory parameters and the above-mentioned biomarkers. Statistically significant associations were defined as p values < 0.05.Results:The male sex was associated with gout (p value < 0.05 vs CPPD and < 0.05 vs OA). OA affected younger patients than CPPD (mean 64.5 vs 73.1 years, p < 0.05). Hypertension was correlated with gout (p < 0.05) and CPPD (p < 0.05), impaired renal status with gout when compared to OA (p < 0.05) but not compared to CPPD (p 0.21). A higher number of involved joints was associated with gout (mean 2.2 joints) compared to OA (1.0, p < 0.05) and CPPD (1.6, p 0.01). The double contour sign was not able to differentiate gout and CPPD with a sensitivity/specificity of 71%/55% for gout and 59%/39% for CPPD. The intracartilaginous double contour sign was specific for CPPD (99%) but with a low sensitivity of 26%. DoV was significantly associated with gout (vs OA, p < 0.05) and CPPD (vs OA, p < 0.05). Unsurprisingly, uric acid was associated with gout while ESR and CRP were increased in gout and CPPD, but not in OA. Some associations were statistically significant but arguably clinically unimportant. Conditional inference trees were able to exclude OA (specificity 97.5%) and CPPD (specificity 94.0%) as possible differentials based on just uric acid, CRP, hypertension, and sex, and diagnose gout with a sensitivity of 95.1%, summarized in Figure 1. Linear regressions demonstrated an elevated CRP response in people suffering from type II diabetes, higher cumulative joint points score, number of affected joints, as well as elevated uric acid, ESR, and leucocyte count.Figure 1.Conditional inference tree using unbiased recursive partitioning to reliably differentiate between gout, osteoarthritis, and calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease. Conclusion:Gout can be reliably diagnosed, simultaneously excluding OA and CPPD as differential diagnoses by conditional inference trees using just four biomarkers. A correlation between inflammatory reaction severity based on CRP levels was found in patients suffering from type II diabetes, more or larger joint involvement and elevated uric acid levels. The double contour sign remains a questionable differentiator between gout and CPPD with a sensitivity/specificity of 71%/55% for gout and 59%/39% for CPPD, similar to findings reported by Löffler et al (1) with a sensitivity/specificity of only 64%/52% for gout.References:[1]Löffler C, Sattler H, Peters L, Löffler U, Uppenkamp M, Bergner R. W głośnym artykule sprzed kilku lat Peter Berger mówi o marginalizacji i rosnącej nieistotności socjologii, wskazując na dwie przyczyny jej upadku: dominację metod ilościowych oraz ideologizację dyscypliny, która – jego zdaniem – przejawia się w niejednokrotnie jałowym powtarzaniu „mantry klasy, rasy i gender”.

Abstract:
We have derived equations, by employing [U-13C]glucose and mass isotopomer analysis, to determine the pathways of glycogen synthesis (J. Katz, W. P. Lee, P. A. Wals, and E. A. Bergner. J. Biol. Chem. 264: 12994–13004, 1989). More recently, by use of these methods we have derived equations to determine the rate of glucose recycling and of gluconeogenesis [Tayek and Katz. Am. J. Physiol.270 ( Endocrinol. Metab. 33): E709–E717, 1996 and 272 ( Endocrinol. Metab. 35): E476–E484, 1997, and Katz and Tayek. Am. J. Physiol. 275 ( Endocrinol. Metab. 38): E537–E542, 1988]. The former equations have been criticized and challenged by C. Des Rosiers, B. R. Landau, and H. Brunengraber [ Am. J. Physiol. 259 ( Endocrinol. Metab. 22): E757–E762, 1990], and the latter recently by B. R. Landau, J. Wahren, S. F. Previs, G. K. Ekberg, D. Yang, and H. Brunengraber [ Am. J. Physiol. 274 ( Endocrinol. Metab. 37): E954–E961, 1998]. Landau et al. claimed that our equations were in error and “corrected” them. Their analysis, and their values for recycling and gluconeogenesis (GNG) differ markedly from ours. We show here our equations and estimates of recycling and GNG to be correct. We present here a theoretical analysis of recycling and discuss the determination of the Cori Cycle and GNG. We illustrate by numerical examples the difference in parameters of glucose metabolism calculated by the methods of Katz and Landau. J. Radziuk and W. N. P. Lee [ Am. J. Physiol. 277 ( Endocrinol Metab. 40): E199–E207, 1999] and J. K. Kelleher [ Am. J. Physiol. 277 ( Endocrinol. Metab. 40): E395–E400, 1999] present a mathematical analysis that, although differing in some respects from Landau’s, supports his equation for GNG. We show in theappendix that their derivation of the equation for GNG is incorrect.

Abstract:
The phenomenological paradigm in sociocultural research is the relay race of Husserl — Schütz — Luckmann and Berger. Despite the first difference between sociology and phenomenology, the emphasis on design, biography, historical context, subjectivity and experience only complement quantitative research with the necessary quality of humanism. Today, when technocratic line is becoming a leading trend, when people talk about neuro-turnaround in science and social practices, phenomenology must be given credit for its courage in sociocultural subjectivity and the actualization of the philosophy of consciousness. Scientometric absorption of the subject is a dangerous way of deflation of philosophy, its reduction to the functional support of the brain-machine interface. The sociocultural phenomenologist Peter Berger (1929–2017) died a year after the demise of his and co-author Thomas Luckmann. Last year there was also jubilee of the founder of phenomenology, Edmund Husserl, who turned 160 years old. The scientometric absorption of the subject is a dangerous way of deflation of philosophy, its reduction to the functional support of the brain-machine interface. The study of the heritage of P. Berger in this regard allows us to proceed to the efficient processing of Husserl’s ideas in the field of describing the valuesemantic world of society and culture. The author proceeds with the study of the model of the socio-cultural and anthropological world, constructed by Peter Ludwig Berger. The subject of the research is the theoretical framework of the phenomenology of society and culture. The main provisions of Berger’s sociocultural phenomenology are: 1) secularization has a heterogeneous porous structure, 2) under capitalism, transcendence is possible as a personal spiritual practice; 3) pluralism of social orders and globalization are the basis for restrained forecasts regarding the society of the future; 4) the clash of bureaucracy and the private is removed by the daily routine of meaning generation. Pursuing issues of the privatization of religion, the theory of modernization, the sociology of knowledge, Berger’s sociocultural phenomenology turns everyday life into a fascinating scientific quest. He easily moves from concrete to abstract and vice versa, but does not throw the reader into the abyss of lifeless ideas. At the same time, the sociologist makes it clear that he is ready to change his mind, he does not close us in a rigid configuration of ideas, yet places the reader in the bootstrap reality. Berger remained in phenomenological position, describing social structures in terms of construction, typification, collective understanding, legitimization of social memory, horizons of reality, habitualization of meanings, reification of meanings, objectification of the lifeworld of utopias. Main conclusions. The sociocultural phenomenology of P. Berger allows you to value-correlate the sacrifices made by capitalism and communism to build a social order. His phenomenology is the method of contextual correlation of different social worlds — science and religion, secular and transcendental, personal and collective. Bergerian sociocultural subjectivism opposes the reduction of philosophy to the information support of a technogenic society and the maintenance of science.

Abstract:
The tax-free savings account (TFSA), introduced in 2009, was intended by the Canadian government to provide an alternative catchment for savings in addition to registered retirement savings plans (RRSPs). However, little empirical evidence exists regarding the impact of saving in TFSAs on saving in RRSPs. To investigate this issue, we conduct empirical analysis, using data from Statistics Canada's Longitudinal Administrative Databank, which contains annual TFSA and RRSP contributions for a sample of 20 percent of all Canadian taxfilers. We find evidence of a displacement effect of TFSAs on RRSPs: every 1 percent increase in a TFSA contribution reduces an RRSP contribution by approximately 0.4 percent. Our findings have implications for Canadians' ability to self-fund their retirement, as well as for the Canadian government's ability to generate future tax revenues.

Abstract:

Uświadamiamy sobie jednak, że Polacy, a konkretnie Berger, czynili wszystko, aby oswoić tamtą straszną wojnę i nadać jej w miarę możliwości jakieś ludzkie oblicze, stworzyć choćby surogat życia i normalnego współistnienia.

Abstract:
The history of electroencephalography begins since 1929, when german psychiatrist Hans Berger published the results of his long-term research on scalp recordings of the integral bioelectrical activity of human brain. Berger coined the term «electroencephalography» and the abbreviation «EEG», characterized the basic patterns of activity, described phenomena of synchronization and desynchronization. Hans Berger legitimately went down into the history of medicine as «the father of EEG». Being a scrupulously honest scientist, Berger rightfully emphasized the impact of studies by russian physiologist Pravdich-Neminsky on «experimental electroencephalography».
