In this paper Ludwig Wittgenstein is interpreted as a philosopher of language and technology. Due to current developments, a special focus is on lifeworld practice and technoscientific research. In particular, image-interpretation is used as a concrete methodical example. Whereas in most science- or technology-related Wittgenstein interpretations the focus is on the Tractatus, the Investigations or On Certainty, in this paper the primary source is his very late triune fragment Bemerkungen über die Farben (“Remarks about the Colours”). It is argued that Wittgenstein’s approach can supplement Don Ihde’s concept of material hermeneutics, and that Wittgenstein’s constructivist and pragmatist claims relate to current authors in the philosophy of technology like Peter Janich, Carl Mitcham or Jürgen Mittelstraß. Ludwig Wittgenstein enables a philosophical approach of transcendental grammars, techno-linguistic forms of life and technoscientific language games. In detail, several methodological aspects regarding relations between language and technology are summarized. Here concretely repeatability and methodical actions play major roles in uncertain situations of language and technology practice. It is shown that Wittgenstein is still underestimated in the philosophy of technology—although his thoughtful conceptualizations of language, social practice and technology bear important methodical insights for current technosciences like synthetic biology, robotics and many others.

In this paper, I will investigate the problem of transparent white, as is it formulated by Ludwig Wittgenstein in Remarks on Colour. I will do so by gathering transparency requirements from RC paragraphs to develop a clear definition of transparency. The impossibility of a transparent white will be explained by pointing to the fact that white conflicts with such a definition. Furthermore, based on Paul Gilbert's and Jonathan Westphal's discussion of the problem of transparent white, I will investigate the problem of transparent black. Although neither transparent white nor transparent black is possible, the impossibility of each is grounded on conflicts with different elements of the definition of transparency.

Nos Bemerkungen über die Philosophie der Psychologie – Remarks on the Philosophy of Psychology (BPPI) escritos entre 1947 e 1948, Wittgenstein expõe o que ele mesmo chama de “plano para o tratamento dos conceitos psicológicos” (Plan zur Behandlung der psychologischen Begriffe). Nosso objetivo neste trabalho é o de apresentar os elementos que fazem a caracterização de tal plano no quadro daquilo que o filósofo vienense entende por Ciência da Psicologia. Indicaremos as peculiaridades da indagação wittgensteiniana sobre os conceitos psicológicos ressaltando que a intenção do filósofo em descrever o uso dos termos psicológicos difere daquilo que se pode considerar uma “descrição” dos fenômenos tal como frequentemente é feito pela Ciência da Psicologia. Finalmente, mostraremos a assimetria entre a primeira e a terceira pessoa como uma inovação no tratamento científico de problemas da psicologia.

Indicaremos neste trabalho as peculiaridades da indagação wittgensteiniana sobre os conceitos psicológicos e ressaltaremos que a intenção do autor ao descrever o uso dos termos psicológicos difere daquilo que se pode considerar como uma ‘descrição’ usual dos eventos psicológicos tal como frequentemente é feito Psicologia com pretensões científicas.

Hierdie artikel toon die verband tussen die idees van Ludwig Wittgenstein oor taalkommunikasie en Karel Schoeman se woordkuns. Dele van wat Wittgenstein as filosofiese stellings in die Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus en die Philosophische Untersuchungen / Philosophical investigations geopenbaar het, is as kreatiewe neerslag in die fiksie en niefiksie van Schoeman herkenbaar, naamlik in die romans van die Stemme-drieluik (Verliesfontein, Hierdie lewe, Die uur van die engel), die roman Verkenning, die reisboek Afskeid van Europa en die sterwensepos Slot van die dag. Die doel van hierdie artikel is om aan die hand van Wittgenstein se idees ’n hermeneutiese proses vir Schoeman se skryfwêreld op gang te bring. Schoeman het kennis gedra van die essensie van Wittgenstein se denke. Ek wil dit stel dat dié kennis deel uitgemaak het van Schoeman se metafiksionele bewussyn, wat via sy kreatiewe talige uitinge geopenbaar is. Eerstens word daar in die inleiding ’n verduideliking aangebied van Wittgenstein se sentrale gedagtes soos dit in sy twee bekendste publikasies, die Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus (1921/22) en die postume Philosophische Untersuchungen / Philosophical investigations (1953) kenbaar gemaak is. Aanvullend verwys die inleiding na Wittgenstein se eweneens postuum gepubliseerde Remarks on colour / Bemerkungen über die Farben (1977). Tweedens word in die inleiding kortliks die verbande tussen Wittgenstein se filosofieë en Schoeman se literêre werk uitgelig. Derdens word dié verbande daarna verder in vier afdelings uitgewerk. Die afdelings behandel die verskille en ooreenkomste tussen Wittgenstein en Schoeman se lewens, die rol van visuele beelde en kleure in taal en hoedat hulle aan die onsegbare aspekte van taal vorm gee. Die bevinding is dat Karel Schoeman in die laat-1980’s en 1990’s belangstelling vir Wittgenstein se denkbeelde getoon het en die gevolgtrekking is dat dié voorkennis in wisselwerking met Schoeman se kreatiewe skryfkundige prosesse getree het.
