Abstract:
This article explores the career of Jacob Behrman (1921–2012) and the growth of Behrman House from a small Jewish bookseller to the leading publisher of Jewish religious school textbooks. Behrman’s success owed in part to his ability to appeal to the vast center, to gauge correctly his consumers’ needs and reflect their outlook and values, to eschew partisanship and play down ideological differences, and to swim with the tide. In addition, I make the case that Behrman House elevated the field of Jewish education by raising the quality of Jewish textbooks, and that through its ascendency played a role in redefining the goals of Jewish education and its undergirding ideological thrust. Behrman was not driven by a single model of Jewish education or a monolithic vision for the Jewish community, but rather, by business exigencies and a connection to Jewish peoplehood and culture.

Abstract:
S.N. Behrman’s Rain from Heaven premiered on Broadway on Christmas Eve, 1934. In the play, Hugo Willens, a refugee from Nazi Germany, describes a pamphlet he had written in Germany that led to his exile: the satirical pamphlet narrates the extermination of all the Jews but one. Tracking Behrman’s wide reading, which he recorded in his diaries, shows that anticipation of genocide was widely shared by writers in the public sphere to which he belonged. Behrman intended the story of the last Jew as a joke, as some of his audience understood, but it was a joke with political force. The fictional comic pamphlet was part of a larger project of remaking the comedy of manners for the purposes of anti-Nazi resistance.

“Does increasing women's schooling raise the schooling of the next generation?” is the question posed by Jere R. Behrman and Mark R. Rosenzweig (2002). Their answer to the question is no. In fact, they conclude that raising women's schooling may lower the schooling of the next generation. We show that Behrman and Rosenzweig's results are not robust to alternative coding schemes and sample selection rules, and argue that their policy inference may be misguided.

Abstract:
Dr. Brian P. Coppola is Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Chemistry at the University of Michigan. He was born in 1957, the same year that Sputnik launched, and was educated by many of the progressive school science movements of the 1960s. He excelled in the college preparatory program at Pinkerton Academy, in Derry, NH. He received his B.S. degree in Chemistry in 1978 from the University of New Hampshire, where he also pursued his interest in art, particularly drawing. In 1980, during graduate school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, while volunteering as the first study group leader in organic chemistry for the Greater University Tutorial Service (GUTS), Coppola had a chance encounter with Harry Behrman. Behrman invented the GUTS program as a part of his PhD in Education, and he ended up sitting in the back of Coppola’s study group room, taking field notes for his thesis. Every week, Behrman and Coppola had a few hours of intense conversation about education as a field of scholarly endeavor, the integration of which into science formed the foundation of Coppola’s professional interests and future plans

Abstract:
American writers began by unique ways of expressing their experience. American literature demonstrated the basic characteristics of all kinds of literature such as characters, plots, settings, images and themes. In this way William Sydney Porter, better known by his pen name O’Henry, was an American short story writer. His stories were known for their surprise endings. The short story The Skylight Room was about a young woman, Miss Leeson and she stayedat one of Mrs. Parker’s parlour. During her outstayed, Miss Leeson happened to swim in hard stormy times and was later rescued by a star. Henry’s another short story The Last Leaf contained the theme of commitment, sacrifice, friendship, compassion, hope and dedication. In this story there were three painters mentioned Sue, Johnsy and Behrman who were committed to something. Very early in this story Johnsy suffered by Pneumonia and she abandonedany hope of living. She stared the vine leaves through the window and she herself concluded that her last breath is decided only by the last leaf of the vine. Sue, her friend made plans to makeJohnsy come out of fear. With the help of Behrman she rebuilt hope in Johnsy. Behrman has paid his own life in order to save the life of Johnsy. The single leaf that he had painted on the wall became his masterpiece. The last leaf had given her hope of living and perished her pessimistic heart and made her to fight against the problem. Through these stories O’Henry sketched the different dimensions of women such as fear, judgement, selfish, kind-heart, virtue, perseverance, mystery, gay-heart, optimistic heart, confidence, good will and contentment.

We reassess the empirical robustness of the empirical findings in Jere R. Berhman and Mark R. Rosenzweig (2002) using new information on schooling which was collected and coded independently of codings carried out by both Kate Antonovics and Arthur Goldberger, and Berhmamn and Rosenzweig. We conclude that the independently coded data and the codings by Antonovics and Goldberger provide additional support for Behrman and Rosenzweig's original results showing that the positive cross-sectional relationship between a mother's schooling and her child's schooling is not robust to controls for unmeasured, intergenerationally correlated endowments, while the positive effect of paternal schooling is robust.

Abstract:
This paper examines the relationship between income and calorie consumption for households in developing countries. Recent papers have questioned the strength of this relationship on the basis of several measurement problems that tend to overstate the responsiveness of calories consumption to income. The paper uses a household data set from Pakistan and estimates calories income elasticities for rural and urban households. The estimation takes into account the concerns raised by Behrman and Deolalikar (1987) and Bouis and Haddad (1992) about quality effects and unobservable variables. The paper finds that the elasticity is significantly different from zero. Furthermore, the relationship appears to be different according to households’ incomes. Poor households’ responsiveness of calories intake to changes in income is greater than that of the entire sample. These results are consistent with the conventional wisdom that existed before the recent criticisms.

Abstract:
In the recent literature on development economics, the adjective 'human' is encountered with increasing frequency. On the one hand, the 'human resource-led development (HRLD) strategies' of the kind that were presumably adopted by the Newly Industrialized Countries of Asia are being increasingly cast as the leading means of achieving rapid economic growth. And on the other hand, in a manner that is reminiscent of the 'growth versus distribution' debate of the early 1970s, we are being urged to set our goals more in terms of broad 'human development' of the society rather than merely its 'economic growth'. These new trends in the economic development literature are evident from the contents ofthe recent academic journals as well as from the activities of the various international organizations. The World Bank's choice of 'Poverty' as the theme for its 1990 World Development Report, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission's April 1988 pronouncement of the 'Jakarta Plan of Action' regarding human resource development in the ESCAP region, the United Nations Development Programme's recent Human Development Report, and the Asian Development Bank's analysis of the role of human resources in economic growth in its 1990 Asian Economic Outlook are cases in point.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Worldwide, 15 million babies are “born too soon” every year (Blencowe et al., 2012; Howson et al., 2013). Remarkably, prematurity survival rates now exceed 93% across all countries. More than 360,000 preterm babies survived in the United States in 2020; 10% of all births (Blencowe et al., 2012; Howson et al., 2013). While this is an incredible achievement, preterm birth places the developing infant in a particularly vulnerable state for life-long adverse developmental outcomes. Due to improved survival rates, developmental disabilities, including hearing, visual, motor, cognitive, speech-language, and literacy deficits, have also increased (McCormick & Behrman, 2007). In addition to the medical and developmental consequences, the increased cost of raising a preterm child compared to a term-born child exceeds $134,000 or >60 billion annually in U.S. dollars, adjusted for the year 2023 (Mangham et al., 2009). In contrast, the cost of early intervention is a relative bargain, at $1,240 per preterm infant, adjusted for the year 2023 (Clements et al., 2007). Early intervention is highly likely to be effective, based on the remarkable plasticity of the newborn brain (White et al., 2013).

Abstract:
Minimally invasive surgery has been utilized in the field of obstetrics and gynecology as far back as the 1940s when culdoscopy was first introduced as a visualization tool. Gynecologists then began to employ minimally invasive surgery for adhesiolysis and obtaining biopsies but then expanded its use to include procedures such as tubal sterilization (Clyman (1963), L. E. Smale and M. L. Smale (1973), Thompson and Wheeless (1971), Peterson and Behrman (1971)). With advances in instrumentation, the first laparoscopic hysterectomy was successfully performed in 1989 by Reich et al. At the same time, minimally invasive surgery in gynecologic oncology was being developed alongside its benign counterpart. In the 1975s, Rosenoff et al. reported using peritoneoscopy for pretreatment evaluation in ovarian cancer, and Spinelli et al. reported on using laparoscopy for the staging of ovarian cancer. In 1993, Nichols used operative laparoscopy to perform pelvic lymphadenectomy in cervical cancer patients. The initial goals of minimally invasive surgery, not dissimilar to those of modern medicine, were to decrease the morbidity and mortality associated with surgery and therefore improve patient outcomes and patient satisfaction. This review will summarize the history and use of minimally invasive surgery in gynecologic oncology and also highlight new minimally invasive surgical approaches currently in development.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of 3 months of aromatase inhibition together with progestin add-back on ovarian endometrioma size. This prospective cohort study was performed at University Medical Center (UC San Diego). Women trying to conceive were excluded. After informed consent, all women were treated with the aromatase inhibitor letrozole (5 mg/d) with norethindrone acetate (5 mg/d) add-back for 3 months. Pre- and posttreatment assessments of endometrioma sizes were performed by ultrasound. The impact of treatment on pain was determined using the patient assessed endpoints of the Biberoglu and Behrman scale. These included assessing dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, and nonmenstrual pelvic pain each on a scale from 0 to 3. The primary endpoint of this study was the change in ultrasound documented endometrioma size. Fourteen endometriomas in 8 consecutive women were treated for 3 m. Mean endometrioma diameter decreased 50% from 4.6 ± 1.6 cm to 2.3 ± 1.6 cm (mean ± SD). This represents a 75% decrease in endometrioma volume. Endometriosis symptoms of dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, and nonmenstrual pelvic pain also improved with treatment. In conclusion, a 3-month course of high dose aromatase inhibition with progestin add-back significantly reduces ovarian endometrioma size and warrants further investigation.

Abstract:
Voice rest is often prescribed after the surgical removal of benign vocal fold lesions. Adherence to voice rest recommendations and recovery from phonomicrosurgery present unique challenges to patients and clinicians. The purpose of this article was to summarize what is currently known about adherence to voice rest, the impact of voice rest on patient-reported quality of life, and the potential role of personality in adherence to treatment recommendations. Voice rest is a form of vocal hygiene treatment that is aimed at improving laryngeal health and function (Thomas & Stemple, 2007). There are primarily two types of voice rest protocols used in the postoperative management of patients. Absolute voice rest involves the complete cessation of voice use for a specified time period. In contrast, relative voice rest involves a significant decrease and/or modification in the habitual pattern of voice use (Thomas & Stemple, 2007; van der Merwe, 2004). Otolaryngologists frequently recommend voice rest following microlaryngoscopic surgery for benign vocal fold lesions (van der Merwe, 2004). Unlike some other forms of voice therapy, voice rest is considered to be a primarily preventative and hygienic approach in the management of dysphonia. The primary rationale for conserving the voice is to substantially reduce the amount of vocal fold vibration to facilitate repair and reduce the risk of postsurgical scarring (Behrman & Sulica, 2003; Ishikawa & Thibeault, 2010).

After the determination of the prevalence of the pathological process (intraoperatively), the subjects were divided into three groups. A1 group (n=67) included women with severe disease who had an optimized approach for postoperative management. A2 group (n=75) included patients with moderate severity of EGE and the traditional treatment approach. B group was a comparison group (n=65) and was formed from patients with severe disease who were traditionally treated.Clinical-anamnestic, laboratory, morphological, immunohistochemical methods, gynecological examination data, ultrasound examination of the pelvic organs were used during the examination of women with EGE; magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) – if necessary. The standard approach included surgical treatment (laparoscopic method), removal of visible endometrioid heterotopias and the medical treatment from the 1st day of the next menstrual cycle after surgery (progestins (dienogest 2 mg) for 6 months or gonadotropin-releasing agonists in the presence of comorbidity of hyperplastic processes for 3-6 months in combination with add-back therapy). In the absence of reproductive plans combined oral contraceptives or intrauterine levonorgestrel-releasing system were used. Patients were observed for 1 month, 1 year after surgery, and then once a year. The optimized approach included surgery (laparoscopy or laparotomy) with the removal of endometrioid heterotopias, use of nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drugs in the postoperative period for 5 days, then dienogest 2 mg for 3-6 months was used by the cases of algomenorrhea and other manifestations of pain. The pathogenetic therapy was started on the 2nd or 3rd day of the postoperative period. Patients were observed for 2 months after surgery, then every 3 months for 1 year. The severity of pain was assessed on the Biberoglu and Behrman (B’n’B) and Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) scales. Recurrence of the disease was diagnosed in the presence of endometrioid heterotopia according to ultrasound examination and/or MRI, as well as the appearance of clinical complaints (pain) in 6 months after their absence.Results. In one year after the first surgery, recurrence of the disease was found in 13.43 % of women in A1 group, 12 % – A2 group and 24.61 % – B group. The average value of pain on the NRS scale in 12 months after treatment was 3.26 points in A1 group, 2.47 – A2 group and 1.59 – B group, on the B’n’B scale - 1.94, 1.61, and 1.40 points, respectively. Conclusions. The applying an optimized approach in the management of patients with severe and moderate external genital endometriosis (more radical surgery, the prescription at once in the postoperative period the hormonal therapy and nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drugs, more frequent observation after surgery) compared with traditional treatment lead to decrease the pain severity on 3.26 points on the Biberoglu and Behrman scale and 1.94 points – the Numerical Rating Scale, and reduce the recurrence rate by 45.4%.

Abstract:
Aim. To assess the efficacy and safety of 24-week therapy with dienogest in patients with endometriosis-associated pelvic pain resistant to surgical treatment. Materials and methods. The study included 126 patients aged 3340 years with external genital endometriosis (EGE) confirmed by laparoscopy and morphological examination (International classification of diseases, 10th revision [ICD-10] N80.1, 80.2, 80.3, 80.4) and with pelvic pain that occurred in 36 months after surgical treatment of EGE (ICD-10 N94.8 "Pain and other conditions associated with female genital organs and menstrual cycle"). The participants were stratified into 3 groups by pain syndrome severity according to the Verbal Analog Scale (VAS). The group-1 included patients with 1040 mm, the group-2 with 4170 mm, and the group-3 with more than 71 mm pain score according to VAS. Patients of all 3 groups were prescribed the denogest (Zafrilla, Gedeon Richter, 2 mg/day) for 24 weeks (according to the current pack insert). Follow-up and assessment of treatment outcomes were carried out over 6 months. Study design: prospective, observational, comparative study. Results. In 3 and 6 months after the start of therapy, there was a stable statistically significant decrease in pain syndrome severity by all scales (Biberoglu Behrman Scale, Numeral Rating Scale, VAS) in each of the groups (p0.01). In all 3 groups, treatment led to an improvement in sexual function, assessed with the Female Sexual Function Index scale, in 3 and 6 months after the start of therapy (p0.01). According to the quality of life in endometriosis (Endometriosis Health Profile) questionnaire, the analyzed indicators significantly improved in all study participants (p0.01). Conclusion. Dienogest is an effective and safe method for the treatment of endometriosis-associated pelvic pain resistant to surgical treatment. Treatment with dienogest for 24 weeks effectively relieves pain, improves symptoms, and improves quality of life and sexual functioning.

Abstract:
Abstract The composition of resident microbes in the human body is linked to various diseases and their treatment outcomes. Although studies have identified pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) associated bacterial communities in the oral and gut samples, herein we hypothesize the prevalence of microbiota in pancreatic tumor tissues is different as compared to their matched adjacent, histologically normal appearing tissues and these microbial molecular signatures can be highly useful for PDAC diagnosis/prognosis. In this study, we performed comparative profiling of bacterial populations in pancreatic tumors and their respective adjacent normal tissues using 16S rRNA-based metagenomics analysis. This study revealed a higher abundance of Proteobacteria and Actinomycetota in tumor tissues compared to adjacent normal tissues. Interestingly, the Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) scores unambiguously revealed an enrichment of Delftia in tumor tissues, whereas Sphingomonas, Streptococcus, and Citrobacter exhibited depletion in tumor tissues. Furthermore, we analyzed the microbial composition between different groups of patients with different tumor differentiation stages. The bacterial genera, Delftia and Staphylococcus were very high in G1 stages (well differentiated) compared to G2 (well to moderate/moderately differentiated) and G3/G4 (poorly differentiated). However, the abundance of Actinobacter and Cloacibacterium was found to be very high in G2 and G3, respectively. Additionally, we evaluated the correlation of PD-L1 expression with the abundance of bacterial genera in tumor lesions. Our results indicated that three genus such as Streptomyces, Cutibacterium, and Delftia have a positive correlation with PD-L1 expression. Collectively, these findings demonstrate that PDAC lesions harbor relatively different microbiota compared to their normal tumor-adjacent tissues, and this information might be helpful for the diagnosis and prognosis of PADC patients. Abstract:
Introduction. Deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) is considered the most painful form of endometriosis, responsible for reducing the women’s quality of life (QoL). Its management presents difficulties in medicine. The #Enzian classification reflects locations of DIE and simplifies its medical management. International guidelines recommend studies of QoL in women with endometriosis. Objective. To investigate the symptoms of DIE and determine its impact on QoL to optimize its diagnostics. Materials and methods. A cohort study was conducted over 2 years at the Gheorghe Paladi Municipal Clinical Hospital, including 190 patients with endometriosis, who were divided into groups: main group - 85 patients with DIE, control group - 105 other endometriosis forms. To objectify the pain, Visual Analog Scale and Biberoglu and Behrman (B&B) were used. Endometriosis was staged with the #Enzian classification. For the analysis of QoL, three standardized questionnaires were used. Data were recorded in Excel and statistically calculated with the SPSS program. Results. Pelvic pain syndrome according to the Visual Analog Scale and B&B scales in the main group was 3 times more pronounced than in the control group (p < 0.01). Lesions of DIE according to the #Enzian statistically correlated with chronic pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, dysuria, dyschezia >7 points (VAS), catamenial rectal tenesmus, defecation disorders, menometrorrhagia, hematuria, bladder tenesmus, hydronephrosis with ureteral stenting during pregnancy, catamenial cough and hemoptysis, chest pain and spontaneous pneumothorax, hemorrhagic scar, hiccups, and the frenicus symptom (p < 0.05). According to the questionnaires of QoL, DIE significantly influences life determinants by 44.27%, compared to the control group at 3.64% (p < 0.01), allowing realization of life determinants in a maximum of 58.54% vs. the control group’s 92.18% (p < 0.01). Additionally, psychological well-being in patients with DIE is lower than that in the control group (44.29% vs. 81.38%, p < 0.01). Conclusions. High-intensity pain syndrome and extragenital symptoms correlated with compartments of #Enzian will assist in the preoperative multidisciplinary diagnosis of DIE. The high influence on life determinants, the low realization of life potential, and the low psychological well-being confirm the significant impact of DIE on QoL, classifying it as a disability.

Abstract:
A germination study was conducted to evaluate the effect of different seed sources on germination parameters and seedling vigor of Oroxylum indicum seeds under laboratory conditions. Significant differences were observed in various germination parameters, moisture content, seed weight, seedling length and seedling vigor index of seeds collected from five different sources in Himachal Pradesh. The maximum germination per cent (100%), mean daily germination (2.17% and 2.08%), peak value (0.67 and 0.63), germination value (1.47 and 1.31), germination speed (3.96 and 3.89), seedling length (6.14 cm and 5.71 cm) and seedling vigor index (614.00 and 571.00) was recorded in seeds collected from the Dhamtal and Jheol seed sources. Like wise the minimum germination per cent (87.25%), mean daily germination (1.74%), peak value (0.60), germination value (1.04), Germination speed (3.39), seedling length (4.76 cm) and seedling vigor index (415.31) was recorded in seeds collected from the Behran seed source. The maximum moisture content (7.02%) was recorded in seeds collected from Behran whereas the minimum moisture content (5.93%) was recorded in seeds collected from the Jalari seed source. The maximum value of 100 seed weight (8.50 g) was recorded in seeds collected from the Dhamtal whereas the minimum value of 100 seed weight (8.23 g) seeds was recorded in seeds collected from the Behran seed source. Similarly, a maximum seedling length (6.14 cm) and seedling vigor index (614.00) were also recorded in seeds collected from Dhamtal whereas a minimum seedling length (4.76 cm) and seedling vigor index (415.31) was recorded from seeds collected from the Behran seed source. The present investigation revealed that the seeds of O. indicum collected from the Dhamtal and Jheol seed source in the Kangra district can be used for better germination and raising nursery stock for its plantation in the lower belt of Himachal Pradesh.

Abstract:
Abstract The Behrami and Saramati decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has invited severe censure for discarding the well-established dichotomy between UN peacekeeping and UN-authorized operations, and applying the ultimate authority and control test instead of the effective control test for the purpose of attribution in the context of the UN-authorized operation in Kosovo. Harsh criticism notwithstanding, in Serdar Mohammed and Kontic, the domestic courts in the UK have recently followed the Behrami and Saramati approach. In Kontic, nearly 10 years after the Behrami and Saramati decision, the court found that the approach taken by the ECtHR was ‘persuasive authority of the very weightiest kind’. Therefore, it is high time for Behrami and Saramati to be revisited. This study argues that the ECtHR did apply the effective control test along with the ultimate authority and control test in Behrami and Saramati, and that the UK courts aligned themselves with this approach. The Behrami and Saramati decision was not fundamentally wrong as a matter of interpretation and the conclusion reached by the ECtHR that the misconduct was not attributable to the respondent states was not manifestly absurd. Nevertheless, the decision was not without deficiency because it failed to take full account of the delicate equilibrium that the effective control test seeks. The present study aims to precisely identify what was wrong with the decision.

Abstract:
An outlier of mallee vegetation occurs south of the Great Dividing Range in Victoria in a rain shadow region (annual rainfall approx. 500 mm) about 50 km west of Melbourne. A Eucalyptus behriana open-scrub with a sparse understorey of chenopods, mosses, lichens and some grasses occurs on solonetz soil on lateritized Tertiary sandy clays and on skeletal soils on Ordovician slates and sandstones. The dryness of the mallee site is probably exacerbated by the smaller rate of water infiltration and greater salinity of the solonetz soil under E. behriana compared with the solodic soil, in the moister area further north, under an open-forest of E. microcarpa. The multistemmed habit of E. behriana appears to be partly genetically fixed. Hollow lignotuberous rings, filled to a depth of about 15-25 cm with brown, nutrient-rich humus, are common. Pattern analysis of the distribution of stems of E. behriana indicated strong clumping at about 9 m², due to the multistemmed habit, and weaker clumping at about 600 m², which correlated with the size of groups of dense, spindly individuals of E. behriana, resulting from a past phase of gap regeneration.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction: In pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), low patient survival rate remains a problem. The activating point mutation of KRAS on codon-12 is present in 70-95% of PDAC cases and so far, no success has been achieved to inhibit KRAS. KRASG12D regulates cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis; recent preliminary and published studies show high Galectin-1 (Gal-1) levels in both PDAC and stromal cells, which modulate tumor microenvironment and metastasis. Therefore, we have developed a novel combination therapy for PDAC by targeting mutated KRASG12D and Gal-1 to target both proliferation and metastasis in PDAC. This includes the delivery of KRASG12D inhibiting siRNA (siKRASG12D) using a superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticle (SPION) and a galectin inhibitor. Methods: Our patented SPION nano-formulation was used to deliver siKRASG12D and investigated in conjunction with Gal-1 inhibitor for its anticancer efficacy. Particles were investigated for size, physico-chemical characterization (Dynamic light scattering), hemocompatibility (hemolysis assay) and the complexation of siKRAS (gel retardation assay). Cellular internalization and uptake of the particles were investigated. Anti-cancer efficacy was determined using in vitro functional assays for cell viability (MTT), migration (Boyden chambers), invasion (Matrigel), clonogenicity, tumor spheroid formation, and in a mouse model. Results: Our results demonstrate optimal particle size/zeta potential of SP-siKRAS formulation. SP-siKRAS efficiently internalized in PDAC cells and suppressed KRASG12D as well as its downstream targets, YAP and PDL-1. Combined targeting of siKRAS and Gal-1 inhibited cell proliferation. It inhibited cell proliferation, clonogenicity, migration, and invasion of PDAC cells. This resulted in activation of death related mechanisms, such as Bax, bcl-2, PARP cleavage in KRASG12D cells. Interestingly, the formulation was highly effective in inhibiting KRASG12D and growth of tumor spheroid in 3D cell models, which recapitulate the heterogeneity and pathophysiology of PDAC. This further provides a clinical validation demonstrating potential of SP-siKRAS particles to efficiently silence KRAS expression. SP-siKRAS also exhibited hemocompatibility and stability suggesting its potential of silencing KRAS without being toxic to the body. The formulation efficiently exhibited KRasG12D silencing and inhibited tumor growth and metastasis in nude mice. Conclusion: This gene therapy targeting KRAS G12D mutation with a Gal-1 inhibition has a potential to modulate the oncogenic network and tumor microenvironment resulting in the repression of growth, metastasis, chemoresistance, and improvement in patient survival. This study will develop a novel sustainable therapeutic approach to target PDAC growth and improve patient survivability. Citation Format: Ana I. Abstract Introduction: Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma (PDAC) patients exhibit extremely poor prognosis. KRAS mutation on codon-12 is present in 70-95% of PDAC cases and it drives PDAC growth and progression. Therefore, this study discusses the efficiency of combined inhibition of mutated KRASG12D and Gal-1 inhibition to effectively suppress PDAC growth and progression. Our results showed that the combination treatment inhibited the fibrotic tumor growth and increased survival rate. The combined treatment increased infiltration of total T cell population and CD8+T cells, reduced the population of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) by 50% (CD45+, CD3-, CD11b+, Ly6C high, Ly6G-) and T-Regulatory cells (Treg) by 57% (FoxP3+CD25+CD45+CD3+) and increased memory T cells by 34% in mice. Abstract:
Behria is a genus of petaloid geophytes endemic to the Cape Region of Baja California Sur, Mexico. It belongs to the Milla clade within the subfamily Brodiaeoideae of the Asparagaceae family. Currently, Behria tenuiflora is the only recognized species within this genus. In our methodological approach, we considered two distinct floral morphotypes: Group A consists of populations found at lowland elevations (10–150 m), while Group B comprises plants growing at mid to high elevations (400–2060 m). The aim of our study was to investigate whether there are discernible morphological differences and correlations with climate variables between Behria Group A and Group B. To address this, we measured nine quantitative characters for 94 plants from seven populations of Behria tenuiflora. Our findings revealed statistically significant differences (P < 0.05) in pedicel length, perianth length, perianth base diameter, and perianth aperture diameter of the analyzed Behria groups. Based on these results, we propose the recognition of Behria leonis as a new species. Additionally, we provide a morphological key for distinguishing Behria and Bessera genera, along with illustrations, a distribution map, and photographs.
