Ward, R. Dionne. "A Study of Two Urban Middle Schools: Discipline Practices Used to Control Disruptive Behavior of Students." Diss., Virginia Tech, 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/29293.

Full text
Abstract:
Schools are facing challenges in their efforts to educate children appropriately and safely. Students who demonstrate inappropriate, anti-social, and/or disruptive behaviors are becoming more prevalent. School personnel are dealing with disruptive behaviors that occur more frequently and that affect staff and student safety. Additionally, the lack of discipline or management of disruptive behaviors has been identified by the public as the most persistent and possibly the most troublesome issue facing schools ( Cotton, 2001; Elam, Rose, & Gallop, 1998; Fitzsimmons, 1998; Killion, 1998). An assumption in managing problem behaviors in many urban schools is that punishment will change behavior. According to Skiba and Peterson (2000), severe and penalizing disciplinary policies frequently produce a negative school environment rather than improving student behavior. In general, urban schools across the nation rely on suspensions, loss of privileges, reprimands, and or expulsion as means of discipline. Unfortunately, these reactive consequences only help a small number of children learn to "comply with general expectations" and are insufficient for many students who exhibit more challenging behavior problems. This study examines the disciplinary practices being used in two urban middle schools to control disruptive behavior of students. It will reveal what aspects of certain disciplinary practices are viewed as helpful as well as areas needing improvement. It will also give insight into whether selected urban school principals and other stakeholders are using proactive strategies and techniques demonstrated in the research literature as being the most effective in terms of changing inappropriate behavior. Undertaking this study through the application of qualitative research methods of inquiry as a study using interviews, examining relevant documents, and observations will allow me an opportunity to explore my personal reactions to the defined disciplinary practices in the identified schools.

Rinehart, Brenda L. "How Christian leaders become their best-self| A generic qualitative study." Thesis, Capella University, 2016. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=10105296.

Full text
Abstract:

The literature supports that as leaders pursue personal and professional growth, they achieve a sense of well-being, become healthier, more engaged, and more productive. This study explores how Christian leaders who have a strong core spiritual identity experience growth toward their best-self. According to the literature, the best-self is a positive psychology approach to personal growth that utilizes a person’s natural strengths and skills to describe one’s personal best. Adult identity development is multifaceted and influenced by numerous factors. A spiritual identity built upon strong beliefs results in a salient identity that influences every part of one’s life. Utilizing a generic qualitative methodology and a snowball sampling strategy, eight participants were interviewed. Multiple consistent themes were identified in the data: (a) an integration of spiritual identity (b) enhanced self-awareness (c) saliency of spiritual identity, (c) roles and motivations defined by faith, (d) altruism, (e) role identity as a calling, (f) faith-based decision-making, (g) intrapersonal and interpersonal prayer, a personal relationship with God, (h) the need to be supported by like-minded individuals, (i) the alignment of organizational values and personal values, and (j) personal growth defined by God. One unexpected finding was the way the participants defined best-self. Based on their narratives, the participants viewed their best-self, including their talents and abilities, as being defined by God, stating that to become the person that God designed them to be would be achieving best-self. The significance of spirituality in the workplace was discovered through the participants’ experiences. This was also supported in the literature. These themes are presented and explored along with recommendations for future research.

Deulen, Angela A. "The neurobiology of groupthink| A qEEG approach to the study of followership." Thesis, Pepperdine University, 2016. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=10098668.

Full text
Abstract:

In recent decades, the study of leadership has focused on the qualities of leaders rather than on those of followers. However, it has been argued that there can be no meaningful construct of leadership without a coherent understanding of followership and group behavior. While the body of literature is replete with information on the study of groupthink and conformity as it relates to followership, the neurobiological drivers of such behavior remain under-investigated. The purpose of this work was to investigate the neurobiological basis of groupthink (conformity of thought) as a component of followership. Specifically, this work seeks to investigate six research questions: How does cognitive rigidity and ideological commitment interact to influence groupthink, does the presence or absence of decision-making protocol affect groupthink outcomes, to what extent does the presence or absence of a leader, as well as leader bias drive groupthink, and how does the brain respond in each of these conditions with regard to groupthink and conformity. Two separate experiments were used. The first experiment served as a pilot condition to test the efficacy of a hypothetical vignette. However, an opportunity was seen to test an interactional matrix of cognitive rigidity and ideological commitment (the first research question). In the second experiment, the research questions were tested in a similar mock decision-making group using the same vignette. However, quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG) baseline pretest data and posttest data were taken and compared to assess for changes in the brain related to groupthink. Both studies utilized confederates to form the groups to which the researcher measured conformity. While no statistically significant relationships were found directly for any of the research questions, the research did show some interesting patterns. The use of decision-making protocol did seem to slow down conformity when taken into account with other variables, such as leader style. Additionally, consistent with the pre-existing literature, patterns were seen in study two with regard to changes in the frontal cortex, including the medial frontal gyrus, and anterior cingulate. Implications for organizations and churches as well as suggestions for future studies are presented in the final chapter.

Martinus, Paul M. "Generic qualitative study on systems conflict as described by employees' leader-member exchanges." Thesis, Capella University, 2016. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=10144290.

Full text
Abstract:

This study addressed the problem of conflict in the workplace as experienced by leader-member exchanges (LMXs). The background and significance of this study concerned the research problem and questions asking about systems conflict in the workplace according to LMXs. The study used a generic qualitative research design; participants were obtained online via purposive and snowball sampling. Participants who were Facebook users were asked to describe their conflict experiences in the workplace that were then thematically analyzed. Results showed that either systems conflict in LMXs described leadership and followership; or that types of members in such exchanges described conflict systems. Addressing the problem by answering the research question fills a knowledge gap that the scientific community and organizational leaders might use to address systems conflict in the workplace.

Abstract:
The weather is an ever present and uncontrollable element in our lives. Only a handful of studies has addressed the relationship between weather and the behavior of children, although anecdotal and intuitive evidence of this relationship abounds. The purpose of this study was to observe the behavior of groups of elementary school-aged children in their classroom ecology during different phases of the weather cycle as observed by their teachers, observe any behavioral differences between girls and boys, and observe if any weather -related differences exist between the behavior of younger and older children. A model of the direct and indirect influence of the weather on children was introduced, and a comprehensive, systematic method of classifying weather data for analysis was presented. A significant relationship was found between day of week, grade, school, weather, and behavior.

Knapp, Jennifer Mary Smith. "A study of floatation froth behavior." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 1990. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/41996.

Full text
Abstract:

In order to develop a better understanding of the role of the froth phase in coal flotation, froth stability measurements have been conducted using a continuous flotation cell. The results indicate that the mass flow rate of coal or mineral matter reporting to the product is linearly related to the flow rate of water reporting to the product. This relationship has been used to distinguish the relative contributions of hydrophobic attachment or hydraulic entrainment to the total product recovery. Simple mathematical expressions have also been developed to characterize the cleanability of various coals.

A mathematical model based on first principles has been developed to provide additional insight into the complex relationship between the various operating parameters of a flotation cell and the froth behavior. The predicted results compare favorably to actual flotation test data for most conditions. In addition, a simple method was developed to study the fundamental interactions of various frothing agents with coal particles. The results of these studies indicate that the adsorption behavior of frothers in the presence of coal depends on both the physical properties of the frothing agent and the coal.

Wiard, Theodore John. "Leadership Behaviors in the Midst of an Organizational Change Initiative| A Case Study." Thesis, Grand Canyon University, 2018. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=10826393.

Full text
Abstract:

The purpose of this qualitative, single case study was to understand leadership behaviors that motivate internal stakeholders to trust a leader’s vision, embrace change, facilitate employee willingness to passionately implement actions needed for an organizational change initiative and willingly sustain a change initiative. A sample of 20 internal stakeholders was studied, five leaders and 15 followers within an organization of 800+ employees, located in the southwestern region of the United States, which is currently undergoing a change initiative. The research questions were based upon Kurt Lewin’s three-step model of change: unfreezing, transitioning, and refreezing. This research asked how leadership behaviors facilitated employee willingness to trust a leader’s vision and embrace change, passionately implement actions needed for a change, and sustain a change initiative, making an implemented initiative the new normal for the organization. Three themes emerged to address the research questions: 1) know your audience and walk your talk; 2) communication, vision, trust, and buy-in; and 3) residual passion and perseverance. Findings suggested that leadership behaviors influence internal stakeholders in relation to a change initiative and that leaders who are hands-on, consistent, and demonstrate a clear vision increased the possibility of gleaning passion and trust to increase the potential for success during an organizational change initiative.

Abstract:
New high-throughput behavioral systems enable the recording of continuous behavioral sequences with an unprecedented richness of signals and a deep temporal resolution. Automated systems offer neuroscience the opportunity to tackle in a new way the old question of how the brain orchestrates behavior and ultimately understand brain function itself, however, they accumulate large amounts of data leading to what is being termed Big Behavioral Data. The manipulation, analysis and contextualization of these data to obtain useful biological insights is not a trivial problem. This thesis presents Pergola, a computational framework to comprehensively analyze spontaneous longitudinal behaviors. Pergola provides access to a large set of mature genomic bioinformatics tools for the analysis and visualization of continuous behavioral recordings. I also explored multidimensional analysis techniques to help reducing the huge spatio-temporal dimensionality derived from behavioral recordings, and the high variability associated to all behavioral paradigms. This problem is addressed adapting Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for statistical inference on complex behaviors such as the recognition of learning strategies.

The implementation of the National Health Insurance provides all citizens with quality and convenient medical service. However, the decision of purchasing a large amout of prescription drugs was crucially made by physicians. Therefore, the factors which might have a great influence on physicians' decision-making have become extremely significant. In retrospect, the research on the relation between domestic marketing strategies and physicians' behavior on prescribing drugs rarely covers the 4P's of marketing in any other single-case studies. Moreover, most of the researches aim at prescription drugs covering by the health insurrance. Phamaceutical companies are currently facing severe difficulties and challenges. Normally, they take some measures to respond to the market demands. On the one hand, they adopt some approaches in an attemtp to "increase profits", such as accelerating new product launch, expanding more purposes of old products and increasing the market share. On the other hand, they also control or reduce both internal costs and external costs for the purpose of "cutting costs." In addtion, it usually takes longer period of time for the research and development of new drugs and the regulations on the appplication process of bringing new drugs to the market are not easy to control. The expansion of new purposes in old drugs also have to undergo the validation of prolonged academic studies and the application process in order to make available in the market. In other words, it is evident that pharmaceustical companies are in the face of adverstiy. If they can fully understand the factors that might affect physicians to prescribe drugs, it will make it much easier to come up with more appropriate marketing strategies to expand the market share, increase profits and respond to any impact caused by environmental changes. In view of this, the aim of this study is to focus on the factors that might influence physicians' prescribing behavior.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO). Road traffic accidents, the leading cause of death by injury and the tenth-leading cause of all deaths globally. An estimated 1.2 million people are killed in road crashes each year, and as many as 50 million are injured. At the same time, the economic costs derived from traffic accidents are quite high, also the gross domestic product (GDP) of the world is 3% lost due to traffic accidents each year. It is easily to tell that traffic accidents will not only bring the injured but also affect global economy. Risk driving behavior is easy to cause traffic accidents. In order to identify risk behaviors, it is necessary to construct a driving behavior model. In the past, many teams have already collected risk driving behaviors in a real driving environment and build risk driving behavior models for verification. Collecting risk driving behaviors in real environment cost extremely high, in maintenance, and we believe that there is still considerable risk in collecting risk driving behaviors at any locations. In the past research, a novel driver identity verification system based on Gaussian Mixture Model’s driving behavior was proposed. The system constructs a simulated driving environment which collects the driver's wrist behavior data from a smartwatch. Due to the smartwatch based, it has the advantages of constructing simulation environment with low cost and strong portability also lots of risk driving behaviors are directly related to the wrist movements. These factors make it more suitable for collecting risk driving behaviors in this environment. However, no research has clearly pointed out the feasibility of using the simulated driving behavior prediction model to identify real driving behavior at present. Moreover, there are no precedents for effectively utilizing the simulated dangerous driving behavior model. Therefore, we expect this study to achieve: In other applications such as driver identification, the simulated driving behavior model can completely replace the real driving behavior model. With this concept, for all driving behaviors that do not conform to the normal road driving principles, such as: fatigue driving, drunk driving and other dangerous driving behavior, we can collect these dangerous driving behavior data through the simulated environment and apply it to identify dangerous driving behaviors in the real environment, thus providing a safer and more reliable dangerous driving discriminating mechanism in the market.

Abstract The space truss is mainly composed of bulbs and bars so as to form a superstable space structural body. The process of the analysis entirely hypothesize that bulbs are connected by a number of hinged or fixed joint; In fact, the behavior of the bulbs is between hinged and fixed joint. SAP90 provides the ability to analyze the hinged or fixed joint, but it can’t accurately predict the real behavior of the structural body. The reason is that we can’t afford SAP90 with the real fixed-joint degree of the bulbs. This experiment uses the result of the full scale to examine it. Furthermore, that can provide SAP90 with the reference at this experiment in the future. The range of the theme can mainly divided into two sections, the first section is real test, subdivided into real load test on space truss and ultimate failure test at the bulbs. Using the full scale body examine the elastic load test, in which we can measure load force and the stress and deformation after the system beared the test. The second section is using commercial software. Using SAP90 runs the numerical analysis in order to obtain the predictive data of the assumed load system at hinged or fixed joints. The research analyze the data from the test and SAP90 and wholly compares and judges them. Devoted to do a lot of tribute for the industrial field, it can provide the information to be the reasonable reference and more accurately predict the behavior of the real body behind the load force.

Taiwan has been entering an aging society, senior drivers’ population are increasing yearly. In order to resolve senior action problem, vehicle becomes one of important transportation tools. However, following the aging of seniors, driving reaction of physiological and psychological behaviors is declining such as hearing retrogression, reaction capability, memory, and attention. Therefore, safe driving becomes an important issue due to seniors’ body aging. This study is mainly to explore senior driving behaviors, software SPSS 12.0 for Windows used to analyze survey data, 400 questionnaires sent out and 368 were sent back. After statistical analysis, results showed that most senior drivers are male and they almost felt no problem to drive whenever to control a steering wheel and hand brake, to adjust a rear-view mirror, to back a car, or to park on a street. However, they felt uncomfortable both when to tie a safe belt and when to drive up and down the super highway. To sum up, this study showed that in order to meet senior drivers excellent driving quality, safe belt redesign may be needed and simple operational functions may also need to be considered and designed. In order to use to the complex traffic environments, this study also recommend that our senior drivers also need to change their driving habits such as to drive only a short distance, to drive not a busy time when driving in a super highway, and not to drive during the night time in order to ensure a comfortable and safe driving

To provide business travelers with convenient travel services through the issuance of ride tickets, which will help the growth of the taxi business. This paper analyzes the transaction records of commercial taxis and expects to analyze the transaction history of commercial taxis to provide strategies and suggestions for promotion of vehicle vouchers. In this study, a case study method was used to select the T-brand team with the largest market share in Taiwan taxi fleet as the research object. Collected approximately 670,000 sets of corporate ticket transactions for the T-brand fleet in 2016, 2017, and conducted a rider record analysis. The analysis was conducted in three orientations—enterprise introduction, corporate car use, and the use of boarding vouchers. This study finds that users who use vouchers most frequently use mobile phone APPs for taxi calls, which account for 64.89% of all taxi behaviors. The location of business users who use the ticket is Taipei City, which accounts for 73% of the imported company ticket. According to the analysis of business types, the number of imported hotels (40.6%), ticket usage (37.3%), and ridership (39.56%) for Type F (wholesale, retail, and catering) companies are all highest. The time slots for corporate users are concentrated at 09:00~17:00, and the peak time is at 13:00~15:00. The average take-up time is 11~15 minutes, which means that most enterprises mainly rely on short-term demand. This study finds that (1) the ratio of each type of T-brand consortium''s introduction of ticketing occupies less than 1% of the total number of companies in Taiwan, indicating that there is still much room for growth in the implementation of ticketing services. (2) The maximum car use time is from 13:00 to 15:00. Drivers can be encouraged to undertake tasks during this time to receive the application car crowd. (3) Integration with the enterprise ERP system and automatic transfer of employee ride records can help companies accelerate the internal travel expense reimbursement process.

Abstract:
abstract: Institutions of higher education, particularly those with large student enrollments, constitute special generators that contribute in a variety of ways to the travel demand in a region. Despite the importance of university population travel characteristics in understanding and modeling activity-travel patterns and mode choice behavior in a region, such populations remain under-studied. As metropolitan planning organizations continue to improve their regional travel models by incorporating processes and parameters specific to major regional special generators, university population travel characteristics need to be measured and special submodels that capture their behavior need to be developed. The research presented herein begins by documenting the design and administration of a comprehensive university student online travel and mode use survey that was administered at Arizona State University (ASU) in the Greater Phoenix region of Arizona. The dissertation research offers a detailed statistical analysis of student travel behavior for different student market segments. A framework is then presented for incorporating university student travel into a regional travel demand model. The application of the framework to the ASU student population is documented in detail. A comprehensive university student submodel was estimated and calibrated for integration with the full regional travel model system. Finally, student attitudes toward travel are analyzed and used as explanatory factors in multinomial logit models of mode choice. This analysis presents an examination of the extent to which attitudes play a role in explaining mode choice behavior of university students in an urban setting. The research provides evidence that student travel patterns vary substantially from those of the rest of the population, and should therefore be considered separately when forecasting travel demand and formulating transport policy in areas where universities are major contributors to regional travel.

The purpose of this study is to examine consumers’ preferences for study-travel and to compare relative importance of study-travel attributes which may influence their study-travel choice preference behavior, then find out its optimal combinations of con-sumers’ preferences by conjoint analysis method. Sixteen combinations of six study-travel attributes (weeks, location, expense, class, residential style, travel arrangement) where simulated. The respondents were asked to give a preference ranking to every al-ternative of these study-travel. The conjoint analysis model was estimated for the pref-erence ranking data. The most important attribute affecting study-travel choice behavior was the location of study-travel, followed by expense of study-travel, weeks of study-travel, travel arrangement of study-travel, and class of study-travel. Residential style of study-travel was the least important attribute. Using cluster analysis, the full respon-dents can be divided into four segments-‘location of study-travel’, ‘expense of study-travel’, ‘weeks of study-travel’, ‘travel arrangement of study-travel’.

Many reports are now available of clinical results with solid hydroxyapatite used for jaw augmentation, tooth replacement, bone substitution and middle ear reconstruction. Hydroxyapatite is a particularly attractive material for bone and tooth implants because its chemical and crystallographic properties closely resemble those of bone and tooth minerals, and the sintered material has superior compatibility with these tissues. The principal limitation of this material is that it is brittle and weak, which restricts the clinical orthopaedic and dental applications.Metal has received special attention, primarily because of its high strength and high resistance to fracture. The incorporation of metal into hydroxyapatite material may enhance its mechanical properties and will not affect its biocompatibility. Thus it is desirable to study the hydroxyapatite-metal composite materials. In the present paper sintering of hydroxyapatite and metal composite materials is reported.

According to the statistic data, a consumer who adopts to shop online perhaps will not shop repeatedly at the same website. To improve the financial performance, e-tailers must be concerned about how to keep consumers shopping at their e-tail sites? And why do consumers continue to shop at the same e-tail site? In the real world, retailers often try to increase consumers’ switching costs to enhance consumers’ loyalty. From the perspective of e-tailers, how to increase consumers’ perceived switching costs will be very important if switching costs can really affect repurchasing behaviors. This research focuses on the psychological and emotional switching costs which were often neglected before, and on the procedural switching costs which emerge from the flexible purchasing procedures online. Meanwhile, online purchasing self-efficacy, social bonds and the sense of virtual community which may affect the perceived switching costs are taken into account to explain the aforementioned questions in the research model. Empirical research is conducted through both online and printed questionnaires, using structural equation modeling to exam the relationships between latent variables. On the other hand, whether the e-tailers provide virtual communities will affect the perceived switching costs is also discussed in this research. The following is the result: 1. The higher the switching costs consumers perceived, the higher the probability they will repurchase at the same e-tailers. In addition, the psychological and emotional switching costs that affect consumers’ repurchasing behaviors are more significant than economical switching costs does. 2. When e-tailers establish social bonds with individual consumers more actively through personalized e-mails, greeting cards and two-way communications, it will lead to higher consumers’ perceived switching costs. The results suggest that consumers’ perceived switching costs indeed affect consumers’ repurchasing behaviors if they keep purchasing at the same e-tail sites. On the other hand, social bond strategies which adopted by the e-tailers are important factors to consumers’ perceived switching costs. From the significant effect between psychological and emotional switching costs and consumers’ repurchasing behaviors, it shows that the future researches can focus on consumers’ internal motives and needs and develop a more rounded measures for psychological and emotional switching costs.

The empirical and theoretical evidence of the efficient market hypothesis(EMH) has been challenged in the past two decades. Behavioural finance has developed as an approach to try to explain financial market anomalies from the EMH. Behavioural finance starts from the premise that in the real world investors do not follow the rational assumptions which underlie the EMH. Over-confidence explains the decision-making process and investment behavior in the most common concepts from behavioural finance. This study mainly investigates the behavioral factors of the Taiwan stock market investors. Based on scholar studies and other literature with regard to over-confidence, ask this study question: Taiwan stock market investors is whether there is overconfidence? This study, using a sample of Taiwan, investigates three over-confidence theories: Better than average effect, Self-attribution and the Familiarity. Our results support the previous studies which suggest that investors are overconfident.

Drapeability is one of the important parameters to evaluate the fabric static and dynamic behavior of fabric materials. With a view to the dangling movement of garments when put on human body, people have been so concerned about the drape of dresses, that they would use the dynamic drape as a criterion to evaluate the beauty of garment appearance. Dynamic drape property of fabric becomes a new request for varied garments with an advancing technology. In this study a self-designed dynamic drape instrument for fabric was employed to evaluate the static and dynamic drape behaviors of four natural-fiber woven fabrics, such as cotton, linen, silk, and wool fabrics. The topics were concentrated on 1) key physical properties of fabric drapeability, 2) fabric dynamic drape coefficient modeling, and 3) evaluation of drape node of fabric. In the respect of the fabric drape characteristics and their physical properties, a detailed discussion has been made on the relationships between the fabric static and dynamic drape coefficients. In addition, sixteen physical properties were established through correlation analysis on the basis of the KES System. The key physical parameters of static and dynamic drape coefficients of the fabrics have been selected by the stepwise regression method. Results show that the selected key physical parameters of different natural-fiber fabrics are not entirely the same, and that the static drape coefficient of a fabric is unable to show the behavior of dynamic fabric drape. In the study about the physical properties based on KES system, bending and shearing properties are important blocked property for the static and dynamic drape coefficient of the fabrics. A tangent partition method was used to divide the drape coefficient curve into four drape regions such as drape coefficient increment initial growth, fast growth, slow growth, and dynamic stable regions. The dynamic drape coefficient curves of the fabrics have been modeled. Result shows that the nonlinear logistic function is an optimal method for predicting dynamic drape coefficient curve of fabric. The study of the threshold of the peak and trough of the drape profile of fabric was found that at the rotating speed of 175 to 450 rpm, when the 1% confidence lower limit of drop-high mean value between the outward protrude and adjacent dent position, the fabric node number in consistency with the subjective and objective evaluation can be obtained. It means that the 0.30 cm distance between the outward protrude and adjacent dent position is the node threshold of the fabric drape profile. The faster the rotating speeds, the smaller the distance value will be, and so will the fewer the fabric node number.

The electronic commerce is growing rapidly over the whole world. During the last few years, many online auction sites spring up and become prevailing for consumers. Among the online auction sites, Yahoo!Kimo and eBay are the most popular ones in Taiwan. To get more understanding about the auction behavior, this study analyzes the consumer behavior of those who participate online auctions. This thesis categorizes the respondents into three types base on their expense of online shopping: the heavy users, the medium light users and those who never bid on line. The effort was made to explore the differences among the three groups of consumers. The results are expected to help policy makers and existing online sellers make better strategies for online auctions. To achieve the research purposes described above, an on-line questionnaire is designed to gather the attitudes and perspectives of consumers about their shopping behavior on the online auction sites. During the survey period, 485 responses to the questionnaire were obtained. After consistency controls and checks for completeness, 440 usable questionnaire results are used for the analysis. The methodologies used in this thesis include descriptive statistic, factor analysis, chi- square test, one-way ANOVA and Logit model. The main findings of this research are as followings: 1.The reasons why consumers participate online auctions are due to the cheap price, the easy comparison of prices, time-saving, and the availability twenty-four hours a day. 2.Provision of detail information regarding product description and procedures for making bid, as well as the comprehensive after-sell service may largely encourage consumers adopting online auction. 3.The heavy users: younger age, self-employment, spent more hours browse homepage per day, active orientation; The medium light users: higher education, save orientation; The never use users: older age, lower education, spend less hours browse homepage per day, not save orientation.

It is not easy to quantify the process of seed germination, or to describe the germination behavior. Some well-known distribution were used to detect the effect of temperature on germination. During some intervals of germination it seems that the germination rate and temperature have a linear relationship. Therefore, it is possible to obtain the cardinal temperatures ( the lowest ,the highest and the optimum temperature ) of seed germination by using regression procedure. However, the procedure of estimation of parameters is long and tedious. This paper presents an accelerated failure time model which can simplify the estimation of parameters and also can obtain the cardinal temperatures of seed germination. The experimental Monochoria seed germination data is used here. Weibull function、logistic function and the new approach of accelerated failure time model are used to analyze the temperature effect on the Monochoria seed germination. Results show that the estimated cardinal temperatures of the three approach are as follows. For Weibull function and Logistic function, the estimated lowest seed germination temperature are about 12℃ respectively. The ranges of the highest germination temperature are wider for both Weibull function 42-50℃ and logistic function 53-77℃. The estimated highest germination temperature is not reasonable in biological sense. The estimated optimum germination temperature is about 31℃. The results of cardinal temperatures estimated by using the accelerated failure time model are as follows. Assume the germination time in different distribution at the different percentage, the following results are obtained. The estimated lowest seed germination temperature is about 16℃. The estimated highest seed germination temperature is about 37℃. The estimated optimum seed germination temperature is about 30℃. The estimated cardinal temperatures are close to the experimental value 16- 38℃. Therefore, the accelerated failure time model is suggested for estimating the seed cardinal temperatures.

The senior citizen surveys over the years show that family transfer are decreased and instead of public transfer and life course transfer are increase. The financial support from adult children to their parents is a changing pattern of individual life-course transfer. Both altruism and exchange motivation affect parents’ transfer behavior. Why the main elderly financial resources become different? It is interesting to discuss on the parents’ transfer behavior. Therefore, fallows are the three purposes of this study. First, make effort to research on changing parents’ transfer behavior. Second, study on how social culture, generation and children gender affect parents’ transfer behavior. Third, discuss on the relative between assets transfer behavior and the old age income security, and living arrangement. The study utilize in-depth interviews method, and collected data from twenty parents that divided into three generations. Elderly generation is the parents who born before 1948, mid-aged generation is the parents who born from 1949-1958, meridian generation is the parents who born from 1959-1971。The findings suggest that the difference of the human capital investment between son and daughter disappear gradually. Although more parents of mid-aged and meridian generation divide estates without gender difference and their transfer behavior belong to father-son/daughter or husband-wife type. But the arrangement of the ancestral estate is difficult to change. Furthermore, the daughter’s responsibility to support their aged parents is increase. Because of the uncertainty of aged life, the elderly living arrangement is changed. Sons or daughters are no longer the only support of aged parents, also parents themselves are more important.

This research is addressing itself to the influence of insured’s borrowing behavior. It is in accordance with insured’s gender, age, income, marriage, religion and also the items of the Five Personal Characteristic Variables, which also called the Big-Five it has included extroversion, gentleness, extravagance, emotional stability and curious about new things on the insurance amount, loan amount, and debt amount. The research also shows that males have higher tendency to take policy loans than females; insured’s of the age between thirty-one and forty tend to have higher debt amount than others; as for their personal income, it has no obvious differences between the insurance amount, loan amount or the debt amount; as to marriage, the divorced insured have more willing to take policy loans; and the religion of insured shows nothing for the insurance amount, loan amount, and even the debt amount. Therefore, the Five Personal Characteristic Variables has an obvious conclusion to the insurance amount, loan amount, and the debt amount. When we thoroughly analyze the divorced females who are in age of forty to fifty and their incomes are more than 30,000 NTD, they have more desire to do loan, and the loan amount may be under 100,000 NTD or it might between 300,000 NTD to 400.000 NTD. In conclusion, the analysis of the Five Personal Characteristic Variables shows that insured’s borrowing behavior with the following characteristics tend to have debt. First, the one who is low-extroversion, second, person who always has indifferent attitude, third, person who is lazy and extravagant, fourth, the one who gets nervous easily and also ill-tempered, last, the one who prefers highly changeable or likes to take a chance on everything, especially new things.

The Bureau of National Health Insurance (BNHI) implements some policies, such as ‘drug price investigation’ and ‘hospital-based global budget’ in order to control the global budget expense and the fast growing of drug price. Therefore, hospitals will reduce the medical cost and drug expense actively or even ask pharmaceutical companies to cut down the drug price to against the income decreasing. Due to those factors, pharmaceutical companies are facing more difficult management position at this moment. Methods that pharmaceutical companies broaden sources of income are launching new drugs rapid, expending other indications of old drug and increasing market share of old drug. On the other hand, controlling the internal cost and external social expenses are the ways for reducing expenditure among pharmaceutical companies. However, drug development and long term clinical trial, even unpredictable launching regulatory application process of new drugs, or long time of clinical trial and regulatory application procedures for new indications of old drugs are approved slow by related department of government. And it is difficult to solve those different situations that pharmaceutical companies face on. Therefore, if doctors’ prescription behaviors can be well known, which will improve pharmaceutical companies to make more appropriate marketing strategies, then, expend market share, raise company profits and confront any environment trend impact. The motivation of this study is to investigate doctors’ prescription behaviors based on these reasons listed above. Furthermore, the result of this study may be providing more experience and marketing reference to other related pharmaceutical industry in the future. Objectives of this study include: To examine the influence on doctors’ drug evaluation based on different information sources, personalities and environment. To explore the influence on doctors’ drug evaluation and prescription behaviors. Boycotts are intriguing form of consumer behavior. They are unwelcome to marketers yet consistent with the marketing concept because firms targeted by a well-supported consumer boycott have filed to sustain a sufficient customer focus. Recently, consumers begin to pay attention to their own right in Taiwan. If they feel unsatisfactory with service or product of the company, they will use their “purchase votes” to refuse the firm and even spread out. The survey found that 51% of senior business managers cited boycotts as their top choice of the most effective techniques for the consumer movement to use. That is the reason that boycott becomes more common. Although boycotts occur increasingly, there has been little research of an individual consumer’s boycott decision. The business press agreed that boycotts were often successful and were occurring more frequently. There has been little research of the boycott but it is increasingly relevant for management decision making. It can’t be ignored that the influence on products and brands on boycott. In this research, I discuss how perceived egregiousness, make a different, self-enhancement, constrained consumption impact on boycott decision. Moreover, I take make a different, self-enhancement, constrained consumption as moderating variables to know how they play between perceived egregiousness and boycott decision. With 244 samples, we conduct data with multiple regression and ANOVA. As a result, I find that perceived egregiousness, self-enhancement, constrained consumption directly impacts boycott decision. Moreover, self-enhancement, constrained consumption are moderating variables between perceived egregiousness and boycott decision.

Customer switching behavior can give venomous effects on the profitability and competence of firms in today’s marketplace. Creating and maintaining customer loyalty has become a strategic effort in today’s service markets. But, researchers have argued that not all customers are equal and suggested that customers differ in their value to a firm. Firms should target the “right” customers who are likely to do business with over time. It is becoming necessary for them to have a good understanding of the difference on an individual level of their customer bases. The purpose of this study is to explore the difference of the effects of the switching behavior model among customer groups in the mobile telecom industry in Taiwan. In switching behavior, a firm’s customer base is thought to comprise two groups of customers: (1) customers who have switched from other service provider (whom we refer to as “switchers”) and (2) those who have not (the first-time adopters whom we refer to as “stayers”). The switcher can be further classified into two types: dissatisfied switchers and non-dissatisfied switchers. In consumer involvement, a firm’s customer base comprises two groups of customers, with low level of involvement and with high level of involvement, respectively. We build the switching behavior models in linear relationship with the independent variables: customer satisfaction, subjective norm, attitude, and perceived switching costs, to predict the dependent variables: switching intention, active loyalty, and passive loyalty, respectively. Using ANCOVA analysis, we found: (1) There is a linear relationship between network externality and perceived switching costs with significant different effects among customer groups. (2) There is a linear relationship between switching intention and the anticipants: customer satisfaction, subjective norm, attitude, and perceived switching costs, with significant different effects among customer groups. (3) There is a linear relationship between active loyalty and the anticipants: customer satisfaction, subjective norm, attitude, and perceived switching costs, with significant different effects among customer groups. (4) There are linear relationships between passive loyalty and the anticipants: customer satisfaction, subjective norm, attitude, and perceived switching costs, with significant different effects among customer groups.
