Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to gain insight into the experiences of former college football players upon exiting intercollegiate careers. The qualitative methodology of in-depth, dialogic interviewing was employed. Participants were 7 former NCAA Division I-A collegiate football players who completed their eligibility within the last 3 years and who were at least 8 months removed from collegiate competition. These participants were not under contract with any professional teams at the time of their interviews. Findings centered around the following themes: (a) the transition from high school to elite-level college football, and the change in the relationships participants had with their coaches; (b) the learning of behavior not positively transferable to the “real world”; (c) the power and control issues surrounding the major college football setting, and the manner in which participants perceived, and responded to, being controlled; and (d) the ways participants were experiencing posteligibility life.

Abstract:
If the culture of the cocoa in Côte d’Ivoire gives a great satisfaction concerning the production level, the quality of raw cocoa beans remains to be improved. One of the causes of this depreciation is the moulds development in beans. In order to identify responsible fungus, cocoa beens have been collected in the maine production areas which are the East, the Mid-West and the South-West, represented respectively by the localities of Abengourou, Oumé and Soubré. From collected beans, the fungus have been insulated and purified on PDA medium and then, they have been identified by observing their morphocultural and microscopic characteristics. The results show that 9 mushroom species belonging to 5 genera were identified in cocoa beans collected in the whole of the localities. There are Aspergillus, Penicillium, Fusarium, Curvularia and Streptomyces. Among them, the Aspergillus genus which is able to produce ochratoxine, was found with an appearance frequency of 86.30 %.

Abstract:
Effects of contact insecticides pirimifos-methyl and deltamethrin of Indian meal moth Plodia interpunctella Hbn. and Angoumois grain moth Sitotroga cerealella Oliv. in maize, and on bean weevil Acanthoscelides obtectus Say in beans were examined 6 and 18 months after treatment in laboratory environment. Using appropriate methods (EPPO and other), maize and bean were treated with recommended and double rates of the insecticide products: EC formulation of pirimifos-methyl and EC formulation and dust of deltamethrin. After 6 and 18 months, we examined the mortality of P. interpunctella larvae, and 5. cerealella and A. obtectus adults following 2,7 and 14 days of contact with the treated material. In Angoumois grain moth and bean weevil, the resulting progeny was monitored up to FI generation. Both insecticides achieved full mortality of P. interpunctella larvae on the 6-month-old deposit. On the 18-months-old deposit, the same result was achieved with deltamethrin dust (both rates), as well as with pirimifosmethyl and deltamethrin (EC formulation) at the double recommended rates. S. cerealella mortality was 100% for both insecticides and both deposit ages. Regarding A. obtectus, full mortality of adults was found after contact with pirimifos-methyl and deltamethrin dust, while deltamethrin liquid caused low mortality of bean weevil, especially the 18-months-old deposit. FI generation adults of Angoumois grain moth and bean weevil were found only on 18-months-old deposits of the recommended rates of deltamethrin dust and pirimifos-methyl. The tested contact insecticides can provide very long prevention and control of Indian meal moth and Angoumois grain moth in stored maize and bean weevil in stored beens.

Abstract:
Abstract. The Earth's electrical environment hosts a giant electrical circuit, often referred to as the global electric circuit (GEC), linking the various sources of electrical generators located in the lower atmosphere, the ionosphere and the magnetosphere. The middle atmosphere (stratosphere and mesosphere) has been traditionally believed to be passively transmitting electric fields generated elsewhere. Some observations have reported anomalously large electric fields at these altitudes, and the scientific community has had to revisit the earlier hypothesis time and again. At stratospheric altitudes and especially at low latitudes, horizontal electric fields are believed to be of ionospheric origin. Though measurements of these fields from a balloon platform are challenging because of their small magnitudes (around a few mV m−1), a suitably designed long-duration balloon experiment capable of detecting such small fields can provide useful information on the time evolution of ionospheric electric fields, which is otherwise possible only using radar or satellite in situ measurements. We present herein details of one such experiment, BEENS (Balloon Experiment on the Electrodynamics of Near Space), carried out from a low-latitude site in India. The instrument package for this experiment is comprised of four deployable booms for measurements of horizontal electric fields and one inclined boom for vertical electric field measurements, all equipped with conducting spheres at the tip. The experiment was conducted from Hyderabad (17.5° N, 78.6° E) during the post-midnight hours on 14 December 2013. In spite of a few shortcomings we report herein, a noticeable feature of the observations has been the detection of horizontal electric fields of ∼ 5 mV m−1 at the stratospheric altitudes of ∼ 35 km.

Abstract:
Four aspects of Brazilian Frontier Regions are emphasized: - their size, being part of a country of continental dimensions; - their tropical character; - their historical role as a valve for social tensions, in a country which for long presents very strong social inequalities.different modalities of frontier-regions, those which represent the technological development, the ones which represent the advance of the ecumene, the "interior frontier regions", and the regions located on the limitis of the country. The size of the country permited for decades the movement of the frontier line to the West, the advance of the ecumene. But inside the more developed Eastern parts of the country, some enclaves of less settled territories, appear recently as "interior frontier regions". During the 19th and part of the 20th century, tropical and subtropical forested areas of the frontier were the targets for timber and crops production, while the savannas and grasslands were dedicated to cattle rising. Later an inversion occured, production of cereals, like soya beens, developed in the savannas and grasslands, while cattle occupied deforested areas of the Amazon Region. The far frontier became also an important mineral producer and attracts tourism. The frontier was, in a some extent, a subsitute for an agrarian land reform, offering conditions for social vertical mobility. More recently, however, it is loosing this function, as capital investments are directed to cattle rising, mining and timber production. Political issues deal with the social relations between incomers and old populations in the frontier regions and with the environmental questions.

Abstract:
Between 2014 and 2019, a total of 361 commercially available Czech beer samples (103 brands) were analysed for gluten content using a competitive enzyme immunoassay. The gluten levels in different types of beers ranged from < 10 mg L–1 to 3 380.0 mg L–1. The percentage of samples that can claim the gluten-free status (< 20 mg L–1) were in categories gluten-free (99%), radler (84.6%), non-alcoholic beer (44.2%), lager beer group I (16.6%), lager beer group II (16.3%), special beer (25%) and wheat beer (0%). The important finding from this work was that 2 out of 196 beer samples with a gluten-free label contained more gluten than allowed under the guidelines established by the European Union and the Codex Alimentarius Standard. From a consumer point of view, it is also significant that in addition to gluten-free samples, 15.4% of radlers, 55.8% of non-alcoholic beers, 71.4 to 75.5% of all lagers and 66.6% of special beer samples could be labelled as very low gluten (21–100 mg L–1).

Abstract:
Aims: Glucose control is essential to slow disease progression in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The acute effects of dry bean consumption on glucose control are well established, but their long-term effects in daily diets are less known. Methods: The effect of daily consumption of ½ cup pinto beans, compared to ½ cup green beans, on fasting glucose, postprandial glucose and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) in adults with T2DM was examined. After a 2-week wash-in period, 13 participants were randomized to two 12-week long treatments: pinto beans and green beans. Before and after each intervention period, a fasted venous blood sample for glucose and HbA1c analyses was drawn. On 28 non-consecutive days, including the washin, participants kept diet records and measured capillary glucose using a glucometer 1 hour after the meal during which the treatments were consumed. Results: Eight participants completed both treatment periods. There were no statistically significant changes (p<0.05) in fasting glucose, HbA1c or average postprandial glucose values between the two interventions. Conclusions: Pinto beans and green beans result in comparable glycemic control when incorporated into the normal diet of adults with T2DM even though pinto beans have more available carbohydrate per serving.

Abstract:
I introduce and study dynamic persuasion mechanisms. A principal privately observes the evolution of a stochastic process and sends messages over time to an agent. The agent takes actions in each period based on her beliefs about the state of the process and the principal wishes to influence the agent’s action. I characterize the optimal persuasion mechanism and show how to derive it in applications. I then consider the extension to multiple agents where higher-order beliefs matter. (JEL D82, D83)
