In this work, we used a refined entropy sampling technique based on the Wang- Landau method and finite-size scaling techniques to study variations of the Baxter-Wu model, namely: spin-$1/2$, spin-$1$, spin-$1$ with the crystal field interaction and was done a three-dimensional proposal for the model. It was also verified characteristics in the order parameter to be adopted in the simulations. The universality class and the critical temperature were calculated for the spin-$1/2$ case, and the results founded were in good agreement with the exact ones found in the literature. We sought to determine the kind of the phase transition that the model suffers for the spin-$1$ case, being carried out a detailed study for continuous and discontinuous phase transitions. The Baxter-Wu model with crystal field, $D$, had its phase diagram constructed, as well as the determination of the point at which discontinuous transitions finalizes. The critical exponent, $\nu$, was evaluated for several values of the crystal field, where we verified is variation along the critical line, with the existence of a peak, corroborating the existence of a multicritic behavior of the model. We also observed the existence of an anomaly in the specific heat, associated to the Schottky defect. This anomaly appears more clearly for values of $D \geq 1.990$. In the study of the order parameter, we verified that in the simulations one should not, when considering lattice sizes multiple of three, use the order parameter as the total magnetization of the lattice, but to consider the magnetization by sub-lattices. When working with sizes of lattices that are not multiples of three, it is not a problem to adopt the order parameter as the total magnetization of the lattice. A three-dimensional proposal was also made for the Baxter-Wu model, and its phase transition was characterized.

Recently, unexpected connections have been discovered between characters of representations and lattice models in statistical mechanics. The bridge was first formed from Kuperberg's solution to the alternating sign matrix (ASM) conjecture. Kuperberg's proof of this conjecture, which enumerates ASMs, utilized a Yang-Baxter equation for a square ice model from statistical mechanics. In earlier work, Tokuyama and okada gave representation theoretic quantities as generating functions on certain symmetry classes of ASMs or generalizations of them. Brubaker, Bump, and Priedberg used a Yang-Baxter equation to reprove Tokuyama's result and this work seeks to do the same for a generalization of Okada's results in type B. We begin by defining the particular lattice model we study. We then imbue the lattice model with Boltzmann weights suggested by a bijection with a set of symmetric ASMs. These weights define a partition function, whose properties are studied by combinatorial and symmetric function methods over the next few chapters. This course of study culminates in the use of the Yang-Baxter equation for our ice model to prove that the partition function factors into a deformation of the Weyl denominator and a generalized character of a highest weight representation, both in type B. We conjecture that the resulting function is connected to metaplectic spherical Whittaker functions. In the last two chapters, we deal with two rather different approaches to computing Whittaker coefficients of metaplectic forms - one using a factorization of the unipotent radical to perform an integration and the other via Hecke operators on the metaplectic group.

Full textShort-time simulations have been used with great frequency in the literature. That technique was discovered by Li, Shülke and Zheng that, inspired in previous works by Huse and Janssen et al., showed that generalizations of quantities like magnetization and the Binder´s cumulant exhibit universal behavior in the beginning of the simulation (early time behavior). The study of criticality in short-times provides an alternative way to estimate the dynamic critical exponent z, besides allowing the calculation of a new dynamic exponent θ, associated to the anomalous behavior of the magnetization. In the same way, time-dependent simulations became a useful tool to study phase transitions in cellular automata and also for spin models. In fact, the best estimates for the exponent z of the two-dimensional Ising model were obtained through the technique of damage spreading, introduced by Kauffman in the study of cellular automata, later widespread for spin models. In the first part of this work we used short-time Monte Carlo simulations to investigate the Baxter-Wu model, defined in a triangular lattice whose variables are Ising-like coupled by triplet interactions. We have obtained estimates for the dynamic critical exponents z and θ besides static exponents ß e Nû. Our results do not corroborate recent estimates by Santos and Figueiredo for the critical exponent z. In the second part of this work, we investigated the damage spreading in the one-dimensional Ising model under two dynamics introduced by Hinrichsen and Domany (HD). In particular, we study the effects of synchronous (parallel) and asynchronous (continuous dynamics) updating on the spreading properties. We showed that the damage does not spread when the second dynamic is implemented in an asynchronous way. We found that the rules for updating the damage produced by this dynamic, as the temperature goes to infinity and a certain parameter Lambda is zero, are equivalent to those of Grassbergers well-known model A cellular automaton.

In this work we study the solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation associated to nineteen vertex models invariant by the parity-time symmetry from the perspective of algebraic geometry. We determine the form of the algebraic curves constraining the respective Boltzmann weights and found that they possess a universal structure. This allows us to classify the integrable manifolds in four different families reproducing three known models besides uncovering a novel nineteen vertex model in a unified way. The introduction of the spectral parameter on the weights is made via the parameterization of the fundamental algebraic curve which is a conic. The diagonalization of the transfer matrix of the new vertex model and its thermodynamic limit properties are discussed. We point out a connection between the form of the main curve and the nature of the excitations of the corresponding spin-1 chains.

Full textThis PhD thesis deals with the algebraic structure called non-commutative left brace, and with its applications for the non-degenerate set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation. Concretely, we study the following problems: (1) We construct all the non-degenerate set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation associated with a fixed non-commutative left brace. Moreover, we prove all the non-degenerate involutive solutions can be obtained from left braces with an analogous construction. These results are contained in Chapters 2 and 3. This reduces the problem of classification of non-degenerate set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation to the classification of non-commutative left braces, a problem that we study for the rest of the memoir. (2) In Section 4.1, we present two new methods to construct new left braces: extensions of left braces by trivial ideals, and matched product of left braces. These constructions are based on the analogous constructions of group theory. (3) Motivated by the extensions of left braces, in Section 4.2 we construct the first family of non-trivial simple left braces. We use the matched product method that we have defined previously to obtain this family. (4) Answering a question of Cedó, Jespers and del Río, we find the first exemple of finite p-group which is not the multiplicative group of any left brace. This proves that not all finite solvable groups are multiplicative groups of left braces. This results is contained in Section 4.3. (5) Finally, we classify all the left braces of order p, p^2 and p^3, where p is a prime. This result is contained in Section 4.4 and Chapter 5.

Full textIn this work, we study three topics related to the Yang-Baxter operator: endomorphism algebras and the q-trace, constructions of Yang-Baxter algebras and Yang-Baxter coalgebras, quantum SB_\inftyS-algebras, and quantum quasi-shuffle algebras. They are the quantizations of the corresponding objects in the sense that the usual flip is replaced by a braiding. This work is divided into three chapters. Chapter 1 : Let S(V,\sigma)S be a braided space with a braiding S\sigmaS of Hecke type and such that S\dim S_\sigma^i(V)=lS for some sufficiently large i. We study thé endomorphism algebra S\oplus_{k=l }^i EndS_\sigma^k(V)S. After defining three associative products on this space, we construct a q-analogue of the usual trace, called q-trace, for any endomorphism of SS_\sigma^k(V)S. This new trace is an algebra morphism with respect to the third product. And we show that this q-trace is just the quantum trace up to some scalar. Chapter 2: We introduce several methods to construct Yang-Baxter (or short for YB) algebras and Yang-Baxter coalgebras. They include: Yetter-Drinfel'd modules with extra compatible conditions, quantum-shuffle algebras and quantum SB_\inftyS-algebras. Quantum SB_\inftyS-algebras are generalizations of both YB algebras and SB_\inftyS-algebras. We also introduce 2-YB algebras, which are motivated by the work of Loday and Ronco, to provide quantum SB_\inftyS-algebras. Chapter 3: Using the tool of quantum SB_\inftyS-algebras, we quantize quasi-shuffle algebras in the spirit of Rosso's quantum shuffle algebras. We study various properties of these quantum quasi-shuffle algebras. For instance, the universal property, the commutativity and so on
