Abstract:
- Aim of the study was to investigate the emotional experience in everyday life, considering both the subjective aspect and the physiological components. The subjective experience has been collected by a diary, while the physiological component were measured by a holter. The analysis of the subjective experiences showed that the families of emotion most frequently experienced were: joy, anger, fear and sadness and there was a balance between positive and negative emotions. Furthermore there was a significative relation between specific emotions and specific antecedents, with a prevalence of social antecedent. A multivariate analysis of the subjective and physiological data showed specific patterns for the different emotions and a coherence between subjective response and the physiological component of the sympathetic system.Parole chiave: emotions, everyday life, psychophysiology, heart rateParole chiave: emozioni, vita quotidiana, psicofisiologia, battito cardiaco

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Shot execution in cricket batting is reliant on intricate movement patterns of crucial body segments. When there is a substantial amount of batting movement data available, supervised machine learning can be used to classify when a batting shot execution takes place in a cricket batting cycle. An automated approach to identify and assess cricket batting could be useful for the applications including performance evaluation, talent identification and injury prevention. Current evaluation of movements and shot execution are generally undertaken in an artificial environment with camera-based, motion tracking systems to collect batting movement data, which require careful preparation, data collection and post-processing, and risk changing the natural gameplay of a batsman. By training a model based on data obtained from a close representation of a cricket batting innings, supervised machine learning was found to be capable of reliably predicting cricket batting shot execution.

Abstract This study aimed to examine the effects of batting practice and visual training focused on the pitch type and speed on batting ability and visual function. A total of 46 participants took part in 12 training sessions for 4 weeks. The participants were divided into six groups according to the training type as follows: Group 1, batting practice with a fastball at 100 km/h; Group 2, tracking (watching) a fastball at 100 km/h; Group 3, batting practice with a fastball at 115 km/h; Group 4, tracking a fastball at 115 km/h; Group 5, batting practice with a curve ball at 100 km/h; and Group 6, tracking a curve ball at 100 km/h. Dynamic visual acuity, depth perception, hand-eye coordination, and batting ability were measured before and after training. Group 1 showed significant improvement in batting ability in the tests with 100 km/h fastballs and curve balls, while Groups 3 and 5 showed significant improvement in batting ability with 100 km/h fastballs and curve balls, respectively. Group 6 also showed significant improvement in batting ability with 100 km/h fastballs. Moreover, Groups 2 and 4 showed significant improvement in Dynamic visual acuity and hand-eye coordination, respectively. The results of the present study suggest that batting practice and visual training improve batting ability for the same pitch types and speeds as those encountered in practice. Therefore, visual training may be an effective method for improving batting ability and visual function in coaching settings.

Abstract:
Abstract Batting is a major component in the game of Cricket. Batting is collecting value by hitting the ball and holding the ball and running to swap places with other runners, and if the ball hits the stump then the batsman is declared out. This study discusses the analysis of batting techniques in the game of Cricket U-17 beginner athletes in DKI Jakarta. The subjects in this study were novice athletes from Jakarta U-17 athletes, who were junior high and high school students who had just joined the cricket team. The method in this research uses descriptive qualitative research. With a sample of 60 athletes who are members of the Jakarta U-17 beginner athletes. The results showed that, it showed that the category of batting training facilities and infrastructure for U-17 athletes in DKI Jakarta was 86.04% on average. These results illustrate that batting facilities and infrastructure are in very good category. Furthermore, in the category of results of the application of batting training for U-17 athletes in DKI Jakarta, it shows that the average is 74.94%. These results illustrate that the application of batting in the category is good and the results of batting for U-17 athletes in DKI Jakarta show that the average is 53.36%. These results illustrate that the batting in the category is sufficient. The results of field observations and analysis in the Batting Cricket exercise are explained as follows: 1) The results of the training that are not optimal are a form of not being properly absorbed by the Batting exercises performed by the coach. 2) The need to adjust the training program adopted from outside as well as the training model and media used in training, to suit the characteristics of the athlete. 3) Batting is the main component for all Cricket athletes. So every beginner athlete in DKI Jakarta U-17 Cricket must master the maximum technique of Batting Cricket.

Abstract:
The effects of batting feedback on motivational factors and batting of young baseball players were investigated. Hypotheses were that, compared to participants receiving feedback or no feedback on their batting average, those receiving contact average would exhibit (a) a greater increase in batting efficacy, (b) more enjoyment, satisfaction, and persistence, and (c) superior batting performance. Participants were 78 children from nine teams. Although analyses did not support the hypotheses, performance-to-efficacy correlations as well as other data provided tentative evidence for the premise that contact average may be more appropriate feedback for young players because (compared to batting average) it is less ambiguous and is based on a more realistic definition of success. Limitations and implications for coaches were discussed.

Abstract:
Scanty studies on physiological demands and movement characteristics to predict batting performance in comparative T20 cricket matches seem to be a fetus of seeds yet to be explored. A pilot study was carried out to explore the relationship between physical and physiological responses with the batting performance of sub elite T20 upper order batsmen and also the effect of batting innings on their performance. Twenty male batsmen who represented at district level (age: 20.0±2.4years, height: 1.68±0.58m, body mass: 63.6±7.6kg) and played in the upper order (1-4) were purposely selected and alienated according to batting innings. Key performance indicators of batting indicate that an individual score is significantly correlated (p=<0.001) with running between the wickets. The study revealed a significant correlation (p=0.02) between the individual score and average heart rate. Also, an ‘inverted U’ shaped trend line was observed between the individual score (y) and the average heart rate (x) (y = -0.09x2 + 1.38x + 7.27 with R² = 0.33). The moderate to high heart rate (126-157 bpm) zone was found to be effective for scoring at least 30 runs. Batting innings had no significant influence on upper-order batsmen's physical, physiological, and batting performance metrics. During batting, most of the time was spent while standing, most of the distance was covered by walking, and average heart rate of the batsmen was in the moderate to high-intensity zone.

The purpose of this study was to examine whether visual-field size differed between female Division I collegiate fast-pitch Softball players and female college students who were nonathletes. The relationship between visual-field size and batting performance among the softball players was also examined. 24 female undergraduate students (12 varsity fast-pitch softball players and 12 nonathletes) participated. The size of the visual field was measured via manual kinetic perimetry, and batting performance was assessed using a batting-skill test as well as batting averages for an entire competitive season. Analyses indicated that the mean visual-field size of softball players was significantly larger than that of nonathletes. However, there was no relationship between visual-field size and batting performance among the softball players. Results are discussed with respect to the origin of the superiority of visual-field size of softball players.

Abstract:
Cricket is a popular international team sport with various game formats ranging from long-duration multiday tests to short-duration Twenty20 game play. The role of batsmen is critical to all game formats, with differing physiological demands imposed during each format. Investigation of the physiological demands imposed during cricket batting has historically been neglected, with much of the research focusing on bowling responses and batting technique. A greater understanding of the physiological demands of the batting role in cricket is required to assist strength and conditioning professionals and coaches with the design of training plans, recovery protocols, and player-management strategies. This brief review provides an updated synthesis of the literature examining the internal (eg, metabolic demands and heart rate) and external (eg, activity work rates) physiological responses to batting in the various game formats, as well as simulated play and small-sided-games training. Although few studies have been done in this area, the summary of data provides important insight regarding physiological responses to batting and highlights that more research on this topic is required. Future research is recommended to combine internal and external measures during actual game play, as well as comparing different game formats and playing levels. In addition, understanding the relationship between batting technique and physiological responses is warranted to gain a more holistic understanding of batting in cricket, as well as to develop appropriate coaching and training strategies.

Abstract:
The prediction of yearly batting averages in Major League Baseball is a notoriously difficult problem where standard errors using the well-known PECOTA (Player Empirical Comparison and Optimization Test Algorithm) system are roughly 20 points. This paper considers the use of ball-by-ball data provided by the Statcast system in an attempt to predict batting averages. The publicly available Statcast data and resultant predictions supplement proprietary PECOTA forecasts. With detailed Statcast data, we attempt to account for a luck component involving batting averages. It is anticipated that the luck component will not be repeated in future seasons. The two predictions (Statcast and PECOTA) are combined via simple linear regression to provide improved forecasts of batting average.

Abstract:
Objectives: Ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction (UCLR) is a common procedure in professional baseball position players. Timing of return to hitting following UCLR is unknown. The purpose of this study was to determine the time to return to batting milestones after UCLR as well as the effect of UCLR upon batting performance in professional baseball players. The authors’ hypothesized that position players would return to batting in an in-season game prior to fielding in an in-season game and hitting performance would remain unchanged following UCLR Methods: All professional position players who underwent UCLR between 2010-2018 were included. Time to batting milestones following UCLR was analyzed. Batting performance before and after UCLR was compared and analyzed. Results: Overall, 141 UCLRs (96% performed on the dominant arm) in 137 position players were included (86% minor leaguers). Four players underwent revision, all within one year of the primary UCLR. With regard to position, catchers and shortstops were over-represented. With regard to batting side, 57% batted from the right and 12% batted as switch-hitters, and thus 76% of surgeries were on the lead arm. While 91% of players were able to return to any throwing at all, there was a progressive gradual decline during the rehabilitation progress such that 77% were able to return to hitting in a real game and 75% were able to return to fielding in a real game. The first dry swing occurred at 150±49 days after surgery, first batting practice occurred at 195±58 days after surgery, and first hitting in a real game occurred at 323±92 days after surgery. However, players generally saw a decrease in their utilization, with fewer at bats (p<0.001) translating into fewer hits (p<0.001) and runs (p<0.001). Conclusion: Professional position players begin swinging at 150 days following UCLR while they do not hit batting practice until 195 days and do not hit in a real game until 323 days following UCLR. Players saw a decrease in hitting utilization following UCLR. [Figure: see text]

Major League players were significantly more accurate in performing stereophotometry than were Minor League players. The stereophotometric data based upon the induction and extinction thresholds of the Pulfrich phenomenon were significantly correlated with the batting averages of Major League baseball players. The coefficient of determination, r2, implies that visual ability as measured by stereophotometry accounts for 47% or more of the variation in batting averages of the Major League players. This test may be a useful index in predicting batting ability.

Abstract:
This paper studies the remote evaluation system of tennis batting action standard based on acceleration sensor, which aims to help improve the standard degree and technical level of tennis batting action. The system includes a data acquisition module to collect original signal data of tennis batting action by the acceleration sensor signal acquisition device in the bracelet and upload to the personal computer (PC) for storage, data preprocessing module to smooth original signal data and extract the key time and frequency domain features as the evaluation basis, and remote evaluation module to assess tennis batting action standard. We applied our system to five tennis trainees from the experimental university, and the results show that the batting action standard level of student c and student e is lower. Student c is weak mainly in the best position of the hitting point and the timing of the lead shot, while student e mainly shows poor performance in the timing of movement and the stability of the overall center of gravity. Compared with the proposed system or device, our system has a short real-time delay under the concurrent use of different types of users indicating stable and high real-time evaluation performance. More importantly, our system strictly protects the user’s privacy when uploading the user’s data remotely. In short, the evaluation results obtained by our system can be used as a scientific basis to improve the tennis batting action standard.

Abstract:
Abstract In baseball, every play on the field is quantitatively evaluated and the statistics have an effect on individual and team strategies. The weighted on base average (wOBA) is well known as a measure of a batter’s hitting contribution. However, this measure ignores the game situation, such as the runners on base, which coaches and batters are known to consider when employing multiple hitting strategies, yet, the effectiveness of these strategies is unknown. This is probably because (1) we cannot obtain the batter’s strategy and (2) it is difficult to estimate the effect of the strategies. Here, we propose a new method for estimating the effect using counterfactual batting simulation. The entire framework consists of two phases: (i) generate a counter-factual batter’s ability based on their actual performances and (ii) simulate games with the batting simulator. To realize (i), we propose a deep learning model that transforms batting ability when batting strategy is changed. This method can estimate the effects of various strategies, which has been traditionally difficult with actual game data. We found that, when the switching cost of batting strategies can be ignored, the use of different strategies increased runs. When the switching cost is considered, the conditions for increasing runs were limited. Our results suggest that players and coaches should be careful when employing multiple batting strategies given the trade-offs thereof. We also discuss practical baseball use-cases to use this simulation.

Abstract:
Twenty20 cricket and batting in particular have remained vastly understudied to date. To elucidate the effects of batting on the batter, tools which replicate match play in controlled environments are essential. This study describes the development of two Twenty20 batting simulations, for a high and low strike rate innings, generated from retrospective analysis of international and domestic competition. Per delivery analysis of probabilities of run-type and on/off-strike denomination produce ball-by-ball simulations most congruent with retrospective competitive innings. Furthermore, both simulations are matched for duration and dictated through audio files. The `high' strike rate innings requires a batter to score 88 runs from 51 deliveries, whereby 60 runs are from boundaries. Similarly, the `low' strike rate innings requires a batter to score 61 runs from 51 deliveries, where 27 runs are scored from boundaries. Because batting simulations dictate run scoring outcomes, a method of quantifying a batter's performance from bat-ball contact scores is described. Ten elite batters achieved a mean performance score of 72 (SD = 26) and 88 (21) for the low and high strike rate simulations respectively. This study provides sport practitioners with a training technique to improve specific skill acquisition and enables research in understudied Twenty20 batting.

Abstract:
Background: Ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction (UCLR) is a common procedure in professional baseball position players. Timing of return to hitting after UCLR is unknown. Purpose/Hypothesis: The purpose was to determine the time to return to batting milestones after UCLR as well as the effect of UCLR upon batting performance in professional baseball players. The hypothesis was that position players would return to batting in an in-season game before fielding in an in-season game, and hitting performance would remain unchanged after UCLR. Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: All professional position players who underwent UCLR between 2010 and 2018 were included. Time to batting milestones after UCLR was analyzed. Batting performance before and after UCLR was compared and analyzed. Results: Overall, 141 UCLRs (96% performed on the dominant arm) in 137 position players were included (86% Minor League players). Four players underwent revision, all within 1 year of the primary UCLR. With regard to position, catchers and shortstops were overrepresented. With regard to batting side, 57% batted from the right and 12% batted as switch-hitters. Of the surgeries, 76% were on the trail/back arm. While 91% of players returned to some form of throwing, there was a progressive gradual decline as the rehabilitation process progressed, as only 77% were able to return to hitting in a real game and 75% were able to return to fielding in a real game. The first dry swing occurred at 150 ± 49 days after surgery, the first batting practice occurred at 195 ± 58 days after surgery, the first hitting in a real game occurred at 323 ± 92 days after surgery, and the first fielding in a real game occurred at 343 ± 98 days after surgery. However, players generally saw a decrease in their utilization, with fewer at bats ( P < .001) translating into fewer hits ( P < .001) and runs ( P < .001). Conclusion: Professional position players begin swinging at 150 days (approximately 5 months) after UCLR, while they do not hit in batting practice until 195 days (approximately 6.5 months) and do not hit in a real game until 323 days (approximately 10.7 months) after UCLR. Players see a decrease in hitting utilization after UCLR. On average, players hit in a real game 20 days before fielding in a real game.

Abstract:
The high level of fluctuating demand for products that consumers want, makes companies need to have a demand estimation or forecasting tool. PT. Satria Abadi is a manufacturing company engaged in the leather tanning process. Leather processed by PT. Adi Satria Abadi consists of two types of leather, namely goat skin (Goat Cabretta and Goat Batting) and sheep skin (Sheep Cabretta and Sheep Batting). In the tanning process, PT. Adi Satria Abadi sometimes encounters several obstacles, one of which is insufficient raw materials. This is because there has not been an estimate of the need for raw materials for the production process to fulfil demand. To deal with these obstacles, it is necessary to estimate the need for raw materials for the type of Sheep Cabretta Leather and Sheep Batting Leather so that there is no shortage of raw materials that can hinder the leather tanning production process. Based on the pattern of demand for raw materials, Sheep Cabretta Leather and Sheep Batting Leather are included in a random or fluctuating demand pattern. Therefore, the method used to predict the need for raw materials is Single Exponential Smoothing with 0.1 to 0.9. From the results of the calculation of forecasting accuracy, it was found that the smallest MSE value lies in the results of forecasting with the Single Exponential Smoothing method with an alpha value of 0.7 of 44560919259, while in sheep Batting Leather, it also lies in the Single Exponential Smoothing forecasting with an alpha of 0.7 with an MSE value amounting to 31462955201. Therefore, the need for raw materials for the type of Sheep Caretta Leather for June based on forecasting calculations using the Single Exponential Smoothing method with an alpha value of 0.7 is 964,878.62 SF, while for the need for raw materials for the type of Sheep Batting Leather is 989,018.39 SF.

Abstract:
Cricket batting is a complex movement which can be broken down into a number of components such as the grip, stance, initial movement, backlift, downswing and followthrough. The batting backlift technique (BBT) is an important component of the overall batting technique, when the batsman lifts the bat in preparation for the downswing when impact is made with the ball. Research has demonstrated that the BBT appears to be a key contributing factor to successful batsmanship. For the purpose of this study, video footage of players from the Indian Premier League (IPL) season was analysed (n = 30). This was used to identify the type of BBT employed by the batsmen at the moment the bowler released the ball. The number of players using a lateral batting backlift technique (LBBT) (n = 27) was significantly greater than those using a straight batting backlift technique (SBBT) (χ2 = 19.2, df = 1, p < 0.001). The results showed that 90% of the top performing IPL batsmen during the 2016 season did not adopt the traditionally taught SBBT. Instead, they adopted a more looped action in which the movement of the bat at the moment the bowler released the ball was in the direction of the slips (i.e.: the fielders positioned at an angle behind the batsmen). From this study, it can be postulated that a LBBT is a key contributing factor for batting success, at least in the shorter version of the game, as represented by T20 cricket. It is suggested that in order to score at a rapid rate, as required in T20 games, a LBBT is more effective for batsmen (particularly for presenting an open face of the bat), whereas a SBBT, which is a more a defensive action, may be more suitable for use in the more extended Test match version of the game.

Abstract:
The relationship between age and the level of performance of major league baseball players was assessed through quasi-experimental designs. Whereas cross-sectional comparisons revealed no differences in batting and fielding statistics between younger and older players, longitudinal analysis showed significant decrements in batting performance as players aged from 30 to 35 years. A decline in performance with age was found even among elite players. Age decrements in achievement need to be studied not only in the context of molar measures such as batting statistics but also at a microanalytic level through reference to component skills. This paper outlines a methodology that can be used in assessing the nature and basis of age decrements in skilled athletic performance.

Abstract:
Anecdotal evidence from players and coaches indicates that cognitive processing (e.g., expectations about the upcoming pitch) plays an important role in successful baseball batting, yet this aspect of hitting has not been investigated in detail. The present study provides experimental evidence that prior expectations significantly influence the timing of a baseball swing. A two-state Markov model was used to predict the effects of pitch sequence and pitch count on batting performance. The model is a hitting strategy of switching between expectancy states using a simple set of transition rules. In a simulated batting experiment, the model provided a good fit to the hitting performance of 6 experienced college baseball players, and the estimated model parameters were highly correlated with playing level.

Abstract Occultism has been present in popular music since the 1960s, but genuine occult content has been lacking in chart-topping bands, relegating more serious interactions between esoteric message and music to underground phenomena. An exception to this trend is Franco Battiato, who has sold in excess of three million records, one million of his masterpiece, La Voce del Padrone (The Voice of the Master, 1981), alone. This article analyses Battiato’s method of communicating occult lore through coded words, which couch esoteric meaning in exoteric forms of expressions. The article provides a substantial analysis of Battiato’s career, including his spiritual research through the works of Sufi masters, René Guénon and, especially, the teachings of the Armenian mystic G.I. Gurdjieff. Through a textual analysis of Battiato’s lyrics of his most mystical works (1979–1982), I aim to identify the Italian songwriter’s hidden references to the works of Gurdjieff and his disciple P.D. Ouspensky, proving that Battiato represents a rare case of a pop musician whose works are informed by occult knowledge, and who wants to communicate this hidden lore to listeners.

Abstract:
Abstract There has been an extensive amount of research into the batting elements of cricket. However, there is limited research specifically on the batting backlift technique (BBT). Therefore, this review aims to provide an understanding and consensus of the BBT in cricket at varied skilled levels. A PRISMA flow chart revealed 38 studies that were reviewed (both coaching and scientific literature), which reported on the backlift in cricket. The databases searched were PubMed, Google Scholar, the Cochrane Library and Sabinet. This review shows that the lateral batting backlift technique (LBBT) is a likely contributing factor to successful batsmanship at all levels of cricket ability (junior, adolescent, semi-professional, professional, international and former elite/successful cricketers). It was also found that coaching a LBBT to young batsmen may be challenging to teach, and therefore, further coaching models should be developed to assist cricket coaches. As much as a LBBT may be a contributing factor for success, there is still a need to answer a number of questions through further in-depth biomechanical investigations and through interventions that are more meticulous. A way forward for further research in this area of cricket batting is documented at the end of the review.

Abstract:
To achieve human-level object manipulation capability, a robot must be able to handle objects not only with prehensile manipulation, such as pick-and-place, but also with nonprehensile manipulation. To study nonprehensile manipulation, we studied robotic batting, a primitive form of nonprehensile manipulation. Batting is a challenging research area because it requires sophisticated and fast manipulation of moving objects and requires considerable improvement. In this paper, we designed a batting system for dynamic manipulation of a moving ball and proposed several algorithms to improve the task performance of batting. To improve the recognition accuracy of the ball, we proposed a circle-fitting method that complements color segmentation. This method enabled robust ball recognition against illumination. To accurately estimate the trajectory of the recognized ball, weighted least-squares regression considering the accuracy according to the distance of a stereo vision sensor was used for trajectory estimation, which enabled more accurate and faster trajectory estimation of the ball. Further, we analyzed the factors influencing the success rate of ball direction control and applied a constant posture control method to improve the success rate. Through the proposed methods, the ball direction control performance is improved.
