Abstract:
In literature, four models incorporating strain rate and temperature effects are able to generalize material test results of HY-100 steel. This study compares the four models, namely, Litonski-Batra, power law, Johnson-Cook, and Bodner-Partom, in finite element modeling of orthogonal machining of this material. Consistency is found in cutting forces, as well as in stress and temperature patterns in all but the Litonski-Batra model. However, the predicted chip curls are inconsistent among the four models. Furthermore, the predicted residual stresses are substantially sensitive to the selection of material models. The magnitudes, and even the sign of the residual stresses in machined surfaces, vary with different models.

Abstract:
Bangladesh has been divided into 30 Agro ecological Regions (AEZ). Agricultural research, and technology generation and transfer activities have been carried out on this basis. In context of the lack of enough information on different forms of potassium in the soils of the 30 AEZ, an attempt was made to study different forms of potassium of important soils of Bangladesh. As a part of this attempt, an experiment with ten soil samples representing nine different soil series (two of Gopalpur series and one each of Sara, Ishurdi, Ghior, Batra, Sukdebpur, Kumarkhali, Pakuria and Mehendigonj) of the AEZ-12, Low Ganges River Floodplain, was carried out in the Laboratory of the Department of soil science, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh to find out the different forms of potassium. The highest value of water soluble potassium (0.08 cmol (+) K g-1) was obtained in Mehendiganj soil series and the lowest value (0.05 cmol (+) K g-1) was obtained in Gopalpur-1, 2 and Ishurdi soil series. The highest amount of exchangeable K (0.29 cmol (+) K g-1) was found in Batra soil series while the lowest (0.13 cmol (+) K g-1) in Gopalpur-1 soil series. The highest amount of available K (0.35 cmol (+) K g-1) was found in both Batra and Mehendiganj soil series while the lowest (0.18 cmol (+) K g-1) in Gopalpur-1 soil series. Considering 0.12 cmol (+) K g-1 as critical limit (BARC, 2012), all soils had available K above the critical level. The highest amount of non-exchangeable K (4.05cmol (+) K g-1) was found in Ghior soil series, while the lowest (2.52 cmol (+) K g-1) was in Mehendiganj soil series. Abstract:
This article examines the connection between the stylistic structure and the content of a five-story cluster in the Babylonian Talmud on Bava Batra 151a–b. We point out that in the first story, there are two judges (dayanim), R. Bibi Bar Abaye and R. Huna, son of R. Yehoshua, while in the other four stories, there is only one judge (dayan), R. Naḥman. An important question we seek to elucidate is why the redactor of the sugya chose the first story rather than a similar story that appears in tractate Ketubot (78b–79a), wherein R. Naḥman is the only judge, as in the other four stories in the five-story cluster under study. Given its similar content, the story in Ketubot would appear to be a better fit with the cluster of stories in Bava Batra. This article seeks to show that this five-story cluster expresses a thought-provoking process of redaction, in terms of both the chronological sequence of the generations of characters it portrays and the content of the stories. While the cluster may have originally included four stories, the first story was likely added in a later redaction. This addition gave a chiastic structure of five stories to the cluster. Describing the chiasmus, we suggest that its formation was indeed a consideration of the redactor of the sugya.

AbstractFine clay, coarse clay, and silt fractions of four Bangladesh soils were studied using XRD, ion exchange, and selective dissolution techniques. Constants for the XRD intensity-weight proportion relationships were derived using these techniques. Smectite and mica were found to be dominant in Batra and Ghior soils, whereas kaolinite and mica were dominant in the Naraibag and Ghatail soils. Other minerals present were vermiculite, vermiculite with hydroxyaluminium interlayers, chlorite, randomly interstratified chlorite-mica, feldspar, quartz, and trace amounts of amphibole. The amorphous material content varied between 1 and 11% and decreased with increasing particle size. No crystalline iron oxides were detected in untreated clay fractions.

Abstract:
Tais resultados corroboram com importantes estudos destacando Batra, Kaufmann e Stone (2003), Wang e You (2012) e Jiang e Nie (2014).

ABSTRACT Since a long time scrofuloderma (SCF) was thought to be a common disease of childhood and was attributable to Myco bacterium tuberculosis. In 1951, a new entity nontuberculous scrofuloderma was described and it is caused by atypical mycobacteria namely Mycobacterium scrofulaceum. The clinical picture closely mimics tuberculous scrofuloderma but diagnosis should be established through culture isolation and identification, because drug susceptibility may be different in these cases. In this article, we report a case of a 22-year-old pregnant female patient who presented to us with scrofulaceous lesion on the right side of neck. Abstract:
Abstract Background The distal radius fracture (DRF) is the most common fracture in adults. For unstable intra-articular fractures, the choice of treatment is often operative. The optimal choice of fixation remains a matter of discussion. Question/Purpose Can combined volar and dorsal plating, using a dorsal frame plate, achieve a good functional and radiographic 1-year outcome in intra-articular DRFs? Methods In a retrospective cohort study, we evaluated 74 consecutive patients operated with combined plating using a volar plate and a dorsal frame plate. The DRFs were operated between 2016 and 2017 and all cases were AO type C intra-articular fractures. The primary outcome was patient-reported outcome measures including radiographic examination 1 year postoperatively. Secondary outcome measures included wrist range of motion, visual analog scale (VAS) pain scores, and hand grip strength. Results The median patient-rated wrist evaluation score was 18 points; the quick disabilities of the arm, shoulder, and hand score was 14.8 points. The median Batra radiographic score was 88. Wrist extension was 76% of the uninjured side, flexion was 74%, pronation was 94%, and supination was 94%. VAS pain scores were 0 at rest and 2 during activity. Hand grip strength was 82% compared with the uninjured side. The radiographic outcome according to Batra did not correspond to the patient-reported outcome. Patients older than 60 years had significantly better QuickDASH (quick disabilities of the arm, shoulder, and hand) and PRWE scores (patient-rated wrist evaluation scores) and less pain during activity compared with younger patients despite similar radiographic outcome. There were no tendon ruptures; hardware removal was performed in 21 of the 74 patients. Conclusion The radiographic outcome did not correspond to the functional outcome 1 year postoperatively. Older patients report less pain and better functional outcome compared with younger patients. There were no tendon ruptures and the frequency of hardware removal was acceptable. Complex intra-articular DRFs AO type C can be managed with volar and dorsal frame-plate fixation to restore distal radius anatomy and achieve a good functional outcome.

Abstract:
Bavli Baba Batra 10b–11a substantiates the existence of a “Jewish-Christian conversation” that took place in fourth-century Mesopotamia. This essay demonstrates that this sugya presents rabbinic responses to several Christian claims: (1) contra Aphrahat, God and Israel have a continuing and uniquely close relationship; (2) contra Aphrahat, Gentile charity is motivated by the desire for self-aggrandizement, the continuation of Gentile rule, and arrogance, and is thus sinful; (3) contra Aphrahat, Gentile charity is sinful because they only engage in it to revile Israel; moreover, Gentile charity does not atone for their sins; and (4) contra Aphrahat (who quotes Ezek. 15:4 and Isa. 58:11), it is not the Jews who will be dried out and burned up with fire; once Gentile charity ceases, it is the Gentile empires who will burn.

Abstract:
Monilinia vaccinii-corymbosi is the cause of mummy berry disease of commercial blueberries (Vaccinium spp.) grown in the United States and Canada (1). Ovaries of blueberry flowers are infected by the conidia (asexual spores) of this pathogen. However, despite their importance in disease initiation, little is known of the ultrastructural features of these conidia. The only ultrastructural data on these spores has come from the work of Batra (2) who used scanning electron microscopy to describe the morphology of the so-called “disjunctors” which connect adjacent conidia of M. vaccinii-corymbosi. The presence or absence of disjunctors is an important taxonomic character in the genus Monilinia (1) but little is known of their development and exact nature. The objective of this study was, therefore, to elucidate details of conidium and disjunctor development in M. vaccinii-corymbosi.

Abstract:
Professor Ravi Batra's research and reflection have lead him to believe that the world is headed, more or less inexorably, towards a major depression "of the same, if not greater, severity" than the one of the ninteen-thirties. He explains that he has written the book to warn people and he provides a set of investment and financial tips, so that the reader can avoid personal disaster in the "impending cataclysm". Batra's tone is light, pleasant but totally self-assured; he "fervently hopes that his prophecies turn out to be totally wrong" but he does not expect this outcome. One must accept that the book is a serious effort at scholarship and analysis and that Batra truly believes in his underlying model and the forecasts it produces. I stress this because there are many passages, even entire sections, in the book which, taken by themselves, might lead one to suspect that the book is a hoax and that the author is having fun at our expense. But, let us reject this possibility and attempt to deal seriously with this presumably serious book.

Abstract:
The Bavli's story of Herod's rise to power, murder of the Hasmonean family and of the rabbis, encounter with Bava b. Buta, and construction of the temple, found at Bava Batra 3b-4a, has long puzzled scholars. Many aspects of this story diverge from Josephus's account, our main source for historical knowledge of Herod's life and deeds. This paper argues that the storyteller has been influenced by Persian sources from the Sasanian period. Important elements of the Bavli story were modeled on the account of the rise of Ardashir, founder of the Sasanian dynasty, as recounted in a Sasanian text known as theKarnamag i Ardashir i Pabagan, “The Book of the Deeds of Ardashir son of Pabag.” The rabbis understood the transition from the Hasmonean to Herodian dynasties through the prism of the transition from the Parthian to Sasanian dynasties. They identified Herod with Ardashir, and constructed a story of Herod's usurpation and rise to power on the basis of Ardashir's usurpation and rise to power as recounted in Sasanian sources.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Ultramafic massif of Bulqiza belongs to Eastern Jurassic Albanian ophiolite belt of IAT-BSV- type. This massif is the most important chromite-bearing ore. The mantle ultramafics have extremely refractory nature. This is due to the high partial fusion of upper mantle which is depleted in CaO and Al2 O3 . The chromitite is situated to different parts of ultramafic pile, from bottom Cpx harzburgites up to massive dunites and cumulate ultramafic but the mainly chromite potential belongs to mantle harzburgite –dunite level and to transition dunites partly. The chromite is chiefly of Cr-rich metallurgical type. The atomic ratios of chromite , Fo of olivine and some physical properties of them vary according to the chromitite setting and reflects the evolution of Ol-Sp equilibrium process depended of the chromite concentration, from baren dunitic lenses towards dunite envelops of the ore bodies and the interstitial and inclusions of olivine within chromite grains. Two particular chromite deposits are the Bulqiza- Batra tabular folded ore body and Shkalla, pencil –like ore body.

Abstract:
We reexamine and extend the antecedents of strategic reorientation, a change in strategy combined with change in at least two of organization structure, power distribution and control systems, presented by Lant, Milliken, and Batra (1992) by using archival data (1987–1993) for firms in the stable furniture and turbulent computer software industries. While enabling direct comparability of results from the two studies, we specify an extended, integrated model of change forces, and test the hypotheses with a more robust data analytic technique, hierarchical regression analysis. The results support industry turbulence and CEO turnover as precursors to strategic reorientation, and suggest that industry turbulence conditions managers’ external attributions for negative financial performance in influencing strategic reorientation. Alternatively, the results indicate that top management team turnover is negatively related to strategic reorientation. The results do not support the Lant et al. (1992) conclusions that low past financial performance, top management team heterogeneity, awareness of environmental changes, and external attributions for negative financial performance outcomes are significantly associated with strategic reorientation. Structural equation analysis indicated the predictive superiority of the respecified model, and we offer suggestions for theoretical refinement and development of strategic reorientation.

Abstract:
Abstract In order to make effective measure for the stress, strain and strain rate in the specimen, a tensile split Hopkinson bar (TSHB) was optimized in the first loading duration and the thermoviscoplastic models for a pure copper were determined. The deformation of the pure copper bar during the multi-tensile loading including the necking process in the optimized TSHB testing was recorded by a high speed camera and was used in providing an extensional check of the determined thermoviscoplastic models of the pure copper. The thermoviscoplastic models determined in a certain range of strain were employed in numerically simulating the large deformation of the pure copper bar to adjust the thermoviscoplastic model to describing large strain range. The instability strain of thermoviscoplastic materials in simple tension given by Batra et al was compared with the experimental strain at diffuse necking of the pure copper bar and the computed instability strain based on the load-average strain of the pure copper bar. The local necking of the pure copper bar in the optimized TSHB testing was numerically simulated using the micro-mechanical data given by Ragab and was compared with the recorded necking.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Oral squamous cell carcinoma is the most common malignancy of the oral cavity, which is usually preceded by a myriad of oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs). In the classification of OPMDs, inherited cancer syndromes (ICSs) were proposed as one of the categories. Inherited cancer syndromes are genetic disorders in which inherited genetic mutation in one or more genes predispose the affected individuals to the development of cancer and may also cause its early onset. Many of these syndromes are caused by mutations in tumor suppressor genes, oncogenes, and genes involved in angiogenesis. General dental practitioners frequently come across OPMDs in their day-to-day practice. It becomes of paramount importance to have knowledge about these rare but prognostically important OPMDs. With this view in mind, in this article, efforts have been made to comprehensively discuss about various ICSs that have higher potential of transformation into oral cancer. The ICSs discussed in this article are xeroderma pigmentosum (XP), ataxia telangiectasia (AT), Bloom syndrome (BS), Fanconi's anemia (FA), and Li–Fraumeni syndrome (LFS), with special emphasis on signs, symptoms, and genetic considerations. Abstract:
Background: This randomized prospective study was conducted in the department of obstetrics and Gynaecology Batra Hospital and Medical Research centre from 1st March to 30th April 2008 to compare the safety and efficacy of intravaginal misoprostol and intracervical dinoprostone gel (cervigel) for cervical ripening and induction of labour. Methods: 80 women were recruited in the study. 40 women were administered misoprostol tablet 25ug vaginally while the other 40 were given intracervical cervigel. Results: A total of 85.1% (68 patients) delivered vaginally (33 in the misoprostol group and 35 in the cervigel group) i.e. spontaneous vaginal and assisted vaginal deliveries. The mean interval from start of induction to vaginal delivery was 707.63+146.511 minutes in the misoprostol group and 833.13 +144.36 minutes in the cervigel group with p=0.001 which was significant statistically. Though both the groups showed a favourable change in Bishop’s score after induction but this was not statistically significant. However, the number of doses required in both the groups to produce an effect on cervical ripening and dilation was statistically significant p=0.001, cervigel group requiring lesser dose (42.5% in cervigel vesus 7.5% in the misoprostol group after administration of 1st dose). Conclusions: Both 25ug misoprostol intravaginal and dinoprostone gel intracervical are equally effective and safe for cervical ripening and induction of labour.

Abstract:
The study identified and measured frequency of fungal species associated with Tomicus minor (Hart.) on Pinus sylvestris L. (Scots pine) in Poland. Additionally, fungal succession in P. sylvestris sapwood was investigated during a 12 week period following an attack by this insect. Fungi were isolated from five populations of overwintered adult beetles and their galleries with 59 species of fungi being represented among the 2880 cultures obtained. The most frequent species, Ophiostoma canum (Münch) Syd. & P. Syd., Hormonema dematioides Lagerb. & Melin, and Ambrosiella tingens (Lagerb. & Melin) L.R. Batra, appeared to be specifically associated with T. minor. The succesional changes in species composition during a 12 week period following an attack by T. minor were observed. The pattern of fungal succession in P. sylvestris sapwood essentially agreed with a general scheme of fungal succession in tree sapwood infested by bark beetles. Ambrosiella tingens was the first invader of sapwood and occurred most frequently in its deeper layers. Ophiostoma canum, H. dematioides, and other molds were also often isolated from the sapwood; however, they were most common at a depth of 5 mm during the initial phase of fungal colonization. Later, Ophiostoma canum followed A. tingens in the sapwood invasion.
