Full textResearch works presented in this thesis deals with the filling and simultaneous emptying of a naturally ventilated room subject to a continuous source of buoyancy, for example, the problem of natural ventilation of a room containing a fire. The aim of this work is to improve from a theoretical and experimental point of view the understanding of the dominant physical phenomena of this mechanism, especially once the stationary state is reached. This work is divided into two parts. In the first "academic" part, we revisit the theoretical model developed by Linden et al. (1990) under the Boussinesq approximation, based on Morton et al. (1956) turbulent plume assumption. This model is then extended in the general non-Boussinesq case and a parametric study highlights the influence of the governing parameters on which it depends. Secondly, we propose a new model based on the exact turbulent plume solutions proposed by Michaux & Vauquelin (2008). Laboratory experiments were also conducted using a light gas air-helium mixture in order to test and validate these models. In the second part of this work, we address the problem of filling and simultaneous emptying in the more specific context of fire safety engineering applied to smoke management. We begin by presenting some engineering relations for fire plumes, which we implement in a filling emptying model. A comparison is then made between these models and those presented in the first part of the manuscript. The last part deals with a fire test campaign at the laboratory scale and on full-scale. The first theoretical model presented in the first part is confronted with different experimental results

Full textThe main objective of this thesis is to propose a behavioral model of the human being in presence of several constraints and to integrate it into a simulation tool for building egress. The proposed model represents an individual-based approach of behavior modelisation and implement axioms of the bounded rationality set by Herbert Simon providing two key features :– individual prioritization and parametisation of cognitivemeans,– individual perception and knowledgemanagement. The proposed software has the particularity to run entirely on GPU via OpenGL 2.0. Thus the frequency of the behavior engine is very near to that of the simulator and allow adaptation of near real-time behavior of agents in a changing perception of their environment

Full textIn France, the building industry represents 40% of the total energy consumption and 25% of the total carbon dioxide emissions. In the objective of decreasing those impacts, a new thermal regulation called “Réglementation Thermique 2012” (RT2012), has been applied. In that context, the Ecole Centrale de Lille and the company Norpac, have chosen to engage a CIFRE thesis in order to develop a new external thermal insulation system for buildings. It was chosen to use textile materials to compose that system called “Isolpac”, in partnership with Dickson, PEG and the CLUBTEX association. At first, the research work was devoted to the hygrothermal, mechanical and chemical characterisation of the different materials composing the new insulation panel, to define the intrinsic properties of different materials, to compare them with conventional materials, in order to validate the choice of materials for the new insulation system. Two accelerated ageing methods were applied on the fabrics. Then, a particular interest is focused on the hygrothermal equilibrium of the panel by using a dynamic simulation on the software Wufi® following the previous characterization. Moreover, a work on the fire reaction of the panel and on the perspectives of other tests needed to guarantee the mechanical strength was carried out. Finally, the search of fixation and assembling techniques for the panels is presented. Installation in situ at scale one were made. The perspectives of tests for qualifying the mechanical strength and the fire resistance are described. A project of a demonstrating façade is presented to be the support for a demand of an Experimental Technical Agreement of the CSTB

Full textThis work is devoted to the evaluation and improvement of zone models, used in fire safety engineering to simulate the smoke propagation in a building in a fire situation. It aims at improving the understanding of the smoke flow in a building. The PhD work is divided into two parts. The first part is essentially devoted to a bibliographical survey and an evaluation of the ability of a zone code CFAST, widely used in fire safety engineering, to simulate smoke flows in a building. Numerical results with CFAST are compared with the data of a real-scale experimental campaign carried out on a three-storey residential building. The second part, more academic, consists of studying the smoke flows in a building. Two phenomena are first studied, namely the smoke filling of a room, and the simultaneous filling and emptying of a naturally ventilated room. Zone models describing these phenomena are presented. Two experimental campaigns are conducted on reduced scale room models, in order to study the two phenomena and to evaluate and improve the zone models. Furthermore, numerical simulations with the CFD code FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator) are performed to extend the study field of the smoke filling. Finally, improvements to the zone model are proposed. After studying the phenomena related to smoke flows in a single room, the smoke flows in a multi-compartment configuration, consisting of two rooms connected by a stairwell, are experimentally studied at the laboratory scale
