Abstract:
The shooting average of basketball is closely related to the shoot angle of basketball players and flight trajectory. Therefore, in the process of peacetime training, only by having a full understanding of basketball's flight path can we help the basketball players better adjust the shoot angle and improve the shooting average of basketball. Thus it can increase the training quality of basketball athlete. Based on this, this paper records the flight path of basketball by combining with the basic theory of aerodynamics in the process of basketball movement, taking advantage of 3 d image analysis technology and HD video recording equipment. Finally, based on Visual c ++ software image segmentation techniques, this paper analyzes the basketball flight data. And then according to the analysis results, various parameters of the basketball trajectories are successfully captured in the process of basketball player's shooting. Moreover, the curve is also obtained which is influenced by the basketball flight distance and athletes' shooting angle. Thus, it provides a reliable theoretical basis for the technical development and training of excellent basketball athletes.

Abstract:
Basketball is a sport in which physical characteristics give significant advantages to the player, the cognitive functions such as game intelligence, instinct and perception as virtues having vital importance in team play make distinction between the players, and different tactical strategies are used during the matches. . The purpose of our study is to determine the relation between skill levels and some physical parameters and the multi-intelligence domains of the basketball players, and also to compared the basketball specific skill levels and multi-intelligence domains according to their socio-economic levels. 42 basketball players with mean age of 13,71±0,82 year and the mean sporting experience of 4,21±1,52 year participated the study voluntarily. Anthropometric measurements of the sportsmen were conducted (body weight, height) and their Body Mass Indices (BMI) were calculated. . In determination of the multi intelligent domains, “Self Assessment Inventory at Multiple Intelligence Domains” was used. The questionnaire prepared by the researcher was applied on the basketball players to determine the socio-economic levels. In determination of basketball specific skills, Johnson Basketball Skill test was used. As a positive weak relation was determined between the age and sport experience of the players and the basketball-specific skill level (r: 0,303, r: 0,308, p<0.05, respectively), a positive weak relation was determined between the skill level and the musical intelligence (r: 0,331; p<0,05). A significant difference was found in favor of the individuals who did sports in the family in terms of social intelligence score (p<0,05). Consequently, it may be stated that age and sport experience has not high effect on the skill level. The effect of the musical / rhythmic intelligence on the skill of the weak may be due to the skill-required movements being performed in a certain rhythm. Sports contributes to the socialization process by providing to improve social skills such as communication, responsibility, empathy, cooperation and sharing. It can be evidence that the social intelligence levels of children who played sports in their family are high.Extended English abstract is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file.

Abstract:
This article is intended to cast light on the general process of the commercialization of sport by examining that process in Trinidad and Tobago basketball. The authors explore the strengths and weaknesses of basketball’s dominant voluntary structure as well as those of the emerging commercialization of the sport. They analyze the tensions between voluntary and commercial basketball, and the relative advantages of each to different segments of the basketball community. They conclude that neither voluntarism nor commercialization is likely to be able to impose its dominance on the other in Trinidad and Tobago. Therefore, the future of basketball in that country will probably involve the coexistence of a voluntary structure alongside an incompletely developed commercial venture.

Abstract:
Major College Basketball in the United States: Morality, Amateurism, and HypocrisiesThe National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and member institutions' presentation of major college basketball in the United States as an endeavor of amateurism is contradictory to the realities of college basketball. Discussed are the following amateurism related hypocrisies: a) requiring players to fully engage in formally structured basketball activities as a priority over education, b) expansion of the post season March Madness tournament regardless of the fact that players will miss more classes, c) compensating basketball coaches with salaries contingent on success defined by winning, and d) the athletic scholarship. Literature supports amateurism hypocrisies in major college basketball (Bermuda 2010, Colombo 2010, Sundram 2010). Understanding the effect of NCAA and member institution hypocritical behavior on determining the moral standing of major college basketball is discussed in the context of claims by Grant (1997), that Machiavelli recognized the necessity of political hypocrisy. A utilitarian analysis using Jeremy Bentham's holistic utilitarian approach calling for the agent to "sum up all the values of all the pleasures on the one side, and those of all the pains on the other" (p. 39) to determine the degree of morality, indicates a presence of morality in major college basketball. Under the premise that major college basketball is an extension of core values held by higher education, Aristotle's Golden Mean (Aristotle, 1941) is used to help identify a point of balanced moral perspective concerning sentiments of the sporting community held for the sport. The end goal is to maintain major college basketball's strong level of satisfaction among members of the sporting community, while controlling the false representation of amateurism surrounding it to preserve the moral and structural integrity of major college basketball.

Abstract:
The current study focused on decision-making styles of basketball classification referees under Turkish Basketball Federation. In the study; “Personal Information Form” designed by the researchers and “Melbourne Decision Making Questionnaire” developed by Mann et al. (1998) and adapted into Turkish by Deniz et al. (2004) that explore decision-making styles were employed. Decision-making styles of the participant referees were compared in terms of sex, age, refereeing duration, province, average number of matches conducted during the season, whether or not being affected by spectator pressure, education, perceived economic income and marital status. The population of the study was composed of a total of 251 basketball classification referees (31 female referees and 220 male referees) under TBF (2015-2016 Season). The sample was consisted of a total of 197 basketball classification referees who volunteered to join the study (25 female referees and 172 male referees). As a result; vigilance decision-making of the basketball classification referees who worked under TBF decreased as their educational status increased. It was identified that those basketball classification referees who were married used buck-passing, procrastination and hyper-vigilance decision-making styles more than those who were single. It may be argued that as age increased, basketball classification referees preferred hyper-vigilance decision-making styles.Extended English abstract is in the end of PDF (TURKISH) file.ÖzetBu çalışma, Türkiye Basketbol Federasyonu (TBF) bünyesindeki, basketbol klasman hakemlerinin karar verme stillerinin incelenmesine odaklanmıştır.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to examine the effect of 8-week corrective exercises applied to 12-15 age group basketball players on Functional Movement Screen Test (FMS) and motor skill (MS) score. 65 volunteer children between the ages of 12-15 participated in the study. The children were the control group (CG) (N = 25) who did not do any exercise, the basketball group that only trained basketball (BG) (N = 20), and the corrective exercise group (CEG) (N = 20) that did corrective exercises in addition to basketball training. It is divided into 3 groups. Basketball training was applied to children on BG 3 days a week. In addition to basketball training, an 8-week corrective exercise protocol was applied to the children in CEG. Functional movement patterns of children were determined with FMS test and MSs with Deutscher Motor Test (DMT). Kruskal-Wallis H Test was used to determine the differences children's pre-tests and post-tests after corrective exercises. As a result of the statistical analysis, a statistically significant difference was found between the pre-test and post-tests of FMS total scores and DMT scores in CEG (p<0.05). As a result, it has been shown that corrective exercises contribute to FMS total scores and the MS development of children. It is thought that the placement of corrective exercises in the training contents can increase the MSs of children. Extended English summary is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file.

Abstract:
ESPN’s 22 basketball-themed documentaries are popular and influential sources for students and fans interested in basketball history. I offer close readings of two films, There’s No Place Like Home and The Fab Five, to shed light on how they (and to some degree the corpus as a whole) portray basketball history, reflect on the historiographical task of portraying the past, and affectively engage viewers to adopt certain stances with respect to the past and its portrayal. There’s No Place Like Home invites viewers to share in a fantasy of basketball as a decontextualized static idea whose history can be possessed. By contrast, The Fab Five challenges viewers to view basketball history as contested terrain where conflicting power vectors of language, culture, and society intersect.

Abstract:
We proposed and implemented an automatic basketball detection and tracking system for broadcast basketball video recorded with a single pan-tilt-zoom camera, using knowledge of player tracking information. The task is challenging because the basketball is blurred due to the camera and the ball's fast movements, and broadcast video compression; also the motion pattern of the basketball is complicated and the ball is hard to distinguish from the cluttered background region. We incorporated three independent detection approaches to detect the basketball and tracked the basketball using the Kalman Filter, and then we analyzed the tracklets and selected the passing / shooting tracklets and inferred the player possession information. We tested the system using 830 frames in broadcast basketball video, and our system demonstrated the ability to track some passing / shooting actions and then infer the player who controls the ball. The system is a first attempt to extend the intelligent basketball tracking system to include basketball tracking and player possession inference. Our proposed methodologies can be extended to other intelligent sports analysis systems, even when the ball movement in the sport is not constrained in two dimensional space.

Abstract:
Relevance of the topic. Lithuania is not a large country and sports talents are not emerging very often. It does not depend on the social or economic situation of the country (Schnabel et al., 1994; Cedaro, 2000; Carling et al., 2009). When giving the opportunity for the talent to achieve positive results in sports, the talented personalities have to be selected, the purposeful training program has to be concluded as well as the monitoring of the practical implementation of the program has to be performed (Regnier et al., 1993; Durand-Bush, Salmela, 2001; Abernethy, 2008; Vaeyens et al., 2008; Bailey et al., 2010; Burgess, Naughton, 2010; Philips et al., 2010; Ford et al., 2011). Therefore it is very important that the training of the athletes has to be conceptualized, so a small quantity of the talented athletes is developed as optimally as possible. Inaccurate training system prevents the athletes from revealing their own potential. Thus, only the consistent sports training system shall stimulate a more rapid improvement of the sports results, as it is harder to identify a talent than to develop it (Balyi, Hamilton, 1999; Raslanas, 2001; Malina et al., 2004; Balyi, Williams, 2009; Stafford, 2010). It was considered for a long time that success in sports depends solely on the athletes, who are physically strong and developed tactically (Krasilshchikov, 2011), however, due to increase of the competition between athletes (De Bosscher et al., 2006) and major political and... Temos aktualumas.

Abstract:
Two separate field studies were conducted to examine the predictions of the multidimensional anxiety theory with both elite able-bodied basketball players and elite wheelchair basketball players. A secondary purpose of this study was to examine the influence of functional classification on cognitive and somatic anxiety and self-confidence in wheelchair athletes. In experiment one, twelve collegiate basketball players completed the Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 (CSAI-II) prior to each of nine league games and in experiment two, thirty-one elite wheel chair basketball players completed the CSAI-II prior to each of three tournament games. Results were analyzed in both field studies using the intraindividual procedures recommended by Sonstroem and Bernado (1982) and separate polynomial trend analyses were used to test the predictions of multidimensional anxiety theory. Results did not provide statistical support for multidimensional anxiety theory in that there were no reliable trends between cognitive anxiety, somatic anxiety, self-confidence and basketball performance in both field studies. In experiment two, results indicated that no significant differences in cognitive anxiety, somatic anxiety and self-confidence occurred as a function of wheelchair classification.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of an experimental teaching method, Sport Aerobics, on the basketball skill acquisition of fifth grade students. This study investigated the differences in the shooting, dribbling, and passing scores of students taught with Sport Aerobics instruction compared to those taught with a traditional method, Practice Style. Sport Aerobics is an instructional method based on a theoretical framework developed by the researcher to enhance skill acquisition. This framework leads to teaching strategies such as using immediate feedback and specific cueing; arranging for students to engage in object free movement; arranging lessons, according to the framework's concept of movement progression, into lessons staged according to skill and sub-skill complexity; and instructing based on whole group organization. Sport Aerobic instructional strategies were designed to facilitate process learning that is recognized as important in today's development learning approach for age related curriculums. In contrast, the traditional Practice Style uses product-oriented strategies. Four classrooms, consisting of seventy-nine fifth grade students from two physical education programs, at different locations, were randomly assigned to two treatments; Sport Aerobics and Practice Style for instruction over a 15 period curriculum. Using the American Alliance Physical Education Recreation & Dance tests, both groups were pretested and post-tested for skill achievement of shooting, dribbling, and passing. Pretest and posttest skill score samples were collected and evaluated. ANCOVAs were performed on the posttests adjusted for the pretests to determine whether or not there would be greater achievement of skills with the Sport Aerobics method. Results failed to establish significant scoring differences between the two methods. Based on the literature and study findings a recommendation is made that longer lesson units will assist in the investigation of the effectiveness of both the instructional model and the individual elements that facilitate skill acquisition.

Abstract:
This paper presents a bracketing method for all the 63 games in NCAA Division I Women's basketball tournament. Least squares models and logistic regression models for Round 1, Round 2 and Rounds 3-6 were developed, to predict winners of basketball games in each of those rounds for the NCAA Women's Basketball tournament. For the first round, three-point goals, free throws, blocks and seed were found to be significant; For the second round, field goals and average points were found to be significant; For the third and higher rounds, assists, steals and seed were found to be significant. A complete bracket was filled out in 2014 before any game was played. When the differences of the seasonal averages for both teams for all previously mentioned variables were considered for entry in the least squares models, the models had approximately a 76% chance of correctly predicting the winner of a basketball game.

Models were developed to predict point spread and to estimate the probability of a specific team winning based on various in-game statistics. Statistics significant in the model were field-goal shooting percentage, three-point shooting percentage, free-throw shooting percentage, offensive rebounds, assists, turnovers, and free-throws attempted. Models were verified using exact in-game statistics for a random sample of 50 NBA games taken during the 2011-2012 season with 88-94% accuracy. Three methods were used to estimate in-game statistics of future games so that the models could be used to predict a winner in games played by Team A and Team B. Models using these methods had accuracies of approximately 62%. Seasonal averages for these in-game statistics were used in the model developed to predict the winner of each game for the 2013-2016 NBA Championships.

Abstract:
This paper studies the effect of two place-based policies implemented in Cali, Colombia on social capital and trust. We use the CaliBRANDO survey to account for institutional and interpersonal trust, matching neighborhood of residence and where policies are applied. We set up a difference-in-difference model to estimate the impact of the policies on the indexes that measure trust. We nd that the organized sport policy improves institutional trust by about 4%. Our results are significant for soccer and basketball and not significant for futsal and other activities. The evidence does not support an effect of nightlights on trust.
