Full textThe present study was conducted to assess the nutrition of Urochloa brizantha (SYN. Brachiaria brizantha) CV. Marandu to P, Mg and S through the development of plants, Visual symptoms and spectral indices of the visible bands. The experiments were conducted in a greenhouse located on the campus of the FZEA/USP. The plants were grown in nutrient solution, where they were provided the following doses of P, Mg, and S: 6%, 20%, 100% and 200% of the recommended, in randomized blocks. The digital images from scanner diagnostic sheets were processed and classified using MATLAB ® R2012b with package of tools for processing images. Characteristic vectors were used based on bands of the visible, being calculated the following indexes: excess Green; standard red; standardised Green; Red-Green ratio. The classification has been used Bayesian classifier. The doses of P, Mg, and S have caused significant increase (P < 0.05) in acúmul shoot dry mass (MSPA) and foliar nutrient levels dosed. The doses of P, S and Mg promoted demonstrations of characteristic deficiency symptoms that result in changes in the profile of colouring of leaves. The Global hit Percentage (PAG) and the Kappa index reached values above 80%, and 0.81, respectively, being considered excellent ratings. The best ratings were obtained when using more than one index as a feature vector. Spectral indices of green and Red are good descriptors of the nutrition status of P, Mg and S marandu grass.

The civil music bands, generally, work as music formation centers. In this way, they attempt the local community desire to study music by the transmission of musical knowledge in this context. The ethnomusicology understands musical transmission as an important factor of musical phenomenon comprehension. The transmission way adopted in that society or community, make us understand its musical culture. Like that, we developed a research with the 12 de Dezembro civil music band of Cabedelo city in Paraíba state. The objective of this study was to understand the latent and explicit process interspersed in 12 de Dezembro civil music band transmission, putting in evidence the main learning and teaching strategies. We observed, systematically, the rehearsals, classes, shows and several 12 de Dezembro music band casual moments. The date collect consisted of interview, photographs, audio and video records. We verified learning and teaching process towards to instrumental practice, at this way, the 12 de Dezembro music band supply its empty instrumental places. In practice, the future instrumentalists will develop their initial learning by the help and mutual changes between the 12 de Dezembro music band members. The repetition, experimentation and imitation are the base of all process.

This dissertation studies the activities of military bands in Brazil during the monarch period (1808-1889). The mais objective is to elucidate the role of these groups in the establishment of repertoire and performance practices associated with this tradicional ensemble: the wind band. My hypothesis is that military bands had both a symbolic role, serving as a sort of sonorus coat of arms for the Brazilian monarch, as well as a structural role, providing the civil society with the elements necessary for the evelopment of this variety of musical practice. My research included several types of resources: official registries, administrative legislation, chronicles of traveling reporters, iconographic documentation and band repertoire. First, I describe the composition of the bands at the beginning of the Nineteenth Century and the reasons for which these groups were introduced into the army. Second, I investigate the mannerin themilitary bands participated in festivities and official ceremonies in Rio de Janeiro and the other places in Brazil Finally, I presented a conceptual and sratistic analysis of the administrative legislationoncerning the military bands. Evidences suggests that bands were introduced into the Portuguese-Brazilian army sometime around the end of the Eighteenth century as partof an of an aristicratic culture, which included military officials. The military bands participated in occasions that required considerable official pomp, such as royal and official ceremonies and festivities. From 1840 on the military bands became more common due the increasing size of the army and the formation of new military corps such as National Guard nd the provinvincial military police, which also included bands in their ranks. Besides performing at official parades and festivities, these bands also perfomed in streets, parks and other places. These constant... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Christmas Bands are a Christian tradition within the Coloured community of the Western Cape that instils discipline and values amongst members of this community and promotes music within previously disadvantaged and under-privileged sectors of society. The history and background of the Christmas Bands is similar to that of the Cape Minstrels and Malay Choirs, who are very prominent during the Christmas and New Year festivities in the Cape. Although these three groups have a close connection they function independently of each other. There are significant differences amongst these groups in respect of culture, repertoire, uniform, organisational structure and composition. This study focuses on the Perseverance Christmas Band and examines this band in all its different facets within the framework of what, in current musicological terminology, is called “community music”. The characteristics of the concept of community music, as they have been formulated in other countries over the last 15 years, are tested against the Perseverance Christmas Band to determine whether the Perseverance Christmas Band should be understood as a example of community music and, vice versa, whether the concept of community music itself is valid when measured against the Perseverance Christmas Band or whether it needs adjustment or expansion.

This work is a proposed interpretative work for clarinet and Brazilian music band concert entitled "A Vida pela Flor" written by the conductor and composer Antônio Joaquim Langsdorf Naegele. Naegele had three of his compositions published by FUNARTE. The music "A Vida pela Flor" is atypical for making use of a fantasy within the context of repertoire for band. Its structure is divided into: Introduction, 1st theme with two variations, 2nd theme with five variations and codetta, differing from the simple structure of most works focused for band, like march, polkas, mazurkas, waltzes, among others. "A Vida pela Flor" stands out for its virtuosity, if taken into account that at the time was run by an instrument with fewer technical resources (Müller System - 13 keys), a remarkable fact. The piece has simple sentences, but with great richness of technique: scales, arpeggios, leaps between different registers of the clarinet, and variation of articulation. Such sentences, or fragments of them, are comparable to those found in the exercises in the "Complete Method for Clarinet" by Elenore Hyacinthe Klosé (1808-1880) which makes us believe that divulging this work will enrich the clarinet repertoire. Knowing that this work is not well divulged among teachers, composers and clarinetists, this study may arise interest to demonstrate the cultural richness that it may bring to our context.

Full textThis works presents the study of tunneling field effect transistors, namely TFETs. Analyses were performed based on theoretical explanations, numerical simulations and experimental data in order to show this technology suitability as an alternative for the continuous devices scaling. The basic idea of making use of band-to-band tunneling as the main current component comes from the possibility of reaching sub-60 mV/decade subthreshold slopes at room temperature, differently from conventional CMOS devices. After all, this physical limitation causes relevant power dissipation issues, since it requires relatively high power supply voltages. Bearing this objective, numerical simulations of several alternative geometries were performed in order to tackle TFETs disadvantages, as the undesirable ambipolar currents and the low ION/IOFF ratio. At first, it was necessary to choose the most appropriate models to take into consideration the relevant phenomena under temperature variation and to define the physical structure in order to minimize ambipolar effects. After these analyses, experimental data were used to calibrate simulation parameters and to study how temperature and physical dimensions affect the performance of devices based on this technology. Comparing experimental and simulated results, it was possible to notice that when the structure is designed with gate underlap related to channel/drain junction and the temperature decreases, the obtained values for subthreshold slope and ION/IOFF ratio may be used as an important reference of this technology as a promising alternative for both digital and analog applications.

Full textTransmitarray is an attractive solution for front-end devices in the next generation of communications (5G). The spatial-fed architecture of transmitarray antennas can compete with phase-arrays due to the absence of feeding network and with reflectarrays since they do not suffer from feed blockage. Thanks to their operation in transmission mode, transmitarrays can be easily mounted on platforms for outdoor environment applications. With mature printed-circuit board technology, there are unstoppable experiments in various frequency bands from cm-wave to mm-wave and up to terahertz in upcoming years for potential applications. Many advanced properties are exploited in transmitarrays in recent years to meet high demands of communications facilities, for example, circular-polarization, dual-/multi-polarization or frequencies through many techniques. Some experiments are consid-ered to validate eligibility of this antenna type in commercial services or military missions, namely electronically steering beam, broad bandwidth, etc. In terms of cost reduction and rigidity, non-dielectric prototypes are also proposed. The Ka-band Satcom applications are the main objective of this thesis through trans-mitarray solution. This band provides high data rate for both down-link and up-link in replacement of the current Ku-band systems with miniaturized module in next dec-ades. Hence, it is worth to pay attention to communications for moving platforms, for example, high-speed trains, planes, etc

Full textInvestigation of the bands called Bandas de Pífanos or Zabumbas, operating in the region of Bahia\'s countryside, near the town of Canudos. We draft the academic approaches of the subject, up to now, and present a study of the organological characteristics of the musical instruments based on our field research in the countryside of Bahia. All goups researched utilizes the longitudinal aerofone, the gaita, although the designation fife also be used. We seek the disambiguation of the terms and studied the differences between the transverse aerophones, fifes, and the longitudinal, gaitas. We also presented 40 musical transcriptions and a study of the reserched groups` musical caracteristics. Then, we anilysed the melodical, harmonical and forms aspects as well the musical genres practiced by the Zabumbas of the countryside of Bahia. We highlight our experience in field research and present a study of the characteristics of the musical band of Bendegó, from the Canudos Velho village. We analyze aspects of melodic, harmonic and cadential formula of beginning and termination of transcripts from artists in field research.

Full textThis thesis presents the design of small form factor Ultra Wide Band antennas with progressive waves shape, which is dedicated to ultra-short pulses radiation in a frequency band ranging from 300MHz to 3GHz. The aim is to combine a wide band of radiated frequencies and good performance while limiting the size of antennas. The insertion of a dielectric material has been associated with the design of Ultra Wide Band antennas to reduce their dimensions. This has led to the synthesis and characterization of innovative dielectric materials based on geopolymers, whose mastering of the value of the permittivity is possible. An antenna prototype has been manufactured and measurements of the different radiation characteristics were made and compared to the simulation results to ensure its good functioning. This antenna has also been associated with radar applications for the detection of targets in different environments (air and soil). The impulse responses obtained for the different tested radar scenes have been compared with the results obtained with other known antennas

Full textImproving performances and safety of pyrotechnic devices requires a sharp knowledge of the shock to detonation transition phenomenon in high explosives. Current models to describe this phenomenon largely involve empiric parameters based on macro scale experiments. To improve predictive capability of these models, it is necessary to get experimental data at a microscopic scale. To provide such data, we developed an experimental setup to shock a high explosive up to 30 GPa and perform in-situ measurement of its Raman spectra under this loading. The device includes a shock generator based on explosive driven plate impact triggered by a laser pulse and a diagnostic involving an excitation laser and a spectrometer coupled with an intensified CCD. This experiment has been applied to an insensitive high explosive named TATB. Pressure driven evolution of the Raman spectra reveals an important coupling between NO2 and NH2 vibration modes that is due to a strong H bonding within TATB crystal. This bonding is clearly linked to TATB high stability. Differences observed between dynamic and static loading are attributed to shock heating resulting in H bonding weakening. Moreover, results show a progressive decrease in Raman spectra intensity with increasing shock pressure down to a complete signal loss at about 9 GPa. High speed visualisations reveal a progressive darkening of the sample leading to complete opacity at 9 GPa. Reflectivity measurements under shock loading show that these two phenomena are due to a shock-induced enlargement of the TATB absorption band

Full textThis thesis characterizes in an experimental way the MIMO channel behavior in different scenarios, including the evaluation of the channel performance dependency with the type of scenario and different propagation conditions. In order to facilitate the development of future systems with multiple antennas in these scenarios, simple and efficient SISO and MIMO channel models are presented. The analysis of the 22 MIMO channel has been based on several measurement campaigns carried out in different outdoor, indoor and mixed environments. Two fundamental aspects are studied: the spatial correlation and the channel capacity. The analysis is completed with the development of a method to model the radio channel based on tapped delay lines. Using this method, simple and efficient SISO and MIMO channel models of indoor, outdoor and mixed scenarios have been obtained. In this way this work contributes to the development of new wireless communication systems and to facilitate the simulation of MIMO systems by means of the new proposed models.

CAPES
Several studies have been conducted with capuchin monkeys (Sapajus and Cebus) in order to understand their evolutionary histories by South and Central America. Genetic analysis, in association with the coat coloration, assist in the identification of the relationships between species and show the diversity presented by both genera. In Brazil, Sapajus species are predominantly distributed, being S. nigritus endemic to the Atlantic Forest and characteristic of southeast. At Ilha da Marambaia, an important area with forest remaining in the state of Rio de Janeiro, there is a population of capuchin monkeys, but without previous study. The objective of this study was to characterize the population of capuchin monkeys at this region through phenotypic and genetic analyzes, including the coat coloration, the sequencing of the mitochondrial gene cytochrome oxidase II and the evaluation of karyotype with conventional staining and C-band. Interviews with residents and military personnel in the region, were also carried out, in order to identify the possible origin and isolation of the primates. Twelve specimens, eight males and four females, were analyzed. The coat features were consistent with that described for S. nigritus, with coloration varying from brown to blackish on the back, limbs, tail and top of the head, in addition to yellow chest and face with white or light yellow, contrasting. Tufts at the top of the head were seen in adults, being greater in females. The analysis of mitochondrial gene revealed closer proximity of this population with S. xanthosternos, which occurs at Bahia, and then with S. cay that occurs in parts of Brazil and Paraguay. The greatest divergence was in relation to the population of S. nigritus in Argentina. The karyotype was consistent with that described for Sapajus species, with 2n = 54 (XX or XY), although the morphology of the sex chromosome Y, submetacentric, was different from that commonly described in the literature (acrocentric). Presented intercalary C-band the chromosome pairs 4, 11, 12 and 17. The par 11 presented three polymorphisms, all interstitial to euchromatin and diversified from each other by deletion and inversion processes. The pattern of this pair is different from that described, as a small acrocentric, to S. nigritus in populations of Argentina, with banding similar to that considered specific for S. xanthosternos. According to the survey, the population of primates seems to be native of the island and is currently isolated. According to the genetic divergences found, the population of Ilha da Marambaia may have maintained ancestral characteristics. The C-band pattern of the pair 11 indicates that the polymorphism described for populations of Argentina does not correspond to the entire distribution of S. nigritus. These data may help to understand the diversity and evolution of Sapajus, since this would have radiated from southeastern Brazil. Further studies with populations from other regions of Rio de Janeiro are needed to verify the C-band pattern presented for the pair 11 as well as the genetic relationships demonstrated by the mitochondrial gene for the population of Ilha da Marambaia.

Full textThe flight test mission services need higher data rates due to increased system complexity and the need for more accurate, higher rate, and better data acquisition. The existing L or S band frequency spectrum allocation was a limiting factor to meet this increased data rate requirement. The World Radio-communication Conference (WRC 2007) attributed new additional frequency spectrum allocations in the C band for Aeronautical Mobile Telemetry (AMT). The international flight test community has taken this opportunity to immediately take advantage of the new C-band range 5091-5250MHz. This paper presents the multi-band feed product designed by the RF & Antenna Laboratory of ZODIAC DATA SYSTEMS company. This feed is foreseen to be used in prime focus configuration on any diameter parabola dish providing telemetry and tracking channels in three L, S, and C bands. Here, are described the concept and the technology achieved taking into consideration the performance and industrial constraints. Moreover, this contribution focuses on the electromagnetic simulations of radiating elements, the feed network and RF system integration. This paper is structured as follows: firstly, the objectives and the motivation for developing a prime focus feed which works in L, S, C bands are presented. In particular, the market constraints and approach to find the best solution satisfying the feed RF requirements, and mechanical constraints, such as weight, size and cost, are discussed. The second section describes the 5 step development cycle: principle and technology, design of the telemetry channels and tracking function, cohabitation of the different radiating elements, and problems of the channels isolations. The third section discusses the performance achieved using electromagnetic simulations. The fourth section talks about the integration of RF system feed. The paper concludes by discussing future work using the same concept that is applied to other telecommunication or telemetry frequency bands.

This work aims to characterize and analyze the performance of the band "Cabaçal Padre Cicero" through existing structural aesthetic elements related to the historical, social and economic context, in addition to relations between musicians and the audience. At first the work was structured upon a methodological basis mainly based on fieldwork with participant observation. By recording in photographs, using audio and video it has been possible to collect consistent information for further characterization and analysis of the performance of the group in question. Subsequently a brief study was conducted about the terms that are present in the whole of the group and research on the Cabaçais bands. The key concepts culture, tradition, modernity and folklore were characterized and contextualized in the research and understanding of them became essential to the understanding of the group's performance and relationships that shape their musicality. Understanding the Cabaçais bands in their historical, aesthetic and structural aspects was essential for the process of cultural exchanges and the changes built into their practice and musical language, from their private interaction as the modern world could understand.

Full textThe development of new thermoelectric materials with good performance and low cost is necessary to make this technology more accessible and thus achieve a significant environmental impact. The work presented in this thesis deals with the synthesis and the structural and physicochemical characterisation of inexpensive oxides, oxysulfides and sulfides compounds in order to study their thermoelectric properties. The first study investigates the influence of low indium contents on the structure and properties of zinc oxide. The characterization of the samples by transmission electron microscopy shows that the solubility of indium in ZnO is less than 0.5 at%. The bidimensional defects formed from low concentrations of indium greatly reduce the electrical resistivity and the thermal conductivity of the material. In parallel with this work, our interest focused on the thermoelectric performances of the oxysulfide BiCuOS through a substitution of Pb at the Bi site. The aliovalent substitution allows a decrease in the electrical resistivity of the material. However, the later remains too high due to a low solubility of the divalent cation in the BiCuOS phase. The last two chapters are dedicated to the study of sulfides compounds. During this work, the natural kiddcreekite mineral phase (Cu6SnWS8) is synthesized for the first time in a laboratory. The successive steps followed to increase the purity of the product is described while the thermoelectric performance of the material is evaluated. Finally, our attention focused on the compounds MnBi4S7 and FeBi4S7 whose crystalline structure seems compatible with a low lattice thermal conductivity. The measured electrical and thermal transport properties are correlated with the electronic structure and the vibrational properties calculated for the two phases. The compound MnBi4S7 thus appears as a promising n-type semiconductor for thermoelectric applications

Full textThe major challenge for graphene-based electronic applications is the absence of the band-gap necessary to switch between on and off logic states. Graphene nanoribbons provide a route to open a band-gap, though it is challenging to produce atomically precise nanoribbon widths and well-ordered edges. A particularly elegant method to open a band-gap is by electronic confinement, which can in principle be tuned by adjusting the nanoribbon width. This thesis is dedicated to understanding the ways of opening band-gaps by nanostructuration. We have used two approaches: the introduction of a superperiodic potential in graphene on vicinal noble metal substrates and the electronic confinement in artificially patterned nanoribbons on SiC. Superperiodic potentials on graphene have been introduced by two nanostructured substrates, Ir(332) and a multivicinal curved Pt(111) substrate. The growth of graphene modifies the original steps of the pristine substrates and transforms them into an array of (111) terraces and step bunching areas, as observed by STM. This nanostructuration of the underlying substrate induces the superperiodic potential on graphene that opens mini-gaps on the π band as observed by ARPES and consistent with the structural periodicity observed in STM and LEED. The mini-gaps are satisfactorily explained by a Dirac-hamiltonian model, that allows to retrieve the potential strength at the junctions between the (111) terraces and the step bunching. The potential strength depends on the substrate, the surface periodicity and the type of step-edge (A or B type). The surface potential has also been modified by intercalating Cu on Ir(332), that remains preferentially on the step bunching areas, producing there n-doped ribbons, while the non-intercalated areas remain p-doped, giving rise to an array of n- and p- doped nanoribbons on a single continuous layer. In the second approach to control the gap, we have studied the gap opening by electronic confinement in graphene nanoribbons grown on SiC. These ribbons are grown on an array of stabilized sidewalls on SiC. As a band-gap opening with unclear atomic origin had been observed by ARPES, we carried-out a correlated study of the atomic and electronic structure to identify the band gap origin. We performed the first atomically resolved study by STM, demonstrating the smoothness and chirality of the edges, finding the precise location of the metallic graphene nanoribbon on the sidewalls and identifying an unexpected mini-faceting on the substrate. To understand the coupling of graphene to the substrate, we performed a cross-sectional study by STEM/EELS, complementary of our ARPES and STM/STS studies. We observe that the (1-107) SiC sidewall facet is sub-faceted both at its top and bottom edges. The subfacetting consists of a series of (0001) miniterraces and (1-105) minifacets. Graphene is continuous on the whole subfacetting region, but it is coupled to the substrate on top of the (0001) miniterraces, rendering it there semiconducting. On the contrary, graphene is decoupled on top of the (1-105) minifacets but exhibits a bandgap, observed by EELS and compatible with ARPES observations. Such bandgap is originated by electronic confinement in the 1 - 2 nm width graphene nanoribbons that are formed over the (1-105) minifacets

Full textDue to current environmental concerns, a resurgence of interest in thermoelectricity have been witnessed by the last 20 years. The challenge raised by this technology lies in identifying materials that display low thermal conductivity as well as both high electrical conductivity and thermopower. The work presented in this manuscript deals with a thorough study on molybdenum-antimony based complex crystalline structure. To finely control the thermal and electrical properties of these compounds through judicious substitutions and to link up physical and structural properties were at the heart of this in-depth study. Not only did we obtain outstanding results regarding the synthesis and both the chemical and structural characterizations but we also discovered intriguing magnetic and transport properties. Particularly, we emphasized the exotic properties exhibited by the binary Mo3Sb7 compound whose a deep understanding were essential to study the transport properties of the ternary and quaternary alloys. The different substitutions we have considered were found to substantially improve the thermoelectric properties of the Mo3Sb7 compound and thus, led to the synthesis of new prospective thermoelectric materials that surpass the best compounds discovered up-to-now (Si-Ge) and used in power generation applications in the 900 – 1200 K temperature range

Full textThe work consists of the reflection about the compositional production structured on hybrid processes, and the use of this concept to the development of a piece for instrumental concert band, which promotes the confluence between genres and techniques of distinct languages. Starting with the principles that framed the Third Stream concept of the fusion between jazz and classical music, we verify the possibilities of the enlargement of this proposal aggregating elements of Brazilian music, and in accordance with the direction taken, we found some works that resemble the piece of this dissertation, in relation to hybrid procedures, showing strong relationships with the characteristics of post-modern musical production.

Full textIn this work, the O-band discrete Raman amplifier gain bandwidth optimization using genetic algorithm of a commercial simulator is carried out. The main objective of the study was to optimize the wide Raman amplifier gain bandwidth obtaining values of gain variation less than 0.5 dB. Using a fiber DCF (Dispersion Compensating Fiber) as Raman amplifier medium, the pump number was varied and the gain variation for each pump configuration has been verified. For a fixed 70 nm (1275-1345 nm) bandwidth consisting of 62 signal frequencies points, the results were generated for one, two, three, four, five, six, seven and eight backward pumps, which with the last one it was obtained the best result of 0.35 dB gain variation. In addition to this analysis, it was also found the Raman amplifier noise figure for this band and made a brief comparison with the conventional profile bands.
