Abstract:
Agriculture is an economic activity that significantly contributes to the GDP of the country, and secures the viability of the rural sector and the social coherence. Optimal utilisation of available resources is important to meet the growing demand of food and fibres of the people. Watershed management planning study on the Badabandha Nala watershed in Banapur block of Khurda district, Odisha, was carried out using multi-objective programming approach and analysed with interactive technique (STEP method). A compromise solution was obtained from the optimal solutions by the preference of Decision Maker by using interactive step method. The land allocation plan was done considering the major crops grown in the area. The objective function was to maximise food, fodder, fuel wood, net income, labour employment generation and runoff water augmentation; considering constraints of land, water and human resources. The benefit-cost ratio of the proposed plan was 1.42:1 with cropping intensity of 170% (kharif 91%, and rabi 79%). The benefit for the proposed planning was 184% higher than the existing practices.

Abstract:
Background: Accredited social health activist (ASHA) workers are the female health volunteers of the community who takes steps to generate awareness and provide information to the community on determinants of health such as nutrition, hygiene practices and basic sanitation, healthy living condition. Our aim was to evaluate the level of awareness of job responsibilities of ASHA workers, to assess about their awareness about the different incentives in the delivery of health care services and to recommend for improvement on the functioning of the ASHA workers. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted in Khordha district of Odisha from March 2018 to July 2018. 3 blocks were selected purposively i.e. Bhubaneswar under urban block, Bolagarh under rural block and Banapur a tribal block. Working in the 3 selected blocks, 331 ASHA’s participated in the study. Results: 37% were between 34-39 years and 30% were in the age group of 34-39 years in the rural block and about 40% ASHA workers belonged to 25-29 years of age. For full immunization in the 1st year of life per beneficiary an amount of Rs. 100 is given to an ASHA worker. However, 67 (68.4%) in urban block, 79 (63.2%) in rural block and 83 (76.8%) ASHAs in tribal block were aware about this incentive. Conclusions: The role of ASHAs should be well defined and accordingly with supportive supervision, the ASHAs should be monitored to efficiently & effectively play their roles and discharge duties.

Abstract:
<p><strong>A set of 292 mungbean germplasm accessions including 62 popularly adapted local land races and two wild forms (<em>Vigna radiata</em> var. sublobata), important breeding lines and standard ruling varieties were screened for drought stress tolerance at seedling stage. Eight genotypes e.g., C. No. 35, OUM 14-1, OUM 49-2, Pusa 9072, OM 99-3, Banapur local B, Nipania munga, Kalamunga 1-A) have been identified to possess drought tolerance. Globulin seed storage protein profiling was carried out in 19 selected mungbean genotypes comprising eight drought tolerant, seven drought sensitive, two wild forms of mungbean (TCR 20 and TCR 213) and two standard checks (LGG 460 and T 2-1</strong><strong>)</strong><strong> to explore differentially expressed polypeptides. Seed protein profiles revealed 15 scorable polypeptide bands with molecular weights ranging from 10.0 to 102.2kD. A specific 12.8kD polypeptide band was present in all above drought tolerant test genotypes including the wild accession TCR 20. Such a polypeptide band may serve as useful biochemical marker for identification of drought tolerant genotypes in mungbean. </strong></p><p><strong> Key words: </strong>Genetic diversity, seed storage protein profile, wild and cultivated <em>Vigna radiata.</em><strong> </strong></p>
