Empowerment is one of the development approaches in improving people's welfare. Economic empowerment through community service activities in the PKK group in Malalayang Dua subdistrict aims to motivate them to be creative in using materials that are no longer useful, especially banana peels to make crackers. Bananas are a fruit that has many benefits. Banana peels also contain sufficient nutritional content and also serotonin which is very vital for balancing mood. Through this community service activity, the Malalayang Dua Village PKK group will receive training on making crackers from banana peels so that unused banana peel waste can be reused and will have selling value if it continues to be developed. The aim of this activity is to provide an understanding of the use of banana peel waste into products that have value through training in making crackers using banana peel as the raw material.

For most people, snacks are one of the things that must be available at home and at work. Banana Fruit Itself has about 136 calories for every 100 grams which overall comes from carbohydrates that have health and nutritional benefits, so it needs to be spread in the community. This community service program aims to provide solutions to problems that exist in Gunungsari village specifically for banana chip producers, namely the lack of quality of goods sold and produced in the area. Abstract:
Introduction: Low mood condition is related to a low level of brain serotonin. An early sign of depression with low mood symptoms is generally treated with psychotropic drugs that work as selective serotonin reuptake and monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors (one of which is sertraline), to increase serotonin levels in the brain. There are some concerns regarding side effects available medication like serotonin syndrome, suicidality and aggressive behavior. Thus, development of alternative herbal products made from a combination of pineapple and banana extract with less side effect and its potential affinity with serotonin regulation is important. Aim of the study: To determine potential herbal rich (banana and pineapple) of L-tryptophan and potential active compounds interaction with the human serotonin transporter. Method: In the present study, using in silico molecular docking techniques, the active compound of banana and pineapple and its potential interaction with human serotonin transporter were assed. Docking study explored the bioactive compounds interactions with specific target like catechin, dopamine, epigallocatechin, gallic acid, L-tryptophan, malvidin, norepinephrine, pelargonidin, peonidin, and serotonin. Molecular docking simulations were performed using AutoDock 4.2 software. The docking method was validated first by re-docking sertraline (nature ligand) in a complex with PDB ID: 6AWO against the target receptor (SERT). Result: The molecular docking results had showed that L-tryptophan, peonidin, and catechin could bind to esential amino acid residues in the binding pocket, with binding affinity -5.69, -8.63, -8.24 kcal/mol respectively. Conclusion: L-tryptophan, peonidin, and catechin are the most promising compounds that have good potency as anti-depressant agents through SERT inhibitory activity. This compounds in bananas and pineapples have the potential to affect serotonin transporter receptors that play a role in mood and behavior.

In banana, the maternal transmission of chloroplast DNA and paternal transmission of the mitochondrial DNA provides an exceptional opportunity for studying the maternal and paternal lineage of clones. In the present study, RFLP combined with hybridization of heterologous mitochondrial and chloroplastic probes have been used to characterize 71 wild accessions and 131 diploid and 103 triploid cultivated clones. In additon to Musa acuminata and Musa balbisiana, other species from the four Musa sections were studied to investigate their contribution to the origin of cultivated bananas. These molecular analyses enable the classification of the Musa complex to be discussed. Results ascertain relationships among and between the wild accessions and the mono- and interspecific diploid and triploid bananas, particularly for the acuminata genome. Parthenocarpic varieties are shown to be linked to M. acuminata banksii and M. acuminata errans, thus suggesting that the first center of domestication was in the Philippines – New Guinea area.Key words: Musa, RFLP, cpDNA, mtDNA, lineage.

A survey study was conducted to estimate the cost, returns, relative profitability and practices of Pineapple mono-crop and Pineapple inter-crops production in Madhupur area of Tangail District. Data was collected personally through prepared interview schedule from 60 randomly selected Pineapple growers from Ausnara, Oronkhola, Sonia and Motel bazar union under Madhupur Upazila of Tangail District during July to October 2013. A simple random sampling was followed to select the farmers in the study area. Both tabular and statistical analyses were applied in this study. Cost and return analysis showed that total cost incurred for producing Pineapple mono crop, Pineapple+Papaya and Pineapple+Banana+Aroid were Tk.312849.72, Tk.395894.01 and Tk.377013.25 per hectare respectively. Per hectare net return for Pineapple + Papaya and Pineapple + Banana + Aroid production were Tk.492111.00 and Tk.195704.75 which were higher than that of Pineapple mono crop (Tk.157675.28). On the other hand BCR for Pineapple + Papaya and Pineapple + Banana + Aroid production were 2.24 and 1.52 which were higher than that of Pineapple mono crop (1.50). It represents that both pineapple mono-crop and pineapple inter-crops production are profitable among them Pineapple-inter crops cropping pattern is more profitable then Pineapple-mono crop. About 80% of pineapple growers grow papaya, banana, zinger, turmeric and aroids as intercrops with pineapple. The study identified some crucial problems and probable solutions suggested by the farmer. Finally, some policy recommendations were suggested and avenues for further research were shown. This deals to study the effect of different underutilized, cheap and readily available flours from rice, sorghum, unripe banana, water chestnut and moong and their mixtures on dough, flatbread and sensory characteristic of gluten free flatbread. D-optimal mixture design approach was utilized for the study. Dough stickiness decreased with increasing concentration of unripe banana and sorghum flour. Dough strength was positively influenced by rice and moong flour. Tear force values were higher at higher sorghum concentration. Higher levels of sorghum and rice tend to possess higher scores for sensory acceptability. Optimum dough and flatbread qualities were obtained with the optimized sample (Gluten free formulation) containing flours from rice (60%), sorghum (10%), unripe banana (5%), water chestnut (15%) and moong (10%). Model was found to be valid statistically. Further, this mix was compared with whole wheat flour for pasting and rheological properties and found to possess comparable properties.

Postpubescent females may have negative mood or premenstrual syndrome during the menstrual cycle; with the emotional and physical symptoms interfering with their quality of life. Little is known about the relationship of dietary behaviors and dietary antioxidant intake with negative mood or premenstrual syndrome in university students in China; so we explored the relationship between negative mood and dietary behavior in female university students during the three menstrual cycle phases. Random sampling was used to enroll 88 individuals from a university in Guangzhou; China in the study. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires. Descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regression analyses were performed. During the menstrual phase, tea, black coffee and carbonated beverage intake was higher in the group with a high negative affect scale score than in the low score group (p < 0.05). Likewise; during the premenstrual phase, fresh fruit (banana and red Chinese dates) intake was higher in the group with a high negative affect scale score than in the low-score group (p < 0.05). The logistic regression analysis results showed that negative mood was positively associated with tea, coffee, and carbonated beverage intake during the menstrual phase (β = 0.21, p = 0.0453, odds ratio = 1.23), and negative mood was positively associated with banana and red Chinese dates intake during the premenstrual phase (β = 0.59, p = 0.0172, odds ratio = 1.81). Our results suggest that negative mood may be associated with diet and specific food in university postpubescent females.

The Bali green banana is commonly given as additional food for babies and the elderly, because of its high nutritional value and safe for digestion. While Java pineapple which is familiar as “nanas madu” has a sweet taste and is rich in an active compound associated with mood. A previous study found that adult people with and without intermittent explosive disorder with lowered serotonin bioavailability tend to selfaggressive behavior. Tryptophan depletion causing low serotonin precursor is associated with aggressive behavior. Adequate intake of tryptophan sourced from fruits is needed for physiological mechanisms, especially in the serotonergic system. The efficacy of antioxidant content in Java pineapples (Ananas comosus L. Merr) combined with tryptophan compound in Bali green banana (Musa acuminata Colla) has the potential to suppress an aggressive behavior through the serotonergic system homeostasis mechanism. This study aimed to find the tryptophan compound in an extract of Bali green banana which is a combination with Java pineapple. Methods: tryptophan compounds in this simplicia extract were analyzed by the Highperformance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. Result: the extract of Bali green banana Bali combined with Java pineapple showed the tryptophan content was 0.316 mg/100gr simplicia. Conclusion: an extract of Bali green banana combined with Java pineapple contains 0.316 percent tryptophan. This combination of compounds has the potential as a new combination of natural sources of suppressive self-aggressive behavior.

AbstractAn experiment was carried out to assess the benefits of native arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) for banana plants cv. ‘Nendran’. The AMF species applied wereFunneliformis mosseaeandGlomus microcarpum, which were identified in a previous survey as the most common root associates ofMusaspp. in traditional monoculture banana fields. Spores of both the AMF species isolated from the natural banana fields were mono-cultured and used in the experiment, individually and in combination, at two inoculum spore levels (2500 or 5000 spores). We evaluated the root colonising potential of AMFs and their effects on plant height, chlorophyll content and leaf N, P and K concentrations at regular intervals up to 90 days after inoculation. All the inoculated plants showed more than 80% root colonisation. Increase in chlorophyll content in the leaves was found significant in all treatments, with the exception of the combination of 5000 spores ofF. mosseae and5000 spores ofG. microcarpumeach. Increases in leaf N, P and K were found in all the inoculated plants as compared to control (sterile soil without any AMF). While a significant reduction in soil available nitrogen and soil pH was observed in all treatments with inoculation, the soil available phosphorus and soil total organic carbon were increased by inoculation. Overall data revealed positive effects of AMF species in banana, especially during its early growth. As AMF species were isolated from fields differing in relation to banana variety and soil type and have positive effects in banana nutrition, an integrated soil fertility management using AMF appears promising.

This study makes use of E glass fiber and Banana fiber woven mats for the development of the hybrid composite mono leaf spring. Six composite laminates for selecting the optimum stack sequence were fabricated, four hybrids and two standalone using epoxy as matrix. From the flexural tests, two hybrid combinations were selected for fabricating the mono leaf spring. Among the hybrid composites, the one with three layers of glass fabric on the outside displayed maximum bending strength of 99.6 MPa. Composite mono leaf spring with three layers of glass fabric on the outside exhibited lower deflection when compared to conventional leaf spring. Results indicate that mono composite leaf spring has the potential to be used as an alternative to conventional leaf spring with continual research.

Banana (Musa sapientum L.) cultivation in rural communities creates job opportunities and generates income. Soil nematodes, a major pest, can lead to yield loss and financial loss. To ensure sustainable production and food security, it's crucial to survey potential threats and identify incumbent nematode species. Identifying these species can help develop effective pest management strategies. A survey was carried out to determine the potential nematode species of threat to banana production in Otuoke community, Bayelsa State. The random sampling technique was employed and soil and roots from two banana mono-cultured vegetations were tested. The modified sieve plate technique was used for nematode extraction and nematode pictorial key was employed for nematode identification to genera level. A total of 438 nematodes representing 8 genera were identified, among which 51.4% occurred in farm 1 and 48.6% were reported from farm 2. Nematodes of significant economic interest reported in this survey were Meloidogyne species (23.1%), Pratylenchus species (18.5%), Ditylenchus species (15.3%), Helicotylenchus species (10.0%), Hemicyclophora species (9.8%), Rotylenchus species (9.1%), Radopholus species (8.4%) and Paratylenchus species (5.7%). The occurrence of nematodes against farm types displayed disparities which was indicative that nematodes survival strategy depends on the prevailing field conditions. The study revealed that nematodes compose a prominent pest group infesting banana in Otuoke and should be checked to ameliorate food security.

Effect of multi cropping (Potato-Jute-Sweetgourd-T.Aman, Sweet gourd-Brinjal-Jute, Cauliflower-Radish-Lentil-Basil, Jute-Lentil-Mustard-Wheat and Sweetgourd-Turnip, designated as P-J-S-T, S-B-J, C-R-L-B, J-L-M-W and S-T, respectively) and mono cropping systems (orchard of Lychee, Teak, Turmeric and Banana) on microbial and enzymatic activity of Ganges floodplain soil was investigated. Organic carbon, microbial biomass carbon (MBC), microbial biomass nitrogen (MBN), soil respiration, total nitrogen and urease activity (UA) of the soils were examined. Upon examination it was observed that soils under mono cropping pattern (Lychee, Teak, and Banana) showed significantly (p?0.05) higher MBC, MBN and UA than those under multi cropping pattern. Highest values of MBC and UA found in teak plant were 95.44 milligram/kilogram (mgkg-1) and 6.51µg N released g-1day-1 respectively while for multi cropping pattern the respective values were 37.52 mgkg-1 and 2.23 µg N released g-1day-1 found in S-T and J-L-M-W cropping pattern. The highest MBN (12.70 mgkg-1) was obtained in soil where lychee was practiced. Multi cropping soil showed significantly (p?0.05) higher respiration rate than mono cropping soil and the highest rate was found 508.75 mg CO2 g-1day-1 in J-M-L-W cropping pattern. Turmeric showed the lowest respiration rate (120.75 mg CO2 g-1day-1) among the cropping pattern studied. Both MBC and UA showed positively significant relation with soil organic carbon, and total N at 0.01 % level. High microbial and enzymatic activity of mono cropping soil represent combined effect of vegetation and low tillage practices in soil.

Abstract:
This study aimed to investigate the influence of mono ammonium phosphate (MAP) on ash yield from the co-combustion of sugarcane bagasse and banana leaves in a muffle furnace. An I-Optimal design of the Combined Methodology, embedded in Design Expert (version 13.0.5), was employed to optimize ash yield, considering various particle sizes, additive concentrations, and temperatures. The mixed samples were ashed in a muffle furnace to a constant weight, and the ash yield was analyzed using statistical tools to assess the model's quality. The MAP additive was most effective at concentrations between 4% and 7%, beyond which ash yields increased significantly. The optimal composition was determined to be 75% sugarcane bagasse, 20% banana leaves, and 5% ammonium phosphate at 950°C, resulting in the lowest ash yield of 6.46%. The presence of MAP in the biomass mixture significantly reduced ash yield. The model's R² and adjusted R² values were 0.9825 and 0.9099, respectively, indicating accurate determination of the model coefficients. This study demonstrates that ammonium phosphate additive has great potential in mitigating ash-related problems in biomass combustion.

The goal of this work was to evaluate changes in dietary fiber measured by the traditional enzymatic-gravimetric method (AOAC 991.43) and the more recently accepted modified enzymatic-gravimetric method (AOAC 2011.25), mono- and disaccharides, and starch as a function of assessed ripeness in a controlled study of a single lot of bananas and in bananas at the same assessed stages of ripeness from bananas purchased in retail stores, from different suppliers. Sugars, starch, and dietary fiber were analyzed in bananas from a single lot, at different stages of ripeness, and in retail samples at the same assessed stages of ripeness. Mean fiber measured by the traditional enzymatic-gravimetric method (EG) was ~2 g/100g and not affected by ripeness. Mean fiber assessed with the recently modified method (mEG) was ~18 g/100g in unripe fruit and decreased to 4–5 g/100g in ripe and ~2 g/100g in overripe bananas. Slightly ripe and ripe bananas differed by ~1.1 g/100g in the controlled single-lot study but not among retail samples. There was a large increase in fructose, glucose and total sugar going from unripe to ripe with no differences between ripe and overripe. Aside from stage of ripeness, the carbohydrate composition in retail bananas is likely affected by differences in cultivar and post-harvest handling. Results from this study demonstrate the importance of measuring dietary fiber using the mEG approach, developing more comprehensive and sensitive carbohydrate analytical protocols and food composition data, and recognizing the impact of different stages of maturity and ripeness on carbohydrate intake estimated from food composition data.

An experiment was conducted under the ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project on Fruits to study the high-density planting (HDP) and nutrient requirement of banana at six research centres across the country, including Bhubaneswar (Orissa), Gandevi (Gujarat), Jalgaon (Maharashtra), Jorhat (Assam), Kannara (Kerala) and Mohanpur (West Bengal) to enable higher productivity of banana and profit to farmers. The objective of this study was to explore the possibility of increasing productivity through the intervention of only per unit plant population (through planting system) and level of nutrition, but without any interference to the regional choices of variety (eg., choice variety Nendran for Kerala or Martaman for West Bengal), production system (mono/poly- clone, single/multi-year plantation, and POP of respective states), for which national productivity ranges are much skewed also. Results indicated that intervention of only plant density could increase the productivity of banana within the existing system of production and choice of a variety of different regions or states. The experiment was laid out in RBD with four planting densities (S1P2, S1P3, S2P2 and S2P3, where S1=2m x 3m, S2=1.8m x 3.6m, P2=2 suckers/hill, P3=3 suckers/hill), three nutrition levels (F1, F2 and F3 , which is 100%, 75% and 50% of RDF) and one with region-specific conventional planting density and nutrition (100% of RDF) practices as control. The results of this experiment showed that HDP (S1P3, 5000 plants /ha) in banana, accommodating three suckers per hill at 2m x 3m spacing increased productivity over the conventional system at the Bhubaneswar, Gandevi, Jorhat, Kannara and Mohanpur centres. The increase in productivity due to HDP (5,000/ha) over control was 28.9% (RDF 25%) to 50.6% (RDF 100%) at Bhubaneswar, 15.2% (RDF 25%) to 21.9% (RDF 100%) at Gandevi, 4.0% (RDF 25%) to 7.4% (RDF 100%) at Jorhat, 33.5% (RDF 25%) to 43.5% (RDF 100%) at Kannara and 46.5% (RDF 25%) to 79.0% (RDF 100%) at Mohanpur centre. The nutrient requirement under HDP was 100% RDF at Kannara, 75% RDF at Bhubaneswar and Mohanpur and 50% RDF at Gandevi and Jorhat centres, which indicates a saving in cost of fertilizer input by 25% -50%. It is, therefore, recommended for HDP (5000 plants/ha) in banana, accommodating three suckers per hill at 2m x 3m (6.6 ft x 3.8 ft) spacing with 50% RDF in the agro-climatic regions of Gandevi and Jorhat, with 75% RDF in the agro-climatic regions of Bhubaneswar and Mohanpur and with 100% RDF in the agro-climatic region of Kannara in order to ensure higher productivity and profit to farmers.

The most frequently described drugs in the treatment of mood disorders are selective serotonin reuptake and monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors, enhancing serotonin levels in the brain. However, side-effects have been reported for these drugs. Because serotonin levels in the brain are dependent on the availability of the food-derived precursor tryptophan, foods such as chicken, soyabeans, cereals, tuna, nuts and bananas may serve as an alternative to improve mood and cognition. Here we discuss the effects of high- or low-tryptophan-containing food, as well as plant extracts with a modest monoamine reuptake and MAO-A inhibition functional profile, on mood and cognition in healthy and vulnerable human subjects and rodents. Together the studies suggest that there is an inverted U-shaped curve for plasma tryptophan levels, with low and too high tryptophan levels impairing cognition, and moderate to high tryptophan levels improving cognition. This relationship is found for both healthy and vulnerable subjects. Whereas this relationship may also exist for mood, the inverted U-shaped curve for plasma tryptophan levels and mood may be based on different tryptophan concentrations in healthyv.vulnerable individuals. Animal studies are emerging and allow further understanding of effects and the mode of action of food-derived serotonergic components on mood, cognition and mechanisms. Ultimately, insight into the concentrations of tryptophan and other serotonergic components in food having beneficial effects on mood and cognition in healthy, but particularly vulnerable, subjects may support well-being in our highly demanding society.

Abstract Environmental issues have become a worldwide crisis because of the high rate of pollution and changing climate patterns. Due to innovations and discoveries, the need for materials is increasing day by day. Here, composite materials can be substituted for any other mono-clinic materials fulfilling the requirements of those particular materials. However, the maximum composite materials are man-made or artificially fabricated fibers. These are not environmentally friendly and bio-degradable, which creates an environmental hazard. So, scientists are trying to fabricate composite materials from eco-friendly and green resources. The main advantages of natural fibers are their low cost, easy availability, and low density. Besides these acceptable specific properties, ease of separation, increasing energy recovery, carbon-oxide neutrality, and recyclable properties are increasing the popularity of natural fiber. In this study, we have used mainly two types of banana fiber for preparing the composite specimens, especially highlighting the hybrid fiber, which is made by mixing those two types of fiber: “Shobri” and “Champa” banana fibers. These names are renowned locally in Bangladesh. In this study, polyester and MEKP are used as matrix and hardener sequentially. We have accomplished a chemical treatment process. The treating process was accomplished in the alkaline medium with two different molar concentrations of NaOH. These are 1% and 5% solutions of NaOH. After the treatment neutralization process was performed with a 1 gm/L acetic acid solution. In addition, two distinct mechanical tests— the bending and tensile tests—were carried out. The results indicated that the hybrid fiber treated with 1% NaOH had the highest tensile properties; its Young’s modulus was around 625 MPa and its tensile strength was approximately 36.42 MPa. The tensile strength and Young’s modulus of Champa banana fiber treated with 1% and 5% NaOH solutions were the lowest, respectively. Approximate values are 1.82 GPa and 18.3 MPa. The flexural strength of hybrid fiber treated with 1% and 5% NaOH was the highest and lowest in that order. 69.2 MPa and 56.21 MPa, respectively, are their values. Regarding flexural modulus, Champa fiber treated with 5% and 1% NaOH exhibits the highest and lowest values, measuring roughly 4 and 1.82 GPa, respectively.

Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus (DM) has been linked to depression and lipid metabolism impairment. Serotonin (5-HT) has been known to improve lipid metabolism and affect mood. The 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) in banana peel flour (BPF) is a precursor to synthesize 5-HT in the body, which is linked to initiating liver regeneration via HTR2B receptors. The impact of 5-HTP in the diet on HTR2B receptor expression has yet to be thoroughly investigated. We aimed to elucidate the correlation between serum lipid profile and immobility time in Tail Suspension Test (TST) as depressive-like behavior and compare the expression of HTR2B receptor in healthy and diabetic rats. Male Wistar (Rattus norvegicus) rats were assigned to the control and treatment groups in a DM model with streptozotocin (60 mg/kg) injected intraperitoneally, then either fed standard diet or BPF 10% supplemented standard diet for 21 days. Immunohistochemical staining was used to examine the expression of 5-HT, HTR2B receptors. We determined that diabetic rats fed the standard diet supplemented 10% BPF group showed significantly lower concentrations of total cholesterol and triglycerides compared to diabetic rats fed a standard diet and it was positively correlated between total cholesterol and LDL with the duration of immobility time in TST. The average immunoreactivity score in diabetic rats fed 10% BPF was the highest among the other groups, indicating that the available BPF dose is sufficient for HTR2B activation, which will support the liver cell regeneration process, and should be investigated further.

Hence, the objective of this study is centered on the determination of adverse trend in the mono-cultural society.To determine the rate of influx of labor turnover using “TENDON SCALE” methodology, that will aid in establishing the evils of unemployment generated by it.To examine the advantages of labor turnover, if any, to the organization, as well as the general society, and to recommend a lasting solution that will curb the effects of LT, re-strengthen the labor relation laws of the advantage to the masses. The data collection is mostly based on primary sources as well as historical review of related literature was embarked upon to obtain a wider scope of coverage. Factual discussion was applied on time schedule on selected industries. A structured interview questionnaire was prepared consisting of (50) fifty in number tailored towards allowing individual respondents to expatiate his/her view on the rate of LT in his/her working place. The structured questionnaire was prepared in such away as to segmentize the labor structure/work force on functional basis in order to determine most affected segment of labor force of the organization. The analysis revealed that labor turnover is a hybrid of mono-cultural economy which begets the evils of unemployment ravaging the third world nations. A mono-cultural economy is one without alternative source of revenue, handicapped by vested interest of maraudours governance. A mono-cultural economy is characterized by ambiguity of approach due inconsistency in government policy and ideology, which has nothing to offer (survival of the fittest). When an economy is heavily dependent on one source of mainstay is described as mono-cultural society. Putting financial constraint apart, the study has been characterized by poor responses due to limited knowledge of the term labor turnover to the average worker.Labor laws in most third world nations are tailored to favor the employers rather than the employees, hence the actual cause/causes of LT cannot be ascertained based on responses from the employers and employees.Reasons for job satisfaction/unsatisfaction cannot be established due to the nature of labor laws that permits individual employer to determine the fate of the employees in his organization in mono-cultural economy. Data collection was handicapped by poor responses from the lower segment of the workforce that were restricted from having open interaction with outside visitor. Labor turnover should be a concern of the government for the benefit of its citizenship in all practical wisdom, but this is not the case in mono-cultural economy. It is a case of survival of the fittest, where a citizen is subjected to death penalty by labor laws which should have been in favor of the workforce. Mono-cultural governments are “banana” governments viable only to the survival of the fittest.

Introduction: Dual-species biofilm of Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus acidophilus in dental caries has a higher viability or ability to survive in comparison to mono-species biofilm, consequently it is more resistant to antibiofilm. Mauli banana stem gel (MBSG) contains isoleucine, cinnamic acid, and another bioactive constituents that may work as antibiofilm, hence it is able to decrease the viability of dual-species biofilm of S. mutans and L. acidophilus. This research aims to analyze the effect of MBSG on viability of dual-species biofilm of S. mutans and L. acidophilus. Material and methods: This research is a true experimental research with post test only with control group design which divides dual-species biofilm of S. mutans and L. acidophilus into 12 groups with 4 replications. Group 1 are given 0.2% chlorhexidine gel (positive control), group 2 are not given any treatment (negative control), group 3 are the media control, and group 4-12 are given MBSG concentration of 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, 37.5%, 50%, 62.5%, 75%, 87.5%, and 98%. Each group is incubated for 72 hours, afterward is given MTT reagent and read using a microplate reader. Results: The result of Kruskal-Wallis (p=0,00) and Mann-Whitney test showed significant difference between all treatment groups and control groups. Conclusion: MBSG concentration of 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, 37.5%, 50%, 62.5%, 75%, 87.5%, and 98% are able to decrease the viability of dual-spesies biofilm of S. mutans and L. acidophilus.

The aim of this work was to study the potential of food waste materials (banana peel, potato peel, apple peel, lemon peel, coffee waste, decaf coffee waste, grape waste, and carob peel) as low-cost adsorbents for the removal of aliphatic and aromatic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from wastewater. The ability of examined food waste materials to adsorb VOCs from synthetic multi-component standard solutions was evaluated and the examined food waste materials showed high removal efficiency. Performances of coffee waste, grape waste, and lemon peel were detailed by using Trichloroethylene and p-Xylene in mono-component standard solutions. The adsorption capacity of the three selected food wastes was determined by using linear Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. Two errors functions, average percentage error (APE) and the chi-square test (χ2), were used for isotherm optimization prediction. Freundlich isotherm well described the adsorption of VOCs on the considered materials. According to the obtained results, a multilayer, physical, and cooperative adsorption process was hypothesized, particularly evident when the VOCs’ concentrations are high. This was confirmed by the high adsorption efficiency percentages (E% > 80%) of VOCs from a real polluted matrix (urban solid waste leachate), containing high concentrations of total organic content.

The elderly population is increasing worldwide. Dietary habits play a crucial role in prolonging life and preventing diseases. This cross-sectional study sought to investigate the dietary habits of the elderly in the Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region of Ghana and further ascertain the factors that constitute nutritional challenges among this group. A mixed method approach was used for the study. A questionnaire and focus group discussion guide were used to solicit data from study participants. A total of 97 participants made up of 59 males and 38 females participated in the study. Data on food habits reveal that staple food consumption especially those grown within the study area is common. Rice (34.1%), game meat (47.1%), banana (63.9%), and garden eggs (27.8%) were the commonly consumed foods by frequency. Mood (41.2%) and stress (24.8%) were identified as the most predominant determinants of food habits. Poly medication, toothache and loss, immobility, and financial and technological challenges were amongst the nutritional challenges mentioned by the elderly in this study. Results from the focus group discussion revealed high nutrition knowledge among the elderly through factors such as financial constraints that were mentioned as a barrier to the translation of this knowledge into practice. Strengthening of existing interventional programmes such as the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty and social interventions is needed to improve the dietary habits and nutritional intakes of the elderly.

Aim: Depression is a main public health problem and disability worldwide. A bi-directional influence can be between foods and psychological disorders. This study aimed to determine the association between some good mood foods and depression. Method: In this cross-sectional study, 100 undergraduate students and academicians over the age of 18 studying at Istanbul-Turkey universities were included. Demographic characteristics and eating habits were asked, and Beck Depression Scale was used to determine depression status. Results: High intakes of milk, yogurt, meat, egg, fish, walnut, fig, almond, banana, kiwi, pineapple, chocolate, honey, tomato and oyster were associated inversely with depression. There was a significant relationship between fig, kiwi and honey (borderline) and depression. So that the OR (odds ratio) (95% CI) in the low and high consumption category of fig was 0.39 (0.15-0.98) and 0.24 (0.08-0.76) respectively (p&lt;0.05). The higher consumption of kiwi decreases the risk of depression. The ORs (95% CI) of low and high consuming of kiwi were 0.56 (0.19-1.68; p=0.3) and 0.12 (0.03-0.41; p=0.001) respectively. For honey the ORs (95% CI) in low and high consumption categories were 0.42 (0.12-1.46. p=0.17) and 0.32 (0.1-1.02. p=0.05) respectively. Conclusion: It was observed that the frequency of depression decreased in people who consumed high amounts of fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, milk and yogurt.

Agriculture plays a critical role in sustaining life and driving the economy of India. The idea of sustainable agriculture is a holistic approach to meet the demands of food supply while protecting our environment. Through various sources, it has been found out that the country is running out of the main reservoirs of water to irrigate the fields. The present study investigated the possibility to prepare different natural hydrogels using Chia seeds, Flax seed, Gond katira, Arrowroot powder, Tapioca, Agar-agar, Corn starch, Gelatin, Aloe vera, and their comparison with a synthetic hydrogel used in sanitary napkins. On successful formation of natural hydrogels and getting valuable results in their water holding capacity, the work continued to test their potential on growth and development of seeds of two plants: Moong beans (Vigna radiata) and Fenugreek (Trigonella sp.) along with bio-organic fertilizers prepared from onion, garlic and banana respectively. Seeds were sown in soil less media (Coco-coir) and the study of various parameters like phytotoxicity test, seed germination, water consumption, number of leaves, root and shoot length indicated promising results in the establishment and healthy growth of the seedlings. Use of natural biodegradable hydrogels therefore may prove as an easy, low cost and eco-friendly way to establish the seedling development and subsequent productivity at the commercial level under conditions of water scarcity for sustainable agriculture.

The objective of this paper was to study the “June spring warm look forward to lovers,” which was composed by Yuguang in Ga Sa Village, Xishuang Banna, Yunnan Province, China. Field study in 2021, using an anthropological approach to explicate characteristics of Yuguang's contemporary compositions, based on Dai culture and Zhangha cultural symbol. The results of the study were as follows: “Zhangha, a cultural symbol, constitutes the materialized carrier of people's concept of the harmonious special culture of people under the unique context and religious spirit of the Dai people. The structure was similar to the rondo form or ABACADAEFA. The composer has created and stands out as follows: The traditional melody of “Zhang-ha”, which makes its apperance in the accompaniment timbre, breaks through the single technique, thus generating this modern Dai song. There are two interesting musical characteristics: 1) It vividly depicts the lively and jubilant scene of guests arriving to celebrate the new year in the Dai New Year, with a beautiful, vivid melody and passionate lyrics. That describes the happy and sweet mood of lovers when they get together. 2) The song’s musical structure is a typical multi-periodvariation structure. At the same time, the rhythm of the whole song is distinct, and the melody range changes freely.

Abstract: This paper, based on a social impact research and the possible NIMBY-effect of the Turin, Italy, co-incinerator, deals with risk perception, scientific literacy and their influence on the attitude towards high-tech and controversial industrial plants. The paper argues that plant and infrastructure settlements having a substantial ecological impact represent a highly sophisticated and diverse social phenomenon in which risk plays an important but not unique role. Taking into account some important concomitant variables (such as trust, mass media use, political culture in decision-making processes), it is first of all shown that risk is not a mono-dimensional concept, as assumed by the psychometric tradition, and that two dimensions of the concept are to be found. The collective dimension has a positive monotonic association with a critical attitude towards the co-incinerator, whereas the individual dimension has an unexpectedly negative correlation, which will be explained in further detail. It also demonstrates that scientific literacy has no statistical significance for attitude in our model, confirming the well-known limits of the so called ‘knowledge deficit’ model.

<p>i-ow productivity of coconut farm is the main problem of coconut industry. The fact that intercropped palms were more productive than when solely planted, the most suitable way to increase productivity is through multiple cropping. To cope with (he existing variation of cropping pattern in relation to coconut production, soil and leaf nutrient element, various cropping patterns with four species of perennial crop as intercrops were conducted under study. The objectives of the study were (1) to study the effect of cropping patterns on the growth, nut production and farm productivity of coconut under farmer levels, soil chemical propeties and leaf nutrient element and (2) to study the correlation between growth and production parameter with soil chemical propeties and leaf nutrient elements. Various cropping patens under study namely (1) coconut monoculture (control), (2) coconut + pineapple, (3) coconut + coffee, (4) coconuf - papaya ♦ pineapple, (5) coconut + banana + coffee, and (6) coconut + banana + papaya + coffee i pineapple Total area for each cropping patern was 0.5 ha with coconut planting distance 8 m x 10 m and the palms 35-40 years old The site of the experiment conducted was at Silang, Cavite. Data on coconut growth and production, soil chemical properties and leaf nutrient parameters, were statistically analyzed in a randomized complete block design (RCDB) with three replications. Correlation analysis were performed on the following (1) Growlh and production parameters with soil chemical propeties, and leaf nutrient elements, (2) Relationship among nutrient element in the coconut leaves under various cropping paterns Results of the study showed that the effect of cropping patterns on the number of full-grown nul increased signiicantly more nut and higher amounts of copra per tree were produced in intercropped farms than in the mono-cropped coconut plantation. These increase ranged from 64 to 98 percent in terms of nuts and 70 to 105 percent in terms of copra. Positive correlation was observed between nitrogen in the top soil with weight of copra and nut production. The exchangeable potassium in lop soil was positively correlated with nut production. Meanwhile, the organic mater, content in the soil were positively correlated with weight of copra, nut production but negatively correlated with percentage of nul shedding. These results implies that increase organic matter content in the soil will increase coconut production including fruit set Nitrogen concentration in the leaf was positively and highly signiicantly correlated with number of nut shedding These finding suggested that the increased nitrogen concentration in the leaf greatly promotes nul production and fruit set of the palms under various cropping patterns in coconut The potassium in the leaf was significantly correlated with nul production but negatively correlated with percentage of nut shedding. Salah satu cara untuk meningkatkan produktivitas yaitu melalui penerapan usahatani kelapa campuran. Suatu kenyataan bahwa penerapan intercropping menyebabkan tanaman kelapa lebih produktif dibandingkan dengan tanaman monokultur. Untuk mengetahu sejauh mana pengaruh tersebut secara ilmiah, serta hubungannya terhadap unsur hara tanah dan unsur hara dalam daun kelapa maka dilakukan penelitian secara terencana pada pertanaman kelapa rakyat produktif. Tujuan penelitian ini (1) untuk mengetahui pengaruh pola tanam terhadap petumbuhan dan produksi tanaman kelapa, terhadap unsur hara dalam tanah dan kadar hara daun kelapa dan (2) mcmpelajari korelasi antara parameter petumbuhan dan produksi kelapa dengan hara tanah serta kadar unsur hara daun. Enam polatanam kelapa yang diuji dalam penelitian ini yaitu (1) kelapa monokultur, (2) pola tanam kelapa + nanas, (3) pola tanam kelapa * kopi, (4) pola tanam kelapa + papaya + nanas , (5) pola tanam kelapa + pisang ♦ kopi dan (6) pola tanam kelapa + pisang + papaya ♦ kopi + nanas dimana masing-masing pola tanam seluas 0.5 ha. Jarak tanam kelapa 8 m x 10 m, dengan umur 40-45 tahun. Penelitian dilakukan di Silang, Cavite. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (randomized complete block design) dengan tiga ulangan. Parameter yang diamali meliputi jumlah daun, jumlah bunga betina (button) per tandan, kadar unsur hara tanah meliputi kandungan bahan organik, pH, CEC, Nitrogen, Phosphor, Calcium, dan Magnesium. Sedangkan unsur hara daun yaitu Nitrogen, Phosphor, Calsium, dan Magnesium. Analisis korelasi dilakukan terhadap (1) pertumbuhan dan produksi kelapa dengan unsur hara tanah, dan unsur hara daun dan (2) hubungan antar unsur hara daun kelapa pada beberapa polatanam kelapa yang ditclili. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa produksi buah dan kopra pada polatanam campuran lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan hasil pola tanam kelapa monokultur. Peningkatan produksi buah 64-98 persen dan kopra 70-105 persen. Kadar nitrogen pada lapisan atas tanah mempunyai korelasi positif dengan berat kopra dan produksi buah. Sedangkan unsur kalium pada lapisan tanah yang sama mempunyai korelasi positif dengan produksi buah kelapa Kandungan bahan organik tanah mempunyai korelasi positif dengan berat kopra, produksi buah namun berkorelasi negatip dengan presentase buah yang gugur (nut shedding) Hasil ini berimplikasi bahwa dengan meningkatnya kadar bahan organik tanah akan meningkatkan produktivitas tanaman kelapa. Lebih lanjut, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kadar nitrogen dan kalium pada daun mempunyai korelasi positif dengan peningkatan produksi kelapa dan persentasi buah yang jadi.</p><p>Kata kunci: Produksi kelapa, polatanam, unsur hara tanah, kadar unsur daun, analisis korelasi</p>

The pandemic of COVID-19 has afflicted every individual and has initiated a cascade of directly or indirectly involved events in precipitating mental health issues. The human species is a wanderer and hunter-gatherer by nature, and physical social distancing and nationwide lockdown have confined an individual to physical isolation. The present review article was conceived to address psychosocial and other issues and their aetiology related to the current pandemic of COVID-19. The elderly age group has most suffered the wrath of SARS-CoV-2, and social isolation as a preventive measure may further induce mental health issues. Animal model studies have demonstrated an inappropriate interacting endogenous neurotransmitter milieu of dopamine, serotonin, glutamate, and opioids, induced by social isolation that could probably lead to observable phenomena of deviant psychosocial behavior. Conflicting and manipulated information related to COVID-19 on social media has also been recognized as a global threat. Psychological stress during the current pandemic in frontline health care workers, migrant workers, children, and adolescents is also a serious concern. Mental health issues in the current situation could also be induced by being quarantined, uncertainty in business, jobs, economy, hampered academic activities, increased screen time on social media, and domestic violence incidences. The gravity of mental health issues associated with the pandemic of COVID-19 should be identified at the earliest. Mental health organization dedicated to current and future pandemics should be established along with Government policies addressing psychological issues to prevent and treat mental health issues need to be developed. Abstract:
This examination assesses the impact of blending proportion (1, 1.5, 2 and 2.5) and chemical pre-treatment on the anaerobic co-processing of banana strips and water hyacinth. Two plans of bio-engineered methane potential (BMP) tests were performed all the while. Banana strips was blended with untreated water hyacinth in set I, and water hyacinth be pretreated before co-absorption in set II. Intent measure of bovine compost and dairy animals pee was added to every reactor as an inoculum. The anaerobic group test revealed that set II, where pre-treated banana strips and water hyacinth was co-handled, demonstrated high biogas creation and favoured nature of biogas over set I. Blending proportion 1.5 and 2 were outlined to be the ideal blending proportion for set I and II individually. Both the sets represented high biogas age than mono-processing of the substrates. In this way, anaerobic co-absorption of banana strips and water hyacinth depict a synergic activity via adjusting the general procedure. The purpose of this peculiar analysis was to scrutinize the repercussion of different mixing ratios and chemical pre-treatment on the anaerobic co-digestion process

Abstract:
Introduction: Sleep disturbances are associated with increased healthcare costs and negative health outcomes. Oestrogen levels decrease after menopause, which may also be accompanied by deterioration in cognitive function along with the symptoms of depression and depressive disorders. Need for the study: The need of the study is evident in postmenopausal women, where physiological changes lead to a decline in vital hormones such as oestrogen and melatonin, contributing to anxiety, depression, and obstructive sleep apnoea. Consuming fruits rich in tryptophan which is a precursor of melatonin and serotonin can reduce sleep disorders and enhance sleep quality. Fruits containing tryptophan and melatonin can improve the sleep quality of healthy adults when consumed for seven days. Bananas are the prime example of nutritious food which enhances the mood-boosting benefits of serotonin. Deep breathing exercises are effective in reducing menopausal symptoms and help to manage stress related to life and menopause. Aim: To evaluate and compare the efficacy of a combination of banana consumption and deep breathing exercises with banana consumption alone and deep breathing exercises alone for managing sleep deprivation, anxiety, and depression among post-menopausal women. Materials and Methods: A random 3-arm parallel intervention study will be carried out at Acharya Vinoba Bhave Rural Hospital, Sawangi Meghe Wardha, and Near Mai Hospital, Gandhi Nagar Arvi Naka Wardha, Maharashtra, India. The study will be conducted from May 2023 to May 2026. A random sampling technique will be used to select the sample. A total of 135 post-menopausal women, meeting the inclusion criteria will be chosen for the study. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) will be used to evaluate sleep deprivation, the self-rating anxiety and depression scale will be used to assess depression and anxiety, and serum magnesium tests along with demographic variables will be recorded. Statistical analysis will be performed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), among the outcome variables between the three groups. A p-value less than 0.05 will be considered as statistically significant.
