Abstract:
ABSTRACTthe baller-gerold syndrome is a rare syndrome with very few cases published in literature. craniosynostosis and radial aplasia are striking features, easy to diagnose. however, there are many differential diagnoses. often, the question raised is whether the baller-gerald syndrome is a distinct entity. we report a patient with findings of craniosynostosis and radial aplasia consistent with the diagnosis of the baller-gerold syndrome. genotypic heterogeneity could possibly underlie the phenotypic variability exhibited by these cases.

Abstract:
We considered identity variation among Brazilian university student-athletes in relation to their gender, sport type, competition level, and university type. Participants were 506 student-athletes (219 males and 287 females) from public and private Brazilian universities, competing in team and individual sports, at local, state, and national levels. We used multilevel regression and poststratification to estimate each participant’s identity from the aforementioned variables. Gender and sport type were not associated with any substantial identify variation, but there were higher values on Baller Identity Measurement Scale dimensions for student-athletes from public versus private universities, and student-athletes competing at the highest level had lower Baller Identity Measurement Scale values compared to peers competing at lower levels. Overall, university type and sport competitive level were the contextual factors that most influenced Brazilian student-athletes’ identities.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to contextualize and analyze the lyrics of Tupac Shakur by using the research methodological approach of concatenation to merge hip-hop and sport so that the qualitative data from these songs might serve as a cultural map to constructs of identity, race, social class, and black masculinity in the context of sport and the black male athlete experience in America. Applying critical race theory and White’s framework of black masculinity and the politics of racial performance, a connection is made with themes of the artists’ (rapper) social commentary and the athlete (baller). The themes from Tupac Shakur’s lyrics are follows: (a) Trapped, (b) Against the World, (c) The Streetz R Death, and (d) Ambitionz. Synergy with the rapper and baller are articulated, as well as implications for scholars and practitioners that work with high school, collegiate, and professional black male athletes, along with other men of color.

Abstract:
River debris in Jakarta is generated in several locations by conventional transportation. Waste transportation with traditional models is usually not time-efficient, primarily when river debris is generated every time. Transport systems that can be used for river debris include compactor systems, pre-compactor systems, and baller systems. This research uses literature study and secondary data in determining alternatives. Meanwhile, the alternative selection was carried out using the Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) method. This study uses four criteria for selecting alternatives: initial capital, type of transport container, operation and maintenance, and processing capability. The utility value of waste transportation with compaction and pre-compacting systems does not significantly have utility values of 0.722 and 0.833, respectively. At the same time, the baller system has a utility value of 0.222. This shows that the compacted system is more suitable to be applied to SPA river debris in Jakarta. The presence of a pr-compactor can also reduce the water content in-river debris.

Abstract:
Baseball and rap music are often not considered culturally or historically synonymous, but a shift appears underway. This research examines how 239 rap lyrics reach across the formerly confined (mostly racialized) boundaries of baseball to engage the sport through its reference to 128 baseball players. A thematic analysis explores how the languages of baseball and rap culture intersect through linguistic translation. The authors develop a broad understanding of the positive and negative “baller” references, and how it could affect the future growth of baseball role models for Black youth athletes. Thus, baseball “text” as a source language translates to rap “text” as a target language to form a commonly constructed language at an intersection of music, sports, and masculinity.

Abstract:
The intersection of education, sport, and identity are important topics for urban education and educators. Using data collected from interviews with 27 African American male college athletes, the current study investigated the lived experiences of this demographic group as they formed ideas about “self” within the realm of higher education. Our findings revealed that their definition of masculinity was at the core of their identities. In addition, participants saw themselves as more than athletes—They were scholars and productive members of surrounding communities. Furthermore, interactions with women, teammates, and non-athletic peers influenced participants’ self-perceptions. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Abstract:
Abstract The current study applied Robert’s lovemarks theory of branding to interpret a photo-elicitation approach of two academic/athletic brand representations. Three major themes emerged from the participants (N = 88) in the study of the Thinkman logo image: a) Intellectual Enhancement; b) Athlete; and c) Hard Work. By eliciting responses from the participants (N = 75) regarding the term Scholar-Baller , the following three themes emerged: a) Amazing Scholar & Exceptional Athlete; b) Top Student; and c) Student-Athlete. The current findings indicate many of the participants responded favorably to the photo-elicitation of two academic/athletic terms and logos. The participants also critiqued both representations in the context of the broader and specific discourses about the student-athlete experience in American higher education. Implications and recommendations for scholars and practitioners are suggested.

Abstract:
Professional athletes and entertainers are often identified as the source of emulation for young males, especially Black males. With far less romanticized career representations than those in the athletic arena, many Black families foster, knowingly and unknowingly, a polarized path to elusive goals of a professional athletic career. Explicitly focusing on academically gifted Black males who are also athletically talented, gifted education teachers have an opportunity to support and cultivate dual identity development complement both athletic and scholar identities, acknowledging the cultural significance sport and athletics play. This article seeks to provide gifted education teachers with a framework to fulfill these goals—the Scholar Baller Model. Through its integration into the curriculum, gifted education teachers can enrich the pre-college experiences of academically and athletically gifted Black males, resulting in more positive convergence of their academic and athletic identities that will, in turn, cultivate more positive educational outcomes and career options for collegiate-level Black athletes.
