Abstract:
This study attempts to assess the role of basin morphometric parameters in slope instability using a morphometric diversity (MD) model, as well as the role of drainage parameters and relief parameters in slope failure using drainage diversity (DD) and relief diversity (RD) models, respectively. For this, a total of 14 morphometric data layers were considered. The relationship of each data layer to landslide susceptibility was judged using a frequency ratio (FR) approach. Parameters like drainage density (Dd), drainage frequency (Df), relative relief (Rr), drainage texture (Dt), junction frequency (Jf), infiltration number (In), ruggedness index (Ri), dissection index (Di), elevation (E), slope (S), relief ratio (Rra) and hypsometric integral (Hi) were positively related with landslide potentiality while bifurcation ratio (Rb) and drainage intensity (Din) negatively correlated with S failure. The principal component analysis (PCA)-based weight assigned to each data layer in each model was multiplied with unidirectional reclassified data layers for each model using a weighted linear combination (WLC) approach to prepare landslide susceptibility maps. The receiver operating characteristics curve showed that the landslide prediction accuracy of the DD, RD and MD models were 71.4%, 73.9% and 76.3%, respectively. The FR plots of the aforesaid three models suggested that the chance of landslide increases from very low to very high in susceptible zones.

Abstract:
Face-centered cubic lattice F C C ( n ) has received extensive consideration as of late, inferable from its recognized properties and non-poisonous nature, minimal effort, plenitude, and basic creation process. The graph of a face-centered cubic cross-section contains cube points and face centres. A topological index of a molecular graph G is a numeric amount identified with G, which depicts its topological properties. In this paper, using graph theory tools, we computed the molecular descriptors (topological indices)—to be specific, Zagreb-type indices, a forgotten index, a Balaban index, the fourth version of an atom–bond connectivity index, and the fifth version of a geometric arithmetic index for face-centered cubic lattice F C C ( n ) .

Abstract:
The article presents results of archaeological survey conducted by G. A. Pytlyakov, the Lecturer of the Yakut State Pedagogical Institute, in the Oymyakonsky District of Yakutia in 1955. The works under discussion resulting in the discovery of materials related to the Yakut first-settlers in the territory: remains of balagan-type housing structures, traces of urasa-type temporary portable dwellings, ground burials, and petroglyphs. It has been noted that the economy and material culture of the Upper Indigirka Yakuts had a number of features determined by harsh natural conditions of the region. An opinion has been expressed that, in the past, the Oymyakon yakuts were not engaged in cattle breeding, as their settlements were located in the places neither convenient nor suitable for cattle breeding. It has been assumed that the Ingigirka basin may have a certain potential for searching other petroglyphs.

Abstract:
This study is developed in collaboration with a large Swedish fashion company that has had recurring problems with the balance between front and back of women's jackets. The problem arises regardless of which supplier has made the pattern or which test person is testing the garment. The purpose of the study is to investigate what causes balance problems between front and back of women’s jackets and how it can be corrected. The study examines various constructions from literature, which are further worked on to achieve a good fit. The final design is then compared to the company's jacket that receives balance problems to see what actions should be taken on these jackets. The study is performed through pattern design in a CAD program, then prototypes are being sewn. Finally they are tested on one dummy, three test persons and it is also tested virtual on an avatar in a 3D simulation program. The differences in fit between the unbalanced jacket and the new balanced prototype are analyzed during tests. The result shows a basic pattern of a jacket where the company's recurring balance problems have been corrected. During the study it appears that the balance problems between the front and the back are linked to how long or short the lapel is. The tilt of the shoulder seam is also of great importance for the garment's balance.

Full text
Abstract:
This is the first study of the behaviour and habitat preferences of bowhead whales ('Balaena mysticetus') in northern Foxe Basin, Nunavut, Canada. The study is divided into two parts; the first part examined the characteristics of bowhead habitat and the second part describes the behaviour of bowheads during the ice-edge season. Characteristics of bowhead habitat were identified by quantifying relationships between habitat variables (water depth, surface temperatures, ice conditions, and zooplankton densities) and the distribution of whales recorded during strip-transect surveys through a 4 x 4 km quadrat system, in July and August 1997. Two study areas were examined: "A" was examined in July (ice-edge season), when land-fast ice was present on the northern edge of the study area and "B" was examined in August (open-water season), when pack ice is present. Relationships between habitat variables and whale distribution were identified with Mantel tests. The second part of the study examined the behavior of bowheads during the ice-edge. Abstract:
Fossil species of Balaena have previously been named on the basis of material from the Western Hemisphere, but all are founded upon undiagnostic material. The holotype of B. ricei new species consists of a partial skull, partial mandible, all major flipper bones, and representatives of all types of vertebrae, allowing comparison with the two best-known European species. This study, together with the known occurrence of Balaena species in the Pliocene of Europe, strengthens the conclusion that bowhead whales were present on both sides of the North Atlantic Ocean at that time. By contrast, remains of Balaena have not been reported from Miocene deposits of the Atlantic coast of North America.

Abstract:
AbstractBowhead whales (Balaena mysticetus) have adopted growth and reproductive strategies to survive in a challenging environment where no other mysticete whales reside. They grow slowly, become sexually mature at around 25 years (later than other mammals), and do not give birth until they have sufficient energy reserves for the best possible chance of survival of the calf to weaning and long-term survival of the mother. To compensate for late maturity and long inter-birth intervals, some seem to have the capability to live to 200+ years of age, making them the longest-lived mammal known to date. Bowhead whale males have large testes per body size, and it is hypothesized that the basic polygynandrous system of females and males mating with multiple partners per estrous cycle allows for males to not compete violently against each other. Instead, they use sperm competition by volume of sperm for enhanced capability to father as many offspring as possible. Also, as in right whales (Eubalaena spp.), the length of the penis is proportionally longer than those of balaenopterids. Details of sperm volume, potential variabilities of sperm viabilities, and actual paternities are unknown, but some patterns can be inferred from the closely related right whales with similar morphologies.

Abstract:
Floods are one of the most recognized natural hazards that create havoc in society. Flooding involves inundation of a huge tract of area under water owing to heavy rainfall. The occurrence of flooding lays a severe impact upon the agricultural sector. The Balason River basin in Darjeeling district of West Bengal is not an exception in this regard. The basin is one of the most flood-prone areas and involves a lot of loss in crop production and destruction of villages. The present study aims to identify the flood susceptible zones of the district through the application of analytical hierarchy process and geospatial techniques, and also makes an attempt to detect how much settlements and croplands fall within the high susceptible flood prone area so that proper precautionary measures can be taken to minimize the maximum damage.

Abstract:
Abstract The Bovallius field, located in the southeastern part of Trinidad is bordered to the west by the Balata East block and to the south by the Ortoire block. The field spans approximately 942 acres with six wells drilled in the block to date, the first well being drilled in 1954. Regionally the Bovallius field occurs on trend with a WSW plunging, SE verging thrusted anticlinal system. The major tectonic features within the Bovallius field consists of the eastern extension of the Balata anticline which is truncated by several NE-SW trending thrust faults, several NW-SE trending normal faults and bordered to the east by the NE-S/SW Cedar Grove fault. Previous evaluations done on the Bovallius field resulted in little prospectivity for the block. Recent discovery wells within the Ortoire Block, created renewed interest over the Bovallius field. It is known from analogous fields that there are three structural limbs which occur in the Herrera formation: Overthrust, Intermediate and Sub-thrust. Field wide mapping indicated that most of the wells within the Bovallius field penetrated three thrust sheets within the Overthrust limb only. As such the undrilled Intermediate and Sub-thrust limbs present an exploration opportunity within the field. Sand maps constructed on the producing reservoirs show that these sands trend in a NE-SW direction with the thickest accumulations occurring sub-parallel to the axis of the anticline. Similarly, as seen in the Penal/Barrackpore and Cascadura fields, within the Bovallius field the anticlinal system plunges to the SW with NW-SE trending normal faults dissecting the anticlinal feature. The most prospective areas tend to be in the eastern crestal structurally up-dip parts of these fault blocks. This updated model resulted in three outstep prospects. Field development in the southern part of the Bovallius block was heavily influenced by Balata East wells, BE-6, and BE-19. These wells are located on the southern flank of the Balata anticline and encountered the Herrera sands wet. At the time it was believed that as the majority of the Bovallius block lies downdip of these wet wells, the Herrera sands would also be wet over this acreage. However, on examination of some of the surrounding wells in the area, this assumption has been relooked. There is a thrust fault running in a NE-SW direction, south of the wet Balata wells which allow for hydrocarbon accumulation within the OL-4/Royston area. This makes the southern part of the Bovallius block prospective for the Herrera sands.
