Abstract:
Suffocation by plastic bag is not common. The finding of a body at the scene of death with a plastic bag in situ could be diagnostically valuable to the pathologist. Otherwise the pathologist may be hard put to arrive at a firm opinion as to how the deceased met his/her death; in fact, in three of the cases reported in this paper, the local pathologist could not give a cause of death when the initial autopsy was performed. Plastic bags could be accidentally placed over the head; put there to help in the inhalation of volatile substances; with homicidal intention; or simply as an effective suicidal method. The object of this paper is to study the cases where bodies were found with a plastic bag over the head, and in particular the cases where the cause of death was due to plastic bag suffocation.

Abstract:
Bombesin receptor subtype-3 (BRS-3) regulates energy homeostasis, and BRS-3 agonism is being explored as a possible therapy for obesity. Here we study the role of BRS-3 in the regulation of glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) and glucose homeostasis. We quantified BRS-3 mRNA in pancreatic islets from multiple species and examined the acute effects of Bag-1, a selective BRS-3 agonist, on GSIS in mouse, rat, and human islets, and on oral glucose tolerance in mice. BRS-3 is highly expressed in human, mouse, rhesus, and dog (but not rat) pancreatic islets and in rodent insulinoma cell lines (INS-1 832/3 and MIN6). Silencing BRS-3 with small interfering RNA or pharmacological blockade with a BRS-3 antagonist, Bantag-1, reduced GSIS in 832/3 cells. In contrast, the BRS-3 agonist (Bag-1) increased GSIS in 832/3 and MIN6 cells. The augmentation of GSIS by Bag-1 was completely blocked by U73122, a phospholipase C inhibitor. Bag-1 also enhanced GSIS in islets isolated from wild-type, but not Brs3 knockout mice. In vivo, Bag-1 reduced glucose levels during oral glucose tolerance test in a BRS-3-dependent manner. BRS-3 agonists also increased GSIS in human islets. These results identify a potential role for BRS-3 in islet physiology, with agonism directly promoting GSIS. Thus, in addition to its potential role in the treatment of obesity, BRS-3 may also regulate blood glucose levels and have a role in the treatment of diabetes mellitus.

Abstract:
Abstract The expression and function of the newly identified Bcl-2- and Raf-1- binding protein, Bag-1, during the cytokine-regulated growth of B and T cell lines was examined. Immunoblot analysis of lysates from the interleukin-3 (IL-3)-dependent B cell line Ba/F3, and the PRL-dependent T cell line Nb2, revealed that variations in Bag-1 levels paralleled alterations in cellular proliferation, viability, and apoptosis induced by the presence or absence of growth factor. To test whether up-regulation of Bag-1 levels altered cellular survival and proliferation, Ba/F3 cells were transfected with a Bag-1 expression construct. The overexpression of Bag-1 in transfected Ba/F3 cells induced an IL-3-independent state. Such transfectants demonstrated sustained viability and proliferation, with minimal apoptosis, in the complete absence of exogenous IL-3. Bag-1 expression was also compared in glucocorticoid-sensitive Nb2 cells and a PRL-independent, glucocorticoid-resistant subline, SFJCD1, during culture of these lines in dexamethasone (Dex). Bag-1 levels were profoundly decreased by the addition of Dex to Nb2 cells, precedent to the onset of apoptotic cell death. In contrast, Dex treatment or PRL withdrawal had no effect on levels of Bag-1 within the SFJCD1 line. These findings establish that the overexpression of Bag-1 in the appropriate cellular context promotes cellular survival and growth, events that may result from the juxtaposition of this protein with mitogenic and antiapoptotic signaling pathways.

Abstract:
Im Mittelpunkt des Beitrages von Kirsten Wiese steht ein Urteil des Bundesarbeitsgerichts (BAG) vom 27. August 2020.

Abstract:
Objective 3-Deoxyglucosone (3-DG) and acetaldehyde were found to be the major reactive carbonyl compounds in conventional heat-sterilized peritoneal dialysis fluids (PDFs). The aim of this study was to identify factors in the production of PDFs promoting or inhibiting the formation of acetaldehyde and 3-DG. Design Single-chamber bag PDFs with different buffer systems and pH values were analyzed for acetaldehyde. 3-Deoxyglucosone was determined in double-chamber bag PDFs with different pH values, in commercially available samples, and in double-chamber products stored under defined conditions. Results Acetaldehyde was found in the presence of lactate and malate, whereas in 2-hydroxybutanoate-buffered solution propionaldehyde was detected instead. Between pH 5.0 and 6.0 the acetaldehyde content in lactate-buffered solutions increased strongly. The concentration of 3-DG in the chamber containing glucose in double-chamber bags increased between pH 3.0 and 5.0 by a factor of 6. 3-Deoxyglucosone concentrations in commercially available products vary greatly, reflecting the different pH values of these products. A time- and temperature-dependent reaction leads to a reduction in 3-DG and an increase in 5-hydroxymethyl-furan-2-carbaldehyde during storage. Conclusion Acetaldehyde is produced by a reaction that requires both lactate and glucose. Thus, its formation can be prevented by a separation of the reaction partners, glucose and lactate, in a double-chamber bag. In double-chamber bags, pH greatly influences the formation of 3-DG. Minimal formation is observed in the region of pH 3.0. This finding should be taken into account for the development of new double-chamber bag PDFs.

Abstract:
AbstractAn efficient classification method to categorize histopathological images is a challenging research problem. In this paper, an improved bag-of-features approach is presented as an efficient image classification method. In bag-of-features, a large number of keypoints are extracted from histopathological images that increases the computational cost of the codebook construction step. Therefore, to select the a relevant subset of keypoints, a new keypoints selection method is introduced in the bag-of-features method. To validate the performance of the proposed method, an extensive experimental analysis is conducted on two standard histopathological image datasets, namely ADL and Blue histology datasets. The proposed keypoint selection method reduces the extracted high dimensional features by 95% and 68% from the ADL and Blue histology datasets respectively with less computational time. Moreover, the enhanced bag-of-features method increases classification accuracy by from other considered classification methods.

Abstract:
Oyster mushroom growers are generally confused about the scientific basis of the cultivation technology with regard to the best bag opening method after a spawn run. The present study was undertaken to find out the effect of four different methods of bag opening on yield, benefit cost ratio (BCR) and biological efficiency of oyster mushrooms during November, 2020 to March, 2021. The results indicated that treatment-2 (retaining the polythene bag for the entire cultivation period) exhibited significantly the highest yield (1644.61 g bed-1) followed by treatment-3 (opening top part of the polythene bag after spawn run) (1536.62 g bed-1), and treatment-1 (opening top and bottom part of the polythene bag (1468.82 g bed-1) and treatment-4 (complete removal of the polythene bag) (1111.19 g). The BCR was also found to be the highest (4.39) in treatment-2 followed by treatment-3 (4.09), treatment-1 (3.96) and treatment-4 (2.98). Retaining the polythene bag during the entire cultivation period was found to be the best method of cultivation with regard to biological efficiency (82.23%). Opening the top part of the polythene bag after the spawn run showed the biological efficiency of 76.83% which was followed by the treatment with opening the polythene bag from the top and bottom part of the bed (73.44%).The lowest biological efficiency (55.56%) was observed in the treatment in which the entire polythene bag was removed after a spawn run in darkroom. Mushroom growers may retain the polythene bag surrounding the mushroom bed during the entire cultivation period for better economic return.

Abstract:
Bcl-2-associated athanogene 1 (Bag-1) is a multifunctional and antiapoptotic protein that binds to the antiapoptosis regulator Bcl-2 and promotes cell survival. To investigate the protective function of Bag-1, we examined the effects of Bag-1L, one isoform of Bag-1, in an in vitro cell culture model of lung ischemia-reperfusion injury (LIRI) generated by treatment of A549 cells with hypoxia/reoxygenation. Overexpression of full-length Bag-1L increased the viability of A549 cells and reduced cell apoptosis in response to 6 h of hypoxia/reoxygenation treatment. Furthermore, Bag-1L overexpression enhanced the heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) and Bcl-2 protein levels, increased the phosphorylation of AKT, decreased Bax and cleaved caspase-3 levels, and was able to overcome cell cycle arrest. These effects were not observed in A549 cells overexpressing a truncated form of Bag-1L lacking the “Bag domain,” denoted Bag-1L△C. The “Bag domain” is the C-terminal 47 amino acids. Taken together, the results of this study suggest that Bag-1L overexpression can protect against oxidative stress and apoptosis in an in vitro LIRI model, with a dependence on the Bag domain.

Abstract:
Pegloticase is a highly effective treatment for refractory gouty arthropathy. Unfortunately, the medication is also highly immunogenic, leading to infusion reactions, loss of drug efficacy and anaphylaxis. Desensitisation, a procedure to tolerise a patient to a medication previously causing a hypersensitivity reaction, has been used successfully in oncology for chemotherapy treatment. The same principle can be applied to other specialties. Presented is a 48-year-old man who experienced multiple, severe infusion reactions to pegloticase administered for gouty arthropathy. A rapid desensitisation was performed using an outpatient, 3-bag, 12-step protocol, which allowed multiple additional pegloticase infusions to be performed without incident. This is the first reported case of a patient successfully desensitised after an infusion reaction to pegloticase. Though additional patients are needed to confirm these results, this represents a significant opportunity to recapture and continue pegloticase therapy in patients treated for refractory gouty arthropathy.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of silanization of the glass on denture base materials and to evaluate different types of glasses. A total of 136 Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) (Palapress – Heraeus Kulzer) blocks were prepared in dimensions of 65mm x 10mm x 3mm. PMMA blocks were modified by different ratios of non-silanized and silanized Bioactive Glass Granules (BAG) (Vivoxid) and Inert Glass Granules (IG) (Vivoxid). The blocks were polished under water cooling and divided into 17 groups. (Group 1) No glass (control), (Group 2-5) 3-6-9-12% non-silanized BAG, (Group 6-9) 3-6-9-12% silanized BAG, (Group 10-13) 3-6-9-12% non-silanized IG, (Group 14-17) 3-6-9-12% silanized IG. The specimens were stored in distilled water and weighed (Mettler, Toledo) in days of 1, 2, 3, 7, 14, 21, 30, 45, 60. After water sorption test, the specimens were dried under 80°C and weighed in days of 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9 for calculating the solubility values. Statistical analysis was performed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by post-hoc comparisons (Dunnett T3, p<0.05). Water sorption and solubility values were significantly affected by the type and silanizaion of the glass (p<0.05). The highest water sorption value was observed in 12% silanized IG group (1,83±0,04%), whereas the lowest sorption values were recorded with 12% non-silanized BAG group (1,21±0,07%). Contrarily, The highest solubility value was observed in 12% non-silanized BAG group (0,98±0,03%), whereas the lowest solubility values were recorded with 12% non-silanized BAG group (0,34±0,03%). Water sorption and solubility values were affected by the type and silanization of the glass. Silanization improved the physical properties of the glass as well as the properties of the denture base material.

Abstract:
White spot lesions (WSLs), a side effect of orthodontic treatment, can result in reversible and unaesthetic results. Graphene oxide (GO) with a bioactive glass (BAG) mixture (BAG@GO) was added to Low-Viscosity Transbond XT (LV) in a ratio of 1, 3, and 5%. The composite’s characterization and its physical and biological properties were verified with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD); its microhardness, shear bond strength (SBS), cell viability, and adhesive remnant index (ARI) were also assessed. Efficiency in reducing WSL was evaluated using antibacterial activity of S. mutans. Anti-demineralization was analyzed using a cycle of the acid-base solution. Adhesives with 3 wt.% or 5 wt.% of BAG@GO showed significant increase in microhardness compared with LV. The sample and LV groups showed no significant differences in SBS or ARI. The cell viability test confirmed that none of the sample groups showed higher toxicity compared to the LV group. Antibacterial activity was higher in the 48-h group than in the 24 h group; the 48 h test showed that BAG@GO had a high antibacterial effect, which was more pronounced in 5 wt.% of BAG@GO. Anti-demineralization effect was higher in the BAG@GO-group than in the LV-group; the higher the BAG@GO concentration, the higher the anti-demineralization effect.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Alfalfa was ensiled at 270 (wet) or 400 (control) g DM kg−1 as long forage in plastic-wrapped big round bales (bale) or chopped (1.25 cm) and compacted (bag). The pH of the bag silages were lower (P < 0.01) throughout the 60-d observation period and stabilized at 4.7 ± 0.1 by day 3. The pH of the bale silages fell gradually to 5.5 by day 60. Lactic acid content was initially higher (P < 0.01) in the bag silages but by day 10 it was similar in the two types of silage. Acetic acid contents also were higher (P < 0.01) in bag than in bale silages and in wet than in control at day 1 and these differences persisted through day 60. Protein degradation was extensive in all silages as indicated by NH3-N and non-protein N contents at day 60 but it was more extensive in bale than in bag (P < 0.01) and in wet than in control (P < 0.05) silages. Lactobacilli counts were higher (P < 0.05) in bag than in bale silages at day 3 but the differences did not persist. Yeast and Clostridia counts and butyric acid contents were higher in bale than in bag silages in later stages of fermentation. None of the silages was well preserved, probably because of the low water-soluble carbohydrate content of the forage, but all were well accepted by sheep. Digestibility of the ADF fraction was higher (P < 0.05) for bale than for bag silages. Key words: Big bale, silage, ensiling characteristics, moisture level, bagged silage

<p>Abstrak. The conventional security system in the form of a mechanical locking system using a password on a suitcase-shaped bag causes problems when the user forgets the combination of the password number. The conventional lock system also has several weaknesses, such as: there is no notification or notification that the bag has been forcibly opened without proper access by the interested person. This article proposes a Smart Bag model with an Arduino Nano Microcontroller-based security system, using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) as an open and closing access, using a magnetic sensor that functions as an alarm (buzzer) and generates a notification in the form of an SMS gateway using the GSM SIM800L module. if the bag is forcibly opened, as well as a tracking system where the bag is located through the Global Positioning System (GPS) Module. The effectiveness of the model is tested in 3 ways, namely: Security System, System Accuracy in delivering GPSbased Notifications, and the accuracy of the alarm generator system. From 6 attempts, the RFID successfully identified 3 legal accesses and 3 illegal accesses, the alarm buzzer was successfully sounded and the GSM SIM-800L Module sent a notification. The GPS-based notification system has managed to track the exact position of the bag from all 8 tests. The system also succeeded in generating the alarm system correctly from a total of 8 tests. Abstract:
GageTek LLC in Rancho Cordova, CA, is working on a load cell to make the air bag safer for the passenger at risk. The company has designed a system consisting of torsion-sensing load cells that calculate the weight as well as the position of the passenger. A load cell, shown on a motorized seat with side air bag in the article, measures the weight and position of front-seat car passengers to help minimize the risk of air bag-related injuries. The load cells are placed at each corner of the seat. The position of the occupant is calculated by determining the passenger’s center of mass. Position sensing is accurate to several centimetres. GageTek ‘s load cell, which it calls a torsional sensing load cell (TSLC), is a U-shaped piece of metal that acts like a spring. The load cell works the way a spring does, by converting linear force to a torsional force, or twisting, at the other end. The TSLCs are placed at each corner of the seat. Calculation of the center of gravity, or position of the occupant, is done by determining the seat occupant’s center of mass.
