Abstract:
In Spain, students pursuing a career in athletic training, physical education, or scientific evaluation of sports enroll in a bachelor’s degree in sports sciences. This degree provides knowledge and skills in a broad array of sports settings and promotes research-based interdisciplinary knowledge. However, the student’s syllabus rarely includes specific academic training on anti-doping regulations or doping prevention. The purpose of this study was to assess the anti-doping knowledge of the students undertaking a bachelor’s degree in sports sciences in Spanish universities. One thousand two hundred and thirty-three bachelor students in sport science (907 males, 322 females, and 4 participants with non-binary sex) from 26 Spanish universities completed a validated questionnaire about general anti-doping knowledge. The questionnaire is an adapted version of the Play True Quiz of the World Anti-Doping Agency and contains 37 multiple-choice questions. The score obtained in the questionnaire was transformed into a 0–100-point scale. The questionnaire was distributed among students within each university by a faculty member and it was filled out online. Students obtained a score of 65.8 ± 10.10 points (range = 32–92 points). There was an effect of the course in the score obtained (p < 0.001). Students of the first course (63.6 ± 9.5 points) had lower scores than the remaining courses (p < 0.037) while the students of the fourth course obtained the highest scores (68.7 ± 9.5 points; p < 0.019). The students with an itinerary on sports performance were the respondents with the highest anti-doping knowledge (67.2 ± 10.2) points, followed by the students with an itinerary on health (66.7 ± 9.5 points). The knowledge of basic anti-doping rules and doping prevention strategies of the bachelor students in sports sciences in Spain was suboptimal. Increasing doping prevention information in the syllabus of the bachelor’s degree in sports sciences is essential as these future professionals will directly work with populations at risk of doping.

Abstract:
The article examines the problems and prospects for improving the training of lawyers in Ukraine. It is emphasized that the current state of Ukrainian legal education is close to critical: the number of law graduates is much higher than the market demand, entrants show low results in entrance exams for law and employers are dissatisfied with their level of professional knowledge. Training of lawyers in Ukraine is carried out in the "degree" form: the possibility of obtaining legal education in educational degrees "junior specialist", "specialist", "junior bachelor", "professional junior bachelor", "bachelor", "master". In the introductory campaign of 2021, 286 Ukrainian educational institutions opened their doors to lawyers: 245 – "classical", which are subordinated to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine; 25 – "departmental", which are subordinated to the central executive bodies; 16 – private. It is departmental educational institutions that received 61.8% of the total state order of bachelors in the specialty 081 "Law", which significantly exceeds the amount received by "classical" educational institutions. The authors believe that this approach is unfair to entrants in law inconsistent with the provisions of Part 4 of Article 53 of the Constitution of Ukraine: "Citizens have the right to receive free higher education in state and municipal educational institutions on a competitive basis". This necessitates the improvement of the provisions of the Conditions of Admission to Legal Specialties to ensure justice as an important component of the rule of law. In recent years, Ukraine has been trying to find and implement an effective training model that would optimize and significantly improve the professional level of future lawyers, meet international standards and practices, could ensure the competitiveness of the best graduates and their employment. According to the Concept for the Development of Legal Education, this is seen as a model of "end-to-end master's degree" – a five-year training program for lawyers with a master's degree immediately after completing general secondary education (no bachelor's degree). According to the results of the study, the authors emphasize the urgent need to improve national educational legislation, taking into account the positive experience of training lawyers in foreign countries and its adaptation to international standards and practices.

Abstract:
Magister Public Health - MPH
An urgent need to rapidly increase the size and capacity of the health workforce to manage the health system in Namibia motivated the development of a Bachelor of Nursing Science degree which has been offered at a distance since 1997 at the University of Namibia. The programme is delivered from the University’s Central and Northern Campuses, enabling qualified nurses to develop management and educator capacity while continuing to work;throughput has however been low and slow. Since student support is posited as a vital ingredient of distance education success, this study sought to understand how students experienced the support services offered by the University of Namibia’s distance education unit – the Centre for External Studies. The study explored students’ experiences and perceptions of administrative, social and academic support services provided by the University. The research design was qualitative, and exploratory, using focus groups and interviews for data collection. The sample comprised of forty Bachelor of Nursing Science students enrolled on both campuses between 2005 –2011 as well as seven staff involved in student support services. Documents and interviews of envisioned support services from the Centre for External Studies served as the basis for the evaluation of services. Data was analysed using thematic content analysis. A comparison was made of the findings from the two campuses. The findings reflected positive experiences of support from family and lecturers as well as institutional offerings such as video conferences. There were, however, some institutional weaknesses in the programme delivery such as the late delivery of study materials which impacted on students’ submission of assignments, and weak communication systems which affected delivery of support workshops. The libraries on both campuses were not adequately resourced and prescribed books were not always available at the local bookshops. Lecturer presence was missed by many students who were not used to distance learning, although the intensity of this experience differed between the students on the different Campuses.Personal challenges were sometimes responsible for student discontinuation of the programme, and work-related challenges affected attendance of vacation schools. These problems were experienced more by the students on the Northern Campus.Out of this study, recommendations were made on how to improve support services for advanced nursing students studying at a distance at the University of Namibia. Ethical clearance for the study was obtained from both the University of Namibia and the University of the Western Cape.

Abstract:
In this thesis we investigate the use of pairwise testing for PLC embedded software. We compare these automatically generated tests with tests created manually by industrial engineers. The tests were evaluated in terms of fault detection, code coverage and cost. In addition, we compared pairwise testing with randomly generated tests of the same size as pairwise tests. In order to automatically create test suites for PLC software a previously created tool called Combinatorial Test Tool (CTT) was extended to support pairwise testing using the IPOG algorithm. Once test suites were created using CTT they were executed on real industrial programs. The fault detection was measured using mutation analysis. The results of this thesis showed that manual tests achieved better fault detection (8% better mutation score in average) than tests generated using pairwise testing. Even if pairwise testing performed worse in terms of fault detection than manual testing, it achieved better fault detection in average than random tests of the same size. In addition, manual tests achieved in average 97.29% code coverage compared to 93.95% for pairwise testing, and 84.79% for random testing. By looking closely on all tests, manual testing performed equally good as pairwise in terms of achieved code coverage. Finally, the number of tests for manual testing was lower (12.98 tests in average) compared to pairwise and random testing (21.20 test in average). Interestingly enough, for the majority of the programs pairwise testing resulted in fewer tests than manual testing.

Abstract:
A car body part is assembled by different metal parts. These metal parts are always unique. The deviation affects the assembled component. When a body component has been assembled random samples are measured to validate that the deviation of the assembled component is within a certain tolerance level. If the component is outside the tolerance level an adjustment has to be done.   How to make an adjustment is knowledge based on experience. This kind of knowledge is named tacit knowledge and is difficult to be transferred or documented. A Case Based Reasoning system solves a target issue with a similar previous solution, similar to humans tacit knowledge. This system will, once it has enough knowledge, give an engineer a suggestion of how to adjust.   This thesis report describes the process to create a Case Based Reasoning system for Volvo Cars Body Components (VCBC) located in Olofström, Sweden. This thesis work is a part of an ongoing research project about how to make the body components production more effective in the future, a collaboration between Mälardalens University and VCBC. The main requirement of the thesis work was to develop a system that can be used to validate the research project.   A system was developed and installed, designed to operate on different production lines. The system consists of a website as a GUI and a Microsoft SQL Server for storing data. The main requirement is achieved.   Keywords: case based reasoning, production line, measurement data, adjustment data, database design, software engineering, Matlab deployment, .NET

Abstract:
This dissertation seeks to determine the differences between veteran and non-veteran students' mental effort and task difficulty within undergraduate online courses in Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) programs at three public Texas universities. The BAAS program is geared toward non-traditional students, which includes veterans. The courses are delivered in flexible formats, including online courses, face-to-face courses, and blended courses, which use a combination of online and face-to-face courses. After reviewing literature and utilizing both the cognitive theory of multimedia learning and the cognitive learning theory, a survey was conducted using undergraduate students enrolled in BAAS programs at three public Texas universities. The data was analyzed by conducting a factorial ANOVA and Pearson correlation to determine if there was a difference between veterans and non-veteran students' mental effort and task difficulty within online courses within the BAAS programs. The results indicated that that all three hypotheses failed to reject the null hypotheses that: (1) there is no difference in mental effort of students who had military service, versus those who did not have military service, (2) there is no difference in mental effort of students who had military service, versus those who did not have military service, and (3) there is no difference in the correlation between successful completion of distance learning courses of students who had military services versus those who did not have military service.

Abstract:
AbstractFemTech.dk is situated in the Department of Computer Science at University of Copenhagen Denmark and has been an ongoing inquiry into the specific circumstances within computer science that produce gender imbalance and includes activities dedicated to making a change through design interventions. FemTech.dk was created in 2016 to engage with research within gender and diversity and to explore the role of gender equity as part of digital technology design and development. FemTech.dk considers how and why computer science as a field and profession in Denmark has such a distinct unbalanced gender representation in the twenty-first century. The focus was initially on the student base of the bachelor’s program in computer science, which from the 1980s until 2016 was remarkably smaller than for other science programs at the University of Copenhagen. In terms of numbers, only 15 women students entered the bachelor’s degree program in 2012 and 2013, and only 12 women students entered the program in 2014. In each of these 3 years, more than 160 students entered the program in total. Reviewing the 15-year period 2000–2014, the share of women students in the program was 7–9%, the lowest percentage of women in a study program across all of the University of Copenhagen. To compare, in 2016 the share of women students in the Math program was 30%, and in Physics was 25%.

Abstract:
This paper presents our template-based approach in building a web-based system titled "Dynamic curriculum Organisation by Innovation through Technology (DoIT)". We have considered the meta-environment of any course development process and found that we can produce two kinds of knowledge assets from this environment. A delivery (asset) environment forms the basis of our traditional course delivery mechanisms. An in-forming (asset) environment can be created to engage the students to learn what they have learnt from the delivery environment. Normally, curriculum developers and curriculum implementers (lecturers and TAs) are involved mainly with only one aspect of this asset: the delivery environment. Our Bachelor of Software Engineering students also learn about what they have learnt in their undergraduate degree course by engaging with the in-forming environment of DoIT. We present a meta-environment for creating knowledge assets and show how our DoIT system fits within this educational knowledge framework.

Abstract:
Nanotechnology is science at the molecular level. Like biotechnology and information technology, it has tremendous potential to greatly change the world in which we live. Nanosystems engineering can be considered the branch of engineering that deals with materials and devices smaller than 100 nanometers (1 nanometer is a billionth of a meter), especially with the manipulation of individual molecules. Student interest and industry growth in this field highlight the need for a baccalaureate program in this area. The College of Engineering and Science at Louisiana Tech University has developed a new undergraduate degree in nanosystems engineering. The main objectives of this program are (a) to train undergraduate students in experimental, theoretical, and computational aspects of engineering and science as applied to the development and use of nanotechnology; and (b) renovate and revitalize traditional engineering curricula such as mechanical engineering or materials science/ engineering through new nanosystems courses and instructional modules. We describe a new undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nanosystems Engineering curriculum which has a strong interdisciplinary emphasis. The Nanosystems Engineering Program draws on the strengths of all the basic sciences (chemistry, physics, and biology) and existing integrated engineering and science programs within the college at the freshman and sophomore levels. Graduates with a nanosystems engineering degree will have many opportunities at the boundaries of traditional engineering due to the cross-disciplinary nature of their degree. We expect many of the graduates of this program may choose to pursue research-based careers by moving on to graduate study or working at government laboratories and/or research centers. Graduates who wish to work in a commercial environment will find ever expanding opportunities in the many new nanotechnology companies that are emerging.

Abstract:
A cross sectional descriptive study was carried out to determine the level of stress and its associated factors among Allied Health Science undergraduates in University of Sri Jayewardenepura. A convenient sample of 150 Allied Health Science undergraduates who follow Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc.N), Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) and Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (B.Sc. MLS) degree programmes were selected as the study sample. A self-administered questionnaire with both open ended and closeended questions was used as the research tool. The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) developed by Cohen et al. (1994) was used to evaluate students’ perceived level of stress(PLS) during the last month. Irrespective of the year of study, B.Sc. Nursing undergraduates have scored higher level of perceived level of stress which is statistically significant in a chi-square test when comparing with B. Pharm and B.Sc. MLS undergraduates. Perceived level of stress had no significant association with sociodemographic factors including sex. Increased academic work load and financial difficulties were the prioritized factors associated with stress. The lack of personal freedom, conflicts with colleagues, unsupportive staff at the clinical placement and lack of support services were also reported as the other factors associated with the level of perceived stress among undergraduates. Keywords: Perceived Stress; Allied health Undergraduates; Associated factors

Abstract:
Sustainability Sciences need communication to communicate knowledge effectively and to engage audiences toward sustainable development. Therefore, the present study examines to what extent media and communication aspects are integrated into sustainability science's curricula of higher education institutions in Europe. For this purpose, a total of n=1117 bachelor and master's degree programs and their related curricula/program specifications from 31 European countries were analyzed by means of content analysis. Results show that the level of curricular integration of media and communication aspects in the field of sustainability science is not (yet) far advanced (18%). This leaves room for a reflection on the perceived (ir-)relevance of communication as a crucial discipline and competence in the sustainability science area, as well as on the social and educational responsibility of higher education institutions.

Nehring, Natalia, and Simon Dacey. Formative vs Summative Quizzes as Regular Feedback on Moodle in Computer Science Courses: Which do Students Prefer? Unitec ePress, November 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.34074/ocds.090.

Full text
Abstract:
Deferred feedback on summative assessments can demotivate students and affect their overall learning performance, and it can change their study routines. The aim of this study is to compare and analyse students’ perceptions about summative and formative regular feedback: whether they are better motivated by being given marks, or by regular feedback without any marks. All participants were students from a Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) degree at a New Zealand tertiary institute. Three courses were selected across three different levels of the BCS, and the sample group included 272 students from five different semesters. Summative (with marks) and formative (with feedback only) weekly quizzes were introduced in 2017, with the aim of providing early, regular feedback to students. Participants in the study were divided into two groups: students who were doing formative, and those who were doing summative quizzes. In each group, the majority of students indicated that they were happy and positive about getting regular feedback in the form of quizzes, and they appreciated the quiz questions and time spent as a way to adjust and enhance their learning. There was no real difference in students’ subjective evaluations and individual perceptions between those who had summative and those who had formative quizzes. The existence of quizzes, and the results, were important for students as weekly feedback and it didn’t matter whether marks were attached to these weekly feedback activities or not. More studies are needed to determine what type of questions could better influence students’ learning outcomes.

Abstract:
This research brief uses nationally representative data from the 2012/17 Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study (BPS:12/17) to examine post-college transitions of US undergraduates into the skilled technical workforce (STW), defined here as workers in a collection of occupations that require significant levels of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) knowledge but not necessarily a bachelor’s degree for entry. Thus far, empirical research on the STW has been limited by a dearth of data; however, based on newly available data from BPS:12/17, the findings in this report indicate that STW employment provides workers with above-median salaries, more equitable wages, a variety of benefits, and clear career paths. STW jobs attract diverse populations, especially those from underrepresented groups (e.g., Hispanics, individuals from low-income backgrounds, and those whose parents do not have college education). US community colleges and sub-baccalaureate programs play a large role in developing the STW.

Full text
Abstract:
This exploratory study set out to evaluate how well a particular course in automotive engineering is set up to enable students to develop skills necessary to enter the workplace. The research set out to identify trends in student expectations and in the needs of employers at a time when this field of work is characterised by disruptive technological developments such as computerisation and automation. The intended outcome of the research is that the findings will assist the critical thinking of course designers as they reflect on modifications that might be necessary for Unitec Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) graduate attributes to fully meet future workplace demands. It is also an aim that this exploratory evaluation of a small cohort of students can, despite its limitations, identify trends for future pedagogical research in the ITP (Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics) sector. Although not a full course evaluation, this study invited feedback from students and recent graduates in relevant employment regarding the alignment of the Unitec Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) course design with their perceptions of skills necessary in the workplace. Another intention was to highlight any misalignments between the realities of the automotive engineering sector and student expectations of the course: To what degree are work capability expectations in agreement between the student stakeholders and the institution? Are the course goals realistic and in line with actual industry needs? How is the definition of work readiness changing? The paper also samples current speculative thinking about skills that are becoming progressively more important in the workplace, namely the so-called ‘soft skills’ in communication, problem solving, management and collaboration, and in dialogic and creative attributes relevant to increasingly automated and globalised workplaces.

Abstract:
During this teaching cruise, bachelor students of the Institute of Marine Ecosystem and Fishery Science (IMF) were supposed to get the opportunity to learn about the most commonly used scientific methods, gears and working procedures on board of a research vessel for fisheries science as well as biological oceanography. In order to achieve a great number of students participating a teaching cruise, this one has been split in half. Thus a change of 7 students has been realizable in Rønne, on the Danish island Bornholm. The scientific objective of the cruise was the investigation of distribution patterns of certain spawning fish species, such as cod, whiting, sprat, plaice, flounder and dab in the Kiel, Arkona and with special focus within the Bornholm Basin. In addition to fisheries, a comprehensive grid of plankton net stations was sampled in order to gain insights into the spatial distribution of fish eggs, planktivorous prey (larval to adult life stages) cod larvae and plankton distribution (most important for sprat) within the Bornholm Basin. Of special interest were picoplankton communities´ short term responses (on board) to temperature along the respective gradient in the Baltic Sea with an additional sampling scheme to later isolate Ostreococcus sp. and its associated viruses for future laboratory studies at the Institute for Marine Ecosystem and Fishery Science.
