Abstract:
The aim of this project was to develop and improve Intuitive Aerial AB airborne camera rig system, the biggest focus area in this project has been on the upper part of the UAV camera rig system, whether proofing and make it more portable during transports is the main goal, I am using industrial design methodology to do this.Intuitive Aerial AB is developing a new model of their airborne camera rig system to the NAB show (National Association of Broadcasts) in April 6-11 2013 in Las Vegas USA. The airborne Camera rig is an UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) that targets the professional film and photography industry.Idea generation, sketching, prototype, brainstorming, user research, market analysis, CAD modeling and rendering are some of the industrial design methods used in this project. This project has had a tight time schedule to be ready for the NAB Show. This means that development and production has been hands on.The result presented in this report is a new design of the Intuitive Aerial airborne camera rig system. That is produced to the NAB show in Las Vegas. After the NAB Show in Las Vegas a concept study of the camera rig system has been made. And is visualised as sketches and 3D model renderings.

Abstract:
China's BOT program is important because China suffers a dearth of infrastructure particularly in the areas of water and waste water treatment, roads and airports, which pure government funding will not be able to meet in the medium to long term. Thus, if China is to continue to develop, and its people to prosper, it must adopt a successful model for attracting private and, in particular, foreign private capital. China's experimental BOT program is an attempt to do just that.

Abstract:
This analysis was aimed to determine the current status of river Gomti along the Lucknow stretch. Physico-chemical characteristics, level of organic matter, various heavy metals and sewage pollution and their variation has been studied from upstream to downstream of Lucknow. Gaughat is upstream region and Pipraghat is downstream of Lucknow. Analysis has been done from upstream to downstream regions of the river. Water samples are subjected to analysis like BOD and DO. Study concluded that large number of drains are responsible for pollution in river Gomti that enter directly into the river carrying untreated industrial and domestic waste. Some other causes are like removal of solid wastes at pumping stations is still manual, sometimes pumping station does not work , so the sewage waste is by passed directly to the river Gomti or when most of the branch and trunk sewers do not function properly. Study indicates that the water quality has been deteriorated from Gaughat to Pipraghat due to discharge of untreated waste water from about 26 major drains in its entire course. Water of the river Gomti at upstream of Lucknow i.e.Gaughat showed minimum BOD and maximum dissolved oxygen. But due to the presence of 26 drains dissolved oxygen level decreases along its stretch and showed minimum DO at Pipraghat.

This study is to discuss what kind of risk the B.O.T.(Build- Operate-Transfer) investor in Taiwan face by using two questi- onnaire with seven construction factories. First questionnaire is to discuss what kind of main risks exist and their source in Taiwan when invest in B.O.T. projects, and how to use the methods of risk treatment. Second questionnaire is to discuss the priority of the main risks using Analytic Hierarchy Proc- ess (A.H.P.). The purpose of study has two perspective : one is to provide B.O.T. investor with the note of risk management , the other is to privide government with the reference of how to establish related law of B.O.T. model and manage local inv- estment. The conclusions of this study are presented as follows : 1. Suggestion for government a.The process''''s delay of land levied, lack and change of related law of B.O.T. model, and heavy and complicated of government''''s administration are the most important risks investor think highly of. Government should improve these content. b.Government and investor can create the phase of win-win. Government should help investor exclude the interference of non-economic factor. 2. Suggestion for investor a.The methods of investing in B.O.T. project should be con- sidered its nature, e.g. the phase of technology, sum of money, time of recovery, related experience, and different level. b.Investor can learn more related methods of B.O.T. risk treatment from foreign firms, e.g.be cooperated with for- eign firms and financial institution who had participated in B.O.T.projects.

This research studies diverse aspects of BOT case studies in the lights of market, build, law, finance, and management in the hope of constructing the mechanism of implementation to serve as the base for enterprises to shape project management of public construction under BOT terms. BOT is a new option provided with private energy resources for the government to solve the problem of tight monetary and inefficiency. To make BOT workable, the ground for development should be based on a new light of the diverse changes of the whole social and environmental mechanism in addition to examining the enforcement and implementation of current laws and regulations. One aspect of processing public construction under BOT terms essentially involves the “infrastructure” or “massive exploitation”, namely “granted”, which is under the evaluation of administrations. This is so-called “granted incentive”. Another incentive is “land incentive”, with plenty of land in use under the construction (the traffic in particular). There is no denying that private enterprises have the access to collecting capital and purchasing the land through free market mechanism; however, in Taiwan, lands are valuable and insufficient. Some landlords are not willing to sell their lands or they tend to raise the price up. In this case, the prerequisite of construction lies in that the government should address authenticity to summon private land or offer public land, titled as the “land incentive”. In general, a greater amount of investment capital is needed under BOTterms. Prior to the operation of the construction, the granted enterprises own limited credit due to the uncertainty of operational conditions and the insufficient market-value of constructive building. On the condition, it is difficult to be issued handsome bank loan without the guarantee of the government grantee community, and even the grantee community has to allocate significant budget resources to assure such financial aid.To process the construction under BOT terms usually meet such problems as changing the title of land, , and the environmental evaluation, assessment, and laws, which work in accordance with the revision of laws, individual examination of various committees, or the change of conditions under administrational judgment Construction under BOT terms cannot succeed without the direct aid of the government. Accordingly, the importance of the administrational assistance cannot be overemphasized. The “administrational incentive” accounts for the importance of administrational assistance in making BOT successful.

The Build-Operate-Transfer(BOT) model has been introduced to Taiwan during the middle of '90 and becomes a popular system for the government administrations for financial savings and efficiency of operation promoting. More than half of announced BOT projects were leisure-industry related, and there are few researches discussing the financial analysis for the BOT projects in leisure industry. This research aimed the engineering economics calculations, including Net Present Value Method (NPV), Internal Rate of Return Method (IRR), Payback Period Method (PBB), Sensitivity Analysis, to find out the sensitive factors of financial analysis of BOT projects for restaurants, hotels, sightseeing and recreational places, theme park and shopping malls. Some important financial parameters were given by assumptions and the phase of the cash flow included the initial investment phase, the construction phase, and the operation phase. A risk analysis software, @RISK 4.5, was applied for the calculation. Risk models with probability distribution, such as normal distribution, were attached to the parameters with uncertainties. This research finally concluded with several findings, including the most sensitive factors of financial analysis in leisure industry and the vibrating window of financial indices when controlling a sensitive factors.

In recent years, liberalization and privatization have become the worldwild standard of the current years. There were a lot of large transport construction programs to adopt the B.O.T. model in our country at present, such as the Taiwan High Speed Rail program, the Kaohsiung MRT and so on. The B.O.T. project of the Containers Terminal of Taipei Port is the only one example about port B.O.T. in Taiwan. The content of a plan project for port B.O.T. has lots of things and we should consider all of these, like the engineering, law, finance, etc. There are many consultants add to the process of evaluation. There are not only the force majeure, building completion risk but also operation risk, land to obtain risk etc. Therefore, establishing the reasonable risk carrier plays a important role in the port B.O.T. project between organization (port authorities) and B.O.T. franchisee. This research through expert’s questionnaires to understand the probability of each risk occurrence, the influence degree after the risk happened and the suggestion of sharing proportion between the organization with B.O.T. franchisee. Thus, we can establishing the reasonable risk in the port B.O.T. project as follows. 1.In judging and deciding stage, organization should define to bid standard, review standard and timing programming. In order to set up a equity, candor and public investment environment and standard. The B.O.T. franchisee should consider the ability himself, the time to decision to take a port or not. 2.In making agreement stage, organization should make sure about the negotiate timing and the applicable of contract items. The B.O.T. franchisee has duty to show the viewpoint clearly. 3.In building construction stage, The B.O.T. franchisee should make a perfect risk finance planning before beginning to construct. In order to avoid the destituttion of fund. Organization should finish what he promise in the right time to help the B.O.T. franchisee building smoothly. 4.In operating stage, the B.O.T. franchisee beginning to operate and earning income. However, it is the main mission, maintenance of operation quality and the growth of income, in this stage. Organization should give advisable assistance. 5.In ownership transfer stage, organization and the B.O.T. franchisee should deal with the equipment discarding and making sure of property price together. And undertake the risk of ownership removal together. Organization and the B.O.T. franchisee could have good partner’s relation by establishing the reasonable risk sharing system and getting the double win.

ABSTRACT At present, there is not any calculable basis and patterns of compensative figures on operating stage of Municipal Solid Waste Incineration (MSWI) in Taiwan. Look by the point of environmental claim, the compensation of Municipal Solid Waste Incineration (MSWI) are conceived as indemnify. The multitude make nothing of the source, the amount, the allowance, and the exploitation of compensation. The multitude are also unhappy to make use of compensation on an evening party or a junket. The multitude believe that the compensation should be use on what helpful to them, such as the betterment of environment, infrastructure, etc. At the primary stage, the application of compensation would be used to establish public facility. A few years latter, the application of compensation would be used on social security by degrees. This research use Chunan Municipal Solid Waste Incineration (MSWI) to investigate the circumstances of the promotional budget on neighbor facility and compensation on building stage and operating stage. We want to know what the multitude understand and want to use of compensation. We hope to provide the conclusion to compensative factory and directorial office for following consultation. We expect the exploitation of compensation would be used outward, reasonably, and appropriately. Finally, establishments and multitude would create a win-win situation

After years of continuous development, Vietnam is now facing the congestion of traffic and the inefficiency of the transportation system that exert a great pressure on the economic development. The government is planning a Vietnam High Speed Rail (VHSR) project to connect its long-shape country from Hanoi to Hochiminh city. The Nha Trang – Ho Chi Minh City route is the individual southern part of the VHSR project. The government is now facing the difficulty of getting enough money to finance for this project. Public objection to the future financial burden is also an obstacle that could make the project unfeasible. The BOT approach is emerging as a very powerful project-financing scheme in the world today. By reviewing vital conditions that the Vietnamese government and the private sector have had for the BOT application, this study presents the feasibility of BOT application to the VHSR project: the Nhatrang to Hochiminh city route. Finally, based on the performance of the BOT projects in Vietnam, experiences of the Taiwan High-speed Rail project and BOT experiences in the world, the study also suggests recommendations to improve efficiency of BOT application in this project.

In recent years, private investment in public construction and the introduction of corporate philosophy to improve public service quality have become an international trend. In order to alleviate the financial burden of the government, public construction investment has been expanded to boost the economy. The Executive Yuan has also listed private participation in public construction as an important policy direction. As many countries highly value the “non-smokestack “tourism industry” and “technology industry” in the 21st century, our government has also actively endeavored to link “tourism” and various industries. On the other hand, the “Action plan for top-notch pilot tourism program” launched by the Ministry of Tourism Bureau, Republic of China (Taiwan) under the international tourism policy also promotes domestic travel, leading to local economic development. This study used Kenting Hotel for Teachers and Public Workers as an example. From the perspective of private investment agencies and through the BOT model, the relevant risk factors were analyzed. Additionally, the financial model was used to predict the costs for constructing Kenting Hotel for Teachers and Public Workers in Pintung and multi-purpose facilities BOT case, as well as the return of capital investment, establish the feasibility of hotel industry’s overall financial feasibility assessment using the BOT model. The assessment results are expected to bring substantial benefits to private investment agencies in their future investment projects. Keywords: BOT, Financial models, Hotel

Since 1988, Taiwan Aboriginal organizations have been actively raised movements to fight for aboriginal rights. Meanwhile, Aboriginal peoples were empowered by experience exchange with international Indigenous peoples. The movement of “return our land” which contained the concept of traditional land rights and natural rights raised the position of aboriginal issues to Nation-to-Nation (Indigenous peoples to Taiwan government). This was the key that not only raises Taiwan aboriginal awareness, also enhances a far-reaching impact of the follow-up of the Aboriginal movement. During 2005 to 2008, COU people, one of the Taiwan indigenous people who have been inhabited in Ali Mountain area, organized a great deal protest actions against the Ali. Mountain B.O.T.. (Ali. Mountain Forest Railway Development Projects). This research collects information of the Ali. Mountain B.O.T. and reconstructs the elements of the COU people opposing the BOT development projects. It also tries to analyze and discuss this event from the viewpoint of a central and local government and stakeholders of the movement. In this study, I attempt to explore the appropriate factor for the main concern, and provide the example to other non-government organizations for their future movements.

Abstract Currently, the demand for parking space in Taiwan area is extremely out of balance, and the government can only construct a very limited number of human and financial resources. As a result, the employment using B.O.T. model to encourage civilian construction of parking lots has already become one of the policies to be pushed by the government in the coming future. With regard to the discord as whichever bidding systems either domestically or overseas should be chosen to establish the optimal screening syste of B.O.T. model to apply to public off-street parking lots. It has now become the most urgent issue as how the government can award the construction contracts to the optimal chartered company. In view of it, this paper will employ the four decision making factors found in the screening system of B.O.T. model for public Off-street parking lot as its major domain of study. At the beginning, the problem is analyzed of its characteristics, then a multi-objective decision making model will make use of expert judgment to integrate opinions from diverse hierarchies and backgrounds in the first stage; in the second stage, a multi-criteria decision making model will be exploited and this paper has also combined AHP and TOPSIS to conduct the analysis. Afterwards, Taipei City will be taken as illustration for model resolution, and this paper has invited experts and officials from the department of road administration, the administration of Taipei City as well as scholars to from the nine-member group decision making for joint evaluation. In terms of the candidate system, Since B.O.T. model only begins to burgeon in Taiwan, this paper has, as well, programmed those points as how the candidate system can be formulated for the authorities concerned to facilitate their model application or the optimal screening system for evaluating similar construction work. The results of the optimal system being evaluated will be found in two stage; in the first stage, it will be the examination of bidding documents and the qualification check of bidders, only the qualified will be admitted to the second stage; in the second stage, a comprehensive evaluation using weighted score is being utilized to rank the bidders, and the optimal investor from the bidders will be ranked with comprehensive evaluation.Based on the above- mantioned analysis, this paper has thus reached and put forth important conclusions as references for future studies.

In recent years, weekend recreation has become an important trend in urban life. More People are willing to spend more time and more money on their leisure activities. With the growing needs of leisure environments, Kaohsiung City Government has started to establish several significant public recreation construction plans in Kaohsiung city. However, the huge amount of investment on public construction has become a major financial concern. By means of BOT, the city government has determined to encourage the private investors to participate in these public recreation projects. As a method of attracting private investors’ attentions to involve in public projects, Kaohsiung City Government has adopted a new model - BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer), which has been operated in developed countries to enhance the qualities in public constructions. This study takes the feasibility of Kaohsiung Healthy Culture Park as an example; it enables the private investors to know the cost of healthy recreation constructions in the park and the predictable cost and benefits in the future. By using the sensitive financial analysis method and making a rational estimative plan, this study gives the private enterprises an affective measurement of making public investments in recommended proposals and investment estimates.

The meaning of B.O.T system (Build-Operate-Transfer) is that the private sector sign contract with the government ,and prepare enough capital to build the public facilities ,after finish the engineering ,the private sector can operate the public facilities for a given time ,and then transfer the operate right to the government after time is up .Because the B.O.T system use the goodness of private sector to push the city construction ,and it also can abate the financial bear of the government ,so using the B.O.T system to push the public facilities has became the national trend. The B.O.T system which emphasis the public-private partnership is a new urban development system , and it is also a new attempt to the traditional government .The government decide the public facilities’s location or route by considering the difficult degree of land acquire or the service range of the public facilities before ,and the goal of the government is going after the maximize public benefit .But since the B.O.T system was invented ,the traditional notion of the government has changed ,the government must concern about the balance of public benefit and private benefit to plan the public facilities project .and at the same time , the urban development aspect is also changed . In the B.O.T project of low self-liquidating ratio public facilities ,the public facilities can’t make equitable rate of return ,so the government have to give some premium measure to raise the rate of return of the project .And in all premium measure ,the concession of develop other land resources and operate subsidiary business is most popular .Although this concession can raise the rate of return of B.O.T project ,but in some B.O.T cases ,it also impacts our living environment ,and Taipei Dome project is one of those cases .The subsidiary business which was planned to raise the rate of return of Taipei Dome project will make the traffic condition of the neighborhood areas getting worse . So I collect the foreign dome and B.O.T cases ,and interview with authorities and scholars to protocol the guidelines of the location and concession measure of the Taipei Dome .At last ,I got those conclusion: (1)The location guidelines of Taipei Dome: 1.Taipei Dome must avoid to locate at the areas of traffic jam 2. The rapid transportation system must pass by the location of Taipei Dome. 3. The location of Taipei Dome must have the potency which can develop to a large urban entertainment center with neighborhood. 4. The location of Taipei Dome can’t have the limit of flying height. 5. The area which Taipei Dome located must large over ten hectare. (2)The concession measure of Taipei Dome: The Taipei Dome B.O.T project can permit the private sector developing the land resources and operate subsidiary business ,and the use event was closed the location of Taipei Dome: 1.When Taipei Dome located at downtown :the base which Taipei Dome located can set the national hotel and install the repast 、 drink industry ,but it also should avoid setting large shopping center and abate the floor areas of the theater、department store and retail industry. 2.When Taipei Dome located at suburb the base which Taipei Dome located can set the national hotel and shopping center (if the traffic condition is allowed).

Abstract:
A Research project submitted to the Faculty of Science, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of MSc. 10 May 2017
This study seeks to investigate how the B.Ed Physical Science laboratory work program prepares student teachers to handle laboratory work in schools during teaching experience. Experimentation is what separates the scientific disciplines from other disciplines in the school curriculum, yet research has shown that in many schools teachers are not carrying out laboratory work (Wilkinson & Ward, 1997). The few practical’s that are carried out are demonstrations that are targeted at meeting the basic science curriculum requirements. While some researchers (Dillon, 2008; Langley, 2014; Toplis, 2011; Wilkinson & Ward, 1997) have argued that teachers in schools have little time and resources available for meaningful laboratory work, due to unwieldy and rigid curriculum, other researchers (Hodson, 2007; Staer et al., 1995; Abd-El-Khalick & Lederman, 2000) point out that the problem could equally be that the teachers lack the practical skills themselves, to carry out laboratory practical work, let alone, training their students to do the same. This study, will therefore investigate how well B. Ed 4th year Physical Sciences students have been prepared to run practical’s as pedagogical tools for motivation, modeling scientific practice, teaching about the nature of science and acquiring manipulative skills necessary for the handling and usage of scientific equipment

The project operations, finance, risk perception and risk management of domestic B.O.T. development is still in the initial stage. In view of the following traits of developing a public construction: huge expenditure, long recovering period and difficulty in controlling the planning, building and operation risk. This study consolidate the questionnaire design of Delphi & A.H.P. method. In this study, I call on different people in official, industry, academic and bank to explore their risk perception to Kaohsiung MRT B.O.T. project. As a result, 20 copies of Delphi questionnaire summarize 14 risk factors, including the cooperation of government 96 copies of effective questionnaire of analysis on the weight in risk perception are worrying about the「risk of Self-Liquidating off debts」,「long recovering period」,「the degree of government’s cooperation」, etc. The entire 18 hypotheses don’t achieve the apparent level in statistic. I hope this study will be beneficial to build a structure in building the risk management on B.O.T. project and to be pragmatic.

The public infrastructure plays basic kinetic energy to accelerate economic development, and improve national standard of living in the nation. It is also an important key to attract domestic and international enterprises to process the investment; moreover, it promotes the nation’s international competition ability. In recent years, Taiwan government intends to solve insufficient budget of public infrastructure; therefore, the authority promulgated the "Promotion of Private Participation in Infrastructure Projects", it has become a trend that the construction of public facilities by the introduction of private capital investment, and improve the quality of public services through the business strategy. In the beginning to present, There were series large transport construction programs through B.O.T.(Build–Operate–Transfer)model in the nation, such as the Taiwan High Speed Rail program, the Kaohsiung MRT(Mass Rapid Transit), the ETC(Electronic Toll Collection) and so on. However, there is only one B.O.T. project in the public infrastructure in Taipei port in this nation. The contents of port B.O.T. project incur various issues and problems. It is an important study to consider all of issues in term of engineering, law, finance, etc. These issues not only the force majeure, building completion, operation risk but also “Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)”etc should be into research consideration. This study attempts to examine following issues: Firstly, to practice of corporate social responsibilities in port B.O.T. cases. Secondly, and yields of private interest while participating in economic activities. Thirdly, how to trade off Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) between the maximization of profit and business strategies? Finally, it is an important topic for home and abroad enterprises into consideration. This research is a qualitative study undertaken by means of the reviewing of related documentations, inductive approach, and comparative approach so as to understand authority promotes investment and operation by private participation at port B.O.T. in Taiwan. Eventually, this study proposes the private enterprise pursues corporate social responsibility in port B.O.T. under public interests. The research reveals that private enterprises have adopted a different strategy approach taking into account the social corporate responsibility for participating in the investment project of the public infrastructure, port B.O.T, because of their respective positions on how to gain benefit. This study concludes three results: Firstly, mutual cooperation can be encouraged on the basis of fairness and justice between both sides. Secondly, the government should be also responsible for providing support, supervising the project, and helping reduce risks. Finally, private enterprises dedicated to promoting social corporate responsibility can aid in promoting the construction of public infrastructure with its appropriate management strategies for increasing earnings. As a result, public interests will eventually result from their active participation, cooperation will facilitate positive outcomes implementation with government looking forward to the win-win achievement.

Abstract:
The rapid economic growth in many developing countries results in a high demand for infrastructure and governments find that they are unable to fund the vital infrastructure or to maintain the existing ones (Gupta and Sravat, 1998). To remedy this they are increasingly opting for an alternative source of funding through the large international companies which have considerable credit standing for concession contracts such as Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) since those companies have a much larger capacity to fund the large scale projects than the recipient country. The objective of this research project is to provide a brief review of the South African experience with the utilisation of the BOT approach for infrastructure developments, examining the risks and the measures used to mitigate them. This is so as to draw lessons for policy makers on how to improve the use of this strategic instrument for infrastructure provision. The emphasis will be on overall risks associated with the scheme as well as the mitigating factors in light of the current social, political and economic context of the country and the region. Data was collected using the Delphi survey method and the study targeted individuals who were knowledgeable and experienced with the issues under investigation and from different sectors involved with execution of BOT infrastructure development projects in South Africa. These included contractors, lenders, operators as well as some from the host government. The questionnaire was designed to identify the perceptions of the individuals regarding risk management in BOT projects as well as identify significant risk associated with the scheme. The 10 most critical risks were ranked based on the ratings of the respondents in the final phase of the Delphi survey. The risk that was rated the most critical turned out to be ‘Political instability in the host country’. This is defined as the danger of political or financial instability in the host country caused by events such as insurrections, strikes, creeping expropriation and outright nationalization.

Abstract Recently, our Government tries to promote the public facilities development, and had passed many relative laws for the private participation in the public facilities development. But, it was not quite successful during this period. Because the laws are so straight and the profit provide to the private investors were so low, that they can''t accepted and there haven''t any attraction to them. So, the Government tries to use the B.O.T. project to promote the private participation in the public facilities development. By making the law clearly and declared the relationship between the Government and the private investors both their legal rights and their duties, provide more benefits such as financial loans and decrease the tax rates. This thesis tries to use one kind of local public facility-emporium, as the case study, to find out whether it''s work or not by using the B.O.T. project. This thesis is divided into three parts; firstly, research the urban development and the changes of the people''s consuming habit. Secondly, research the B.O.T. method and finally case study of the Tainan Sei-Mun Emporium Redevelopment Scheme. So the contents of this thesis are chapter one and chapter two is declared the aims of this thesis, and study relative thesis. Chapter three is to research the B.O.T. project, such as the characteristic, the factors of the risks and its relative criterions. Chapter four is to research the multi-purposed used of public facilities, especially for the Emporium use. From the evolution of the emporium and the results of it''s development. Chapter five is the case study of Tainan Sei-Mun Emporium Redevelopment Scheme. Chapter six the conclusion and suggestions. Concluded the above research results, there are some conclusions mentioned below: 1:It is difficult to get the private land by paying the landowner money for their lost, we should get the land by invite them to participate the investment, and share the profit making from the development. 2.The most important characteristic of B.O.T. method is quite easy to promote in different kinds of projects, just making an agreement that was agreed by both sides; the Government and the private investors. According to those conclusions mentioned above, we have some suggestions includes: to establish the concepts of laws for all the peoples, the Government should be fare to all of the private investors and provide a good investment environment for them.
