Abstract:
We successfully obtained Ni–B and Ni–B–Ce coatings with and without sonication on low-carbon steel (Q235) through electroless plating with the deposition time of 60[Formula: see text]min. The surface morphology and elemental composition of the coatings were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP). The 11[Formula: see text][Formula: see text]m thick sonicated Ni–B–Ce (Son-Ni–B–Ce) coating is uniform with the composition of Ni 87.1%, B 6.2% and Ce 6.6%. X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements implied a typical broaden peak around 44∘, considered as amorphous structure which was confirmed by selected area electron diffraction pattern (SAED). Atomic force microscopy (AFM) showed a typical circular pit of Ni–B–Ce coating and Son-Ni–B–Ce coating. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) revealed the chemical status of coating components. The mechanical and corrosion resistance properties were determined by Vickers hardness tester, potentiodynamic polarization (Tafel) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in 3.5[Formula: see text]wt. % NaCl solution. As a result, the Son-Ni–B–Ce coating revealed the optimum hardness (956[Formula: see text]HV), minimum roughness [Formula: see text] (92.38[Formula: see text]nm) and excellent corrosion resistance (3.65[Formula: see text][Formula: see text]Acm[Formula: see text] among all coatings.

Abstract:
The decomposition of the Nd-Ce-Fe-B phase to form CeFe2 has been usually believed to have an important positive effect on the magnetic properties of Nd-Ce-Fe-B permanent magnetic materials. In this work, a new decomposition process of the Nd-Ce-Fe-B phase on the formation of the CeFe2 phase was observed to play a negative role in its magnetic properties. It is demonstrated that the Nd-Ce-Fe-B phase decomposes into non-magnetic CeFe2, accompanied by the precipitation of Fe soft-phase. The kinks usually occurring in the demagnetization curves of Ce-rich Nd-Ce-Fe-B magnets have been determined to be related to the Fe soft-phase. Instead of using CeFe2 as a grain-boundary phase, another Ce-Cu boundary phase has been explored to efficiently improve the coercivity of Ce-rich Nd-Ce-Fe-B magnets, provided that the Ce-Cu boundary phase has an appropriate Ce to Cu ratio. The present results contribute to the mechanism comprehension and high-performance design of Nd-Ce-Fe-B permanent magnetic materials.

Chlorin e6 ( Ce 6) was conjugated with anti-tumor monoclonal antibody ( IgG 2 b ) to increase its binding affinity for tumors. The Ce 6 was activated by N -hydroxysuccinimide and directly conjugated with IgG 2 b ( IgG 2 b – Ce 6) via peptide bonds. An average of 11 Ce 6 molecules were coupled to each IgG2b molecule. IgG 2 b – Ce 6 showed high cellular uptake in tumor cells and high photocytotoxicity. These results indicate IgG 2 b – Ce 6 is a good photosensitizer with high binding affinity to tumor cells.

Abstract:
Ce-containing Layered Double Hydroxides (Ce-LDHs) were prepared by conventional and microwave-assisted crystallization method, which were denoted as Ce-LDHs-A and Ce-LDHs-B, respectively. The dispersibility of Ce-LDHs-B is much better than that of Ce-LDHs-A; the particles of Ce-LDHs-B with particle size ranging from 20 to 70 nm are smaller than that of Ce-LDHs-A with sizes around 50-300 nm. The effect of the cerium to aluminum molar ratios, microwave crystallization time and reaction temperature on the structure of Ce-LDHs was also investigated. The results show the excessive Ce into LDHs causes distortion of the samdwich, the damage of the LDHs structure becomes more and more serious with increasing the proportion of Ce/Al. The structure of Ce-LDHs becomes more and more perfect with the increasing of the microwave crystallization time and reaction temperature.

Abstract:
Aiming at refining the unideal microstructure and magnetic performance of sintered Ce–Fe–B magnets, La was introduced into the alloy. The role of La addition on the microstructure and magnetic properties revolution of Ce–Fe–B magnet was investigated in this study. The results suggested that La substitution could obstacle the phase structure deterioration during sintering process and maintained high 2:14:1 phase proportion. Meanwhile, uniform grain size and continuous RE-rich grain boundary phase appeared with La addition, which could be attributed to the segregation behaviors of La element and enhanced oxidation resistance with more 2:14:1 phase. The coercivity showed noteworthy increase from 2.93 kOe to 4.78 kOe under the synergetic effect of maintained 2:14:1 phase proportion, uniform RE2Fe[Formula: see text]B grain and even RE-rich phase distribution. This work indicated that La could act as a useful additive to obtain the cost-effective magnetic materials with moderate performance.

Abstract:
AbstractPoly(l-lactide)-b-polyethylene glycol-b-poly(l-lactide) (PLLA-PEG-PLLA) is found to be more flexible than PLLA due to the flexibility of PEG middle blocks. Melt flow and mechanical properties of PLLA-PEG-PLLA were improved through post melt blending with a chain extender (CE). In this work, in situ chain-extended PLLA-PEG-PLLAs were synthesized by ring-opening polymerization in the presence of Joncryl® CE. The influence of CE content (1.0, 2.0, and 4.0 phr) on the gel content, melt flow index (MFI), thermal properties, and mechanical properties of the obtained in situ chain-extended PLLA-PEG-PLLAs was investigated. The gel content of in situ chain-extended PLLA-PEG-PLLA increased while the MFI and degree of crystallinity significantly decreased with increasing CE content. The in situ chain-extended PLLA-PEG-PLLA with 1.0 phr CE showed the best tensile properties. The extensibility of in situ chain-extended PLLA-PEG-PLLA films decreased when the CE contents were higher than 1.0 phr. These in situ chain-extended PLLA-PEG-PLLA films can be used as highly flexible bioplastics.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to investigate the antifungal activity of a cyclic tetrapeptide from Bacillus velezensis CE 100 against anthracnose-causing fungal pathogen Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. Antifungal compound produced by B. velezensis CE 100 was isolated and purified from ethyl acetate extract of B. velezensis CE 100 culture broth using octadecylsilane column chromatography. The purified compound was identified as cyclo-(prolyl-valyl-alanyl-isoleucyl) based on mass spectrometer and nuclear magnetic resonance analyses. This is the first report of the isolation of a cyclic tetrapeptide from B. velezensis CE 100 culture filtrate. Cyclic tetrapeptide displayed strong antifungal activity at concentration of 1000 µg/mL against C. gloeosporioides mycelial growth and spore germination. Our results demonstrate that the antifungal cyclic tetrapeptide from B. velezensis CE 100 has potential in bioprotection against anthracnose disease of plants caused by C. gloeosporioides.

Abstract:
Leaf blight disease caused by Pestalotiopsismaculans lead to deleterious losses in the quality of forest container seedlings. The use of plant growth-promoting bacteria provides a promising strategy to simultaneously control diseases and enhance forest seedling production. This study investigated the biocontrol of leaf blight disease and growth promotion potential of Bacillus velezensis CE 100 in Quercus acutissima Carruth seedlings. B. velezensis CE 100 produced cell wall degrading enzymes, such as chitinase, β-l,3-glucanase, and protease, which caused cell wall lysis and hyphae deformation of P. maculans, leading to mycelial growth inhibition by 54.94%. Inoculation of B. velezensis CE 100 suppressed P. maculans infection and increased seedling survival rate by 1.6-fold and 1.3-fold compared to chemical fertilizer and control, respectively. In addition, B. velezensis CE 100 produced indole-3-acetic acid, which improved root development and nutrient uptake compared to chemical fertilizer and control. Especially, inoculation with B. velezensis CE 100 increased the total nitrogen content of Q. acutissima seedlings, improved the chlorophyll index in the leaves, and increased seedling biomass by 1.3-fold and 2.2-fold compared to chemical fertilizer and control, respectively. Thus, B. velezensis CE 100 could be applied in the eco-friendly production of high-quality forest seedlings.

Abstract:
Abstract The development of spintronic devices in the magnetic memories industry has attracted researchers over decades. Therefore, researchers are trying to obtain materials which compatible to improve device performance. These materials are made in the form of thin layer. Cerium-iron-boron (Ce-Fe-B) alloy is one of potential materials to be applied for magnetic devices. In this study, the nucleation changes in the Ce-Fe-B thin layer were analyzed using circular and rectangular shapes. This phenomenon was observed through micromagnetic simulations. The magnetic moment stability of Ce-Fe-B was analyzed based on the response of the magnetic moment towards the presence of an external magnetic field. The magnitude of applied external magnetic applied is 0.4 Tesla in x-axis direction. Changes in the arrangement of magnetic moments due to external magnetic fields produce magnetization and anisotropy energy value which describing the characteristics of the Ce-FeB thin layer. Magnetization value of Ce-Fe-B thin film in circular shape was greather than rectangular shape. These value was 0.98 for circular shape and 0.93 for rectangular shape. On the other hand, anisotropy energy value on magnetic external apllied 400 mT, circular shape anisotropy energy’s value of Ce-Fe-B was 4.85×10-18 J, and 6.71×10-18 J for rectangular shape.

Abstract Potassium bismuthate rods was synthesized in a form of elongated rods in non-aqueous methanol medium. The material morphology and structure were investigated using energy dispersive spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The effects of annealing temperature on the material morphology and structure were investigated. Sorption kinetic study and ionic selectivity was investigated using batch technique. The sorption of Ce3+ on potassium bismuthate was found to be Ce3+ cation’s ionic state selective process. Results showed that the chemical sorption of Ce3+ ionic state in KBiO3 follows the reduction of Bi5+ to Bi2− as a result of the formation of cerium bismuthide $({\rm{Ce}}_2^{3 + }{\rm{B}}{{\rm{i}}^{2 - }}{{\rm{O}}_2}).$ The suggested chemo-sorption mechanism includes equilibration parallel processes of the released K+ to form K2CeO2 and Bi2O3 that consumes the original material. The sorption kinetic has two different orders depending on contact time, isotherms fits adequately with Freundlich model and Dubinin-Radushkevich model. The material is considered a candidate for lanthanides radioactivity removal from aqueous media for radioactive waste disposal processes.

Abstract:
Plasma cells are often considered to be among important criteria in histological diagnosis of chronic endometritis (CE). Low plasma cell numbers in endometrial stroma, uneven distribution and similarity to the cells of cytogenic endometrial stroma represent difficulties with their identification by routine histological methods of study, and their absence prevents distinct diagnosis of CE. The paper presents data on comparative ROC-analysis of two immunohistochemical parameters of chronic endometritis: CD20+B lymphocytes and CD138+ plasma cells (PC). The study group included 937 women with CE, who were examined for infertility and failed IVF attempts. The control group consisted of 103 women without signs of CE who were studied for male infertility factor. The sensitivity of CD20+B cell assays for the diagnosis of CE was 98% (Se = 0.98), thus being 1.44 times higher compared to the sensitivity of CD138+PC, that was, respectively, 68% (Se = 0.68). The specificity of both indicators for the diagnosis of the absence of CE was high, i.e., 98% (Sp = 0.98), and 99% (Sp = 0.99), respectively. The threshold quantitative values for the two endometrial parameters (cutoff point) for the CE diagnosis were also determined when using CD138+PC-1 cell/5mm2 and CD20+B lymphocytes-5cell/5mm2. Analysis of linear regression showed a highly significant (p = 0.00053) relationship of CD138+ PC from CD20+B lymphocytes: With increased numbers of CD20+B lymphocytes, there is a trend for higher CD138+PC numbers which confirms their direct pathogenetic relationship. The topographic and quantitative features of CD20 B lymphocytes in the endometrium determined during immunohistochemical examination allow us to recommend this approach as a highly sensitive and significant early diagnostic indicator of chronic endometritis.

Abstract:
The Nb-Si system ultrahigh temperature alloys were prepared by vacuum non-consumable arc melting. The influence of micro-alloying elements of B and Ce on the hardness, room-temperature fracture toughness and compressive strength at 1250°C of the Nb-22Ti-3Si alloys was investigated and estimated systematically. The results showed that the hardness of the Nb-22Ti-3Si alloy increased obviously with trace B addition, but decreased slightly with trace Ce addition. The room-temperature fracture toughness of the Nb-22Ti-3Si alloy was degraded by the Ce addition but improved by the trace addition of B. The trace addition of B improved the compressive strength of the alloy at 1250°C. In contrast, the trace Ce addition degraded the compressive strength at 1250°C. The relationship between the microstructure and the mechanical properties was discussed.

Abstract:
Walnut anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides is a deleterious disease that severely affects the production of walnut (Juglans regia L.). The aim of this study was to assess the antifungal and growth promotion activities of Bacillus velezensis CE 100 as an alternative to chemical use in walnut production. The crude enzyme from B. velezensis CE 100 exhibited chitinase, protease, and β-l,3-glucanase activity and degraded the cell wall of C. gloeosporioides, causing the inhibition of spore germination and mycelial growth by 99.3% and 33.6% at 100 µL/mL, respectively. The field application of B. velezensis CE 100 culture broth resulted in a 1.3-fold and 6.9-fold decrease in anthracnose disease severity compared to the conventional and control groups, respectively. Moreover, B. velezensis CE 100 produced indole-3-acetic acid (up to 1.4 µg/mL) and exhibited the potential for ammonium production and phosphate solubilization to enhance the availability of essential nutrients. Thus, field inoculation of B. velezensis CE 100 improved walnut root development, increased nutrient uptake, enhanced chlorophyll content, and consequently improved total biomass by 1.5-fold and 2.0-fold compared to the conventional and control groups, respectively. These results demonstrate that B. velezensis CE 100 is an effective biocontrol agent against anthracnose disease and a potential plant growth-promoting bacteria in walnut tree production.

Abstract:
In order to reduce the segregation of Cr and Mo and inhibit the precipitates, we added a small amount of B and Ce to traditional S31254 steel. Using an air-cooling and low-temperature diffusion treatment, the purpose was to control B and Ce at the grain boundary. The heat-treatment process could prompt co-segregation of B, precipitate-forming elements, and Ce at the grain boundary at 950 °C. After aging at 950 °C for different amounts of time, the diffusion treatment had an obvious inhibitory effect on the precipitates that caused them to become discontinuous, fine, and serrated. The B-containing serrated precipitates were only rich in Mo, while Cr was homogeneously distributed in the probed volume. A uniform distribution of Cr reduced the Cr-depleted zone in the area adjacent to the phase interface. Ce was observed to be segregated at the grain boundary. This showed that Ce could inhibit the formation of precipitates at the grain boundary. The serrated precipitates had an obvious resistance to intergranular corrosion.

Abstract:
Background and Aims. In patients with ongoing overt obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OGIB), prompt detection of the bleeding source is crucial to treatment success. However, there is no consensus on the optimal timing of diagnostic capsule endoscopy (CE). We investigated the clinical utility of emergency CE for detecting the source of ongoing overt OGIB. Methods. We retrospectively evaluated 146 consecutive patients who, between February 2009 and July 2018, underwent emergency CE at Hiroshima University Hospital to detect the source of ongoing overt OGIB. Patients with a bleeding source located outside the small bowel were excluded. The remaining 127 patients were stratified according to the timing of CE relative to the onset of bleeding: patients in group A (n=15, 12 men; mean age: 75 years; age range: 62–83 years) underwent CE within 48 hours of bleeding onset, whereas patients in group B (n=112, 73 men; mean age: 65 years; age range: 17–88 years) underwent CE at >48 hours after bleeding onset. All patients underwent double-balloon endoscopy, and the final diagnosis was compared against the CE findings. Results. The CE lesion detection rate was significantly higher in group A (12/15 patients, 80%) than in group B (53/112 patients, 47%) (p=0.0174). There was no significant difference between the two groups regarding the patients’ background characteristics. Vascular lesions were the most frequent finding in both groups. The diagnostic concordance rate between emergency CE and double-balloon endoscopy was 100% in group A and 92.9% in group B. Rebleeding after endoscopic treatment was confirmed in only one patient in group B. Conclusions. Emergency CE represents a useful diagnostic modality in patients with ongoing overt OGIB, potentially improving detection rates and reducing rebleeding risk.

Abstract:
Abstract CePt6Al3 is a rare example of the Ce-based honeycomb lattice compound. Substitution of the isovalent Pt for Pd transforms the ground state from a paramagnetic heavy-fermion state to an antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordered state. To gain insight into the role of magnetic frustration in the honeycomb Kondo lattice, we have measured the magnetization M(B) and electrical resistivity ρ(B) of Ce(Pt1-x Pd x )6Al3 (x ≤ 0.3) in pulsed magnetic fields up to 60 T. For the single crystal with x = 0, M(B) for B along the easy c axis exhibits a metamagnetic increase and ρ(B || c) bends at Bm = 28 T. Taking the temperature at a shoulder in the magnetic susceptibility χ (ल) for B ‖ c as T χm = 17 K, the ratio μB B m/K B T >χm is estimated to be 1.1. This value agrees with those reported for Ce-based paramagnetic heavy-fermion compounds with similar magnitudes of B m. With increasing x from 0 to 0.3 in polycrystalline samples, the magnitude of M(B = 60 T) at 1.4 K increases from 0.75 to 2.0 μβ/Ce, indicating the recovery of localized 4f moments by the Pd substitution for Pt. Using the data of M(B) and ρ(B) for x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, we constructed B-T phase diagrams, which show a trend from a small moment AFM ordered state for x = 0.1 to a large moment AFM ordered state for x = 0.3.

The NiCexFe2-xO4 polycrystalline spinel compound with composition x = 0.005, 0.010, 0.015, and 0.02 was synthesized by the solid reaction method using the high energy milling (HEM) apparatus. Measurement of the neutron diffraction patterns is carried out at room temperature using a high resolution powder neutron diffractometer (HRPD), wavelength λ = 1.8213 Å. The measured neutron diffraction data were analyzed by the Rietveld method utilizing the FullProf analysis code. The results of the neutron diffraction pattern refinement revealed that the sample has a cubic symmetry, the Fd-3m space group, mixed inverse spinel structure, A-site occupied by cation Fe3+, Ni2+, dan Ce3+. Whereas the B-site is only occupied by Fe3+ and Ni2+. The mole fraction of Fe3+ at the B-site is greater than the Fe3+ mole fraction at the A-site, whereas the mole fraction of Ni2+ at the B-site is smaller than the mole fraction of Ni2+ at the B-site. As a result of Ce3+ doping, oxygen position parameters increase, magnetic moments on B-site, and the net magnetic moments decrease. Ni2+ concentrations at the A-site and the B-site were not affected by the amount of Ce3+ substitutions. Without substitution and after Ce3+ substitution, the O-site occupancy factor is still oxygen deficient.

Abstract:
AbstractMany developed techniques for rare-earths’ (REs) recovery from magnet scraps are highly sensitive to the oxidative roasting process of scraps under high temperature. This study focused on phase evolution, microstructural changes and element distribution during the roasting of the widely used Nd–Fe–B and high-potential Ce–Fe–B scrap powders at 800°C. The sustained oxidation of Fe to Fe2O3 and the constant formation of composite RE oxides were the main reaction processes with increasing roasting cycles for the two scrap powders. The complete oxidation phases consisted of NdBO3, NdFeO3 and Fe2O3 for the Nd–Fe–B scrap powder, while the final products were NdBO3, GdFeO3 and Fe2O3 as well as individual CeO2 for the Ce–Fe–B scrap powder. An oxygen diffusion front was observed, forming a dark gray oxidized layer with almost the same thickness on the large particle surface. Additionally, a Fe2O3 layer covered the particle surface when the oxidation of the two scrap powders was complete. In oxidized Nd–Fe–B particles, the observed white regions corresponded to the oxidized intergranular Nd-rich phase as indicated by the almost same size and position before and after roasting. In Ce–Fe–B particles, the oxidized intergranular phase appeared to gather and grow, and a RE-rich layer appeared between the oxide/unoxidized layer. Conclusively, the iron-outward diffusion and the oxygen-inward diffusion were dominated by the oxidation of both Nd–Fe–B and Ce–Fe–B particles.

Abstract:
In this study, the magnetic properties, coercivity mechanism, and magnetization reversal process were investigated for Ce-(Y)-Pr-Fe-B films. After the addition of Y and subsequent heating treatment, the formations of REO (RE ≡ Ce and Pr) and REFe2 (RE ≡ rare earths) phases are inhibited, and the microstructure of Ce-Y-Pr-Fe-B film is optimized. Meanwhile, the coercivity and the squareness of the hysteresis loop are significantly improved. The coercivity mechanism of Ce-Y-Pr-Fe-B film is determined to be a mixture of nucleation and pinning mechanisms, but dominated by the nucleation mechanism. The demagnetization results show that the nucleation of reversal magnetic domains leads to irreversible reversal. Our results are helpful to understand the coercivity mechanism and magnetization reversal of permanent magnetic films with multi-main phases.

Abstract:
Object. The aim of this study was to evaluate prospectively the results of treating cerebral aneurysms with coil embolization (CE) or with surgical clipping when CE was considered the first option.Methods. Whenever an aneurysm was to be treated, CE was first considered by our neurovascular team. Surgical clipping was reserved for cases excluded from CE or cases in which CE failed. The study consisted of 103 consecutive patients with 132 aneurysms, of which 127 were treated. Coil embolization was performed using Guglielmi detachable coils, and surgery was performed using Zeppelin clips. Three groups were defined: Group A consisted of 64 aneurysms that were treated by CE (neck/sac ratio < 1:3); Group B, 63 aneurysms that were surgically clipped; and Group C, 12 aneurysms that failed to be satisfactorily (≥ 95%) embolized and were subsequently clipped. The percentages of residual aneurysm were 31.2% in Group A, 1.6% in Group B, and 0% in Group C. The percentages of patients with poor Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) scores (GOS Scores 1–3) were 13.3% in Group A, 6.1% in Group B, and 8.3% in Group C. The percentages of poor outcome (GOS Scores 1–3) in patients with good clinical status before treatment were 10.7% in Group A, 0% in Group B, and 8.3% in Group C.Conclusions. Even with preselection, CE remains associated with a significant number of treatment failures and poor outcomes, even in patients with good preoperative clinical status. Surgical clipping can offer better results than CE, even for more complex aneurysms of the anterior circulation, especially for those involving the middle cerebral artery cases. However, because CE can be effective and causes less stress and invasiveness for the patient, it should be considered first in aneurysms strictly selected by a neurovascular team.
