Abstract:

Education has an important role in improving the quality of a nation, quality education will create a quality generation as well. This century requires students to have the skills to be ready to face existing challenges. Education is directed at preparing students who have skills, especially the ability to think critical thinking or critical thinking. This study aims to determine the effect of implementing cooperative learning model lerning, greeting techniques and questions on critical thinking skills. This research uses quantitative research, with samples using saturated sampling techniques. The data obtained in this study were obtained from the results of a questionnaire (questionnaire) and documentation. Further analyzed with the collected data then recapitulated after the data was collected from various sources, then the data were analyzed using quantitative data analysis techniques.After analyzing the effect of the application of the cooperative learning model learning the technique of sending greetings and questions on the skills of students at the Pondok Pesentren Putri Azzahro Palembang using the product moment correlation formula, it can be stated that there is a significant effect between the two variables, namely the application of the cooperative learning model, the technique of sending greetings and questions and Skills. This is indicated by ttable = 2.23 and tcount = 2.36, then tcount> ttable. Then the coefficient of determination / destermination is 12%. This shows the effect of the application of the Cooperative Learning Technique Learning Model on the Skills of Students at Pondok Pesentren Putri Azzahro Palembang. While the remaining 88% critical thinking skills at Pondok Pesentren Putri Azzahro Palembang are influenced by other factors.

Abstract:

A new tardigrade species of the genus Macrobiotus C.A.S. Schultze, 1834 from Kyrgyzstan, is described and illustrated in this paper. Macrobiotus rebecchii sp. nov. is a hermaphroditic and limnoterrestrial species found in a moss growing on a rock in Toluk village. Specimens of the new species were examined for its morphological details using contrast phase light microscope (PCM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Genetic data in the form of DNA sequences of commonly used molecular markers were also obtained (18S rRNA, COI). Phenotypically the new species is most similar to Macrobiotus joannae Pilato & Binda, 1983, Macrobiotus punctillus Pilato, Binda & Azzaro, 1990, and Macrobiotus hannae Nowak & Stec, 2018, but can be easily differentiated from all of them by its body granulation pattern.

Abstract:

This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach which aims to describe the strategies carried out by Al Mawaddah Jekulo Kudus Entrepreneur Islamic Boarding School and Shofa Azzahro 'Gembong Pati Islamic Boarding School, Central Java, Indonesia in fostering entrepreneurial character and santri leadership. Data collection methods used consist of interviews, documents, and observations, methods of data analysis using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the entrepreneurship activities of Al Mawaddah Jekulo Kudus Entrepreneurial Islamic Boarding School and Islamic Boarding School Shofa Azzahro 'Gembong went well. Likewise, the goal applied is that a santri must balance the life of the world and the hereafter. Because basically a santri must also think about the life of the world, not only those who are religious. The forms of entrepreneurship activities carried out are through training, dragon fruit cultivation, making chips from cassava, making Moka flour, syrup, sugar suppliers, cooperatives and umroh bureaus etc. The background of the activities carried out in Islamic boarding schools is to emulate the figure of the Prophet Muhammad who is a successful businessman figure and a form of modernization of learning activities in Islamic boarding schools in facing the challenges of the times. Entrepreneurship and leadership activities can be a medium in shaping the students to become independent individuals, stimulating creative ideas and intelligent communication with various groups.

Abstract:

Despite a long history of critical scholarship in physical education (PE), current research continues to show that PE is an exclusionary and marginalising space for many students. Hawkins suggests that philosophical pragmatism, cultural materialism, and health concerns are driving the field, to the extent that the foundations of PE are in jeopardy, and even in ‘crisis’. These trends are at odds with poststructuralist approaches to the field, and with (continued) calls for critical pedagogical practice. In this article, I reflect on these issues and consider four different approaches to critical pedagogy in the work of: Richard Tinning; Laura Azzarito; my own work with a teacher called Dan; and Kim Oliver and David Kirk. Drawing on this scholarship, I argue that critical practice is needed now more than ever, and I offer some thoughts about the future of this work.

Abstract:

<p><em>Despite their consideration as impolite remarks in communication, swearwords play an inseparable part from linguistics repertoire. As defined by Aijmer (2002:12), swearwords “[express] the speaker’s attitude towards the situation spoken about, his assumptions, his intentions, his emotions”. Carrying ‘negative’ label makes swearwords the centre of attention. Interestingly, movies that have turned into public entertainment sphere blooms the use of swearwords. The statement is supported by Azzaro (2005:1) who states that “television is often blamed for the circulation of once forbidden expression, and films in particular get the blame.” To add fuel to the fire, Cressman et al (2009) has also noted a rising frequency of swearwords usages in Hollywood movies. With the increasing number of Hollywood movies in Indonesia, English swearwords phenomena cannot be neglected. However, deleting or even softening swearwords will put the artistic touch of cinematography at stake. In this context, translators, especially subtitle translators, play an important role in dealing with swearwords phenomenon. As to introduce translation students to this complex matter, the writer gave them a subtitling task of swearwords. Twenty students consisting of twelve males and eight females were involved in this project and ‘8 Miles’ movie was used as the translation task. Surprisingly, both male and female students did not try to soften or delete the use of swearwords. Most of the English swearwords were adopted into Indonesian swearwords.</em></p>

Abstract:

ABSTRACT We present a set of revised ground-motion models (GMMs) for shallow events at Mt. Etna Volcano. The recent occurrence of damaging events, in particular two of the strongest earthquakes ever instrumentally recorded in the area, has required revising previous GMMs, as these failed to match the observations made for events with local magnitude ML>4.3, above all for sites situated close to the epicenter. The dataset now includes 49 seismic events, with a total of 1600 time histories recorded at distances of up to 100 km, and ML ranging from 3.0 to 4.8. The model gives estimates of peak ground acceleration (both horizontal and vertical), peak ground velocity (both horizontal and vertical), and 5% damped horizontal pseudoacceleration response spectral ordinates up to a period of 4 s. GMMs were developed using the functional form proposed by Boore and Atkinson (2008). Furthermore, with a slightly modified approach, we also considered a regression model using a pseudodepth (h) depending on magnitude according to the scaling law by Azzaro et al. (2017). Both models were applied to hypocentral distance ranges of up to 60 km and up to 100 km, respectively. From the statistical analysis, we found that reducing the maximum distance from the event up to 60 km and introducing a magnitude-dependent pseudodepth improved the model in terms of total error. We compared our results with those derived using the GMMs for shallow events at Mt. Etna found by Tusa and Langer (2016) and for volcanic areas by Lanzano and Luzi (2019). The main differences are observed at short epicentral distances and for higher magnitude events. The use of variable pseudodepth avoids sharp peaks of predicted ground-motion parameters around the epicenter, preventing instabilities when using a GMM in probabilistic seismic hazard analysis.

Abstract:

Contemporary Theater is greatly influenced by the changes happening politically and socially all over the world. Man no longer looks for being part of a society or defining himself according to certain standards of tradition; he/she no longer search for their identity or feel suffocated by the new technology, his main concern in contemporary age is to redefine the identity away from politics and the judgmental eye of the society he is living in. Man is calling for resurrections of the god he admitted killing during the past millennium. A new perception of that god has been defined and this seems to be interesting in a world ruled by fighting sectors of extremists who are classified into two categories those who are against the rule of that god and those who are with. This paper examines the perception of that god in two different societies by two authors through studying their plays to explain how this theme is pictured by the two. The first is the American controversial playwright Tony Kushner who’s Angels In America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes; Perestroika raised epic questions in this matter, the other playwright is the Iraqi dramatist Ali Abdul Nabi Azzaidi who’s play Ya Rab/Oh!God introduced a new trend in the Iraqi theater. The paper adopts a socio-political school of criticism to achieve its goals.

Abstract:

A lot of music researchers consider musical improvisation and composition to be a mutually supplementing processes (Alperson, 1984; Sloboda, 1988; Sarath, 1996). Improvisation actively stimulates the development of children’s creative abilities. It stirs the imagination, develops musical ear, emotional receptivity, and the skill of embodying images into new consonances, musical colors (Azzara, 2008; Solis & Nettl, 2009; Burton & Taggart, 2011). During the process of improvisation learners spontaneously express their musical ideas and interact with musical content, while during the process of composition it is possible to stop, to think everything over, to correct something and change it. Improvising and composing at sol-fa lessons are classified as kinds of creative music making. This paper is concerned with the analysis of the types of creative tasks at group classes on sol-fa, as well as with the comparison of different approaches to and methods of the formation and development of creative skills in improvisation and composition in the initial stage. Research aim: to determine and characterize the specific features of using improvisation and composition at sol-fa lessons in the initial stage. Research methods: the analysis of pedagogical experience, the comparison of contemporary methodologies for teaching improvisation and composition.

Abstract:

Abstract. This paper describes the model implementation and presents results of a probabilistic seismic hazard assessment (PSHA) for the Mt. Etna volcanic region in Sicily, Italy, considering local volcano-tectonic earthquakes. Working in a volcanic region presents new challenges not typically faced in standard PSHA, which are broadly due to the nature of the local volcano-tectonic earthquakes, the cone shape of the volcano and the attenuation properties of seismic waves in the volcanic region. These have been accounted for through the development of a seismic source model that integrates data from different disciplines (historical and instrumental earthquake datasets, tectonic data, etc.; presented in Part 1, by Azzaro et al., 2017) and through the development and software implementation of original tools for the computation, such as a new ground-motion prediction equation and magnitude–scaling relationship specifically derived for this volcanic area, and the capability to account for the surficial topography in the hazard calculation, which influences source-to-site distances. Hazard calculations have been carried out after updating the most recent releases of two widely used PSHA software packages (CRISIS, as in Ordaz et al., 2013; the OpenQuake engine, as in Pagani et al., 2014). Results are computed for short- to mid-term exposure times (10 % probability of exceedance in 5 and 30 years, Poisson and time dependent) and spectral amplitudes of engineering interest. A preliminary exploration of the impact of site-specific response is also presented for the densely inhabited Etna's eastern flank, and the change in expected ground motion is finally commented on. These results do not account for M > 6 regional seismogenic sources which control the hazard at long return periods. However, by focusing on the impact of M < 6 local volcano-tectonic earthquakes, which dominate the hazard at the short- to mid-term exposure times considered in this study, we present a different viewpoint that, in our opinion, is relevant for retrofitting the existing buildings and for driving impending interventions of risk reduction.

Abstract:

Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) is a surgical procedure to treat benign prostate hyperplasia. The planned surgical procedure will make the patient feel anxious. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Islamic-based preoperative teaching on the anxiety level of TUR-P preoperative patients in the Azzara 2 hospital room. Islam Jemursari Surabaya. Quasi-experimental research design with a pre and post-test control group design approach. The sample size used 24 residential respondents, which were then divided into 12 respondents in the intervention group and 12 respondents in the control group. The procedure is performed when the patient is hospitalized until near the operation. Data collection was carried out by measuring the level of anxiety before and after the Islamic-based preoperative teaching. Data were then analyzed using the Willcoxon and Mann Whitney tests. The results showed that Islamic-based preoperative teaching affected reducing anxiety levels in pre-operative patients. TUR-P analysis of the Mann-Whitney test showed a p-value of 0.002. Abstract:

Cylindrocladium pauciramosum C.L. Schoch & Crous (teleomorph Calonectria pauciramosa C.L. Schoch & Crous), described as a member of the Cylindrocladium candelabrum Viégas complex (4), was recently reported from Europe (3). In southern Italy, the fungus has caused extensive losses, and chemical control measures are necessary, especially in ornamental nurseries. Several researchers have found benzimidazole fungicides to be effective for control of different species of Cylindrocladium, however, in fungicide trials conducted on myrtle plants infected by C. pauciramosum, benomyl was ineffective (2). Another study showed that mycelial growth of six isolates was completely inhibited by carbendazim at a concentration of 1 μg a.i./ml whereas, concentrations of 10, 100, and 500 μg a.i./ml did not completely inhibit growth of four isolates (1). To examine benzimidazole resistance in C. pauciramosum, 200 single-conidia isolates were tested. These were collected during 1996 and 1997 from several symptomatic hosts in different nurseries located in Sicily and Calabria and identified through morphological characteristics as well as mating-type studies with tester strains. Sensitivity to benomyl was determined by plating mycelial plugs on potato dextrose agar (PDA) amended with benomyl at 1, 10, 100, and 500 μg a.i./ml. For 20 benomyl-resistant isolates, fungal growth was also determined at the same concentrations on carbendazim-amended PDA. Sensitivity was expressed as the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) (the lowest fungicide concentration that completely prevented fungal growth). Isolates that did not grow on benzimidazole-amended PDA were classed as sensitive. Isolates were considered resistant to benzimidazole if MIC values were greater than 1 μg a.i./ml. Of the 200 isolates tested, 58% were resistant to benomyl. The benomyl-resistant isolates tested for carbendazim sensitivity were cross-resistant to carbendazim. Most resistant isolates grew in the presence of benomyl at 500 μg a.i./ml. On agar culture, the isolates were either the fast-growing or slow-growing type. The slow-growing phenotype appears to be related to the higher level of resistance (500 μg a.i./ml). On the basis of these data, the use of benzimidazole for the control of this pathogen should be seriously questioned. Abstract:

Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar o trabalho com gênero do discurso em plano de aula de língua portuguesa do Portal do Professor. O foco recai sobre o exame dos aspectos temáticos, estilísticos e composicionais do gênero do discurso notícia explorado em um plano recortado como corpus do estudo. Interessa responder a seguinte questão: propõe-se efetivamente um trabalho com gênero do discurso e que considere suas especificidades? Como ancoragem teórica, o trabalho assume, principalmente, estudos do denominado Círculo de Bakhtin (BAKHTIN; 2016; MEDVIÉDEV, 2016; VOLÓCHINOV, 2017) sobre a abordagem dialógica e ideológica da linguagem, com ênfase nas discussões sobre gêneros do discurso, e trabalhos de estudiosos que discutem questões ligadas ao ensino de língua materna, dentre os quais Barbosa (2000), Rodrigues (2001), Maieski (2005) e Acosta (2008. Este segundo número do nono volume da revista Texto Livre: Linguagem e Tecnologia traz dezoito textos com diferentes contribuições para se pensar sobre questões relativas à Linguística, à Literatura, à Educação e às Tecnologias, especialmente as digitais livres. Destacam-se nos textos publicados a noção de leitura em tempos de cibercultura, incluindo novos estilos e modos de ser que emergem das práticas sociais, que levam à necessidade de novos letramentos; as vantagens da criatividade na utilização de recursos digitais no ensino de línguas; as contribuições de diferentes métodos de pesquisa e análise e as aplicações nos cenários apresentados; análise dos usos de softwares livres na educação, mostrando como eles são relevantes para uma educação aberta e crítica; e as questões peculiares na produção de material didático e sua adequação ao contexto, como no caso da inclusão e do trabalho com multimodalidades.No primeiro eixo temático ou trilha deste número, Linguística e Tecnologia, temos seis artigos publicados. Paula Daniele Pavan, em “O que é uma obra?”: entre a estabilidade e o deslize em tempos de internet, discute a noção de obra, entre a estabilização ao deslizamento de sentidos, a partir dos efeitos de sentido gerados no discurso oficial e no discurso de debate – materializados nas Leis de Direitos Autorais 5.988, de 14 de dezembro de 1973, e 9.610, de 19 de fevereiro de 1998, e em textos produzidos durante o processo de reformulação da Lei de Direitos Autorais 9.610/1998. Em A interatividade na poesia digital: palavra, imagem e som em movimento, Simone Dália de Gusmão Aranha e Olivia Rodrigues Borborema discutem sobre características da poesia digital e níveis de interatividade presentes em manifestações desse gênero discursivo, mostrando em cada caso a participação prevista ao hiperleitor, de participação passiva a mais ativa. As autoras Maria José Bocorny Finatto, Monica Stefani, Aline Evers e Bianca Franco Pasqualini, em Vocabulário, complexidade textual e compreensão de leitura em ambientes digitais de ensino: uma investigação inicial com alunos do ensino médio, relatam uma investigação inicial que pretendeu qualificar a elaboração e a facilidade de uso de recursos didáticos para Educação a Distância (EAD) na área de Letras/Língua Portuguesa e Leitura.O artigo espanhol Intertextualidad y coherencia en una crónica de João Ubaldo Ribeiro: abordajes en lectocomprensión, de Carlos Alberto Pasero, nos ensina sobre parâmetros de textualidade como formas de acesso ao texto e que contribuem para a construção de sentido. Para isso, ele recorre a uma crônica literária de caráter argumentativo em língua portuguesa, “Questões gramaticais”, de João Ubaldo Ribeiro. Para fechar essa trilha, em Olhares sobre a linguagem em redes sociais e suas interfaces com a educação crítica e pluralista, Eliane Fernandes Azzari e Rosineide de Melo analisam duas postagens no Facebook a fim de estabelecer possíveis diálogos entre os conceitos de cronotopo e arquitetônica. Com o texto Ética hacker, campos de experimentação e as possibilidades da educação aberta, Ana Carolina Sampaio Coelho coloca em questão os conceitos de “educação aberta” e “educação bancária”, a partir de conceitos tomados de alguns teóricos, como o de “rizoma”, de Deleuze e Guatarri,e “linhas de errância”, de Deligny. Abstract:

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the implementation of the developed pharmaceutical Indonesian language textbooks with Scientific Approach in Indonesian language subject in Pharmacy Vocational Schools in Kendal Regency. This study was a quasi-experimental design on the implementation of the developed pharmaceutical Indonesian language textbooks to all grade ten students of the Pharmacy Vocational Schools. Respondents of this study were 97 students who took part in learning using the Ministry of Education and Culture’s textbooks and the developed pharmaceutical textbooks with scientific approach. The t-test results at 0.005 significance level indicate that the implementation of the developed pharmaceutical Indonesian language textbooks with scientific approach is effective because it has an effect on improving the Indonesian language learning outcomes. Students’ average scores of learning outcomes have increased by learning using the pharmaceutical Indonesian language textbooks. Students’ learning outcomes from the five schools have increased as follow: (1) student learning outcomes at Azzahro vocational school increased by 4.45; (2) an increase of 9.17 in student learning outcomes at Bhakti Kencana vocational school; (3) an increase of 5.42 in student learning outcomes at Insan Medika vocational school; (4) an increase in student learning outcomes at Ngesti Widhi vocational school by 5.77; and (5) an increase in student learning outcomes at Taman Siswa Boja vocational school by 4.60. The increase in the score indicates that the implementation of the developed pharmaceutical Indonesian language textbooks with scientific approach for grade ten students of the Pharmacy Vocational Schools is feasible because it has a positive effect on the student learning outcomes.
