Abstract:
A combined effect of mercerized and dyed yarns on physical properties of plain single jersey knitted fabrics has been studied. Plied cotton yarn was produced and mercerized at different NaOH concentrations and temperatures. Then, this yarn was bleached and dyed with two types of dyes, vat dyeing and reactive dyeing. Each of mechanical and color properties were measured to these treated yarns. Plain single jersey knitted fabrics were produced from these treated yarns. The total evaluation of the properties for plain single jersey fabrics was measured by using radar chart method. It was found that the highest area of radar chart, which represents the total physical properties, is achieved at 32°Be′, in case of vat dyeing. Besides, analysis of variance (AVOVA) and MANOVA were applied to illustrate which of the properties would be affected by NaOH con. and types of dyeing for yarns and fabrics.

Abstract:
The present paper studied the experimental investigation on electrical discharge coating of ZE41A magnesium alloy (EDC) with tungsten carbide-copper (WC/Cu) powder metallurgy (PM) electrode. In order to attain the surface characteristics, three parameters were selected such as compaction load, current and pulse on time. Response characteristics such as material transfer rate (MTR) and surface roughness (Ra) were considered in this study. Central composite design in response surface methodology was applied to conduct experiments. Empirical models were developed for MTR and SR. AVOVA test was conducted to identify the most influence parameters. Additionally, optimized parameters were identified by response surface optimizer. It is observed that the current play a vital role in increasing the MTR and minimize the SR of the coated surface followed by compaction load and pulse on time. Various studies such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were carried out on the coated surface. Bulk mass deposition and bigger craters were observed in the surface coated with 150 MPa and 3A respectively.

Abstract:
The effect of roll drawing process parameters on geometrical characteristics of flat roll draw wires is analyzed. Low carbon steel wires AISI 1010 are used in the experimental tests to assess the final geometry, mainly characterized by the width of flat wires, varying among several experimental levels the main process parameters i.e., initial wire dimensions, height reduction and lubrication conditions. Design of experiment technique was used to define the experimental plan and statistical techniques, such as analysis of mean (ANOM) and variance (AVOVA), were used to evaluate the effective influence of previous cited process parameters on final geometry of wire. A finite element model is developed to investigate a further process parameter i.e. the working rolls dimensions. In order to validate the finite element model, a campaign of experimental tests was conducted and the geometrical predictions of FE model were compared with experimental mea-surements with particular attention to final wire width, width of contact area and wire elongation. A linear regression analysis was performed and an empirical formulation to forecast the lateral spread of wire according to the main process parameters was developed.

Abstract:
AbstractObjectiveThe present study was conducted to determine the impact of a community-based intervention on the nutritional behaviour of a representative sample of Iranian adults.DesignThe Isfahan Healthy Heart Programme (IHHP), a six-year, action-oriented, integrated community-based study aimed at health promotion through the reduction of CVD risk factors, targeted the whole population living in two intervention cities, and compared outcomes with the population of a non-intervention city considered as reference. Dietary interventions were performed as educational, environmental and/or legislative strategies. A global dietary index (GDI) was calculated representing the general dietary behaviour. In addition, two consumption indices were calculated for specific food groups, i.e. meat products and major sources of fat. Univariate AVOVA was conducted to evaluate the impact of the intervention on dietary behaviours.SettingIsfahan and Najaf-Abad (intervention cities) and Arak (reference city), central Iran.SubjectsThe baseline survey was conducted among 12514 randomly selected adults aged ≥19 years in both intervention and reference areas. The survey was repeated annually among about 5000 persons (2002–2005) in the intervention and reference communities.ResultsAccording to significant year × group interactions in mean fat consumption index (FCI) and meat consumption index (MCI) in the total population, a significant improvement in FCI and MCI was found in the intervention areasv. the reference area (P< 0·001). In addition, the GDI improved significantly in the intervention areasv. the reference area (P< 0·001).ConclusionsThe IHHP interventions were effective in improving dietary behaviours at the population level. The highest effectiveness was documented in the change in the type of fat consumed. Such simple and integrated interventions can be adopted in other developing countries with limited financial resources.

Abstract:
Background:Prior to reperfusion, a variable period of ischaemia occurs in transplanted donor organs There is growing evidence that apoptosis contributes to the ischaemia-reperfusion injury conundrum that follows, but its extent has not been precisely quantified. Understanding its extent and effects can help find ways to mitigate or counteract such an injury in the liver. We therefore evaluated the extent of apoptosis semi-quantitatively from the expression of Caspase-3 and M30 in a porcine ex-vivo hepatic ischaemia-reperfusion injury model and correlated the timing of expression of M30 antibody with that of Caspase-3.Method:Livers were harvested from three healthy white Landrace Cross pigs and perfused for six hours using oxygenated extracorporeal circuits with heparinized autologous blood at 380C as described in our previous work [1]. A 2-hour delay prior to perfusion represented the period of ischaemia. All the livers were uniformly perfused. Three biopsies were taken for each of 7 time points (total 21); before dissection of the liver (BD) of the livers, after dissection (AD), after connection (AC) to the circuit, at one hour perfused (1hrP) & non-perfused (1hrNP), at 4 hours perfused (4hrP) and non-perfused (4hrNP). Samples were stained with standard Haematoxylin–Eosin (HE) and immunohistochemically with Caspase-3 and M30 monoclonal antibodies. Positive cells were quantified using an ocular grid and expressed as number per square area. Cells positive for Caspase-3 & M30 antibodies were counted on the whole section. Data were expressed as median number per square millimetre. Statistical analysis was done using AVOVA and t-test.Results: After four hours of perfusion, multiple areas of perfusion defects appeared macroscopically in all 3 livers. HE staining confirmed that these non-perfused areas were ischaemic. There was a gradual increase in Caspase-3 expression over time in all samples. There was no statistically significant difference in the Capase-3 and M30 between the 9 specimens at 1hrP (P=0.06) but there was a highly significant difference between Caspase-3 and M30 at 1hrNP (0.001). Caspase-3 expression peaked at 4hrP (P=0.001) and 4hrNP (P=0.03). A similar pattern was noted with M30 which peaked at 1hrP (P=0.001) and maintained a non-significant expression at 4hrP (P=0.07) and 4hNP (P=0.1).Conclusion: The significant expression of Caspase-3 and M30 confirms that apoptosis plays an important part in tissue loss in this model of liver ischemia-reperfusion injury. Inhibiting both Caspase-3 and M30 might be useful in alleviating hepatic reperfusion injury.?

Abstract:
‘‘SARS-CoV-2’’ which is responsible for the current pandemic of COVID-19 disease was first reported from Wuhan, China, on 31 December 2019. Since then, to prevent its propagation around the world, a set of rapid and strict countermeasures have been taken. While most of the researchers around the world initiated their studies on the Covid-19 lockdown effect on air quality and concluded pollution reduction, the most reliable methods that can be used to find out the reduction of the pollutants in the air are still in debate. In this study, we performed an analysis on how Covid-19 lockdown procedures impacted the air quality in selected cities i.e. New Delhi, Diepkloof, Wuhan, and London around the world. The results show that the air quality index (AQI) improved by 43% in New Delhi,18% in Wuhan,15% in Diepkloof, and 12% in London during the initial lockdown from the 19th of March 2020 to 31st May 2020 compared to that of four-year pre-lockdown. Furthermore, the concentrations of four main pollutants, i.e., NO2, CO, SO2, and PM2.5 were analyzed before and during the lockdown in India. The quantification of pollution drop is supported by statistical measurements like the AVOVA Test and the Permutation Test. Overall, 58%, 61%,18% and 55% decrease is observed in NO2, CO,SO2, and PM2.5 concentrations, respectively. To check if the change in weather has played any role in pollution level reduction or not we analyzed how weather factors are correlated with pollutants using a correlation matrix. Finally, machine learning regression models are constructed to assess the lockdown impact on air quality in India by incorporating weather data. Gradient Boosting is performed well in the Prediction of drop-in PM2.5 concentration on individual cities in India. By comparing the feature importance ranking by regression models supported by correlation factors with PM2.5.This study concludes that COVID-19 lockdown has a significant effect on the natural environment and air quality improvement.

Abstract:
This dissertation addresses three fundamental problems with the network software as it is currently designed and implemented: the poor performance of high modular (or layered) protocols, network software's inability to keep up with the rapid changes in the networking technology and applications demands, and the inordinate amount of time it takes to produce new network protocols. These problems are solved through the use of a new platform for the implementation and execution of network protocols, a new methodology for the design of network protocols and a new network architecture a new network architecture. Avoca is the result of taking a coordinated approach to network software design, implementation, and standardization and consists of three parts: the Avoca platform, the Avoca methodology and the Avoca Network Architecture. The Avoca platform is a small operating systems kernel designed from scratch to implement network protocols efficiently. The Avoca methodology (or Meta-Protocol) is set of rules governing the design and implementation of network protocols implemented on the Avoca platform. The Avoca Network Architecture is a novel architecture explicitly designed to support the rapidly changing networking environment. Using Avoca highly layered network software can be implemented efficiently. Avoca proves that modularity is not inherently slow. Avoca supports the encapsulation, underspecification, composition and reuse of protocols will demonstrated. Avoca shows that network software is amenable to the use of software engineering techniques to improve the protocol implementation process. Finally, Avoca demonstrates that a network architecture flexible enough to support a rapidly changing networking environment is possible.

Abstract:
Thesis (MMus)-- Stellenbosch University, 2013.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: It is ironic that with so much interest in singing as a career, the possiblities for trained singers are getting less and less, especially in South Africa. With reality programmes such as Idols and Superstars, the popular music world is overflowed with singers with little, if any, voice training. Then there are also singers who try to establish themselves as crossover artists and perform opera arias on stages such as the KKNK Classic Pops and Die Burger’s Afri-Klassiek concerts accompanied by South Africa’s foremost symphony and philharmonic orchestras. But what about the classical singer who cross over into other genres of singing and like some local and international artists have proved to us, musicals could be a genre to explore. This study explore the possiblity of this type of crossover from classical singing to musical singing. By listening to sound recordings and using a series of musical volumes, songs were identified that the classical singer could sing without harming his or her voice technique. One of the success stories of this type of crossover is the Capetonian soprano, Aviva Pelham. In 1972 Pelham established herself as an opera singer in Cape Town and then confused the classical world with her appearance as Eliza Doolittle in 1978. After that she had a successful career on both classical and musical stages. During her career of nearly 40 years as performing artist, Pelham appeared in 28 different opera roles, 11 different operetta roles and 10 musical roles. Aviva Pelham’s achievements were laureated with a Cape Nederburg Opera Prize, four FNB Vita Awards and in 2000 an Arts, Culture and Heritage Award from the Western Cape Minister for Environment and Culture

Abstract:
The Garpenberg mine, owned by the Boliden Mining group, has established a trial area at Dammsjön orebody in order to examine the possibility of increasing the productivity of the mine. The mine uses the rill mining method with a current rill height of 15 m. In order to increase the productivity, the mine is examining the possibility of increasing the height of the rill. The trial area is located at 882 m depth surrounded by dolomite on the hangingwall and quartzitic rock on the footwall side. Rock support arches have been installed, in addition to the regular support pattern, to test their effectiveness on stabilizing the ground around the drifts. The arches have been installed in every 6 m and every 3 m in different parts of the test area. Rock samples from the trial area were brought to the university laboratory for testing. The data gathered from the laboratory tests along with the data from the monitoring of the trial area were used to develop a calibrated numerical model. A three-dimensional (3-D) model was therefore created, by using the FLAC3D numerical code. After the calibration of the model a parametric study was conducted for different rill heights and different arch spacing to investigate the performance of the arches. Specifically, the case of no arch installation along with the cases of an installed arch every 6 m and 3 m were tested, for the rill heights of 15 m, 20 m, 25 m and 30 m. The study concluded that the arches assisted in reducing the ground convergence in the production drift. The results also showed that the total height of the rill bench yields regardless of its height. After the yielding, the rockmass can no longer support itself and caves under its own weight. The larger the rill height, the larger the volume of loose rock that has to be supported and thus, higher the convergence. Furthermore, it was also observed that, significant amount of convergence in the production drift occurred during the drifting of the top drive and less during the stoping of the rill bench. This indicates that, the timely installation of the arches is an important criterion for their performance.

Abstract:
Aviva Aron-Dine, Liran Einav, Amy Finkelstein, Mark Cullen (2015), Moral Hazard in Health Insurance: Do Dynamic Incentives Matter?
