Abstract:

Personal transportation has a large and increasing impact on people, society, and the environment globally. Computational energy-use simulation is becoming a key tool for automotive research and development in designing efficient, sustainable, and consumer acceptable personal transportation systems. Historically, research in personal transportation system design has not been held to the same standards as other scientific fields in that classical experimental design concepts have not been followed in practice. Instead, transportation researchers have built their analyses around available automotive simulation tools, but conventional automotive simulation tools are not well-equipped to answer system-level questions regarding transportation system design, environmental impacts, and policy analysis.

The proposed work in this dissertation aims to provide a means for applying more relevant simulation and analysis tools to these system-level research questions. First, I describe the objectives and requirements of vehicle energy-use simulation and design research, and the tools that have been used to execute this research. Next this dissertation develops a toolset for constructing system-level design studies with structured investigations and defensible hypothesis testing. The roles of experimental design, optimization, concept of operations, decision support, and uncertainty are defined for the application of automotive energy simulation and system design studies.

The results of this work are a suite of computational design and analysis tools that can serve to hold automotive research to the same standard as other scientific fields while providing the tools necessary to complete defensible and objective design studies.

Abstract:
A large percentage of automobile accidents in city traffic occur at speeds below 15 mph. Unfortunately there is a scarcity of experimental crash data at these low speeds to help investigators to reconstruct accidents. Accident reconstruction experts have consequently attached a low level of confidence to speed predictions from vehicle crush at the low end of the speed spectrum. The need for more experimental crash data, especially in a low speed range, has repeatedly been mentioned by accident investigators. The University of British Columbia Accident Research Croup has constructed a crash test facility in conjunction with the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia to address this need. The lCBC-UBC barrier is a low speed crash test facility. A description of the ICBC-UBC crash barrier, its systems and crash testing techniques at the ICBC-UBC facility are presented in this thesis. Also multiple impacts on the same vehicle are investigated to see if this technique provided accumulated crush data that reproduced known high speed crashes. In addition, the preliminary findings are presented on the impact speed to initiate permanent crush and subsequent implications toward vehicle crush characteristics in a low speed range.

In the automobile manufacturing industry, vehicle production is an assembly-line process. Automobile companies typically sequence vehicle production based on workload balancing factors, with little consideration of vehicle colors. The resulting sequence usually has a small average paint block size. Because automobile manufacturers use expensive and sometimes pollutant chemicals to clean out old paint at each color change, they would like to increase the size of the paint blocks, while maintaining the original workload-balanced vehicle sequence. To achieve this goal, Ford and other automobile manufacturers are considering automated vehicle storage and retrieval systems that would allow them to perturb the original sequence around the vehicle painting station, creating larger paint blocks and then restoring the original sequence after painting. To evaluate these systems, it is necessary to develop a method for re sequencing cars and for calculating the resulting savings in paint cleanings. The problem of resequencing can be cast as a traveling salesman problem with time windows. For a real-life sequence size of 750 cars and windows of 75 slots per car in either direction, direct modeling using the strongest known ... formulation yields an integer program with up to 200,000 constraints and 14,000,000 variables. Reduced formulations. We exploit special problem structure to solve the LP relaxation of this problem quickly using Lagrangean relaxation. We prove and use an order-within-color property to construct an enumerative formulation, and use a greedy approach to bound the LP optimum. We decompose the problem and solve smaller enumerative formulations sequentially to generate a heuristic solution that empirically is within 2.5% of optimality. Because our heuristic and bounding procedure runs in a total of one minute, an automobile manufacturer could use the process to adjust the resequencing process in real time to compensate for vehicles that have been delayed in the original sequence due to production defects or other disruptions. We also establish worst-case bounds ranging from 2.5 to 6 for another related heuristic.

Abstract:
Before 1950, the Chinese automobile industry did not exist, let alone manufacturing passenger cars. Currently, the Chinese automobile market has become the largest market in the world. Chinese companies have launched their own brand of passenger cars to compete with other international companies in the world only in 30 years. In our research, we analysed the development of the Chinese automobile industry from the perspective of knowledge transfer. This study employed qualitative method to conduct the research and a Chinese automobile company was taken as an example. To analyse the process of knowledge transfer, we created an analytical model which is based on previous research. The primary data to test the model comes from three interviews, which were conducted with employees working as manager and engineer in the Chinese automobile industry. The secondary data was collected to complement the primary data. All data were used to present a holistic view of the process researched. Our results show that the rapid growth began with the attention of the Chinese government who set the Chinese automobile industry as the "pillar industry" of the Chinese economy. Then, the rapid development of the Chinese automobile industry greatly depends on the process of cross-border knowledge transfer, which is significantly influenced by the Chinese government. Our main contribution is that the process of knowledge transfer can work well within an environment controlled by the government, in spite of lacking the enablers examined in previous studies (e.g. trust). Another contribution is the analytical model we created to analyse the whole process of knowledge transfer.

Automobile insurance fraud is an issue that has fallen on deaf ears in Taiwan’s insurance market and there is no sufficient statistics for reference. In fact, the insurance fraud is common in our insurance industry. In life insurance market, the breach of disclosure and the double insurance dispute are often involved in moral hazard. Furthermore, the abnormal losses are also found in the non-life insurance industry, especially in the marine cargo insurance, the fire insurance and the automobile insurance. This situation which leads loss ratio much higher than normal can not be neglected. Insurance fraud makes high profit especially when the economy goes to depression. The rapid growth of Insurance Fraud could be a threat to an insurance company. Thus, this research, 「The Research of Automobile Insurance Fraud」 divides the automobile insurance fraud into two major parts, one is underwriting and the other is claim. There are 20 types of automobile fraud. The top 3 causes are applying for insurance after loss on underwriting side, making up an insurance loss and making fake insurance accidents on claim side. In order to identify, avoid and prevent the insurance fraud for insurance companies, consumers, government and other related parties, there are 4 conclusions in this research. The first is to understand and analyze the types of insurance fraud. The second is to enhance the professional training for insurance employees. The third is to conduct internal auditing. The last is to enforce legal guidance for cooperating shops and related parties. This research concludes two ideas that could be provided to the non-life insurance operation. The first idea is to make anti insurance fraud law into practice. The contents are to enforce the function of the insurance anti-fraud institute of the R.O.C., to establish the dynamic tracking system of the insurance fraud, to set up the special telephone line for informing the crime and rewards, to amend related laws, to set up anti insurance fraud policy unit, to establish the network among the insurance industry, the medical industry, and the police, to educate more on insurance. The second idea is more cooperation to the insurance industry, including professional anti-fraud training, anti insurance fraud reporting system, insurance product design enforcement, international market linking, and social responsibility.

Taiwan automobile market since 2002 to join the WTO, with the deregulation of the market liberalization, import car market share has increased year by year. In the face of the competition of imported cars, domestic automobile industry in the automotive market development strategy trends why it is worth in-depth discussion. A strategy group is a useful analysis tool for analyzing strategic actions in different industries in the same industry. This study takes the domestic automobile industry in Taiwan as the research object, discusses the development strategy of domestic automobile industry from 2002 to 2016, the movement situation of Taiwan automobile market strategy group, and the difference of production and sales of each group of strategic groups. Research methods, first of all with a large number of secondary information, for the development of important events in-depth analysis of the company, and then interview the information of the industry summarized, as a proposition discussion. Finally, the conclusions of the study, the industry and follow-up research recommendations. The conclusion of this study shows that the domestic automobile industry in Taiwan is divided into three groups according to the Local Content Rate and the automobile price: (1) the strategy group of the independent brand product group; (2) the technology cooperation product strategy group; (3) OEM and assembly strategy group. The group of industry in the company's development strategy of autonomy, the key technology to master the ability of the market production and marketing geographical scope, have presented significant differences. During the period from 2002 to 2016, four groups of strategic groups were moved, moving both active and passive to the two extreme groups of Local Content Rate. Active mobile industry, mainly to master the key components and technical resources capacity-based; passive mobile industry, mainly based on the technical master plant strategy layout. The strategy group is the best in the sales volume and the strategy group. After moving the industry in the sales part of the initiative to move to its own brand product strategy to guide the group of LUXGEN, showing an upward trend in sales. And passive to the foundry and assembly strategy to guide the group of Ford Lio Ho, in the sales showed a significant decline in the trend.

This initial discussion highlights the defects of the automobile insurance system. A case study was chosen as the method to efficiently grasp the magnitude of this phenomenon. The goal of this research is to go beyond the problems , but also find truthful transparent resolution. By using this research, the property insurance industry can discover and thoroughly the potential problems and can suggest for future corrections. This research is base on cases of the current voluntary automobile insurance and compulsory automobile liability insurance. By analyzing these cases step by step and discussing the controversy of relative problems by uncovering potential problems. This research is a methodical approach to finding solutions to these recurring problems. In addition, offer suggestions for improvement in accordance to the current insurance law and insurance problem resolution procedure. This research can be used as future reference tool for improvement of Automobile insurance system.

Automobile dealership is a highly competitive and saturated market. New car sales face a stagnant growth with declining profit, sometimes selling at a loss. After-sales service and maintemance have become the main source of profit and assume the responsibility of the dealship’s survival. The advantages and disadvantages of the automobile dealership’s service strategy and its execution influence the performance of the dealship and it is also where the competitiveness of the dealership lies. The study takes the automobile dealership in Taiwan as the research subject. Through literature review, collected and integrated are the various scholars’ views on industrial analysis, value chain analysis, and business strategy. Experts of automobile industry also discussed the after-sales business strategies through analyzing the industrial characteristics, market environment, and competitive advantage strategies of the automobile industry. In addition, the practice of the case dealership is employed to verify its business effectivenss. The study looked into the business philosophy, management model, manpower management, parts management, and process improvement of the case dealership’s service strategies for the reference of automobile dealship operators and relevant practioners. Overall, the after-sales service and maintenance has become the key to the dealership survival. In addition to the vertical commitment in expanding service and maintenance business, the horizontal creation and development in the value-added chain of the relevant peripheral products require further devotion. The efforts put into the development of peripheral products are how the dealership can create the competitive advantages of differentiation.

In the last 10 years, busy international business activities and increasing GNP have made Taiwan an important marketplace in the world, especially for luxury goods. Famous global-branded products are imported mainly through two types of channel. One is authorized, and the other is unauthorized-- so called "gray marketing channels". Genuine goods parallel importation issue causes lots of conflicts between authorized agents and unauthorized traders. Besides, foreign manufacturers, cosumers and government trade policy are all involved. The objectives of this research are to explore these intertype channel conflicts and their causes; to identify power relationship between automobile agents and traders. After surveying 10 agents and 10 traders,we reach several conclusions: 1.Both agents and traders have some power bases derived from their organization structural characteristics. 2."Price" and "service & maintenance" are the most significant fields of power interaction and channel conflict. 3.Dependence between agents and traders is not significant. 4.Through "relationship with foreign manufacturer", "selling capability", and "specialty & variety of motors", agents get countervaling power against traders. 5.The highest conflict levels exist in "Price", "service & maintenance" and "competition for customers". 6.Major factors affecting agents'' and traders'' decisions to deal with conflicts are position, organization capability, channel power, and types of conflict. 7.Manufacturers can influence conflicts by means of "product responsibility identification", "service & maintenance", and "legal position issues".

In such a case, This research based on TOYOTA Taiwan Motor Corporation. The main purpose was for Asia University’s student to understand the difference of preference, purchase intention and the relations between purchase intention and promotional activities of TOYOTA Taiwan. The main purpose was to understand the difference of preference, purchase intention and the relations between purchase intention and promotional activities of TOYOTA Taiwan. According the associated literature, we designed a survey which was called “The influence of TOYOTA Taiwan promotional activities and consumer purchase intention” .To analyze the survey, We organized three main point: (1) There is some obvious difference from TOYOTA Taiwan promotional activities and purchase intention with individual consumer and depend on their background.(2) It’s positive correlation that TOYOTA Taiwan promotional with the purchase intention of TOYOTA Taiwan promotional activities to consumer.

In addition, this research also develops an intelligent automobile service management system platform connecting with cloud computing network. As more automobile service companies use this system, the more information will be creased and saved in knowledge database of intelligent automobile service management system platform. For this reason, companies would be able to avoid knowledge lose when staffs and technical workers retire or leave jobs in the companies. If applications of knowledge in various field in automobile industry such as technical data, performance management, marketing, research and developing and purchasing, can be saved into an intelligent automobile service management system platform, such system can solve enormous problems in service station owner, staffs and car owners.

In the field of insurance, risk classification has always been a problem. In April 2009, Taiwan has implemented the rate liberalization before; the automobile insurance market has always been under the supervision for a unified rate. After the rate liberalization, the products of the insurance company are more diversification, and active in develop the limit of car damaged insurance, the limit of driver and other policy items, hoping to achieve discount benefits to increase automobile insurance coverage, But the effect is not good. When the claims are getting higher and higher, the insurance premium is one of the causes for consumers to consider. In addition to analysis of UBI benefits, a more detailed description of the can help consumers and insurance industry to better understood the implementation of UBI and the implementation of foreign. This study was analyzed and accessed by literature, advice base on different backgrounds, understand the market implementation, and explore the implementation of UBI. To balance between practice and the theory, and make the car insurance market much better. The results found the UBI characteristics can be used in the car team management、monitor vehicle status, reduce the vehicle loss rate of theft, equipment costs can be paid on long-term policies, make premium more accurate, increase customer loyalty.

Many automobile industries of leading countries such as America, German, France, Sweden and so on have once undergone the tough period of industrial reconstruction. British automobile manufacturers were being in difficult situation as well but they can’t deal with the problems effectively to make them become deteriorated and even collapsed in the long run. The thesis is based on Michael Porter’s diamond system as a theoretical structure to analyze the development of British automobile industry. The diamond system includes six elements: every of them provides the basis to account for the changes and developments of automobile industry. And every element can’t exist by itself; actually, they connect with each other and form a close network. From the analysis, we can easily figure out that from World War II to early 1970s, the development of British automobile industry was stable. For a long time, however, the poor qualities of British automobiles, the lack of models, the poor technologies and inharmonious industrial relations have been criticized by foreign manufacturers and customers. But British automobile manufacturers didn’t focus on the problems. When they met with the oil crisis, the rise of Japanese automobile manufacturers and the fall of tariff barriers, they can’t respond to the crises immediately and tackle the problems effectively. It’s obvious that British automobile industry was in lack of competition. Only by nationalization can’t they survive. But Mrs. Thatcher didn’t want to keep funding the BL and decided to privatize BL in the early 1980s. Compared with other manufacturers, BL was an uncompetitive company; therefore, it was controlled by the foreign manufacturers in the long run. Britain doesn’t have her own automobile industry any more.

The purpose of this proposal is to investigate the influence of the materials of radiators on heat translation. A radiator is one style of heat exchangers, which can be affected by the shapes, the intervals, and the materials of fins. This study adopts the simplest methods to compare the heat translating efficiency of two radiators made of different materials. Sorted by the materials of fins, the experimental radiators can be classified into copper radiators and aluminum radiators. To compare these two materials, pure water, with no ethylene glycol (also known as radiator rust inhibitor), is used as the coolant. Mitsubishi Automobile 1.2 L on the shelf engine is used to eliminate the interference of air convection. The original fans, which are controlled by ECU and negative temperature coefficient coolant temperature sensor, are changed into manual paced electric fans to reduce variables. In conclusion, by diverse experimental methods, this research evaluates the translating efficiency of different radiators using the same equipment.

Generally Speaking, as a car is driven on rough roads or at a high speed, it would increase vehicle noise and mask the audio signals. In order to improve the sound quality for human hearing under dynamic conditions, this research establishes a real-time autorange volume control system which could detect the S/N ratio of the environment and compare with the threshold of S/N ratio defined by experiment then compensate for the output magnitude of the music signal. The control algorithm compiled by LabVIEW 7.1 programming language depends on the basis of acoustics, DSP and real-time control technique. This research also collects and analyzes the major vehicle noises such as Road Noise, Engine Noise and Wind Noise and adopts the mp3 music files as the signal source. The data acquisition parameters depend on the characteristics of the noise source and signal source. So the system only processes the noise and signal sources fewer than 3 kHz. The system is set up in lab and use two B&K 4188 microphones as the sensors. The relations of the two sensors are defined by their transfer function. The fact shows that the autorange volume control system could correct the output music signal immediately and keeps the great sound quality. This research could confirm the accuracy of the control algorithm and the feasibility of the concept.

When there is not the same support from the government in the future, whether the new car market gets back to the low sales as the past again. Hence this research is for studying the domestic automobile industry’s current market situation, and analyzes the competition and cooperation of every auto enterprise. This research is analyzed with the value network of the domestic automobile distributor's system, taking case company T Company as the core, studying the relationship between the related industries, and understand that T Company’s position in the value network, competition, cooperation and compete to shut the relation, make a more complicated triad analysis, through the individual cases of competition and cooperation to understand the relationship between T company and other related enterprises. This research adopts the law of case study, pass collection of industry's information, case company information, telephone interview, develop idea structure, select the case manufacturer to analyze, through data processing and circumstances analysis, and sum up the relationship between competition and cooperation, also through the three parties analyze in order to conclude the result of this research. 1/The relation in the competition and cooperation, based on vertical axial industries There is only one supplier and customer of this vertical axial of value network of research, the customer is not any specified one from numerous entrants, it is comparatively simple in the relation of shutting that compete in this research, furthermore, the customer is from the conditions of big, small, little, it shows if T company is trying to improve their competiveness in the value network, they have to be more aggressive in attitude, that will create a new state and continue the business of T company. 2/The relation in the competition and cooperation, based on a horizontal axial. Under the analysis of this research case company's value network, it is more than vertical axial too that classify number of times taking place in the triad condition, shut the way in the vertical competing with the horizontal relation, the relation of competition and cooperation are concentrated on the fourth quadrant - horizontal competition / horizontal cooperation jointly, the shutting type attitude is that competitor's competition / the complementary one cooperates to compete. The complementary one will turn into a competitor of T Company, due to the same brand distributors are all have the same supplier, but the uncertain customers will check the prices with different distributors, collect more information in order to improve their ability for negotiation on prices. During the competition proceeding from different distributors, the same brand distributors in different areas will have an agreement in order to have profit balanced through some cooperation. When T Company and other brand distributor are competing on prices for the same quality product and same market, T Company and their suppliers must cooperate perfectly with each other in order to compete with the distributors of other brand at the same area. In analyzing on an individual case, the multi complementary ones in the value network are playing the roles as helping T company to achieve goals and increase the sales quantity, via support of resources or the technology, in order to offer the customers a better deal and more discount. So the inter-depend with the complementary ones on the same product market are for creating the mutual profits.

The around view monitor (AVM), which is employed in advanced driver assistance systems, is being increasingly used in the automotive industry. An AVM improves automobile safety by enabling drivers to view more of their environment and eliminating their blind spots. Commercially available AVMs have a video graphics array resolution of 300,000 pixels, which will be upgraded to the megapixel level in response to consumer demand. However, such resolution improvement will entail the input of considerable image data into the electronic control unit (ECU) module of the AVM, increasing the ECU module operating temperature accordingly. This study analyzed the cooling capacity of an existing ECU module used in AVMs and employed the Taguchi method, Analysis of variance, and ANSYS to design an ECU module with higher cooling efficiency. The proposed ECU module can be utilized in AVMs with megapixel resolution.

After more than 50 years of development, China’s automobile industry has become an important industry for the national economy. As the level of economic development continues to increase and cars have begun to enter the family, China has become the fastest growing market in the world. Since 2009, the number of cars produced has been ranked first in the world for 8 years. It can be seen that China’s automobile industry has a great influence in global market. This study analyzes the difference in the seven financial ratio growth rates between SAIC and Geely during the period from 2009 to 2016. The data is annual information. After a rigorous empirical process, the following conclusions were obtained: In addition to the operating income growth rate and total asset growth rate, Geely is superior to SAIC in terms of its remaining projects. SAIC is better than Geely. Overall, SAIC's operating performance is better than Geely. Although there are no significant differences in the financial growth ratio between SAIC and Geely on the results of the paired sample t-test, the growth rate of Geely's seven financial ratios grows faster after 2015 and should be the rise of independent brands.

New industries and new management theories constantly appear in knowledge economic times, so the intellectual capital is the primary efficient instrument of the business competition and profitability, and its importance is widely discussing. However, empirical researches in intellectual capital are always focused on high tech industries, seldom refer to the influence on traditional industries. The net domestic product in automobile industry places to the fifth in 2002. By the manufacturers’ effort, the manufacturing level in Taiwan automobile industry ap-proaches the advanced countries’. In recent years, the manufacturers invest a lot of money in research and development, promote new product matching with consumers’ demand, and devote to promoting the customer service degree of satisfaction. Thus, the domestically produced automobiles have generally obtained the consumers’ affirmation, and the market share even achieved 86.54% in 2002. Therefore, this study makes a complete discussion in intellectual capital of auto-mobile industry, hoping to construct a model by the secondary data in market observa-tion post system through the empirical researches in the past and operating trend in the future. Through the model of intellectual capital, the results indicate the two findings are as follow: First, intellectual capital in automobile industry can be classified as four dimen-sions: customer capital, process capital, renewal and development capital, and human focus capital, including 15 indicators. Second, we can use the 15 indicators to predict the companies’ whole intellectual capital.

The research of automobile industry about Mainland China market in the past, focused on more parts of the factory; however, most of time, it is the distribution that a key factor whether whole brand can be succeeded. This research can be divided into two key topics. First, the present situation of automobile Mainland China market is described. Second, in order to understand how overall and individual factors influence distributor's performance, this research sums up the performance influence factor in previous researches, and then did field studies to test the relationships between those factors and distributor's performances. The achievement of field study reveals that, individual factors: the profit ability of exclusive authorized dealers is stronger that of selective dealers, the negotiation strength to manufacturing company will influence the profit, the ownership (joint-venture type attitude) of the actual power of management will influence short-term profit, sales volume and occupation rate of market. In the overall environmental factor, there is characteristic of planned economy in the Communist Party of China's policy of the continent, government decree; it even exceeds the individual factor to influence power of the performance. Comprehensive research results, propose that the car factory should adopt the way in which the large stretch of district divide to sell in every area under the care of single distributor, so as to ensure that every distributor is in the automobile selling market of the meager profit. Joint-venture type study suggests, to maintain 100% of the individual proprietorship, Chinese director being only the title without the real power. By doing so, must assess the Chinese name director sincerity scrupulously in investment by this way.

Facing the intensely competitive environment and the getting higher turnover rate of the sales representatives, KaoDu Motor, Ltd. is exploring the solutions. Due to the prosperous growth of e-commerce, the issue of how to fully take the advantages of the Internet has become very critical to KaoDu Motor Ltd. This purpose of this research is to explore what e-commerce strategies and applications that KaoDu should develop in order to get more competitive advantages by taking the advantages of the Internet. After reviewing the automobile industrial environment, the SWOT analysis was done for KaoDu. Through SWOT analysis, the weakness, strength, opportunities and threats that KaoDu has were summarized. Giving KaoDu’s goals, seven e-commerce strategies were developed based on the results of SWOT analysis. For each strategy, many e-commerce applications have been identified. In addition, in order to let the e-commerce strategies and applications be realized successfully, several other strategies, such as alliance, business process reengineering and on-job training, have been identified too. So far, part of the strategies and applications has been implemented and there are several positive results reported.

One of the biggest hurdles to the development of an effective driver state monitor is the that there is no real-time eye-gaze detection. This is primarily due to the fact that such systems require calibration. In this thesis the various aspects that comprise an eye gaze tracker are investigated. From that we developed an eye gaze tracker for automobiles that does not require calibration. We used a monocular camera system with IR light sources placed in each of the three mirrors. The camera system created the bright-pupil effect for robust pupil detection and tracking. We developed an SVM based algorithm for initial eye candidate detection; after that the eyes were tracked using a hybrid Kalman/Mean-shift algorithm. From the tracked pupils, various features such as the location of the glints (reflections in the pupil from the IR light sources) were extracted. This information is then fed into a Generalized Regression Neural Network (GRNN). The GRNN then maps this information into one of thirteen gaze regions in the vehicle.

In the past, relying on the teaching mode of coaches, this study hopes to understand the learning needs of drivers and the management strategies of drivers, and review the current driving training methods to construct an innovative and in line with the times. In this study, based on the theory of demand hierarchy as the theoretical basis, this paper explores the familiarity and common mistakes of the driving class in the driving training class. Recently, the dramatic raise of the oil price and economic recession result in the downturn of the automobile market. Under the situation of earning a little profit, those automobile manufacturers shift their target to the after-sales markets, which still have big demand. With the effort made at after-sales side makes the sales volume stable and brings the considerable turnover to the manufacturers. However, manufacturers often find that there are conflicts existing between strategies when planning the service activities. This research analyzes the customers’ maintained data. Aiming at the known factors that effect the consumers'' maintenance preference, we attempt to discriminate the importance and effect level of these factors in order to provide the management reference information for planning the service activities in the future. We define four evaluation indices by using K-mean clustering to group the 4 known factors and industry standard. Further, we divide the maintenance data into six groups according to the car series and analyze with one of decision tree technique CART. The significant factors are determined and their importance and effects are discriminated. The result of research shows: (1) The importance level of 4 factors for consumers'' maintenance preference is that the first most important factor is frequency, the second is age, the third is oil price and the forth is the area. (2) The result of this research for six kinds of consumer’s maintenance feature can be a reference for further service activities planning.

The Green factory mark system validated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs will be officially launched in 2012. The assessment of green plants covers not only in the prohibition of harmful substances during the manufacturing process, reduction of unnecessary waste and promotion of environmental protection policies, but also extends to the whole supply chain from raw materials, parts suppliers to proceed with the environmental protection policies, and ultimately helps to achieve the objective of the green supply chain. However, there are no related laws to require part suppliers to adhere to green production plant objective currently in car industry. This study focuses on how customers affect and influence suppliers’ environmental commitment based on its own environmental strategies and environmental performance requirements. The study is mainly from the constructs of customer’s environmental strategy and customer’s environmental performance requirements which includes moderators of contract, evaluation, and encouragement to investgae the relationship with suppliers environmental commitment. The study takes 246 suppliers of Honda Taiwan Motor Co., Ltd as sampling and utilizes Likert five-level scaling method from 1 to 5, from 「Strongly disagree」、「Disagree」、「Neither agree nor disagree」、「Agree」、「Strongly agree」to confirm hypothesises of the study. According to the results of this study, the predictive factors for improving suppliers’s environmental commitment are customer environmental performance requirements; customer environmental strategy and contract in order. The statistical results are significant. In other words, suppliers will raise its environmental commitment according to its major customers’ environmental performance requirements and environmental strategies. Suppliers also agree that contract restrictions signed with major customers would enhance and raise its environmental commitment. The study takes Honda Taiwan Motor Co., Ltd. as an example trying to see how to raise suppliers’ environmental commitment without any laws reinforcement and expects to set the standard for other companies in Taiwan.

Punching metals in the process of forming is a number of factors affect the quality control process, and forming part of the sheet metal parts caused by the residual stress, the stress will be continued with the process and product changes constantly changing appearance. This study is the using of sheet metal forming analysis software AutoForm simulation step forming sheet metal parts, with Taguchi Methods stamping parameters experiment parameters are: material length and width dimensions (A), punch and female die gap (B), punch head speed (C), the friction coefficient (D), design parameters of the three-level orthogonal table L9 operation to AutoForm simulation experiment analysis software. It was taken in the sheet metal parts 12 fixed positions setting measurement nodes, as well as two of the most thick, the thinnest at total of 14 points for thickness measurement and deformation trend, thickness than the thickness of the trend. Through Taguchi method S / N ratio factor reaction table classify the parameters will affect the order of D, C, B, A and optimization processes were A1B3C1D3, use this parameter to display when sheet metal parts molding thickness range is closer to analog confirmation tests , from the original manufacturing process thickness range of 1.14 to 1.54 mm (0.40 mm), into the process of optimizing the thickness range of 1.26 to 1.56 mm (0.30 mm), the thickness range of up to 25% improved, so that the thickness becomes more uniform and reduces wrinkles chance of rupture, to process optimization and improve the quality of results.

BACKGROUND A Daimler AG é uma empresa alemã que exerce a sua atividade na indústria automóvel, sendo a maior fabricante de camiões e a décima maior em automóveis de passageiros. OBJECTIVE O objetivo deste trabalho é avaliar o valor das ações da Daimler AG e calcular o valor da empresa. A escolha desta empresa deve-se ao elevado interesse pela indústria automóvel. METHOD / RESULTS De acordo com o método de avaliação Discounted Cash Flow, o preço-alvo na data de referência foi de 42,70€, com um potencial de subida de 2,15%. De forma a dar suporte à avaliação, o método de avaliação comparável através dos múltiplos representou um cenário mais pessimista com uma potencial descida. CONCLUSIONS A indústria automóvel apresenta riscos e um elevado nível de incerteza no mercado, pelo que existe uma necessidade constante de diversificação e adaptação da estratégia da empresa ao contexto atual de inovação.
BACKGROUND Daimler AG is a German company active in the automotive industry, being the largest manufacturer of trucks and the tenth largest in passenger cars. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the value of Daimler AG's shares and calculate the company's value. The choice of this company is due to the high interest in the automotive industry. METHOD / RESULTS According to the Discounted Cash Flow valuation method, the target price on the reference date was € 42.70, with an increase potential of 2.15%. In order to support the assessment, the comparable assessment method across two of the multiples represented a more pessimistic scenario with a potential decline. CONCLUSIONS The automotive industry presents risks and a high level of uncertainty in the market, so there is a constant need to diversify and adapt the company's strategy to the current context of innovation.

Sales promotion has been playing an important role in stimulating sales of a product. In contrast to advertising which intends to gradually shape consumer attitude, the objectives of sales promotion are (1) to stimulate trial or quicker or greater purchase and (2) to differentiate a brand from other competitors in a short time. Most of past research on sales promotion focuses its effects on retail store sales or on consumer purchase behavior, but rarely discusses the critical timing issues. Because of the execution of this strategy usually at a specific time point and during a specific time period, it is important for firms to consider when to promote and how long to promote, which are designed to cope with the environment pressure and to harmonize with the effects of a myriad of sales promotion tools. In this study, we focus the sales promotion timing decision of durable goods. Durable goods have three characteristics to consumers, high expenditure, long usage life, and lots of attractive accessories. Therefore, the feasible sales promotion tools comprise preferential payment plan, postpurchase service, and accessories at a premium. Each tool means a particular advantage to consumers and probably has an optimal executing timing and time interval. This research is based on the data coded from the reports about automotive sales and sales promotion activities issued by U-CAR, which is the most popular automotive website in Taiwan. Automobiles are subject to seasonal consumer demand induced by the timing of annual model changes. Therefore, we want to discuss in which season, such as peak season and low season, different months, and early or late execution stage in promotion period, the sales promotion tools can give rise more automotive sales. We adopt the method of regression model to examine the moderator effects of seasonal variables on the relationship between the automotive sales and sales promotion tools such as price discount, preferential maintenance service, trade fair and free or lucky draw accessories. Our result shows that price discount has positive effects in the peak-season, the introduction months, the year-end months, and early stage of promotion period. Preferential maintenance service has positive effects in year-end months and late stage of promotion period. Trade fair has positive effects in normal season, the year-end months, and late stage of promotion period. Free accessory has positive effects in late stage of promotion period. Lucky draw accessory has positive effects in introduction months. And none of the tools have significant effects on sales in low season. This research offers a strategic guideline for automotive firms to make timing decisions of sales promotion strategy.

Abstract Businesses currently face with rigorous challenges in search of operational performance in the intense competitive environments. The present paper samples the suppliers of one central satellite system of the automobile industry in Taiwan to examine the intricate relation of supply chain integration, JIT production and JIT purchase, and the levels of their influences on the logistics performance. The present paper used a conceptual research framework, followed by implementation of a structured questionnaire. For a factor analysis, reliability check, descriptive analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, regression analysis and interviews with key members of the suppliers according to the objectives and the hypotheses of the study. The major findings were as follows: 1. Each paired dimension for supply chain integration, JIT purchase, JIT production and logistics performance were highly and significantly correlated to each other. 2. Supply chain integration has the positive influences to JIT purchase, JIT production and logistics performances. 3. JIT purchase has the positive influence both to JIT production and logistics performances. 4. Supply chain integration, JIT purchase and JIT production have the positive influences to logistics performances.

The number of motor vehicle is increasing year by year in Taiwan. The passenger car is now to the number of 5,960 thousand, which brought output value created from relevant businesses reached 379.8 billion year-round. Among the relevant businesses, market size of Automobile Repair Industry is the most attractive one. Its domestic market size is estimated up to 9.71 billion. As the changing of channel strategy and consumption pattern, business of auto repair is now scrambled by small private workshops, franchise chain stores, and large workshops belong to OEM‘s agents. To gain an in-depth understanding of car owner’s requests, researcher has interviewed including drivers, and the most representative franchise chain stores owners or CEO. The in-depth interviews with experts also convey the further explanation for the business feature of repair workshop in Taiwan. Researcher uses grounded theory to decode information, also applies four-box framework of White Space Strategy to explore business models – (1) customer value proposition (2) profit formula (3) key resources (4) key processes. The purpose of this study is to explore the running problems, competition challenges, and the needs of transformation of traditional repair workshop in Taiwan as it is facing the changing environment and progressing technology. Furthermore, in this study it uses the framework of franchise chain system and management of network technology to lower the risk of running business and create core competitiveness, in addition, to profile the future business model for sustainable development. This study is expected to be helpful for increasing the competitiveness of repair workshop in Taiwan and to be a reference for future study.

Traditionally, the country relies on her peoples’ payment for taxation, which is managed as financial tools such as taxes, regulation fees, benefiting fees, and special common levies, to implement the country’s policy tasks. According to J.Y. Interpretation No.593, the Automobile Fuel Use Fee is monetary obligation that the country requires specific people to pay other than normal taxes for purpose of public welfare. The Honorable Justices regarded the Automobile Fuel Use Fee as monetary obligation in public law other than taxes, but did not classify it as any specific financial tool. However, what is the difference between the Automobile Fuel Use Fee and tax? Does it actually belong to other financial tool--regulation fee, benefiting fee, or special common levies? How can it be distinguished from other tools? In addition, motor vehicle offices used to treat the content of the public announcement issued before the collecting period as an approved administrative act in the collection process of the Automobile Fuel Use Fee and send the payment notice to the people so that they could pay the fee by submitting the notice as a payment form for their conveniences. As a result, the payment notice became merely a notice with service nature. According to the Administrative Procedure Act, public announcement is a general act taken to unspecified people with general characteristics, of which scopes can be defined, but the fee-payers of the Automobile Fuel Use Fee are people who can be specifically ascertained. Serving of administrative act should be taken to the objectives’ notice as most important. This practice implemented by the motor vehicle offices have nevertheless infringed rights of automobile owners in knowing the content of the notice of administrative act and raising administrative remedies, although the procedure has contributed to save huge administrative costs and accelerate administrative efficiency. Practically, much contention has been caused by this. In this paper, I conducted a review and exploration, aiming at the collection procedure of the Automobile Fuel Use Fee, into the legal nature of the content of the Public Announcement of Collection and its payment notice. The finding showed that, among financial tools, the Automobile Fuel Use Fee should be a task of faultless public road policy, which should be regarded as an earmark budget and used for a specific purpose for maintenance, building, and safety management of roads, that is as special common levies which focus on the owners of automobiles. The Public Announcement of Collection should be categorized into faits juridiques with contents of indication and implications accompanying administrative guidance. In this case, the practice of the motor vehicle offices treating the Public Announcement of Collection as an administrative act has had the likelihood of violating the Principle of Proportional and the Principle of Clarity and Definiteness. Furthermore, the payment notice of the Automobile Fuel Use Fee, with identified characteristic with definition in Article 92, Clause 1 under the Administrative Procedure Act, sent by ordinary mail prior to the collecting period had a regulation content with embodiment and one-timed characters, that it was actually an approved administrative act. If owners of automobiles failed to pay the bill of payment notice by deadline of collecting period, motor vehicle offices would send reminder notices of the Automobile Fuel Use Fee by double-registered mails to the owners indicating new deadline. As the motor vehicles offices have reviewed the original content of the act according to the fact of the new license plates and renewed the decision on the entities, although the approved content was the same as the original, the reminder notices should be regarded as the second verdict, regardless of the original act being maintained or changed. Owners of automobiles could challenge the reminder notices by raising administrative remedy to protect their rights and interests.

This research focuses on the discussion of the primary missions of ARTC, according to its founding objective and the demands of the automotive industry, are as follows. First: to propose standards and execute regulations for vehicles and components, as committed to, by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications and other governmental authorities. Second: to assist with upgrading technology, developing key components, and training highly competent professionals in accordance with automotive industry development policy. Decades of development have allowed the Taiwan automotive industry to develop its manufacturing and marketing abilities to a higher level. ABSTRACT Today, the traffic problems are more and more important and nations try their best to develop suitable child restraint devices (CRDs). The anthropometric data of infant and related documents of infant automobile restraint are lacking. It will cause the bad design and result in serious hurts for infants. The research establishes anthropometric database of infant in the country and uses a computer simulation method to build simulation system of infant restraints for automobile. We base on the internal infant’s physiology characteristics and psychology ones, such as dynamic and static measurements, movement development, sense system and learn ability to found internal infant computer model. This system is the first ergonomics computer simulation system being directed against that the internal infant using infant automobile restraint in the country. The system framework can provide related researcher with reference and experiment and assists industry designer in designing the infant automobile restraints for internal infants. Vacuum sputtering is an important surface treatment technology for modern industry. Compared with traditional electroplating technology, it has advantages in maintenance, impact resistance, surface strength testing and so on. Other advantages of sputtering technology, including environmental friendliness and light weighting, can improve the quality of the product. In recent years, the cooperatives of this research have successfully developed multi-layer metal film sputtering technology on rims, creating a variety of colored surfaces, which has aroused the interest of consumers and gradually opened up the market and become an innovative product. Due to the different colors and styles of the wheel frame, it is necessary to manually replace the shielding jig and adjust the position and angle, which is a waste of human resources. Therefore, this study uses a robotic arm and image recognition technology to create a smart automated production line for manufacturers. The main purpose is not only to save manpower, but also to strengthen the competitive advantage of manufacturers. In this study, a set of intelligent automated production lines was established using image recognition, robotic arm control, fixture design, and LoRa communication. The line is accepting a small number of diverse production models. Through image recognition, the rim type, deflection angle and offset position can be obtained. Then take the appropriate jig with the robot arm and place it on the wheel frame. The purpose of the fixture is to create a metallic shield effect when entering the sputtering chamber. Since different types of rims may have different numbers, the fixture must not only be sufficiently prepared, but also reusable. To this end, the production line is equipped with different feeding lines, so that the fixture can be continuously replenished. With this production line, it is possible to observe the processing of the fixture and the flow of data as the basis for the actual production of the factory.

To global automakers, steel sheets’ higher ability to endure crash is needed to increase the quality and security of the automobiles. Meanwhile, to respond to the policy of diminishing CO2 emission and to reduce gasoline consumption by lightening the body of cars, applying high strength steel sheets to panel beating has become a trend. The lightest auto body research focuses on the new materials, malleability, and joining skills. Because there are still many challenges in spot quality and skills that should be conquered, spot producing process is the joining skill which is the most widely used. The domestic automakers have already applied the high strength steel sheets panel beating to developing new car styles and so as this case company. Different from common auto steel sheets, the spot welding conditions of the high strength steel sheets include electricity, power-on time, tip pressing, tip diameter and etc. To secure the quality of the high strength steel sheets’ spot welding, it’s important to know the interaction between the high strength steel sheets and spot welding. To deeply study the impact of the traits of high strength steel sheets and the changes of welding conditions on the quality and strength of spot, it’s important to study the related skills of welding which is to decrease the failed spot and increase the qualification rate by improving the quality management and ultrasonic wave detection. This research uses individual research methods of field and field empirical and adopts Joule’s law according to the Spot Welding principle. It also analyzes the resistance of the panel beating of high strength steel sheets, the changes of the tip diameter, and the changes of tip pressing. In addition, this research uses the test steel, the ultrasonic wave detection, and quality management to analyze the spot’s quality of high strength steel sheets in order to find out the most suitable welding conditions of high strength steel sheets. This research is going to test with the real auto. First, count the amount of the combination of the panel beating, and produce different test steels of high strength steel sheets and ordinary steel sheets. There comes out 242 kinds of combination of the panel beating. Then, adopt the most appropriate welding conditions of the high strength steel sheets and conduct spot welding. Finally, detect the panel beating under ultrasonic wave detection. According to the result of the research, this case company can work out the best regulations of welding conditions and quality management for high strength steel sheets, and apply them to our automobiles.
