Ha, Hai Nam. "Automatic lighting design." Thesis, University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/10443/103.

Full text
Abstract:
A significant problem in the automatic design of 3D graphics is the configuration of the lighting for a scene. The number of lights included, and the properties of these lights, has an enormous impact on what a viewer can judge about the content (the objects), properties (the geometric characteristics and spatial relations of the objects) and other aesthetic qualities of a scene. The traditional approach to lighting design for image synthesis is based on manual design methods, whereby users interactively specify values of lighting parameters, render the scene, and modify the lighting parameters until the desired visual properties of the scene are achieved. Non-expert users encounter a number of difficulties in selecting the appropriate lighting parameters, as the process requires both a subtle technical and aesthetic understanding of lighting in computer graphics. In this thesis, perceptual aspects such as contrast and the non-linear characteristics of our perceptual response to colour are combined with practical studio lighting techniques and a novel treatment of shadows, to yield an extension to existing perceptual approaches to lighting design. This so-called ideal lighting approach optimises the lighting configuration for a scene with respect to a set of absolute perceptual metrics. An intuitive approach to lighting design, lighting-by-example, is also proposed and extensively explored in forms that exploit both the perception-based lighting framework and a new wavelet formulation. User studies are conducted both to configure the perception-based lighting objective function and to evaluate the performance of the proposed lighting design approaches. Finally, we develop an interactive interface for the lighting design process that incorporates both the ideal lighting and lighting-by-example approaches.

Sapargaliyev, Yerbol. "Automatic design of analogue circuits." Thesis, Brunel University, 2011. http://bura.brunel.ac.uk/handle/2438/6323.

Full text
Abstract:
Evolvable Hardware (EHW) is a promising area in electronics today. Evolutionary Algorithms (EA), together with a circuit simulation tool or real hardware, automatically designs a circuit for a given problem. The circuits evolved may have unconventional designs and be less dependent on the personal knowledge of a designer. Nowadays, EA are represented by Genetic Algorithms (GA), Genetic Programming (GP) and Evolutionary Strategy (ES). While GA is definitely the most popular tool, GP has rapidly developed in recent years and is notable by its outstanding results. However, to date the use of ES for analogue circuit synthesis has been limited to a few applications. This work is devoted to exploring the potential of ES to create novel analogue designs. The narrative of the thesis starts with a framework of an ES-based system generating simple circuits, such as low pass filters. Then it continues with a step-by-step progression to increasingly sophisticated designs that require additional strength from the system. Finally, it describes the modernization of the system using novel techniques that enable the synthesis of complex multi-pin circuits that are newly evolved. It has been discovered that ES has strong power to synthesize analogue circuits. The circuits evolved in the first part of the thesis exceed similar results made previously using other techniques in a component economy, in the better functioning of the evolved circuits and in the computing power spent to reach the results. The target circuits for evolution in the second half are chosen by the author to challenge the capability of the developed system. By functioning, they do not belong to the conventional analogue domain but to applications that are usually adopted by digital circuits. To solve the design tasks, the system has been gradually developed to support the ability of evolving increasingly complex circuits. As a final result, a state-of-the-art ES-based system has been developed that possesses a novel mutation paradigm, with an ability to create, store and reuse substructures, to adapt the mutation, selection parameters and population size, utilize automatic incremental evolution and use the power of parallel computing. It has been discovered that with the ability to synthesis the most up-to-date multi-pin complex analogue circuits that have ever been automatically synthesized before, the system is capable of synthesizing circuits that are problematic for conventional design with application domains that lay beyond the conventional application domain for analogue circuits.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This thesis presents methods and results for optimizing subword detectors in continuous speech. Speech detectors are useful within areas like detection-based ASR, pronunciation training, phonetic analysis, word spotting, etc. Firstly, we propose a structure suitable for subword detection. This structure is based on the standard HMM framework, but in each detector the MFCC feature extractor and the models are trained for the specific detection problem. Our experiments in the TIMIT database validate the effectiveness of this structure for detection of phones and articulatory features. Secondly, two discriminative training techniques are proposed for detector training. The first one is a modification of Minimum Classification Error training. The second one, Minimum Detection Error training, is the adaptation of Minimum Phone Error to the detection problem. Both methods are used to train HMMs and filterbanks in the detectors, isolated or jointly. MDE has the advantage that any detection performance criterion can be optimized directly. F-score and class accuracy optimization experiments show that MDE training is superior to the MCE-based method. The optimized filterbanks reflect some acoustical properties of the detection classes. Moreover, some changes are consistent over classes with similar acoustical properties. In addition, MDE-training of filterbanks results in filters significatively different than in the standard filterbank. In fact, some filters extract information from different critical bands. Finally, we propose a detection-based automatic speech recognition system. Detectors are built with the proposed HMM-based detection structure and trained discriminatively. The linguistic merger is based on an MLP/Viterbi decoder.

Abstract:
With the development of the society, people are more willing to focus on their leisure activities. A growing number of new equipment are created nowadays. For example, automatic mahjong machine in China. Inspired by the automatic mahjong machine, we propose to add some devices on the billiard table to achieve sorting balls automatically. It includes recognition system, ball-separating system, and sorting system. We use Autodesk Inventor 2012 to model the billiards table. Some complex calculations and nonlinear analysis are completed by Matlab. Through our method, we can achieve the purpose of sorting balls automatically.

Abstract:
Talking to a computer is hard. Large vocabulary automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems are difficult to use and yet they are used by many people in their daily work. This thesis addresses the question: How is ASR used and made usable and useful in the workplace now? To answer these questions I went into two workplaces where ASR is currently used and one where ASR could be used in the future. This field work was done with designing in mind. ASR dictation systems are currently used in the Australian Public Service (APS) by people who suffer chronic workplace overuse injuries and in the Hansard department of Parliament House (Hansard) by un-injured people. Analysing the experiences of the users in the APS and at Hansard showed that using an ASR system in the workplace follows a broad trajectory that ends in the continued effort to maintain its usefulness. The usefulness of the ASR systems is performed into existence by the users with varying degrees of success. For both the APS and Hansard users, they use ASR to allow work to be performed; ASR acts to bridge the gap between otherwise incompatible ways of working. This thesis also asks: How could ASR be used and made usable and useful in workplaces in the future? To answer this question, I observed the work of communicating sentences at the ACT Magistrates Court. Communicating sentences is a process that is distributed in space and time throughout the Court and embodied in a set of documents that have a co-ordinating role. A design for an ASR system that supports the process of communicating sentences while respecting existing work process is described. Moving from field work to design is problematic. This thesis performs the process of moving from field work to design, as described above, and reflects the use of various analytic methods used to distill insights from field work data. The contributions of this thesis are: The pragmatic use of existing social research methods and their antecedents as a corpus of analyses to inspire new designs; vi a demonstration of the use of Actor-Network Theory in design both as critique and as part of a design process; empirical field-work evidence of how large vocabulary ASR is used in the workplace; a design showing how ASR could be introduced to the rich, complicated, environment of the ACT Magistrates Court; and, a performance of the process of moving from field work to design.

Blewitt, Alex. "HEDGEHOG : automatic verification of design patterns in Java." Thesis, University of Edinburgh, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/1842/1459.

Full text
Abstract:
Design patterns are widely used by designers and developers for building complex systems in object-oriented programming languages such as Java. However, systems evolve over time, increasing the chance that the pattern in its original form will be broken. To verify that a design pattern has not been broken involves specifying the original intent of the design pattern. Whilst informal descriptions of patterns exist, no formal specifications are available due to differences in implementations between programming languages. This thesis shows that many patterns (implemented in Java) can be verified automatically. Patterns are defined in terms of variants, mini-patterns, and artefacts in a pattern description language called SPINE. These specifications are then processed by HEDGEHOG, an automated proof tool that attempts to prove that Java source code meets these specifications.

Most of the commercial computer-aided garment design software provides the functions of two-dimensional pattern design, modification and scaling on simply 2D pattern design. The software only can be operated with experienced designers. With many times of try-and-error, designers just can develop new products. In this research, we use computer to design three-dimensional garments to reach the purpose of automation. We unfold designed garments into plane with curved surface flattening method. Joining the knowledge and experience of professional garments designers provides various types of constrain conditions for patterns and aligns lattices to produce flattening patterns automatically. In order to reduce the gaps between lattices, we develop a local lattice alignment method that can gather the gaps together into one large gap. This method is just like darts and pleats in traditional pattern making. In this research, we collect the pattern making experts’ experiences to fix the formula and .the procedure of WaistFittingDarts and to decide which constrain condition to be used, where darts produced and how long they will take. We also develop a single lattice principal alignment method to produce shoulder darts, ArmscyeDarts and BustFittingDarts. With different position of darts, we can reduce the divergence between patterns and original designed surfaces. It can also make garments more close to bodies and show elegant curves when wearing them. Furthermore, we analyze various factors that may influence the results of flattening patterns. Finally, this research provides file formats that can be outputted to two-dimensional pattern making software to edit details.

Abstract:
An approach for recovering design patterns from source code is presented. The approach addresses software comprehension issue in reverse engineering domain, by providing a design pattern based representation of the system to facilitate software understanding. Design patterns are formalized by a simplified version of the LePUS language, which eliminates some higher-order concepts to reduce the complexity and at the same time, incorporates some extensions on entity and relation. Source code is semantically parsed and is further interpreted by a language analysis framework. Entities and relations are extracted and are used to generate a algorithm is adopted to match the design pattern specifications with the program model to identify design patterns implemented in the source code. The approach has been implemented and can be used to identify several design patterns listed in GoF book. Three initial experiments are conducted on some open source software to demonstrate its suitability for recovering the specified design patterns. The results are discussed in terms of the performance and the precision of pattern recovery

In this study, we take the advantage of precision manufacturing techniques combined with biotechnology to construct automated biochemistry platform. In this issue, it is popular in semi-automated platform in the world. In Taiwan, Many organizations have used semi-automated platforms for scientific researches. Amount of errors which were difficult to be corrected while the platform is working and the researchers still need to monitor the platform by themselves nowadays. In order to save the monitoring time of the researchers, we design a full automated biochemistry platform which contains three movable apparatus and two fixed ones, including Change lifts of apparatus, Conversion platform of liquid handling, Conveyer system of microtiter plate, Storage rack of apparatus and working bench. Firstly, we build the components of the platform by using CAD software, then, the models are imported to the simulation software, Webots. Secondly, we set the physical mechanics of the power and the carrier systems and then optimize the best motion of pathways and find out the best physical parameters in our structure. We put the sensors in both ends of the sport pathways and the feedback systems will auto-adjust the minor movement. And we will also build the machine learning in the controlling system. The results show that the designed automated biochemistry platform can achieve high performance with easy operation and high flexibility by simulation. This study provides optimized parameters and apply them to the construction of platform to speeding the building time. This will also lower the cost of biochemical experiments. We hope the automated biochemical platform can help scientists and researchers to decrease repetitive works, speed up their work and have more time to think their projects.

An automatic transmission for automobiles is a device which used to transfer the power between an engine and wheels . Its primary function is keeping the speed of engine in ideal range . Currently, the design method of multi-speed parallel-connected automatic transmission by lever analogy diagram has been developed, and it is easy used and understand. But there is a problem, a part of the result of design cannot be assembled into an automatic transmission. On the other hand, mulit-speed parallel-connected automatic transmissions are hard to design , because there are too many combinations to filter by human. If a man filters many combinations by hands, he will take lots of time and get many errors finally . The purpose of this research is improve the design method of automatic transmissions , and built several graphic database in the computer program. First , fundamentals and gear-shifting operations of the parallel-connected automatic transmission are illustrated to establish the design requirements, and the theory of the analysis of speed ratios for epicyclic-type automatic transmission is derived based on the concept of lever analogy.Next, the design method of multi-speed parallel-connected automatic transmission need improved by a new method. By using the improved method design 10-speed parallel-connected automatic transmission, we find 27 feasible ten-speed automatic transmissions from the 3003 possible combinations. At last, developing a computer program is used for the analysis and synthesis of parallel-connected epicyclic automatic transmissions of automobiles. The program contains graphic database about six-speed、eight-speed and ten-speed automatic transmission. This research proposed a method of design is effectiveness and integrity.

El, Gebaly Kareem. "Robustness in Automatic Physical Database Design." Thesis, 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/10012/3163.

Full text
Abstract:
Automatic physical database design tools rely on ``what-if'' interfaces to the query optimizer to estimate the execution time of the training query workload under different candidate physical designs. The tools use these what-if interfaces to recommend physical designs that minimize the estimated execution time of the input training workload. Minimizing estimated execution time alone can lead to designs that are not robust to query optimizer errors and workload changes. In particular, if the optimizer makes errors in estimating the execution time of the workload queries, then the recommended physical design may actually degrade the performance of these queries. In this sense, the physical design is risky. Furthermore, if the production queries are slightly different from the training queries, the recommended physical design may not benefit them at all. In this sense, the physical design is not general. We define Risk and Generality as two new measures aimed at evaluating the robustness of a proposed physical database design, and we show how to extend the objective function being optimized by a generic physical design tool to take these measures into account. We have implemented a physical design advisor in PostqreSQL, and we use it to experimentally demonstrate the usefulness of our approach. We show that our two new metrics result in physical designs that are more robust, which means that the user can implement them with a higher degree of confidence. This is particularly important as we move towards truly zero-administration database systems in which there is not the possibility for a DBA to vet the recommendations of the physical design tool before applying them.

Elghandour, Iman. "Automatic Physical Design for XML Databases." Thesis, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/10012/5630.

Full text
Abstract:
Database systems employ physical structures such as indexes and materialized views to improve query performance, potentially by orders of magnitude. It is therefore important for a database administrator to choose the appropriate configuration of these physical structures (i.e., the appropriate physical design) for a given database. Deciding on the physical design of a database is not an easy task, and a considerable amount of research exists on automatic physical design tools for relational databases. Recently, XML database systems are increasingly being used for managing highly structured XML data, and support for XML data is being added to commercial relational database systems. This raises the important question of how to choose the appropriate physical design (i.e., the appropriate set of physical structures) for an XML database. Relational automatic physical design tools are not adequate, so new research is needed in this area. In this thesis, we address the problem of automatic physical design for XML databases, which is the process of automatically selecting the best set of physical structures for a given database and a given query workload representing the client application's usage patterns of this data. We focus on recommending two types of physical structures: XML indexes and relational materialized views of XML data. For each of these structures, we study the recommendation process and present a design advisor that automatically recommends a configuration of physical structures given an XML database and a workload of XML queries. The recommendation process is divided into four main phases: (1) enumerating candidate physical structures, (2) generalizing candidate structures in order to generate more candidates that are useful to queries that are not seen in the given workload but similar to the workload queries, (3) estimating the benefit of various candidate structures, and (4) selecting the best set of candidate structures for the given database and workload. We present a design advisor for recommending XML indexes, one for recommending materialized views, and an integrated design advisor that recommends both indexes and materialized views. A key characteristic of our advisors is that they are tightly coupled with the query optimizer of the database system, and rely on the optimizer for enumerating and evaluating physical designs whenever possible. This characteristic makes our techniques suitable for any database system that complies with a set of minimum requirements listed within the thesis. We have implemented the index, materialized view, and integrated advisors in a prototype version of IBM DB2 V9, which supports both relational and XML data, and we experimentally demonstrate the effectiveness of their recommendations using this implementation.

In this study, we used the Microsoft Visual Studio(MVS) software to achieve Integrated FIR IP/Chip Design Automation(IFICDA) system, provide user a simple GUI interface to set the filter parameters, automatically synthesize the filters of optimize RTL Code, automatic synthesis of logic gates and thus the circuit simulations, and automated chip layout design in final. Validate examples of the system for several FIR digital filter chip design, and the chip performs well and the design process is smooth and simple. CSE (Canonic Signed the Digit) algorithm [9-10] and Booth algorithms have well effectively simplification in the simplification of FIR digital filter design. However, the study found the advantages of simplification group but also concerns of overhead in simplification. That affects the effectiveness of the simplification group. We proposed a new greedy algorithm in IFICDA, first the product term of the filter coefficients are represented as the Booth and CSD as well as Mix expression using a combination of both, and then were the free-paid iterative HCSE (Horizontal Common Subexpression Elimination) simplification and effective HCSE simplification. Respectively, that solves defects of the ungrouped free-paid group and award use of over-paid grouped simplification. The definition of the SG (Select Gain) values as a criterion of group selecting in free-paid iterative HCSE simplification algorithm, this standardization of selecting of simplification group will not miss the group of better efficiency in the process of group simplification. We also defined useful measurement criteria in effective HCSE simplification, and avoid the award use of over-paid simplification. Finally, we select optimal solution from these simplifications of three represents, to generate the IP of the FIR digital filter, to export the better performance of RTL Code. In this study, chip layout design included in IFICDA, proposed a chip design automation of CDA process based on Cell-based. CDA process generates an “ACD.scr” file automatically. In IFICDA, the ACD file uses “OitCellLibrary” of OIT Lab results of chip and application, launches Design Compiler to synthesis the logic gates using aforementioned RTL code, and then runs APR (Auto Place & Route) program by Encounter to produce the FIR digital filter chip layout design. The system is also combined with Hspice simulation, provides circuit simulation and verification of the Gate Level file. A few various types of FIR digital filter specifications of 49taps, 20-bit word (5 integer bits + 15 float bits), have been applied in the IFICDA system for automated design verification. The efficiency of the greedy algorithm can reach more than 68.0%, and the average generation time for each chip design is also in 10 minutes. These application practical confirm the greedy algorithm improving the FIR digital filter design performance in IFICDA, from efficient RTL Code generation to quickly run through the chip design process, greatly shorten the development time of FIR digital filter chip design.

ABSTRAT The current traditional drilling machines are usually unable to identify the different kind of material hardness during the drilling action. Therefore, the drills are easily abraded or damaged which may cause the increase of cost. Due to these problems and disadvantages of the drills, this paper designs an intelligent automatic drilling machine to improve the disadvantages of traditional fixed speed drilling machines. The purpose of this design is to avoid the collision of hard material and cause the drill collapse or breaking. On the contrary, when the material’s hardness is lower, such as plastic materials, it can become a high-speed execution. After the penetrating, it will retreat from the subject in low-speed rotation. While using high-speed in drilling, faster speed can avoid the high temperature of drilling the materials. The high temperature will lead to the problem of deformation of aperture or low accuracy. The system integrates a touch screen and a PLC controller to automatically select and judge the materials for the drilling machine. The experiment proves the design can actually improve the drilling efficiency and extend the usage of drills. Keywords: Drill pressd, rilling machine, touch screen, PLC controller

Because of the advantages of simple in construction, easily to assemble and has high capacity to compensate automatically for the unbalance of a rotor above the critical speed, the ball balancer is adopted in this research. However, the experimental results show that the ball balancer applied in the optical disk device has the problem of low consistence. To understand the reasons for low consistence, a mathematical model is first constructed for the purpose of theoretically investigating the dynamic behaviors of the foundation and balancing balls. A parametric study on the effects of eccentric race and rolling resistance are then performed. In addition, a test apparatus is constructed to verify the characteristics of the designed ball balancer. The experiment investigations show that the ball balancer is not effective against the unbalance as the wear of the raceway is severe. To cope with these problems, three new designs have been proposed in this research.

Abstract:
abstract: When software design teams attempt to collaborate on different design docu- ments they suffer from a serious collaboration problem. Designers collaborate either in person or remotely. In person collaboration is expensive but effective. Remote collaboration is inexpensive but inefficient. In, order to gain the most benefit from collaboration there needs to be remote collaboration that is not only cheap but also as efficient as physical collaboration. Remotely collaborating on software design relies on general tools such as Word, and Excel. These tools are then shared in an inefficient manner by using either email, cloud based file locking tools, or something like google docs. Because these tools either increase the number of design building blocks, or limit the number of available times in which one can work on a specific document, they drastically decrease productivity. This thesis outlines a new methodology to increase design productivity, accom- plished by providing design specific collaboration. Using version control systems, this methodology allows for effective project collaboration between remotely lo- cated design teams. The methodology of this paper encompasses role management, policy management, and design artifact management, including nonfunctional re- quirements. Version control can be used for different design products, improving communication and productivity amongst design teams. This thesis outlines this methodology and then outlines a proof of concept tool that embodies the core of these principles.

Environmental sensors are the important roles in the current Internet of things applications because environmental detection is closely related to human life. Gas sensors of the environmental sensor have great development potential and market opportunities. In this thesis, semiconductor gas sensors have been used to build up the low cost digital output gas sensor module. However, the accuracy of the semiconductor gas sensor was lower than other chemical gas sensors and need to be calibrated to improve the sensor quality. This work was focused on the implementation of automatic calibration system for digital type gas sensors, including the PC terminal software programming, control master / sensor slave hardware and firmware design. The Master Board received commands from Host PC and passed to Sensor Module or received responses from Sensor Module and passed to Host PC. Finally, the Host PC builds Log reports to system manager for reviewing the calibration results. The verification results of Host commands and digital sensor protocol have been discussed in Chapter 6 and shown very good agreement with all defined specifications.

Abstract Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) has been widely used in many professional fields such as medical image processing, bioassay, transportation engineering. Optical automation has been used in the inspection of the quality, product dimension and product classification. In the past, examination of the touch panel mainly relies on the human to carry out the measurement. The touch panel of the manual inspection is very labor intensive. The efficiency is limited and the accuracy is relatively lower. Therefore, in this thesis we use LabVIEW programming language to develop program and user interface. Template matching from imaging technology is used to matching and calculating the center point of the panel. Then, formulas of Cartesian coordinate systems are used to calculate offset angle to control machines with X、Y、Z、θ four-axis. Design and drive an automatic touch-panel inspection machine to run the automated optical inspection.

The method of using a remotely underwater vehicle (ROV) equipped with push corers to collect marine sediments has fundamental advantages, including precise localization of coring sites, visual recognition assistance from seafloor images, and high-density sampling within a small area. Currently, an ROV that aims to collect marine sediments is always equipped with robotic arms, which are manipulated by a pilot on the surface vessel to carry out sediment sampling through push corers. However, a well-trained pilot is required to assure sampling efficiency. Even to a well-trained pilot, it is still challenging to perform sediment sampling by manipulating robotic arms under bad weather. Moreover, it is essentially infeasible to install robotic arms with high degrees of freedom on small and medium-sized ROVs, causing that sediment sampling is typically excluded from the to-do list of those ROVs. Inspired by the automatic tool changer (ATC) and tool spindle of a computer numerical control (CNC) machine, this research develops a single actuator automatic push corer (APC) that can be integrated with an ROV as a payload device for sediment sampling purposes. The APC has four subsystems, including a vertical sampler, a rotating tube changer, a protective frame, and an electric power and communication medium. The vertical sampler consists of a transmission gear set, a rack, and a clamp. The rotating tube changer consists of a bevel gear pair, a Geneva mechanism, a shaft, and a turntable. The protective frame consists of a motor base and a supporting frame. The electric power and communication medium is a watertight cable that connects the APC actuator to the ROV junction box. Through the combination of the vertical sampler and rotating tube changer, the APC actuator can simultaneously drive these two subsystems to perform the sampling and tube changing sequentially. The APC actuator and components of the vertical sampler and rotating tube changer are all mounted on the motor base. The supporting frame protects the turntable and sampling tubes and allows the APC to firmly settle on the seafloor during sediment sampling. The watertight cable allows the operating voltage and control signals for the APC actuator to be transmitted to the APC from a mother ship through the ROV; it also allows the feedback signals of the APC actuator to be returned back to the mother ship through the ROV.

Abstract:
Analog layout design is a complicated and time-consuming process. It often takes couples of weeks for the layout designers to generate a qualied layout. The elec-trical properties of analog circuit are very sensitive to the layout details, and mis-match reduction becomes a very important issue in analog layout design.
In this thesis, we will present some practical placement techniques to reduce mismatch and improve routability. These techniques can be easily integrated into a complete analog placement and routing ow, which can produce in just a few min-utes a complete and high quality layout for analog circuits that passes the design rule check, layout-schematic check and with performance veried by simulations. The contents of this thesis will focus on the following two issues:
(1) Symmetry Placement: We consider symmetric placement of transistors, re-sistors and capacitors, which includes 1-D symmetry and 2-D symmetry (or called common centroid). Different symmetric placement congurations, derived accord-ing to the practical needs in analog design, are considered for the matching devices in the simulated annealing engine of the placer in order to generate a placement with high quality.
(2) Congestion-driven Placement: In analog design, wires are preferred not be routed over active devices, so we need to leave enough spaces properly for routing between the devices during the placement process. To achieve this, we explore congestion estimation and layout expansion during the placement step in order to produce a good and routable solution.
In order to verify the quality of the generated layouts in terms of mismatch, we will run Monte Carlo simulations on them with variations in process and mismatch. Experiments show that our methodology can generate high quality layout automatically in just a few minutes while manual design may take couples of days.

Recently, vehicle license plate recognition system plays an important role in intelligent transportation system. This paper will propose an algorithm with low computation and high recognition rate algorithm to realize a real time license plate recognition system. We divide our system into three stages, including license plate locating, characters segmentation and characters recognition. A novel method for extracting license plate in complex background is proposed. Due to the influence of lighting effects, tilt or dirty of the license plate, we also create a method to compensate these cases. In characters recognition, template matching and similarity measure are used such that our algorithm is more robust in different inclination and lighting conditions.
