Abstract:
At present, in China’s automobile manufacturing industry, the main problem is the manufacturing of parts and on-board equipment. Most domestic industries still adopt the step-by-step production of parts, and each manufacturer customizes the required parts according to the scale and production needs of its own enterprise. This situation is easy to cause unstable quality of parts and serious unqualified quality inspection problems. Based on the above situation, we study the high-quality development, parts quality optimization, and remanufacturing of auto parts manufacturing industry with the support of machine learning model. Firstly, based on the analysis of auto parts procurement and production mode, this paper briefly describes the basic problems in the manufacturing process of auto parts in China. Machine learning technology is used to count the changes of quality data in manufacturing, and the quality standard is reflected in the learning model. The machine learning algorithm is used to diagnose and analyze the faults of auto parts and equipment, so as to turn high-quality production to high-quality production. The projection feature extraction algorithm is used to quantitatively analyze the low quality state of automobile parts. Finally, 3D printing technology is used to solve the quality manufacturing problem of parts with high-precision requirements, and the later materials are processed again to achieve the purpose of remanufacturing planning. The results show that the transformation of auto parts manufacturing to high quality can improve the economic development of the auto industry and meet the needs of modern society. The data analysis of parts controlled by machine learning model can help the precision manufacturing of automobile parts.

Abstract:
The automobile industry is an obvious indication of a country's economic development. Because it requires high performance and quality parts, it is also an innovation and comprehension intensive sector. Because of its deep forward and backward links with many key segments of the economy, the automobile sector is also prominent in India. Because of the strong supply support provided by various auto ancillary manufacturing companies, this sector has a strong multiplier effect and has the potential to be a driver of economic growth. The auto ancillary market is focused on the production and sale of transitional equipment and automotive parts used in the manufacture of automobiles. It is an important part of India's automotive industry. Such industries allow vehicle manufacturers to concentrate on their core competencies. The auto ancillary manufacturing Industry, with its high growth prospects, is one of the emerging industries in Indian markets. The Altman Z rating is a beneficial expedient for identifying a company's economic resilience and the probability of insolvency. The Z rating method was once used in this to find out to check the economic fitness of Indian auto ancillary manufacturing companies. The economic facts of 10 auto ancillary manufacturing companies listed groups on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) have been used to study each unique and rising market Altman Z rating formulae. The findings point out that not all the enterprises listed on the NSE are financially healthy. According to the study, some of the Indian auto ancillary manufacturing companies are sound and dependable without few companies, and some of the auto ancillary manufacturing companies are not likely to face monetary misery or insolvency soon.

In the 1950s, Japanese companies in the automotive sector, in particular the Toyota Motor Company, began to develop different methods to manufacture vehicles in relation to those used by U.S. industry, known at the time as a system of mass production (OHNO 1997; WOMACK et al. 1992; CUSUMANO, 1989). Breaking this paradigm resulted in a new production model, known as the Toyota Production System (TPS) and popularized in the west by the name of lean manufacturing (LM) or lean production (LP). With the implementation of new production systems, it is generally verified that changes occur in production strategies (PSs), in coordinating the flow of materials and information and also the relationships between customers and suppliers, and these can have major impacts on the ways organizational implemented. Given this context, the main objective of this work is to identify and analyze the relationships between production strategies and lean manufacturing approach in three companies of the auto parts industry that have adopted lean manufacturing as a system for production management, trying to verify the role that STP has in the PSs of each company. We opted for a qualitative approach and the research strategy used was the case study. The results of the study indicate that production strategies and lean production are effectively aligned in the cases studied, showing that LP acts supporting the PS of the companies.

In the middle of 1980s, Cooper and Kaplan had researched many cases and then developed “Activity-Based costing (ABC)”system to improve traditional financial costing system. In this system, they ,cost analysts, analyze business process to find out cost factors. According these factors to distribute resources, then each product cost is able to be computed accurately. If enterprises need detail data records and accurately distribute their resources, they have to employ an enterprise resource planning system. Most ERP system adopted by small and medium business in Taiwan are based on transaction processing, not on cost. Thus, Taiwan’s famous ERP system could not provide sufficient in data for Activity-Based costing system. This study tries to simplify the ABC system to suggest a method of prototyping model system that is expected to be a reference for helping the small and medium enterprises in Taiwan to build ABC system.

Abstract:
Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a systematic technique to translate customer needs into the technical characteristics of a product or service. The competitiveness of the product in the market is dependent on how much a product reflects the needs/requirements of the customer. QFD is a structured process, a visual language, and a set of inter-linked engineering and management charts. It establishes customer value using the voice of the customer and transforms that value into design, production, and manufacturing process characteristics. This study presents the implementation of QFD in ABC Company where steering are manufactured. Users had faced problems with current design of the steering so the company has decide to come up with design of the steering which incorporates the needs of customer so as to have lesser field problems. Hence the voices/image of the customers for a good steering were collected and converted into customer requirements (WHATS). Kano questionnaire was used to prioritize the requirements of the customer. Then engineering characteristics or technical descriptors (HOWS) were determined in such a way that technical descriptors helps in achieving/fulfilling one or more customer requirement. These WHATS & HOWS were placed in the house of quality to obtain relation between them and know how they affect each other. On the basis of customer requirements customer competitive assessment of current product was done with respect to the competitors. Similarly on the basis of technical descriptors current product was compared with the competitors so as to find where the improvement is required. Prioritized customer requirements and prioritized technical descriptors were developed for WHATS & HOWS respectively. On the basis of outcome from the house of quality various modifications for steering design are suggested so as to make the steering more competitive in the market & to have lesser complaints from user end. This will help the company to improve the quality of steering. As far as limitations of study are concerned, more customer requirements could have been placed in the house of quality to get more improved steering system, number of customer complaints row could have been used to get weakness of the product as per technical parameters. This QFD technique can be implemented for process planning and production planning phase in future which would further reduce overall cycle time required to the manufacture the product.

Auto Parts Manufacturing Industry has the characteristics of technology-intensive and high specialized division. To maintain basic competitive ability, Auto firm needs well-designed operation procedure and precise cost control. Through the total operating performance analysis, we can tell the gap of various efficiencies between rivals and itself, to learn the core ability of the benchmark, find out internal weakness and potential improving space. Finally, to get better situation in the competitive market. This paper adapts multi-dimension efficiency evaluation method, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), to calculate each Auto firm’s Technical Efficiency (TE), Pure Technical Efficiency (PTE), Scale Efficiency (SE), and Slack. Using this information,we can suggest private firms how to improve and downsize reasonably. Fartherly, this paper uses step-by-step regression model to investigate key subjective input variables which greatly affect one to become the benchmark firm. This paper uses the data of 36 auto parts manufacturers in Taiwan 2003, adapts Capital, Staff Numbers of R&D department, Staff Numbers of Non R&D department as the input variable, Operating Revenue as output variable, to run the DEA process. The research results revealed that most Auto firms’performance is inefficient and has huge space to improve. The key subjective input variable which greatly affect one to become the benchmark firm are supply-chain management and customer-service related variable.

In the automotive aftermarket (After Market,AM) industry in Taiwan, customers are getting more and more demanding on their quality requirements. How the electrophoretic-deposition (Electrophoretic deposition,ED) production line can provide the most stable quality at the shortest time and in an accurate, fast and low-cost manner is also one of the core competitive factors in the current automotive AM industry. In the automotive AM industry, the product must not only be competitive in price, but must also must satisfy the customer’s needs for high quality. This requires more strict and accurate quality standards in the production process. However, in the automotive AM industry in Taiwan, customers are getting more particular about quality requirements. How the ED production line can provide the most stable quality in the most efficient, accurate, fast and low-cost manner is also one of the core advantages of the current automotive AM industry. The production of diversified products in small quantities and the use of composite materials are the current production modes and also constitute a future trend. To correctly estimate and accurately evaluate the process capability indices Cpk and Ppk, researches and analyses have been made with various methods or in various viewpoints in many literatures. These indices Cpk and Ppk are utilized to control first-stage quality to avoid preliminary quality differences, resulting in unsatisfactory random market inspection or examination results or in giving a significant risk to customers. For manufacturers, Cpk and Ppk calculation data can provide important information on the minimum process capability. For quality engineers involved in the monitoring process and in estimating the process performance, these data can provide quality assurance on the process or product so that a satisfactory customer service level can be upgraded. This study is intended to take the example a local factory of the automotive AM industry that uses the process capacity indices Cpk and Ppk in the electrophoretic-deposition process and uses process capability analysis for the control of the ED process. By using this method, this factory upgrades its ED primer quality, thus increasing its competitiveness in the industry.

Motor industry is a synthesized industry combined with high technology and high added values, is considered one of most important industries in all developed countries. Due to its critical role in industrial development of a country, motor industry is also called ‘locomotive industry’ and is bolstered by auto-parts. Along with the saturation of domestic car-sale market and the development of Mass Rapid Transportation (MRT) system in metropolis, the growth of domestic demand of auto-parts is greatly affected. In addition, the lower of tariff rate and the cancellation of self-manufacture rate after Taiwan joined to the World Trade Organization (WTO) have also affected the import of auto-parts that its amount is expected to be greatly increased, which would be a threat to the survival of domestic auto-parts manufacturers. This paper adapts Data Envelope Analysis (DEA) and the Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) to evaluate the operational efficiencies and productivity variations of 50 auto-parts manufacturers in Taiwan, according to the data from1999 to 2001. The results of this research aim to provide collaborative companies with an understanding of the effects of resource application and to guide them to allocate resources rationally. In terms of variable establishment, we set up four outputs (i.e., total assets, number of employees, cost of materials, and expenditure of energy) and one input (i.e., net revenue) as analytical indicators. The research results revealed that there is no significant evidence that high total assets companies had a better operational efficiency. In addition, results obtained from the MPI demonstrate that the depression in global productivity of collaborative companies is resulted from the depression of efficiency itself.

Taiwan’s auto industry began with Taiwan Yulon Motor Company in 1957, as well as with the development of the related auto parts and components industry. After more than four decades, most companies have developed flexible production skills that allow them to produce a comprehensive assortment of auto parts and components in small quantities that meet international quality standards. The new wave of electronics manufacturing companies have devoted a large percentage of their resources to automotive products, either at their home base, or at their manufacturing facilities abroad. The QS-9000 Quality management system is a fundamental requirement for automotive parts suppliers. The main purpose of this thesis is to research the relationship between the implementation of QS-9000 and customer satisfaction. This study is focused on this inter-action from three perspectives: formulation, implementation and customer satisfaction. Key success factors such as; steering team, organization, target, criteria, documentation, training, standardization and auditing have been defined and studied for their effects on the QS-9000 management system implementation. Developing and implementation quality system utilizing the criteria given in the ISO 9000 or QS-9000 quality system standard can achieve satisfying customer requirements. The successful implementation of a quality management system can contribute to the overall business efficiency of an organization, such as administration, accounting, engineering, marketing, maintenance and after-sales service. The company shall develop the internal and external customer satisfaction indices to check the customer expectation on their service and product. Quality cost are the costs of putting thing right. The monitor for cost of quality can reduce the non-productivity hours and material scrap then achieves the continual improvement management philosophy. In addition, the surveyed case firms disclosed that the QS-9000 standards indeed helped their organization to upgrade the efficiency and service quality of their operation and as such enhance their company’s image as well as customer satisfaction.

In recent years, with the rapid development process, the China market has undergone tremendous changes. Many industries have begun to appear the phenomenon of market integration. Among them, the automobile market is more prominent, with the trend of strong and strong, and weak and weak. The China auto market is gradually merging to the market allocation of no more than 10 automakers. At the same time, the market of new energy vehicles is emerging, and market share is gradually shifting due to government policies. Faced with such a market environment, how to grasp key account and make efficient resource investment will become the most important issue for auto parts suppliers.   In the past, foreign researches on key account were roughly classified into three parts: the layout of organizational resources, the role of sales managers, and the relationship strategy of key customers. Under the customer-oriented organizational atmosphere, the relationship strategy is regarded as the benchmark to guide enterprises to construct key account management system. Due to the relatively high price, long life and high security of the products in the automobile industry, the cooperation of the automobile industry in the past has been steadily established on the long-term contract with of high trust and high relationship between the two parties. Therefore, the relationship strategy of key account is particularly important for auto parts suppliers. However, under the circumstance of limited organizational resources of suppliers, it is necessary to evaluate customer attraction for key customers and construct the relationship strategy. Therefore, this study is mainly to explore the fit relationship strategy for key customers. However, there are three major gaps in relationship strategies:   Lack of customer attraction evaluation. 2. Lack of customer expectations evaluation for relationship strategies. 3. Lack of cost assessment of relationship strategies.      Based on the social exchange theory, this study will use the focus group method to evaluate three indicators, such as customer attraction, customer expectation of relationship strategy and cost of relationship strategy, and then estimate the appropriate relationship strategy combination model. Finally, it will take the case company as an example to introduce the indicators and derive the results.

Abstract:
Chapter 17 focuses on the automobile industry as a familiar, large-scale, globalized exemplar of manufacturing industries in general. It begins with the widespread use of cooperative strategies at the corporate level—whether using a corporate brand, building a family of brands that can use common innovation, platforms, and parts, or pursuing specific markets through alliances, the automotive industry offers a variety of cooperative strategies. The chapter then looks specifically at the use of joint production and supply agreements, a practice that is universal in the auto sector and has grown steadily as it has matured. Finally, it addresses market entry alliances to build and sell (and sometimes to design) cars—and perhaps to manage competition—in foreign markets. The chapter also addresses the issue of alliance versus acquisition in manufacturing before closing with a look at changes coming from the rapid growth of emerging markets.

Abstract:
Quality management systems (QMS) have evolved in parallel with the concept of quality itself. The standardization of the requirements beyond the ISO 9001 standard makes the fulfillment of the suppliers and the relationship with the main clients much easier. Therefore, other criteria and/or standards have been developed that generally refer to documents published by national or international standards bodies. This work explores the situation of the main models and standards used in the automotive industry and especially in the manufacturing companies of the auto parts sector. In this case, the most commonly used models are the European Foundation for Quality Award (EFQM) in Europe, Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA) in the USA, Deming Prize in Japan and Asia, among others.

Abstract:
Commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti) attracts a large number of attentions in biomedical, astronautical, and auto industrial areas due to its superior properties of good biocompatibility, excellent corrosion resistance, and high strength-to-weight ratio. Comparing with the conventional manufacturing processes (such as casting along with machining), laser additive manufacturing (LAM), mainly including selective laser sintering/melting (SLS/M) and laser engineered net shaping (LENS), has many advantages, such as complex shaped parts producing, more capability of shorter design-to-market time, energy consumption reducing, etc. It was reported that SLS/M has been successfully used in fabricating of CP-Ti components. Comparing with SLS/M processes, LENS has many advantages, including lower labor intensity, higher fabrication efficiency, and more capabilities for parts repairing and rebuilding. It is reported that LENS process was only used in CP-Ti coating and porous parts fabrication, there are no reported investigations on CP-Ti three-dimensional (3D) solid parts using LENS process. The investigations in this paper are going to conduct preliminary studies on effect of fabricating variables. In order to evaluate powder efficiency and parts’ quality, heights of fabricated parts and hardness on the top surface of the parts will be tested.

Abstract:
This paper presents redesign of a car body for material weight reduction for the cost saving by material as well as fuel efficiency improvement. ULSAB (Ultra Light Steel Auto Body Structure) concept is used for weight reduction in redesigning process. Modularization is used for redesigning to reduce parts cost. Four factors: cost of modules, cost of assembly, common design and weight of the car are considered. Comparison for the material cost, weight and assembly time has been done for proposed design and existing design. Redesign car shows efficient fuel consumption car. Automotive sector could reduce their total manufacturing cost per vehicle by using modularization in design. The customers will get cheaper and fuel efficient car.

Abstract:
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Vehicle aesthetic appearance is critical factor in the perceived quality of a vehicle. Auto OEM focuses on the improvement of perceived quality. The perceived quality of a vehicle is improved by achieving a superior finish on the visible parts. Plastic parts used in visible areas are painted to achieve a superior finish &amp; aesthetic. However, the painting process is very energy intensive, releases a lot of harmful VOCs into the environment, emits carbon di-oxide into the environment &amp; is a very costly process. Also, painted parts pose a challenge for recycling at the end of life. For painting one square meter area, around 6.5 Kg of co2 is released. Additionally, the painting cost contributes to around 60 % of the part cost. As the emphasis has increased on sustainability &amp; reducing the cost, we took the challenge to develop novel mold in color material to eliminate the painting process without compromising the aesthetic &amp; functional requirements of part. The challenge was to develop the mold in color (MIC) material having a similar appearance as the painted part with no compromise on functional performance and use the existing injection molding tool. This paper explains the development methodology of MIC material &amp; application validation methodology to ensure a similar aesthetic &amp; functional requirement as painted part.</div></div>

Full text
Abstract:
In the auto body assembly process, fixtures are used to position parts during assembly and inspection. If there is variation in the positioning process, this will propagate to the final assembly. There are also other sources of variation in the final assembly, such as variation in parts due to previous manufacturing steps. To facilitate the separation of the different sources of variation, and thereby also improve fault diagnosis, a fixture failure subspace control chart is proposed. This control chart is based on a multivariate T2-chart, but only variations in the fixture failure subspace are considered. The method is applied to two industrial case studies with satisfying results.

Abstract:
Abstract As globalization continues, manufacturing enterprises need to do mass customization with a short lead-time, to satisfy evolving market demands in different regions. One challenge of mass customization is to fulfill orders swiftly at an acceptable cost, meanwhile maintaining the service quality. To do this, the customer order decoupling point – CODP, where the value-adding activities take place, should be designed and adapted to the changing market demands. In this paper, we propose a Formulation-Exploration method to make decisions on CODP positioning and improve the supply chain to support mass customization. A test problem of auto parts manufacturing is used to establish the efficacy of our method. The Formulation-Exploration method can be used to design supply chains to manage mass customization of products, especially when information is incomplete and inaccurate, goals conflict and multiple types of uncertainty add complexity. In this paper, we focus on the method rather than the results per se.
