Abstract:
This article deals with the Spanish analytic columns written by prominent modern writers J. Marías y J. Cercas for the Sunday supplement of Spanish national quality paper «El País» and one of its main strategies which can be defined as negative focus or a negative frame for presenting their articles. The aim of our investigation was to confirm our hypothesis by analyzing a significant corpus of publications (since 2010 till now) that the negative markedness turns to be a distinctive sigh of this type of analytical writings mostly due to relevant position of its authors in the Spanish literature world and its huge experience as journalists. Being determined by the actual social totally extralinguistic conditions, the preliminary negative evaluation influences on the author election of all language levels means such as lexical, syntactical, first of all, and by combining them in order to increase the pragmatic value of the publication. The author´s idea is expressed by integrating all possible means to transmit the main strategy which intention is to attract the readers´ attention to that particular part of the Spanish reality, to make him/her get interested and involved in the information and, if possible, to influence on his/her attitude to it by the unique interpretation methods used by Marías y Cercas. The negative evaluativity of author column detected even at first glance on semantic level is able to transform into powerful pragmatic tool. The examined material has widely proved that negative evaluative perspective of columns reveals the author´s intention to touch the reader and reach the efficiency by appealing to his emotions and evaluating criteria.

Most of the bibliographic databases like Web of Science, Scopus etc. use author name and full author name as two separate fields in the citation database. The analysis part uses short form of author name to list the high prolific authors. There are discrepancies in this listing since it is possible to render two different authors like Zang, Jio and Zang, James under one caption Zang, J.While listing the high productive authors in the analysis part, Zang, J will have two publications though the two authors are different. This study illustrates this ambiguity in rendering of author names taking scientometric analysis of Arrhythmia research as case study.

Abstract:
The study aims to explore the specific features of the modern reception of J.-J. Rousseau’s “Confessions”. The theoretical framework of the research is grounded on the ideas advanced by T. Avtuxovych, M.Czermińska, M.Głowiński, W.Iser, R. Jakobson, H.R.Jauss, P.Lejeune, Yu. Lotman, V.Tjupa, Zh. Starobinskiy and other scholars. The researchers describe the semiotic model of literary communication and the theory of the text by Yuri Lotman. The research was conducted using historic-functional, hermeneutic, receptive, and theoretical analysis methods. An attempt is made in this paper to show how the process of “decoding” the meanings intended by the author in the text takes place. In particular, the authors study how Rousseau’s “Confessions” functions in the structure of modern literary communication. The specific objectives of the present study are the meanings of “Confessions” are read by the contemporary recipient and which ones are relegated to the background compared to the literary communication of the eighteenth century. The common discourse code of the author and the reader is the key to successful communication and understanding of the specifics of the project of Rousseau’s life writing. At the same time, the success and specificity of artistic communication are influenced by the difference in discourse code meanings related to the time distance between the author and the recipient and the layering of new historical and cultural patterns in the reader’s consciousness. At the thematic level, three main themes are considered, including: a) the social origin of the autobiographical subject, b) his conflict with society, and c) the protagonist’s intimate self-disclosure. Thus, the article provides a detailed examination of the motif of the social origin of the autobiographical character. On the topic of the social origin of the character, instead of the plebeian’s right to public attention for the contemporary reader, the value of education and knowledge, freedom of speech and individual liberty are being actualised. Of particular note is the theme of the conflict between a character and society, the idea of the human right to otherness, the right to personal liberty and the right to choose the concept of one’s own life comes to the forefront. Thus, a literary text realises the social function of literature. The reading of the character’s self-disclosure by an attentive reader (from Rousseau’s contemporary to modern readers) has a twofold purpose: first, to encourage everyone to live the experience of the character and thus to think about themselves, and second, to reflect on society as a whole. It testifies to the fact that in the aspect of self-disclosure of the meaning of “Confessions”, the transformation of confession as an external form of a religious rite of repentance addressed to God into the narrative genre of confessional autobiography addressed to a human reader of the story is actualized. The study demonstrated a need for continuation of the study in the aspect of reader reception to contribute to the perception of its place in the contemporary literary and cultural space.

Every time a paper is submitted to the journal, we realize the effort and amount of work it takes for performing the study, writing, formatting, and submitting the paper for peer review. However, how many of these papers are suitable for publication? Medical writing considerations, including an understandable text that does not confuse reading, formality, and ethics in writing, should be kept in mind when preparing and writing a paper to be submitted for publication to a journal. This editorial note offers useful advice for the authors submitting their papers to a journal on what to keep in mind before submission, how to prepare a quality submission, how to win the editor for their paper to avoid rejection, and how to make it to the review process and maybe to get published. It is our belief that these tips and advice on medical writing apply to any author and any journal.

Abstract:
We tried in this work to deal with the problem of the expression of the self, in a period where lots of new experiences of personal writings were explored, even if autobiography did obviously not exist with its modern meaning. In the first part, we define the letter as a genre, examining its specific enonciative features. The second part tackles the problem of the political narration in the letters, in order to understand how and on which purpose the privatus and the familiaris show the public man. The third part tries to understand what kind of relationship an individual of this period can have with himself : as a matter of fact, writing letters is a way of trying to know one-self and seeking a kind of freedom in a period where this term, - we are at the end of the Republic -, has acquired new significations

Abstract:

Abstract:
This work deals with the influence of Euripides over the greek authors - poets and writers - of the Hellenistic era and the High Empire. In the first section, we examine the literary motives (expressive and thematic) borrowed from Euripides by three poets, Sositheus, Theocritus and Apollonius of Rhodes, representing very clearly three kinds of literature : the drama, the epic poetry and the idyll. In the second section, we analyse on the one hand the judgement throughout the whole literary work of Euripides by Longinus, Dio Chrysostom, Plutarch of Chaironeia and Lucian of Samosata ; on the other hand we deal with the distribution and the manipulation of references to the poet into the same writers : by projecting certain reflections of Euripides' theatre over different aspects of human life, they enlighten moral and political values. However, Plutarch does not deny the qualities of artistic creation of dramatizing, as the power of the tragic images. Lucian is distinguished by his choice to exploit the Euripides' references in a comic text of a parodic aim

Abstract:
This work is an essay of characterization and classification of the deposits of objects put down in graves and aims at understanding their evolution between the end of the 3rd century BC and the 3rd quarter of Ist century AD. The study concern 1181 graves, coming from 10 cemeteries of the territory of Treviri. The report counts four parts. The first part sums up studies about funeral deposits (especially about metallic objects in graves) and explains the developed methodological approach : a functional approach of objects integrated into a multidimensional statistical treatment (ACP). The second part proposes a classification of graves according to their associations of objects and analyze their chronological evolution. An hypothesis of hierachical reading is proposed for the different objects and the groups they characterized. The third part analyzes the evolution of funeral deposits inside each cemeteries. The fourth part synthetizes all the phenomena observed and tries to propose an interpreted reading. So funeral deposits are the reflection of ritual practices testifying of a big stability during all the studied period. They are also the reflection of a social history. This history testifies of an internal evolution of the Treviri society, driving to the recognition of craftsmen in the augustean period, according to a process begun during LT D1 and precipitated by the war. This history testifies also of the economic boom of the big towns thanks to the Roman presence

Full text
Abstract:
Our approach, inspired by the anthropological studies of ancient Greece, is conducted along two mains lines. As a first step, we attempt to examine the specific patterns of filiation delineated by the tragics : firstly, through Oedipus' sons, whose suicidal twinship repeats their father's duality. Then, through Orestes who, in Aeschylus' and Euripides' plays, appears as a mimetic son doomed to a loss of self. Finally, through Euripides' Hippolytus and Hyllus in the trachiniae, paralysed sons who are denied harmonious access to adulthood. Our second direction of research leads us to study the process of "entrapment" which seems to govern the characters' way of relating to their own speech; we use the polysemy of the terms akin to philos as an example allowing us to establish a parallel between the son figures and some female characters participating in their destiny and debates : thus, in the first chapter, we re-examine the tragedies devoted to Orestes, from Aeschylus to Euripides, showing how this conflicting polysemy reveals the tensions between family and elective ties. In the second chapter, Antigone embodies, in the Oedipus coloneus as well, the labdacides' tendency to revert to the origin regardless of the law of reproduction inherent in civic life. Lastly, the third chapter is devoted to Medea, who can only realize herself by consummating her refusal of marriage, and yearning for the paternal home through murdering her sons. In the conclusion, we propose to show that tragic philia is a kind of antidote to "proper" civic filiation-reproduction, and we expose the issue of the effect produced on the citizenspectator of Athens by this projection of the fundamentals of his own condition

Zivie-Coche, Christiane. "Autour du temple d'Isis dame des pyramides ou Giza au premier millénaire." Paris 4, 1987. http://www.theses.fr/1987PA040347.

Abstract:
The plateau of Giza is one of the most famous, if not most well-known, sites of Egypt, not far from Cairo. The history of the site is linked with the beginnings of the history of Egypt and the first dynasties. It will last, almost without any gap, until the Greco-Roman period. The pyramids of the IVth dynasty, erected by Khufu, Khephren and Mykerinos and the great sphinx, appear obviously as the most striking features of the site. Nevertheless its life will survive for two other millenniums after the end of the old kingdom. New cults appeared. The worshipping of Harmachis, as the Egyptians called the great sphinx, and his pilgrimage began during the 18th dynasty and lasted during the first millennium. At that time, the devotion to Isis was increasing; the goddess was known as the "mistress of the pyramids" who protected the whole site. The funerary chapel of the southern subsidiary pyramid, east of Khufu's pyramid, was restored and enlarged to be used as a cult chapel for Isis. Inscriptions and artefacts, stelae, statues, etc. Have been left by the priests and the worshippers of the goddess. A good part of them have not been published before. Owing to these new data, it has been possible to reconstruct the history of the site

Bernard, Gwladys. "Autour du détroit de Gibraltar : espaces politiques et juridiques sous l'Empire Romain." Bordeaux 3, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011BOR30063.

Full text
Abstract:
The strait of Gibraltar, channel between two continents, narrow corridor between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, is a pivotal geographic feature. It has played a key role in the history of the neighbouring areas since the beginning of the Ancient World. It therefore deserves to be studied in and for itself. Indeed, its narrowness allowed repeated contacts between populations from both sides of the Mediterranean Sea since the Chalcolithic. More than a border, Gibraltar is a bridge that links the two shores of the Mediterranean Sea and an unavoidable gateway to the Atlantic Ocean. The existence of this strait, with its routes, harbors and currents, contributed to the shape of a specific area that influenced two vast hinterlands: the South of the Iberian Peninsula and the North of the western Maghreb. Rome was present in those regions since the end of the 1st century B. C. And gradually imposed a new political structure, that of a large Italy-centered empire, to this Iberian-Mauritanian area. The new political and military structures had to allow the integration of southern Hispania and Mauritania into a Mediterranean unity

Abstract:
AbstractIn our article, we explore implications that the indistinguishability of factuality and fictionality in literary works may have on an author’s credibility and their role as an authoritative figure. We do this by looking at one question and one answer in the fictional author interview in Bot – Gespräch ohne Autor (2018) by the Austrian author Clemens J. Setz. Currently, Setz is one of the most distinguished writers in the German-speaking literary scene, known for his versatile literary work and authorial staging practices. Bot plays with the public perception of the author persona Setz and stages an imitation game, also known as the Turing Test. Thus, it affects the perception of truth claims traditionally expected in author interviews. To illustrate, we refer to theoretical approaches to forms and functions of author interviews concerning authorship in the context of the so-called culture of presence and show how Bot reveals a playful reflection on the possibilities, limits, and dangers embedded in the perceived truthfulness within the framework of fiction and authorship, particularly in Setz’s.

Abstract:
In the article, the author discusses the language comparisons in Johann Eberhard Fischer’s (10.1.1697-13.9.1771) “Vocabularium Si-biricum”. This “etymological part” of the work was edited and published by J. Gulya in 1995. An edition that received a great deal of attention - including from E. A. Helimski, who referred in passing to the Nostratic character of some of the parallels shown in Fischer’s work. In the present essay, these “equivalents” are compiled by the author in their numerical relations, following the original manuscript and based on Gulya’s partial edition.

Rains, Caroline, and Kristen Giombi. How Effective Are Healthy Eating Interventions Delivered in Early Childhood Education and Care Settings? A Cochrane Review Summary With Commentary. RTI Press, July 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.3768/rtipress.2024.rb.0038.2407.

Full text
Abstract:
This brief summarizes the published Cochrane Review, “Healthy Eating Interventions Delivered in Early Childhood Education and Care Settings for Improving the Diet of Children Aged Six Months to Six Years,” by S. L. Yoong, M. Lum, L. Wolfenden, J. Jackson, C. Barnes, A. E. Hall, S. McCrabb, N. Pearson, C. Lane, J. Z. Jones, E. Nolan, L. Dinour, T. McDonnell, D. Booth, and A. Grady (https://doi.org/10.1002/14651858.CD013862.pub3). The Cochrane Review examines evidence for effectiveness of healthy eating interventions delivered in early childhood education and care (ECEC) settings for improving child dietary quality and health among children aged between 6 months and 6 years. Review authors conclude that ECEC-based healthy eating interventions may improve child diet quality slightly, potentially increasing fruit consumption (moderate-certainty evidence) and may have favorable effects on child weight (high-certainty evidence) and risk of being overweight or obese (moderate-certainty evidence). Overall, the review supports healthy eating interventions delivered in ECEC settings on several outcome measures; however, the certainty of evidence is moderate to very low because of considerable heterogeneity, potential publication bias, and high/unclear risks of bias. The review and original commentary acknowledge the limitations of the evidence, suggesting that future trials examine the impact of specific intervention components and focus on populations in low- and lower-middle-income countries. The original commentary also describes other relevant research focused on healthy eating interventions in ECEC settings that have shown an impact.

Gregory, Scott. A life of leadership, a call to do better: A hermeneutic inquiry into the lived experience of an educator - Raw Data. Fort Hays State University Scholars Repository, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.58809/qphb1840.

Full text
Abstract:
Eliciting lived experiences, we seek to identify those experiences that have shaped the lived practice of a career and desire to answer: (1) How have experiences informed a career? (2) What does the lived educational experiences of an educator portend for the future of education? This inquiry incorporates the lived past experiences of the co-authors. Additionally, we seek to offer a path forward for the future of the profession that we love and have been grateful to experience. This data was part of a hermeneutic inquiry research project involving myself and my father, Dr. Leonard L. Gregory. The data was recorded utilizing a phone recording and then setting up a zoom meeting whereby the audio was converted onto a word document. From there, the data was uploaded into Dedoose where it was stored and coded for initial themes. The journal entries that I made were from a personal print copy journal. I utilized this journal after the initial round of recordings with my father. I used it to jot down questions that I had from the previous meeting, and we utilized it to make notations of thoughts that we both had afterwards from the meetings we had. The text Conducting Hermeneutic Research: From philosophy to Practice by Nancy J. Moules, et al., was a key influence and outlines the use of my data according to hermeneutic standards.

Chandra, Shailesh, Mehran Rahmani, Timothy Thai, Vivek Mishra, and Jacqueline Camacho. Evaluating Financing Mechanisms and Economic Benefits to Fund Grade Separation Projects. Mineta Transportation Institute, January 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.31979/mti.2020.1926.

Full text
Abstract:
Investment in transportation infrastructure projects generates benefits, both direct and indirect. While emissions reductions, crash reductions, and travel time savings are prominent direct benefits, there are indirect benefits in the form of real estate enhancements that could pay off debt or loan incurred in the improvement of the infrastructure itself. Studies have shown that improvements associated with rail transportation (such as station upgrades) trigger an increase in the surrounding real estate values, increasing both the opportunity for monetary gains and, ultimately, property tax collections. There is plenty of available guidance that provides blueprints for benefits calculations for operational improvements in rail transportation. However, resources are quite limited in the analysis of benefits that accrue from the separation of railroad at-grade crossings. Understanding the impact of separation in a neighborhood with high employment or population could generate revenues through increased tax collections. In California, the research need is further amplified by a lack of guidance from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) on at-grade crossing for separation based on revenue generated. There is a critical need to understand whether grade separation projects could impact neighboring real estate values that could potentially be used to fund such separations. With COVID-19, as current infrastructure spending in California is experiencing a reboot, an approach more oriented to benefits and costs for railroad at-grade separation should be explored. Thus, this research uses a robust benefits-to-cost analysis (BCA) to probe the economic impacts of railroad at-grade separation projects. The investigation is carried out across twelve railroad-highway at-grade crossings in California. These crossings are located at Francisquito Ave., Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Station, Sassafras St., Palm St., Civic Center Dr., L St., Spring St. (North), J St., E St., H St., Parkmoor West, and Nursery Ave. The authors found that a majority of the selected at-grade crossings analyzed accrue high benefits-to-cost (BC) ratios from travel time savings, safety improvements, emissions reductions, and potential revenue generated if property taxes are collected and used to fund such separation projects. The analysis shows that with the estimated BC ratios, the railroad crossing at Nursery Ave. in Fremont, Palm St. in San Diego, and H St. in Chula Vista could be ideal candidates for separation. The methodology presented in this research could serve as a handy reference for decision-makers selecting one or more at-grade crossings for the separation considering economic outputs and costs.

KellerLynn, Katie. Redwood National and State Parks: Geologic resources inventory report. National Park Service, October 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.36967/nrr-2287676.

Abstract:
Comprehensive park management to fulfill the NPS mission requires an accurate inventory of the geologic features of a park unit, but Comprehensive park management to fulfill the NPS mission requires an accurate inventory of the geologic features of a park unit, but park managers may not have the needed information, geologic expertise, or means to complete such an undertaking; therefore, the Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) provides information and resources to help park managers make decisions for visitor safety, planning and protection of infrastructure, and preservation of natural and cultural resources. Information in the GRI report may also be useful for interpretation. park managers may not have the needed information, geologic expertise, or means to complete such an undertaking; therefore, the Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) provides information and resources to help park managers make decisions for visitor safety, planning and protection of infrastructure, and preservation of natural and cultural resources. Information in the GRI report may also be useful for interpretation. This report synthesizes discussions from a scoping meeting for Redwood National and State Parks (referred to as the “parks” throughout this report) held in 2004 and a follow-up conference call in 2019. Two GRI–compiled GIS data sets of the geology and geohazards of the parks are the principal deliverables of the GRI. The GRI GIS data are available on the GRI publications website http://go.nps.gov/gripubs and through the NPS Integrated Resource Management Applications (IRMA) portal https://irma.nps.gov/App/Portal/Home. Enter “GRI” as the search text and select a park from the unit list. Writing of this report was based on those data and the interpretations of the source map authors (see “GRI Products” and “Acknowledgements”). A geologic map poster illustrates the geology GRI GIS data set and serves as a primary figure for this GRI report. No poster was prepared for the geohazards GRI GIS data set. Additionally, figure 7 of this report illustrates the locations of the major geologic features in the parks. Unlike the poster, which is divided into a northern and southern portion to show detail while accommodating the parks’ length, figure 7 is a single-page, simplified map. The features labeled on figure 7 are discussed in the “Geologic History, Features, and Processes” chapter. To provide a context of geologic time, this report includes a geologic time scale (see "Geologic History, Features, and Processes"). The parks’ geologic story encompasses 200 million years, starting in the Jurassic Period. Following geologic practice, the time scale is set up like a stratigraphic column, with the oldest units at the bottom and the youngest units at the top. Organized in this manner, the geologic time scale table shows the relative ages of the rock units that underlie the parks and the unconsolidated deposits that lie at the surface. Reading the “Geologic Event” column in the table, from bottom to top, will provide a chronologic order of the parks’ geologic history. The time scale includes only the map units within the parks that also appear on the geologic map poster; that is, map units of the geohazards data are not included. Geology is a complex science with many specialized terms. This report provides definitions of geologic terms at first mention, typically in parentheses following the term. Geologic units in the GRI GIS data are referenced in this report using map unit symbols; for example, map unit KJfrc stands for the Cretaceous (K) and Jurassic (J) Franciscan Complex (f), Redwood Creek schist (rc), which underlies a portion of the Redwood Creek watershed (see “GRI Products”).

Abstract:
In this issue, this section presents four book reviews, with the first and the last being written by the authors themselves. A novelty is that all of them are also available in English language (Portuguese versions are also available on page 101). We remind you that the reviews are written in an abbreviated and concise way to summarize the content of the books (on subjects related to the various sciences involving acoustics, vibrations, and audio) and to bring information about the authors (to further contextualize the works). We present reviews of the following books in this issue: Room Acoustics: Design and Modeling (Acústica de Salas: Projeto e Modelagem) Author: Eric Brandão | Blucher, 2016 Array Signal Processing: Concepts and Techniques Authors: Don H. Johnson and Dan E. Dudgeon | Prentice Hall, 1993. Acoustics in Building Rehabilitation (A Acústica na Reabilitação de Edifícios) Author: Jorge Patrício | Engebook, 2018 (4 ed.) Virtual Experiments in Mechanical Vibrations: Structural Dynamics and Signal Processing Authors: Bin Tang and Michael J. Brennan | Wiley, 2022 Eric Brandão, professor of the Acoustical Engineering Program (EAC) at the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM, Brazil), presents his book on Room Acoustics (a subject he teaches in the program) — the book was technically revised by William D’Andrea Fonseca (who is an EAC professor as well). The work won the Jabuti Prize (2017) and is in its first revised edition. Next, we have a classic, “Array Signal Processing”, by American professors Don H. Johnson and Dan E. Dudgeon, a must-read for studies on the subject that deal with mechanical or electromagnetic waves. The third book is authored by Jorge Patrício (professor in Portugal), who is a reference in Building Acoustics. Finally, we have the book “Virtual Experiments in Mechanical Vibrations: Structural Dynamics and Signal Processing”, by Bin Tang and Michael J. Brennan, who write the review of their own book (an international collaboration). We hope that reading the reviews offers an initial understanding and good impression about the studies and awakens the desire to know them in their entirety: an excellent way to expand knowledge and keep up to date in the field.
