Full textSchool leaders face the challenge of creating and maintaining learning during rapid and complex conditions. Some of the challenges associated with leadership based on authenticity in intercultural schools will be discussed. The purpose of this essay is to describe and gain an insight into three school leaders´ views on leadership in multicultural schools. The study is based on scientific articles and the survey consists of interviews with head teachers in different multicultural schools. The hermeneutic research approach has been the basis for this study through qualitative interviews and collected data for analysis. To get a better understanding of the issues this essay culminates in, different leadership styles are shortly presented. The characteristics that underpin this study will hopefully be better understood through definitions of key concepts. In an attempt to further define authentic leadership, the concept of authentic followership will be introduced and discussed. Effective leadership in intercultural schools requires genuine understanding and action. In line with this, various strategies are proposed by which leaders can consciously transform and better understand the problems and find solutions in intercultural school contexts.

Full textAuthentic leadership represents one of the newest areas of leadership research and focuses on a true and genuine leadership that reflects the true self. There are ambiguities whether it is possible to be true towards oneself or if organizational complexities affect its possibilities. Authentic leadership has been pointed out as the successful leadership approach within lean at Sweden Migrant Board. The aim was therefore to capture experiences of the authentic leadership within an organization that claims to apply lean. The study had a qualitative research design which included six semi-structured interviews with leaders at the Swedish Migration Board. The result showed that authentic leadership was declared genuine through self- reflection and relationships. The study also shows that the organization has a significant role for leaders' ability to be authentic or not. With this study, we want to pay attention to authentic leadership and what it can contribute. We also want to lift the organization's meaning for authentic leadership.

Full textAbstract (en) Title: Modern leadership – A study of Real estate leaders based on Authentic Leadership Level: Degree project for a bachelor's degree in the subject of business administration Author: Jason Millado & Marc TörnstenSupervisor: Monika WallmonDate: June – 2021 Aim: The main purpose of this study was to investigate how authentic leadership is expressed in the brokerage profession Method: This study has been carried out with a deductive approach, where the structure of the study is about examining whether the four dimensions of authentic leadership are expressed in the brokerage profession. The study is based on ten conducted interviews with broker leaders, of which all of these leaders themselves answered questions about how they relate to the theory of the content of authentic leadership and the four dimensions. In the study, only four of the ten broker leaders were selected for the analysis of the work. The information gathered comes from the theoretical framework of authentic leadership. Result & Conclusion: The study shows a connection between the authentic leadership and the broker leader. It also shows the possibility that the theoretical framework can provide for broker leaders to develop their ethical ability to act. The study has concluded that authentic leadership occurs in the brokerage profession, where four out of ten broker leaders in the study expressed high levels of authentic leadership. Finally, authentic leadership as leadership theory can serve as a guide for a broker leader to make ethical and balancing considerations as well as decisions. Constributions of the thesis: The study contributes more information and empirical basis to the theoretical framework of authentic leadership. Previous studies have been conducted with a quantitative research. This study was based on qualitative research, which contributed to an expanded research base on authentic leadership at a deeper level. It also provides an insight into how authentic leadership is expressed in the brokerage industry. Suggestions for future research: A proposal for further research is to try to carry out a similar study from an employee perspective. To be able to secure and compare results from the manager's statement and the employee's. It should be able to provide insights into how a leader better relates to the theoretical framework of authentic leadership. In this way, there is also an opportunity for how employees and leaders within an organization can collaborate and end up in the same direction to their goals. Full textThis thesis aims to study banks that practice traditional budgeting and banks that practice Beyond Budgeting. This study investigates alternative control systems that could be applied when budget is not exercised and how come others practice budget despite bad criticism. And analyzes whether leadership differs depending on which control system is used.Centralized organizations make decisions on higher levels, decentralized organizations have their decision making and responsibility on lower levels, closer to the client. The organization’s structure affects the control system in the way that; banking office within centralized organizations can make decisions which concerns their own office, as long as it’s within organization’s frames. Decentralization enables the banking office to act more independently.This study shows alternative control systems that banks could work with is for example letting banking offices establish their own operational plan. Thereafter involve co-workers by having them formulate their plan of action, based on the operational plan. The objectives have to be measureable, realistic and achievable, and established in terms of key performance indicator. The method enables banking offices to accommodate the local market.The budget is useful to look at the organizations result, works as a tool to achieve long term goals and is established for the group executive board and CEO. It appears that the outcome usually corresponds with the budget, and that the budget gives distinct frames to stay within. It motivates co-workers to work more effectively and gives a feeling of safety.This study accentuates three distinct leadership styles; Transformational-, Servant- and Authentic leadership. Two of them are considered ethical leadership and the third pass for being desirable and effective. It appears that banking offices that practice budget exercise servant leadership and transformational leadership is used in banking offices that practice Beyond Budgeting.

Full textFörsvarsmaktens formella ledarskapsmodell Utvecklande Ledarskap förordar autenticitet hos ledare inom myndigheten. Teorier inom autenticitet visar på närmast enkom positiva effekter. Dock finns det organisatoriska faktorer som inverkar och begränsar specialistofficerares möjligheter till autentiskt handlande. Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka hur specialistofficerare upplever tillämpningen av autenticitet i sin yrkesroll. Som undersökningsmetod valdes kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer och urvalet bestod av sex aktivt tjänstgörande specialistofficerare i truppförande positioner inom Försvarsmakten. Den data som framkom analyserades genom en tematisk analys och resulterade i tre teman med elva underliggande kategorier. Resultaten stödjer teorin om hur omgivningskarakteristika påverkar ledares möjlighet att utöva utvecklande ledarskap men tillför en tydligare bild av hur dessa faktorer specifikt påverkar ledares autenticitet.

Full textTitle: Leadership in the creative process: A study about small computer game companies. Problem: Currently there is a lack of studies that focus on different leadership perspectives effect on creativity within groups. There is a lack of information about how leadership shapes and the leadership’s role in the creative process, especially in creative intensive industries. A big part of previous research focuses on countries like USA and Japan, but not Sweden. The computer game industry is a fast changing industry, therefore there are many challenges and business opportunities that organizations might lack knowledge about. Purpose: The purpose of this essay is to gain an understanding for what leadership in the creative process in small computer game companies look like. At the same time we want contribute knowledge and understanding about the leadership's influence on the creative process. Method: The study is based on a interpretive social science perspective with a qualitative research strategy. A phenomenological approach has been used to capture the respondent's’ experience of leadership in the creative process in the computer game industry with the help of semi structured interviews. The research approach was abductive due to the researchers constantly going between data and known theories when searching after the most probable explanations. During processing of data a phenomenographic data analysis model was used. Conclusion: Different leadership perspectives work differently under different circumstances. According to the theoretical framework leadership theories does not necessarily exclude one from another, rather aspects from different leadership theories are combinable. Since there are many kinds of computer game companies it is imperative to understand one’s own organization and to be open to pick aspects from different leadership theories to tailor a leadership perspective that fits the organization's context.

Full textThe field of leadership is a previously well-explored area, but relatively little research in the subject has concerned Swedish organizations and even less government institutions and authorities. In the following study, what managers at a government authority are perceived as factors to exercise successful leadership in their organization are investigated. The study is based on empirical evidence from qualitative interviews with five managers at the State Administration of Transport, Trafikverket. Through this study, a new interview method has also been developed, interactive themed interview. Where the respondent is a part in creating and designing the interview guide. In the results of this study, it is found that the investigated managers themselves felt that successful leadership in their organization is based on four factors. These are referred to as relationships, decision making, development and authenticity. The conclusions that this study can contribute beyond what factors the managers themselves consider generating a successful leadership are also how the managers act to exert what they experience successful leadership, but also what roles a successful leadership includes. That the role of the manager, the role of leader and the role as himself, affects the aforementioned factors, relationships, decision and development, and that the interaction between these roles and factors in various ways affects the managers' degree of perceived success in their leadership. The study also shows that Trafikverket's new leadership philosophy is in line with what managers perceive as contributing factors for the pursuit of successful leadership. And that this new philosophy can help managers to exert more what they themselves experience as a successful leadership.

Full textSammanfattning I denna essä som bygger på en fältstudie bestående av tre djupintervjuer med ledare för social och idéburen verksamhet inom vård, skola och omsorg utforskas vardagens ledarskap i ett filosofiskt och existentiellt perspektiv. Begreppet idéburna organisationer syftar till enskilda organisationer, vilka bedriver icke vinstdrivande verksamhet i syfte att komplettera samhällets insatser inom välfärdssektorn. En fjärde röst i essän som bidrar till studiematerialet och löper genom texten i reflexion, diskussion och analys är min egen, och mina yrkeserfarenheter utgör också en del av empirin. Existentialismen och filosofen Simone de Beauvoirs bok För en tvetydighetens moral är, tillsammans med Aristoteles’ tankar gällande dygd och praktisk kunskap, filosofiska ansatser i analysen och diskussionen av fältstudien om vardagligt ledarskap. Faktaunderlag hämtat från forskningsrapporter tillika med vetenskaplig litteratur utgör bollplank för jämförelser gällande studiens aktualitet till dagens situation och bestämning av begrepp som till exempel vad ledarskap innebär. Intervjufrågorna söker bjuda in till samtal och reflektioner om hur det är att vara ledare i mötet mellan en egen inre övertygelse och yttre omständigheter. Intentionen är att söka utforska hur det är att vara och arbeta som ledare för en social verksamhet, och hur den professionella rollen samverkar med människan som intar denna roll. I samtal och reflektioner undersöks hur ledarskapet och den intervjuades moraliska förhållningssätt relaterar till det sammanhang ledaren är verksam i. Ledarnas erfarenheter, tankar och reflektioner om sin yrkesroll är utgångspunkt för diskussion och analys. Samtalen speglar de intervjuade ledarnas moraliska värderingar och förhållningssätt i yrkesutövandet, och omvänt, vilken inverkan yrkesrollen har i den personliga sfären.

Since there have been some auditing scandals in recent years; there is reason to believe that this is not always the case. Theories and research on ethical leadership, including the authentic transformative leadership, show a positive impact on employees when it comes to strengthening them morally and promote ethical decision-making. Ethical leadership has also been indirectly shown to influence employees' thoughts through the positive influence the leader has when it comes to building an ethical culture in the organization. This study investigates the authentic transformative leadership`s direct impact on the auditors’ ethical decisions and actions, as well as the leadership´s impact associated with an ethical culture. Method: For this study we have conducted a survey by sending out questionnaires to 1,000 approved and certified public accountants of FAR's membership. The collected data were processed and analyzed using SPSS Statistics. The results of the statistical analyses are reported in separate tables. Results & Conclusions: The results indicate that the authentic transformative leadership has a positive effect on the ethical culture, which in turn has a positive effect on objectivity. The results further show no relationship to indicate that an authentic transformational leadership or an ethical culture would have a positive impact on the auditors' actions in terms of quality-reducing actions, RAQ acts. Suggestions for future research: Replication of the study in a larger sample with complementary personal interviews to show the additional aspects of personality factors in addition. Contribution of the thesis: The study contributes to knowledge about how an authentic transformational leadership within the audit firm can influence the auditors' objectivity and actions. This can be useful for auditing firms to pay attention to the lack of confidence that society currently has for auditors. Full textThe purpose of this thesis has been to explore how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the leadership and the direction of the organization. The Covid-19 pandemic has affected various parts of the leadership. The results clearly indicate that managers feel overloaded since they have to handle a lot of administrative tasks and alternating meetings. Due to lack of time and balance between work and private life, the ability to have a holistic view, interpret and take in perspectives from outside-in and inside-out has been a challenge for the leaders. The results also indicated the need for clear communication between the leaders and the employees and their customers about what actions are required in order to adapt to the new situation that the pandemic has imposed. During the pandemic the organizations were forced to take fast action based on the regulations and restrictions from the Public Health Agency and the government. Established digital channels were used but new digital channels had to be identified to create interaction and relations within the organization and with the customers. The fast transformation to the digital world has affected the direction of the organization to think differently and be more flexible and adaptable to new unexpected changes, such as the pandemic. The organizations have used key indicators to identify and get a clear picture of how the pandemic has affected the direction of the organization internally and externally towards its customers. This new digital transformational shift has also forced the customers to enter new digital platforms and interact online with the organizations. The new digital awareness from the customers has induced new digital requirements and services which in turn have resulted in the need for new digital self-services and a higher and stronger digital competence from the organizations customer service. A contributing discussion to the organizations and to the society is to refer to the concept of profitability as a value-creating effect sustainable over time, connected by three elements: leadership, direction of the organization and customer need.

Full textAccording to previous research strong leadership is based on the ability to motivate, set goals and make competent decisions (Bass, Riggio and Mahwah, 2006). Good leadership is also based on active communication and balanced information flows (Avolio, Gardner, Peterson, Wernsing & Walumbwa, 2008). Without effective communication, leadership is essentially irrelevant and communication is most effective when it leads to shared understanding (Neufeld, Wan & Fang, 2010; Chidambaram & Jones, 1993). The purpose of this study is to highlight the phenomenon of leadership and communication from an everyday perspective. The study examines leadership and leadership communication with employees through a qualitative study based on fifteen interviews with leaders, followed by a thematic analysis. The investigated phenomenon reflects leadership through awareness and leadership communication through authenticity. The study describes the leader's assignment, clarity and sincerity in communication, nurturing of positive culture through engagement and creating value, and the importance of trust and insight in relationships. The study discusses the results with previous research. Furthermore, it discusses a stronger identification combined with organizational values compared to personal values. One conclusion that the study reflect upon is the importance of accurate identification of expectations and to communicate them with sincerity and sensitivity towards employees.
