Abstract:
A smart student attendance system (SSAS) is presented in this paper. The system is divided into two phases: hardware and software. The Hardware phase is implemented based on Arduino's camera while the software phase is achieved by using image processing with face recognition depended on the cross-correlation technique. In comparison with traditional attendance systems, roll call, and sign-in sheet, the proposed system is faster and more reliable (because there is no action needed by a human being who by its nature makes mistakes). At the same time, it is cheaper when compared with other automatic attendance systems. The proposed system provides a faster, cheaper and reachable system for an automatic smart student attendance that monitors and generates attendance report automatically.

Abstract:
Science and technology are experiencing very rapid development, one of them in the field of web applications whose growth has been increasing rapidly. Staffing Department of Universitas Palangka Raya has used applications to manage employee data, one of them is the employee attendance list. However, the management is still not efficient because staff from the staffing department cannot directly enter employee attendance status such as leave, permission, and illness directly on attendance data processors because they have to wait for data retrieval from the electronic attendance machine at the end of the month so that the process of making attendance recapitulation runs slowly. Software development in generating a file of the attendance data of Universitas Palangka Raya employees using the Waterfall software development method. The first step is to carry out a needs analysis of the system created, including library research, data collection, consultation, and design. Based on this analysis, the system design was created that uses Data Flow Diagrams, and Entity Relationship Diagrams, as the system design that will be created. The next step is writing the program code. In writing program code, the programming languages used are HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as interface designs supported by PHP and MySQL programming languages for data storage and exchange. In the next step, testing is done to test the functionality of the application that has been made using the black box method. This software will be a tool to generate files on attendance data for Universitas Palangka Raya employees.

Abstract:
Aim This study's aim was to assess whether the use of Short Message Service (SMS) text reminders sent to patients prior to their dental appointments improved attendance rates for two dentists at a dental access centre in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland. Method Automated SMS text reminders were set up through practice management software at Kirkcaldy Dental Access Centre. Two audits, using a research methodology, were then performed. Failure to attend appointments with the two dentists at 150 consecutive appointments was assessed before and after implementing the SMS text reminders. The null hypothesis that SMS reminders do not improve attendance rates at the dental access centre was tested. The Yates’ corrected chi-square test was applied to the resulting data, with the level for statistical significance set at P<0.05. Results Patients readily accepted the text messages and found them to be non-intrusive. Failed attendance at appointments for the two dentists was reduced from 46/150 (31%) before the SMS text reminders were introduced to 21/150 (14%) after its introduction ( P=0.00088). Thus the use of SMS text reminders resulted in a statistically significant reduction in the number of failed attendances at appointments for the two dentists. Conclusions In this preliminary study, SMS appointment reminders reduced the number of failed appointments significantly. They can provide an automated, non-intrusive, and cost-effective method of improving patient attendance at dental appointments.

Abstract:
The application of biometric recognition in personal authentication enables the growth of this technology to be employed in various domains. The implementation of biometric recognition systems can be based on physical or behavioral characteristics, such as the iris, voice, fingerprint, and face. Currently, the attendance tracking system based on biometric recognition for education sectors is still underutilized, thus providing a good opportunity to carry out interesting research in this area. As evidenced in a typical classroom, educators tend to take the attendance of their students by using conventional methods such as by calling out names or signing off an attendance sheet. Yet, these types of methods are proved to be time consuming and tedious, and sometimes, fraud occurs. As a result, significant progress had been made to mark attendance automatically by making use of biometric recognition. This progress enables a new and more advanced biometric-based attendance system being developed over the past ten years. The setting-up of biometric-based attendance systems requires both software and hardware components. Since the software and hardware sections are too broad to be discussed in one paper, this literature survey only provides an overview of the types of hardware used. Emphasis is then placed on the microcontroller platform, biometric sensor, communication channel, database storage, and other components in order to assist future researchers in designing the hardware part of biometric-based attendance systems.

Abstract:
Pupil absenteeism remains a significant problem for schools across the globe with negative impacts on overall pupil performance being well-documented. Whilst all schools continue to emphasize good attendance, some schools still find it difficult to reach the required average attendance, which in the UK is 96%. A novel approach is proposed to help schools improve attendance that leverages the market target model, which is built on association rule mining and probability theory, to target sessions that are most impactful to overall poor attendance. Tests conducted at Willen Primary School, in Milton Keynes, UK, showed that significant improvements can be made to overall attendance, attendance in the target session, and persistent (chronic) absenteeism, through the use of this approach. The paper concludes by discussing school leadership, research implications, and highlights future work which includes the development of a software program that can be rolled-out to other schools.

Abstract:
Since the issuance of Law No. 6 of 2014 concerning Villages, the process of organizing village government is demanded to be more optimal. The performance of village officials must continue to be improved, in order to provide better services to the community. The work activities of village officials are influenced by the level of attendance and discipline of work schedules and hours. The process of recording data on the presence of village officials needs to be managed properly, because it affects the performance of services to the community. Conventional attendance data recording, is done by affixing a signature to a book or attendance form that is done at work time. Weaknesses of this process, including not knowing exactly the hours of work and hours of return and attendance data is easily manipulated by entrusting signatures to others. Based on these problems, it is proposed to implement a fingerprint-based attendance recording system. The process of recording and preparing attendance reports is supported by software that has been designed to handle attendance data processing, and attendance data reports can be printed directly so that it can produce more accurate information and data. The results of the implementation of a fingerprint-based attendance system were able to improve the discipline of village officials by providing authentic data on complete attendance.

Abstract:
In this article, Genevieve Siegel-Hawley illuminates the challenges and opportunities posed by demographic change in suburban school systems. As expanding student populations stretch the enrollment capacities of existing schools in suburban communities, new schools are built and attendance lines are redrawn. This redistricting process can be used either to foster school diversity or to exacerbate racial isolation. Drawing on data from the U.S. Census, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), and the school district, along with mapping software from Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Siegel-Hawley examines the relationship between overcrowding, racial isolation, and the original, proposed, and final high school attendance zones in a changing suburban district. Findings indicate that school officials responsible for the rezoning process failed to embrace the growing diversity of the school system, choosing instead to solidify extreme patterns of racial isolation within high school attendance areas. The segregative impact of the district's new attendance zones may be subject to legal scrutiny, a consequence that could—and should—discourage other school systems from adopting similarly harmful redistricting policies.

Eigen faces(PCA) approach for face recognition ,The face is an important part of who you are how people identify you. In face recognition there are two types of comparisons verification and identification. There are about 80 nodal points on a human face here are few nodal points that are measured by software that are distance between eyes ,width of the nose, Depth of the eye socket, Check bones, Jaw line and Chin By this method we can take automatic attendance .face recognition is done by projecting new image onto a low dimensional linear “face space” defined by the Eigen faces. This method is reliable , low cost , faster access and reduce man power.

Abstract:
Background Globally, about 810 women die every day due to pregnancy and its related complications. Although the death of women during pregnancy or childbirth has declined from 342 deaths to 211 deaths per 100,000 live births between 2000 and 2017, maternal mortality is still higher, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, where 86% of all deaths occur. Methods A secondary analysis was carried out using the 2014 Ghana Demographic and Health Survey. A sample total of 4,290 women who had a live birth in the 5 years preceding the survey was included in the analysis. GIS software was used to explore the spatial distribution of unskilled birth attendance in Ghana. The Geographic Weighted Regression (GWR) was employed to model the spatial relationship of some predictor of unskilled birth attendance. Moreover, a multilevel binary logistic regression model was fitted to identify factors associated with unskilled birth attendance. Results In this study, unskilled birth attendance had spatial variations across the country. The hotspot, cluster and outlier analysis identified the concerned districts in the north-eastern part of Ghana. The GWR analysis identified different predictors of unskilled birth attendance across districts of Ghana. In the multilevel analysis, mothers with no education, no health insurance coverage, and mothers from households with lower wealth status had higher odds of unskilled birth attendance. Being multi and grand multiparous, perception of distance from the health facility as not a big problem, urban residence, women residing in communities with medium and higher poverty level had lower odds of unskilled birth attendance. Conclusion Unskilled birth attendance had spatial variations across the country. Areas with high levels of unskilled birth attendance had mothers who had no formal education, not health insured, mothers from poor households and communities, primiparous women, mothers from remote and border districts could get special attention in terms of allocation of resources including skilled human power, and improved access to health facilities.

Abstract:
Along with the development of communication technology, and information system, more and more also made the attendance system, and academic information. The development of a more modern absentee system with respect to the honesty side needs to be built as a substitute for manual absence using paper. Attendance system is at once can be a new standard on attendance system in Education environment. The choice of fingerprint attendance system based on communication technology in the form of SMS is because it is more practical, cheap, and efficient to convey information. Parents do not have to bother anymore come to school just to know the presence or absence of his son / daughter. In the implementation of this application, in the early stages of the user must register their identity by using the application program absenteeism built with PHP programming language, to further stored the absence data into the database My SQL which has integrated SMS Gateway through the SMS sending software that is Gammu. In addition with SMS Gateway technology, parents will be easier to obtain information on the presence of his son / daughter. From the student side, it is hoped that it will foster discipline attitude in time because indirectly this application will grow the mental attitude on time to the students, and it is expected that this application can fix any deficiencies in attendance application that has been implemented earlier.

Abstract:
Previous researches show, that social investments in early childhood (until age of 6) are very important, and one of the main types of social investment in this period of time is quality early childhood education and care services (henceforth – ECEC services). Social investments in early childhood have the highest return in human capital, especially for disadvantaged groups of the society. Literature suggests that positive effect of available and qualitative ECEC services can be observed in many areas of life, for example, through improved education indicators, increased participation of the women in the labour market, increased work productivity, higher birth rates, etc. However, the attendance of ECEC services varies considerably between different European Union (henceforth – EU) countries. The aim of this paper is to analyze social investment effect in early childhood in EU countries with high (Denmark), medium (Latvia) and low (Croatia) ECEC service attendance rates, so to find out if and how ECEC service attendance rate in these countries influences such indicators as rate of early leavers from education and training, school graduation rates and female employment rate. To see how situation may change due to the ECEC attendance rate changes in each country analyses was be carried out with imitation model options. This article describes the imitation model, which provides an opportunity to analyze the current situation and compare social investments between different EU countries. The model is designed using ISEE system STELLA MODELING and Imitation Software environment, and it is governed by the criteria that are based on literature studies, as well as analyses of statistic data. An additional benefit is that this model can be adjusted and used to evaluate other countries social investment tendencies as well. Research results show, that not all indicators that have been positively connected with ECEC attendance rate in previous studies have been positively influenced by ECEC attendance rate in chosen case study countries. Analyses showed that only in Croatia positive connections can be observed when it comes to all three indicators. Further studies should be carried out on this topic to get a deeper understanding on ECEC attendance rate effect on these and other indicators, that in the previous studies have been positively linked with ECEC attendance rate.

Abstract:
In the present age, we are in need of fully automated attendance logging system. The design of Remote Attendance Logging System and its control is a challenging part. RFID reader reads the RFID tag, and the details of the tag is logged in the embedded system. The Web based distributed measurement and control is slowly replacing parallel architectures due to its non-crate architecture which reduces complexities. A new kind of expandable, distributed large attendance logging system based on ARM Cortex M3 boards has been investigated and developed in this paper, whose hardware boards use 32-bit RISC processor with wifi dongle attached to its USB port, and software platform use Keil MDK-ARM for firmware and HTML for man machine interface. This system can display date and time of log in and log out of a person. The data can be displayed on web pages at different geographical locations, and at the same time can be transmitted to a Remote Data Acquisition System by using HTTP protocol. The embedded board can act as a central CPU to communicate between web servers automatically.

Abstract:
Attendance documentation is a crucial metric for determining a student's dedication, qualification, and status. Several types of systems have been developed for automated attendance. The majority of these implementations were built on a single factor template, representing a line of security error. In recent years, rapid development has taken place in several applications such as authorization, data access, and access control by implementing biometrics and radio frequency identification technologies. This research work focuses on designing a smart protocol for RFID authentication in combination with fingerprint biometric information, which guarantees confidentiality, identity verification, and data protection. Reaction time and event performance evaluation were the tests performed on the system. Ten students with unique fingerprints and RFID cards are assessed for the test. The test results show an average duration of 20.61 respective seconds for each student, and zero percent of false refusal rate was recorded in the implementation. Finally, the result shows the system is reliable and efficient. Each result revealed high-speed performance due to software and hardware coordination. Biometric systems provided data integrity and security, RFID provided limited complexity, and the proposed method's technical programming pattern provided an average run time.

Abstract:
Attendance can be said to be a presence data collection that is part of reporting activities that exist within an institution. A company requires a policy, especially the level of employee discipline. Discipline from employees is the main benchmark in seeing employee performance based on his presence in the company. A company must have a staff attendance system that can manage employee attendance based on obligations, prohibitions, and sanctions if an employee's obligations are not obeyed or violated. The problem that often occurs at the Bandung Central Statistics Agency is when employees are assigned to take a business trip, often the employee does not attend first to the office. By applying the Rapid Application Development (RAD) method, a method of software development with an object-oriented approach to system development, this method shorten the time in planning, designing, and implementing a system compared to traditional methods. Then the Location Based Service (LBS) method is used to access geographical information services used by users with mobile phone devices through cellular network connections to map locations to determine where the location of the user is. Thus, the existence of this research can help companies and employees in performing their performance without being bothered by pressure of workload.

The teaching and learning process in lectures is very much determined by the presence of students and lecturers. There are regulations made by lecturers and agreed upon by students so that there is discipline and comfort in the learning atmosphere. One of the causes of lack of discipline in the classroom is that there is a delay in students in attending lectures, this makes the learning atmosphere less comfortable because the concentration of other students is disturbed. From this problem the writer is interested in conducting research by raising the title "analysis of student attendance factors on the teaching and learning process using the principle component analysis method. The research method used is by conducting preliminary research, formulating problems and processing data using SPSS software, then by testing the barttley test. The results of this study are expected to be able to find out the variables causing the low attendance of students, so that lecturers can make regulations that are more assertive and agreed upon by students

English learners (ELs) in K–12 schools must acquire English while simultaneously mastering content knowledge. Educational technology may support students’ learning through the affordance of individualized language practice. The current randomized controlled trial intervention study examined the effects of Rosetta Stone Foundations software on English learning among middle school ELs. The study took place in Grades 6 to 8 of an urban U.S. school district ( N = 221). Predictors of interest included time of testing (pretest vs. posttest) and software usage, and covariates included grade level, sex, and attendance. Additionally, socioeconomic status and home language were accounted for due to sample homogeneity. Multilevel models indicated that treatment group students showed larger gains than control group students on oral/aural outcomes. These results indicate that the software intervention enables individualized practice that can produce proficiency-related gains over and above the typical classroom curriculum.

Abstract:
This research work addresses the issue of incorporating an automatic attendance system to the frame of an institution using face detection and recognition techniques. The proposed system aims at reducing computational time with available hardware to yield more efficient results. The proposed model utilizes Histogram Oriented Gradients and facial encodings derived from facial landmarks. It also addresses the problems related to accuracy of facial recognition and the resource requirement for quick, real-time facial recognition by applying multi-processing. The improvement in performance in terms of accuracy across two different methods, and the improvement in terms of time requirement for the same method using different strategies have also been documented for demonstration. The designed system demonstrates the effectiveness of task parallelization with a minimum amount of hardware desiderata. The system has been designed to an optimum self-sustaining ecosystem which can efficiently operate on its own accord and compute comprehensible feedback without the requirement of any third-party human interference. A Graphical User Interface has been incorporated into the system for maximum user comprehensibility
