Abstract:
Attachment parenting is an increasingly popular style of childrearing that emphasises natural activities such as extended breastfeeding, bedsharing and babywearing. Such parenting activities are framed as the key to addressing a variety of social ills. Parents choices are thus made deeply significant with the potential to guarantee the well-being of future societies. Examining black mothers' engagements with attachment parenting, the book shows the limitations of this neoliberal approach. Unique in its intersectional analysis of contemporary mothering ideologies, the book fills a gap in the literature on parenting culture studies, drawing on black feminist theorizing to analyse intensive mothering practices and policies.

Abstract:
Theory and research support a developmental model of hope, wherein hope is formed in the context of secure attachment to supportive parents in childhood. This chapter reviews the literature and articulates the many biopsychosocial processes involved in instilling a secure attachment style and the hopeful cognitive processes that go with it. In so doing, it highlights the critical balance between exploratory and attachment systems, with the need for approach-oriented goal pursuits on the one side and having a secure base to retreat to on the other. It demonstrates how both functions (exploration and attachment/proximity-seeking) are needed for hope to flourish and highlights key elements needed for use in resiliency and intervention efforts as well as for research on developmental positive psychology.

Abstract:
Attachment theory suggests that early relationships with significant others play a critical role in later interpersonal relationships. Attachment styles have a significant impact on social functioning. Since personality disorders are characterized by abnormal social-interpersonal functioning, it is surprising that attachment abnormalities in personality disorders remain mostly unexplored. This chapter describes definitions and measures of attachment and briefly reviews the neurobiology of attachment. Then it describes the evidence demonstrating abnormalities in attachment in personality disorders. Finally, the psychotherapeutic implications of different attachment styles are reviewed and attachment-focused treatments for personality disorders are described. A conclusion and future directions end the chapter.

Abstract:
This collection examines Bowen’s contribution to and place in twentieth-century literature through a re-evaluation of the ways her work can be seen as textually, politically, and theoretically ‘new’ by focusing on her engagements with processes of theory and thought, and the frequent attachment of these to ‘things.’ It presents new scholarship on Bowen’s inventiveness and uniqueness of style and fresh readings of her place in twentieth-century literature and history in order to rejuvenate and develop scholarship regarding an author consistently overshadowed by her contemporaries.
