Abstract:
In 2019, Dolby Atmos Music launched on Tidal HiFi and Amazon Prime Music HD, integrating 3D sound with music streaming services for the first time. This is one of several recent incursions by popular music into immersive and interactive mediums, which also includes technologies such as virtual reality and 360-degree video. As immersive productions become more normal in popular music, they are increasingly critical to examine. How are aesthetic features of pop compositions altered or maintained in these productions? And how do these different spatial mediums affect compositional design, subject positioning, artists’ performativity, and staging? This article aims to address these questions by presenting a model for 3D music analysis that relates various notions of music technology and production to musicological concepts on performance environment, staging, and subject position. This model is then demonstrated in a hermeneutic close reading of the song ‘Blinding Lights’ by R&B superstar The Weeknd, which was released in both stereo and Dolby Atmos mediums in 2019. The goal of the analysis is to demonstrate some of the ways different mediums impinge on various interpretive stances and the relationship between the performer and listener in immersive popular music.

Abstract:
From the inception of sync sound in the late 1920s to the modern day, sound in animation has assumed a variety of forms. This article proposes four principal modes that have developed in the commercial realm of American animation according to changing contingencies of convention, technology and funding. The various modes are termed syncretic, zip-crash, functional and poetic authentication. Each one is utilized to different aesthetic effect, with changing relationships to the image. The use of voice, music, sound effects and atmos are considered as well as the ways in which they are recorded, manipulated and mixed. Additionally, the ways in which conventions bleed from one period to the next are also illustrated. Collectively, these proposed categories aid in understanding the history and creative range of options available to animators beyond the visual realm.

Abstract:

In the present society technological innovations are playing significant role in every phase of human life, human interaction with machines has become essential in service sector. In the past a number of efforts have been made in the literature of service marketing to understand how companies can better deliver their services with the help of self-service technology. In this present situation companies have many possibilities to realize service offerings with huge investments in self-service technologies, as the technology became the driving force to service the customers effectively and helpful in delivering the services.

Nowadays it become challenging for the companies to serve customers effectively with in a prescribed time providing the right products with lower cost. To get rid of this issue most of the organizations are showing interest to employ self-service technologies (Like ATMs, ticket vending machines, online auctions, etc..,). The purpose of the thesis can be traced to the fact that a large part of the service sector is changing from personnel-based delivery to technology-based self-service. The theoretical problem of the present study is to concentrate on service marketing and service quality in order to provide a better understanding of customers’ attitudes and preferences towards technology-based self-services (ATMs).

So far many researchers have addressed customers’ attitudes towards the technology-based self-service delivery from a service quality perspective. The present paper on service quality and self-service based on technology concerns of expected use rather than actual use and customers expectations about new self-service technologies. To reach the purpose we conducted a pilot case study to know the customers attitudes towards technology (speed, accuracy, ease of use, privacy) using ATMs and their perception towards self-service technologies. For date collection we did 26 open interviews and 150 interviews with the help of questionnaire and the data analysis is based on both qualitative and quantitative methods, supported by the qualitative information and literature reviews. Finally in terms of important findings: easy of use, speed, control and accuracy are the main attributes for service quality and customer satisfaction.

Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to provide a methodological approach for conducting a Business Case Analysis (BCA) for the Advanced Technology Ordnance Surveillance (ATOS) Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration (ACTD). This study compares the cost savings over time of having an ATOS infrastructure in place at Navy Munitions Management locations compared to the base case of "as-is" inventory management. ATOS is a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)-based automated system that provides a capability to collect environmental data in near real-time and supports munitions management tasks on stored munitions pallets. This type of data has never before being available and is critical for making more precise decisions about the shelf life and operational performance of individual munitions throughout their service life. ATOS is not meant to be a replacement for the status quo processes of Ordnance Management (OM). Instead, ATOS is meant to enhance many of the current processes and add additional capabilities and dimensions to OM. A Business Case Analysis for a notional site, using exemplar data sets indicates that with an initial investment of 1.3 million dollars, a Net Present Value (NPV) of 5.3 million dollars can be obtained over a 10-year period. The payback period is less than one year, and the Return on Investment is 214 %, or almost 11 % annual, compounded ROI.

Bigelow, Alan W. "Energy Distribution of Sputtered Neutral Atoms from a Multilayer Target." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2000. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc2657/.

Full text
Abstract:
Energy distribution measurements of sputtered neutral particles contribute to the general knowledge of sputtering, a common technique for surface analysis. In this work emphasis was placed on the measurement of energy distribution of sputtered neutral atoms from different depths. The liquid Ga-In eutectic alloy as a sample target for this study was ideal due to an extreme concentration ratio gradient between the top two monolayers. In pursuing this study, the method of sputter-initiated resonance ionization spectroscopy (SIRIS) was utilized. SIRIS employs a pulsed ion beam to initiate sputtering and tunable dye lasers for resonance ionization. Observation of the energy distribution was achieved with a position-sensitive detector. The principle behind the detector's energy resolution is time of flight (TOF) spectroscopy. For this specific detector, programmed time intervals between the sputtering pulse at the target and the ionizing laser pulse provided information leading to the energy distribution of the secondary neutral particles. This experiment contributes data for energy distributions of sputtered neutral particles to the experimental database, required by theoretical models and computer simulations for the sputtering phenomenon.

Perrin, Isadora. "Développement expérimental d’un capteur inertiel multi-axe à atomes froids hybride embarquable." Thesis, Sorbonne université, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019SORUS326.

Full text
Abstract:
This work focuses on the development of a cold-atom inertial sensor measuring the gravity, the vertical gravity gradient and the horizontal acceleration, by choosing technologies enabling to obtain an onboard and hybrid inertial sensor. The experimental setup generates a cold atom cloud of 87Rb, allows vertical et horizontal interferometry sequences using retroreflected contrapropagating stimulated Raman transitions, and allows a maximum free fall distance of 20 cm. The sensitivity obtained for the measurement of the gravity is 68 microGal/VHz and the optimal resolution reached 1,4 microGal after 6000 s of integration. The four-pulses interferometry sequence has been used for the measurement of the vertical gravity gradient. The sensitivity and the systematics have been studied. Our measurement, extrapolated with a sensor allowing 1 meter free fall and limited by quantum projection noise, could reach a sensitivity of 13 E/VHz, competitive with state of the-art. This method could be used for the measurement of rotations in an onboard inertiel sensor. A measurement of horizontal acceleration using simple diffraction interferometer with horizontal retroreflected contrapropagation stimulated Raman transitions. To lift the degeneracy of the two Raman transitions in the horizontal axis with zero-velocity atoms, we chirp the frequency of the Raman beam. It allows us to realize a Mach-Zehnder atom interferometer to measure the horizontal acceleration

Abstract:
The Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) is a hyperspectral instrument with 2378 channels. It is a part of the Aqua space platform equipment. It registers outgoing longwave radiation in the IR-band from 3.74 to 15.4 microns. To correctly retrieve the atmospheric profiles in the presence of cloud structures, AIRS measurement processing scheme uses data from the 15-channel AMSU-A microwave instrument, which is also installed on Aqua. The paper proposes a technology for synthesizing the readings of AMSU-A, that failed in the fall of 2015, by using observations from the 22-channel radiometer of the Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS) installed on Suomi-NPP and NOAA-20 satellites. These platforms were launched in 2011 and 2018, respectively. The transition between the coordinate grids of the two instruments was implemented by the “resample” software library, which transferred the radiance temperature values obtained by ATMS radiometer to the AMSU-A irregular measurement grid by means of a Gaussian function. The method was tested for the Aqua and Suomi-NPP neighboring orbits of 2015, when AMSU-A was still operating normally. It is established that the root-mean-square deviation of the radiance temperature values during the transferring of ATMS data to the AMSU-A coordinate grid does not exceed 1%, and the correlation coefficient is 0.98. Using the synthesized AMSU-A readings, reconstructions of the parameters of the atmosphere and the underlying surface were carried out. The analysis of the obtained results showed the suitability of the proposed method of replacing the microwave data from AMSU by the data from ATMS instruments. It should be noted that in the case of a rapidly changing atmosphere, for example, with a strong wind, the use of ATMS observations is possible only if the difference in the passage time of the two satellites does not exceed 10–15 minutes.

Abstract:
Thus it was established that ion bombardment of silicon surface in the energy region of the threshold of elastic displacement of atoms might allow to improve structural characteristics of surface lavers and to decrease the relaxation time. Energy dependencies of radiation induced processes show a possibility to improve the real staicture of Silicon surface and to accelerate the long-term surface relaxation in microelectronic technology.

Abstract:
While hydrogen is emerging as a clean alternative automotive fuel and energy storage medium, there are still numerous challenges to implementation, such as the economy of hydrogen production and deployment, expensive storage materials, energy intensive compression or liquefaction processes, and limited trial applications. Synthetic ammonia production, on the other hand, has been available on an industrial scale for nearly a century. Ammonia is one of the most-traded commodities globally and the second most-produced synthetic chemical after sulfuric acid. As an energy carrier, it enables effective hydrogen storage in chemical form by binding hydrogen atoms to atmospheric nitrogen. While ammonia as a fuel is still in its infancy, its unique properties render it as a potentially viable candidate for decarbonizing the automotive industry. Yet, lack of regulation and standards for automotive applications, technology readiness, and reliance on natural gas for both hydrogen feedstocks to generate the ammonia and facilitate hydrogen and nitrogen conversion into liquid ammonia add extra uncertainty to use scenarios. Unsettled Issues Concerning the Use of Green Ammonia Fuel in Ground Vehicles brings together collected knowledge on current and future prospects for the application of ammonia in ground vehicles, including the technological and regulatory challenges for this new type of clean fuel.

Abstract:
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has approximately 500 digital cameras along highways in populated areas of Indiana. These cameras are used to monitor traffic conditions around the clock, all year round. Currently, the videos from these cameras are observed one-by-one by human operators looking for traffic conditions and incidents. The main objective of this research was to develop an automatic, real-time system to monitor traffic conditions and detect incidents automatically. The Transportation and Autonomous Systems Institute (TASI) of the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and the Traffic Management Center of INDOT developed a system that monitors the traffic conditions based on the INDOT CCTV video feeds. The proposed system performs traffic flow estimation, incident detection, and classification of vehicles involved in an incident. The research team designed the system, including the hardware and software components added to the existing INDOT CCTV system; the relationship between the added system and the currently existing INDOT system; the database structure for traffic data extracted from the videos; and a user-friendly, web-based server for showing the incident locations automatically. The specific work in this project includes vehicle-detection, road boundary detection, lane detection, vehicle count over time, flow-rate detection, traffic condition detection, database development, web-based graphical user interface (GUI), and a hardware specification study. The preliminary prototype of some system components has been implemented in the Development of Automated Incident Detection System Using Existing ATMS CCT (SPR-4305).
