Abstract:
Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases worldwide with an estimated 300 million affected individuals. Grading of asthma based on clinical presentation is going from acute severe asthma over life threatening asthma to near fatal asthma There are only a few diagnostic methods that we can use for patients with severe form of asthma because. This is because of severity of disease which disables them to complete usually used diagnostic tests. Treatment of patients with severe form of asthma is difficult. Today we have precisely defined criteria for hospital admission, so we will not waste time to decide whether patient is of general ward, high dependence unit or intensive care unit. Thanks to latest GINA recommendations we updated about treatment procedures for each patient based on severity of disease. It is extremely important to choose adequate therapy as soon as possible, because we do not have big margin for an error. Therapy should be based on latest GINA recommendation.

Abstract:
The science of Ayurveda has its base in the darshanas. Ayurveda adopts the theories from darshanas with necessary modifications so as to suit its practical utility. Vaada is the methodology of discussion proposed by darshanas. Indian philosophers used vaada to unveil the unknown from known and Ayurveda utilises all the available philosophies according to the context to justify its aim i.e to prevent and cure diseases. Vivartavaada is the theory of causation propounded by Vedantha. Vivartavaada and its concepts being pure philosophical cannot be as such applied in Ayurveda as it is a practical science, but the concepts of avidya, maya, adhyasa, and athma that it upholds is an integral part of Ayurveda as it is a holistic science involving both the body and the mind. This article briefly discusses the concepts postulated in Vivarthavaada and its implications in swastha, rogi and chikitsa.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Introduction: Poor control of asthma can reduce the quality of life of asthma patients. Doing breathing exercises and regular physical exercise can increase asthma control. Exercises that can be done are a combination of Buteyko breathing techniques and walking exercises. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of a combination of Buteyko breathing techniques and walking exercises on athma control. Methods: The design of this study was quasi experimental with pretest-posttest control group design. The location of the study was in the pulmonary clinic of Regional General Hospital of Sidoarjo Regency and Bangil Regional General Hospital in Pasuruan Regency, East Java. Respondents were selected by randomization by simple random sampling. Respondents in this study amounted to 76 respondents. Asthma control were measured using Asthma Control Test. The intervention group was given a combination exercise with Buteyko breathing technique and walking exercise for 8 weeks, 3x per week, 55 minutes every training session. Giving a combination of Buteyko breathing technique and walking exercises using module and video media. Asthma control measurements were carried out 3 times (pre test, week 4, week 8). Data were analyzed using SPSS 22 with GLM-RM (General Linear Model-Repeated Measure) ANOVA. Result: The research results showed a significant difference in the astma control value between before and after 4 weeks and 8 weeks of the intervention in the treatment group with p = 0.000(p <0.05). Discussion:The combination of Buteyko breathing techniques and walking exercise increase asthma control through the mechanism of increasing CO2 and producing nitric oxide which has bronchodilation effects and through decreasing inflammatory mediators so that it can reduce asthma symptoms. This exercise can be used as an alternative choice in supporting pharmacological therapy to improve asthma control.

Abstract:
The present study was carried out in Ahmedabad district of Gujarat State. From the ten talukas of Ahmedabad district, four talukas were selected on the basis of maximum number of Farmer Interest Group (FIG’s) functioning under ATMA. Five villages were randomly selected from each taluka. Thus, total 20 villages were selected. Ten respondents were selected from each village. Thus, total 200 respondents were selected randomly from four talukas. A standardized scale to measure the perceived effectiveness of ATMA was developed by using the Normalized Rank Order Method recommended by Guilford (1954). The scale consists of ten indicators namely attitude of beneficiary farmers toward ATMA, benefits derived from ATMA, task functions of ATMA, organization of extension activities, quality training, innovative ideas implementation, performance of FIG, demonstrations and its horizontal spread, technical capability of ATMA personnel and performance of farm school. As far as various indicators of perceived effectiveness of ATMA are concerned majority of ATMA participants had perceived favorable attitude towards ATMA having high benefits derived from ATMA with fair to good perception about task functions of ATMA having excellent perception regarding organized extension activities by ATMA with good perceived quality of training but fair perception about innovative ideas implemented from ATMA and had good perceived performance of FIG with high level of perception about demonstrations and its horizontal spread and were having good perception about technical capabilities of ATMA personnel as well as performance of farm school. Input delivery for demonstration is not timely, farm school activities are inadequate, insufficient out state exposure visit and tight schedule of farming were the major constraints experienced by the ATMA participants in deriving benefits.

U ovoj doktorskoj disertaciji izloženi su rezultati analize eksperimentalno i teorijski dobijene raspodele gustine naelektrisanja dva derivata tiosemikarbazida, 4-metil-3-tiosemikarbazida (MeTSC) i 4-metil-3-tiosemikarbazon 2-piridinformamida (TSC4).
In this dissertation the analysis of the experimental and theoretically obtained electron  density of two derivatives of thiosemicarbasides, 4-methyl-3-thiosemicarbaside (MeTSC) and 4-methyl-3-thiosemikabazone 2-piridinformamide (TSC4) are presented.  The analysis of experimentally obtained electron density is based on  accurate X-ray diffraction data of high resolution. Theoretically calculated electron densities are obtained from periodic quantum mechanical calculation using CRYSTAL09 and the accurate structural parameters from high resolution X-ray experiment. For the description of the theoretical and experimental electron density the Hansen-Coppens multipol model was used. Further topological analysis of chemical bonds and interactions was performed in order to explain the electrostatic properties of sulfur. In this work it has been observed that in the experimentally obtained electron density of the MeTSC and TSC4 crystal structures, the deformational electron density of sulfur free electron pairs forms a toroidal shape. Further, this torus is not homogeneously filled but shows pronounced local accumulations and its position can be either orthogonal (like in SalTSC) or tilted (MeTSC, TSC4). Based on the distribution of the deformational electron  density and electrostatic potential, as well as the topological analysis of the total electron density ρktv and its Laplasian ∇2ρktv it can be concluded that the S atom has a remarkable flexibility and ability to adapt his deformation electron density of free electron pairs into toruses corresponding to the position of donor groups surrounding him. In the crystal structures of MeTSC and TSC4 it was determined that the S atom participates in four and six interactions, respectively. In order to supplement  the experimentally obtained results a theoretically calculated electron density of both molecules (MeTSC and TSC4) was performed and the properties of the S atom as a hydrogen acceptor have been studied. The analysis was  performed on systems of various complexity, starting with isolated monomers, then on  dimers and up to the whole crystal packing. From this work it has been concluded that  the acceptor capabilities of the S atom are not diminished with the increasing number  of interactions.    The hydrogen bonding involving thioureido S acceptor is also investigated in terms of the energetic properties of the MeTSC and TSC4 dimers existing in the crystal structure, and additional MeTSC/MeOH and acetone/MeOH systems. Energetic features were thoroughly studied through electrostatic interactions energies (Ees) and  cohesive energies (Ecoh). For two selected MeTSC/MeOH and acetone/MeOH systems an ab initio approach employing the coupled-cluster singles and doubles augmented by a perturbational correction for connected triple excitations (CCSD(T)) method were applied. Finaly, for MeTSC/MeOH system full geometry optimization was  performed and for resulting equilibrium geometry the energy of the system (∆ECCSD(T),CBS) was calculated.

Hoffmann, Alex. "Simulating organization of convective cloud fields and interactions with the surface." Thesis, University of Cambridge, 2013. https://www.repository.cam.ac.uk/handle/1810/245211.

Full text
Abstract:
The mesoscale organization and structure of convective clouds is thought to be rooted in the thermodynamic properties of the atmosphere and in the turbulent to mesoscale dynamics of the flow. Such structure may contribute to the transition between shallow and deep convection. The thermodynamic state of the boundary layer is forced by the amount of surface fluxes from below. Conversely, landscape patterns and land-cover heterogeneity may equally give rise to focused regions for deep convection triggering, in particular when patch sizes exceed 10 km. Since the convective boundary layer has a mediating function between the surface and deep storm clouds, the connection between surface and upper atmosphere is not straightforward. It is generally believed to involve local erosion of the capping inversion layer, the build-up of a moist energy supply, gradual humidification of the lower-free troposphere that reduces dry air entrainment into burgeoning deeper clouds, and thermal mesoscale circulations that can generate moisture convergence and locally forced ascent. To what extent microscale realistic surface heterogeneity and an interactive surface response matter to shallow and deep convection and its organization remains an open question. In this dissertation, we describe the coupling of a physiology-based vegetation model (HYBRID) and of a sea surface flux algorithm (COARE) to the cloud-resolving Active Tracer High-resolution Atmospheric Model (ATHAM). We investigate the full diurnal cycle of convection based on the example of the Hector storm over Tiwi Islands, notably the well-characterized event on 30th November 2005. The model performs well in terms of timing and cloud dynamics in comparison to a range of available observations. Also, ATHAM-HYBRID seems to do well in terms of flux partitioning. Whilst awaiting more thorough flux validation, we remain confident that the interactive surface response of both HYBRID and COARE is suited for the purpose of simulating convective-scale processes. We find the storm system evolution in 3D simulations to be robust with respect to differences in surface configuration and initialization. Within our 3D sensitivity runs, we could not identify a strong dependence on either realistic surface heterogeneity in the island landscape or on the interactive surface response. We conclude that in our case study at least, atmospheric (turbulent) dynamics likely dominate over surface heterogeneity effects, provided that the bulk magnitude of the surface energy fluxes, and their partitioning into sensible and latent heat (Bowen ratio), remain unaltered. This is consistent with 2D sensitivity studies, where we find model grid-spacing and momentum diffusion, governing the dynamics, to have an important influence on the overall evolution of deep convection. Fine grid-spacing is necessary, as the median width of updraught cores mostly does not exceed 1000 m. We associate this influence with the dry air entrainment rate in the wake of rising parcels, and with how resolution and diffusion act on coherent structures in the flow. In 2D sensitivity studies with differences in realistic heterogeneities of surface properties, we find little evidence for a clear deterministic influence of these properties on the transition between shallow and deep convection, in spite of largely different storm evolutions across the various runs. In these runs, we tentatively ascribe triggering to stochastic features in the flow, without discarding the relevance of convergence lines produced by mesoscale density currents, such as the sea breeze and cold pool storm outflows.

Chen, Lewis Wai Man. "Performance evaluation of a modified RACE R2084 ATDMA access system." Thesis, 1998. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/7832.

Full text
Abstract:
The telecommunications industry is experiencing an unprecedented demand for mobile communication services. It is expected that mobile subsribers will increasingly use multimedia services such as data, voice, and video applications. In this thesis, we study the access mechanism (medium access control (MAC) protocol and bandwidth allocation strategy) used in the RACE R2084 Advanced Time Division Multiple Access (ATDMA) system which focuses on the development of a third generation cellular system known as the Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS). In particular, we propose improvements to the ATDMA access mechanism which allow the base station to dynamically assign bandwidth to voice and video services based on their activity levels. The performance of the modified access mechanism is evaluated using the access delay and packet dropping probability experienced by the voice and video services under varying traffic-load conditions. For video service, it is shown that the modified access mechanism can increase the ATDMA system capacity by as much as 45% when compared to the original access mechanism. In supporting voice and video traffic simultaneously, simulation results show that the modified access mechanism can increase the system capacity, in general, while satisfying the QoS requirements for both voice and video services.

This paper aims to explore the Japanese "foot" (ASHI) "head" (ATAMA) of the semantic extension, and with the Chinese "foot" "head" of the semantic extension of the comparative analysis. This paper in addition to exploring the space metaphor of the "foot" and "head" attempts to infer the semantics of the extension process. Out of the way by the corpus sentences, the perspective of cognitive semantics, metaphor theory of reference (metaphor, metonymy, synecdoche )try to analyze. Research results as below: 1.Both in Japanese and Chinese , Foot have the <object the lower part of> ,<slim object> .<last> and other extending meaning. 2. Both in Japanese and Chinese , Head have the <upper object>,<hair>,<thinking>,<first>,<last> and other extending meaning. 3.Head ,the top of the body and the opposite side ,Foot. the bottom of the body.. Not only means the object location in the space , but also extends to reflect the social status. 4.Both in Janpanese and Chinese, we can find the example which is space mapping the time. 5. Semantic Extension which is from concrete to abstract and the embodiment mapping the outside world. But we also can find the “head” also means the “ending” and the other examples in Chinese. It shows language reflect the its own culture and base on daily life reflect their own unique metaphor.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Since its inception in 2007, Atma, an “accelerator” for education NGOs in India, has been providing strategic consulting and capacity building services to non-profits and voluntary organizations in the education sector. This case study traces the journey of Atma, the core strengths of this organization and the support it has provided to the ecosystem of education NGOs in India. Atma has a team of young and qualified professionals, most of whom have made a shift from their corporate careers to the development sector. The case explores this trend and attempts to understand the motivation behind such crossovers. Notably, Atma also runs a volunteering program placing skilled professionals from the private sector into its partner NGOs where their management experience can contribute effectively to the organizational development and growth potential of these partner organizations. The way these partners have benefitted from such a collaboration with Atma draws attention to a critical need of small and mid-size NGOs in India: that of capacity building support to enable them to mobilise their resources and develop capabilities to be able to deal with any roadblocks on their path of development work.
