Abstract:
This work aimed to use abietic acid (AA), as a widely available natural product, as a precursor for the synthesis of two new amphiphilic ionic liquids (AILs) and apply them as effective demulsifiers for water-in-crude oil (W/O) emulsions. AA was esterified using tetraethylene glycol (TEG) in the presence of p-toluene sulfonic acid (PTSA) as a catalyst obtaining the corresponding ester (AATG). AATG was reacted with 1-vinylimidazole (VIM) throughout the Diels–Alder reaction, forming the corresponding adduct (ATI). Following this, ATI was quaternized using alkyl iodides, ethyl iodide (EI), and hexyl iodide (HI) to obtain the corresponding AILs, ATEI-IL, and ATHI-IL, respectively. The chemical structure, surface activity, thermal stability, and relative solubility number (RSN) were investigated using different techniques. The efficiency of ATEI-IL and ATHI-IL to demulsify W/O emulsions in different crude oil: brine volumetric ratios were evaluated. ATEI-IL and ATHI-IL achieved promising results as demulsifiers. Their demulsification efficiency increased as the brine ratios decreased where their efficiency reached 100% at the crude oil: brine ratio (90:10), even at low concentrations.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Drug withdrawal in a psychiatric patient is the cessation of a treatment process before completing the recommended treatment. Kawala Atei Mental Hospital of Central Kalimantan Province has a visit rate with the incidence of patients dropping out of treatment above 50%, from 2019 to June it is known that the number of patients dropping out of treatment there are 172 patients out of 256 patients who visited. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors causing dropouts for outpatient psychiatric patients at Kalawa Atei Mental Hospital in Central Kalimantan in 2019.This type of research is an analytic survey with a cross sectional study design. This study was conducted at the Kalei Atei Mental Hospital in Central Kalimantan in November to December 2019. The population in this study was all families who have family members who experience mental illnesses dropping out of treatment as many as 256 people . The research sample of 78 people using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the chi-square formula and logistic regression. Based on the results of the study, it is known that the factors that influence the incidence of outpatient treatment for outpatient psychiatric patients at the Kalei Atei Mental Hospital in Central Kalimantan in 2019 are economic ability (p = 0.024), distance (p = 0,000), perception (p = 0.012 ), trust (p = 0.001). Based on the results of the study it is suggested that this study can be used as a source of information related to factors that influence the incidence of treatment dropouts for psychiatric patients at the Mental Hospital.

Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the home visite services of people with mental disorders in Kalawa Atei General Hospital in Central Kalimantan Province. Given the implementation of the program for people with mental disorders to access health services whose handling is different from other health services. This study uses a qualitative approach that aims to describe the complexity and dynamics of handling people with mental disorders. The primary data in this study were sourced from several informants, namely Home Visite Officers from Kalawa Atei General Hospital, Social Service and Povinsi / Regency Health Service, local Puskesmas, and Family of Ganguan Mental Panderita. Meanwhile, Secondary Sources in this study include the Implementation of Home Visite Regulation, Home Visite Service Profile, Home Visite Patient Ratio and other related documents. The results of the study show the conclusions of the study that the implementation of home visite services organized by the Central Kalimantan Atei Central Hospital along with other cross sectors has been running quite well. This is seen in terms of the facilities and infrastructure that have been provided in providing home visite services for ODGJs that have been prepared and are maximally sought. Home visite services are in accordance with SOPs, competencies and disciplines of each service officer. Home visite services provide guarantees to each patient with a special schedule by officers to come to the regions to provide these services. In this case, home visite services in terms of empathy by service personnel are good enough. Considering that home viste activities are shown to severely mentally ill patients, who cannot access Kalawa Atei General Hospital for various reasons, such as financial incapacity, no family support, family ignorance, and the existence of savings. However, there are several inhibiting factors in the implementation of the Home Visite Service at Atawa Kalawa Hospital, namely: 1) equipment completeness, 2) field conditions, 3) communication.

Abstract:
In this paper, the effects of blade trailing edge (TE) profile modification of the suction side on the internal flow and hydraulic performance in a low-specific speed centrifugal pump are investigated through particle image velocimetry (PIV) analysis. Three impellers with different blade trailing edge profiles named original trailing edge (OTE), arc trailing edge 1 (ATE1), and arc trailing edge 2 (ATE2) are designed for PIV experiments. Results show that blade trailing edge modification of the suction side can significantly change the flow pattern, affecting the hydraulic performance of the model pumps. There is a definite counterclockwise backflow vortex near the suction side of OTE at deep-low flow rate, resulting in a decrease in the uniformity of the flow field at the outlet and the hydraulic performance. ATE1 with a reasonable larger blade outlet angle has the best flow field, and the head and efficiency are increased by about 1.2% and 8%, respectively under the same working condition. The hydraulic performance of ATE2 with the blade outlet angle of 59° is better than that of OTE under low flow rate, but it is less than that of OTE under high flow rate due to the streamline deviation generated on the pressure side. Meanwhile, the energy conversion abilities of the modified model pumps are evaluated by slip factor and the deviation degree of the nominalized local Euler head distribution (NLEHD). Since there is no definite counterclockwise backflow vortex at the outlet after modification, the slip factor of ATEs increases and the energy conversion ability is enhanced. Moreover, the jet-wake phenomenon of ATEs is weakened, and the local Euler head (LEH) increases near the outlet, decreasing the deviation degree of the NLEHD to obtain better energy conversion ability.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the field of University Pedagogy and specifically the relationship between theory (learning theories university teachers adopt) and practice (actual teaching) in Higher Education Institutions. To this end, we conducted a mixed methodology research (triangulation) by implicating both the students and the university teachers of post graduate programs of the former Alexander Technological Educational Institute–ATEI-of Thessaloniki (current International Hellenic University-IHU). The data collection methods were:7 semi-structured interviews with the teaching staff, student questionnaires (n=98) and non-participatory observation. Results show that teachers’ views about learning and teaching are consistent mostly with person-centered humanistic learning theories and cognitive constructivism. Learning is viewed as a dynamic process revolving around students and their needs. Their student-centered approach and the theories they embrace are consistent with their teaching practice to a satisfactory degree (role, climate, teacher-student relationship, objectives, connection to reality). However, an issue detected is the relatively limited use of the most active teaching techniques.

Dormant Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) seeds do not germinate easily at temperatures higher than 10–15 °C. Using mutants affected in ethylene signaling (etr1, ein2 and ein4) and in the N-end-rule pathway of the proteolysis (prt6 and ate1-ate2) we have investigated the effects of cold and ethylene on dormancy alleviation. Ethylene (10–100 ppm) and 2–4 days chilling (4 °C) strongly stimulate the germination of wild type (Col-0) seeds at 25 °C. Two to four days of chilling promote the germination at 25 °C of all the mutants suggesting that release of dormancy by cold did not require ethylene and did not require the N-end-rule pathway. One mutant (etr1) that did not respond to ethylene did not respond to GA3 either. Mutants affected in the N-end rule (prt6 and ate1-ate2) did not respond to ethylene indicating that also this pathway is required for dormancy alleviation by ethylene; they germinated after chilling and in the presence of GA3. Cold can activate the ethylene signaling pathway since it induced an accumulation of ETR1, EINI4, and EIN2 transcripts, the expression of which was not affected by ethylene and GA3. Both cold followed by 10 h at 25 °C and ethylene downregulated the expression of PRT6, ATE1, ATE2, and of ABI5 involved in ABA signaling as compared to dormant seeds incubated at 25 °C. In opposite, the expression of RGA, GAI, and RGL2 encoding three DELLAs was induced at 4 °C but downregulated in the presence of ethylene.

The emergence of the COVID-19 Virus has attracted global attention, and On January 30 WHO has declared COVID-19 a public health emergency of international concern. The disease caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus has been reported worldwide more than 2 million cases, including more than 120,000 deaths. Meanwhile in Indonesia, according to data from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia in 2020 until March 25, 2020, a total of 414,179 confirmed cases were reported with 18,440 deaths, 4.4% of which cases were reported in 192 countries/regions. Work stress during this pandemic is also experienced by mental nurses who arise from excessive workloads and patient conditions that allow them to attack officers and often the nurse's personal protective equipment is detached so that this affects nurses in terms of nurses' psychology. This study aims to to explore the experience of mental nurses doing self-management in managing stress during the COVID-19 pandemic. Qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with 16 participants at the Kalawa Atei Mental Hospital using a qualitative method with purposive sampling technique. The results of the study found 6 main themes, namely (1) Behavior of ODGJ patients while being treated, (2) The physical response of nurses when treating ODGJ patients with COVID-19, (3) Psychological responses when treating ODGJ with COVID-19, (4) Stress levels when treating ODGJ with COVID-19, (5) How to manage stress when treating ODGJ patients with COVID-19, (6) Successfully managing yourself in overcoming stress when treating ODGJ patients with COVID-19. The conclusion from this study is that nurses need an adaptation in managing stress by self-management in managing stress when providing care to patients.

Abstract The paper is devoted to current issues of locomotive asynchronous traction motor (ATEM) fault detection using neural networks. Developed sophisticated intelligent methods for monitoring and inspecting the technical condition of ATE bearings. Current absorption spectra are analysed to assess the technical condition of the induction bearing units. The mechanical vibration frequencies of a squirrel cage induction motor are presented. The method of artificial neural networks which are universal approximators and can effectively and efficiently solve problems of monitoring and diagnostics of technical condition of locomotive induction traction motors is applied. A neural network model and framework for monitoring the technical condition of ATED bearings has been developed. They are based on rules and user-provided facts to recognise the situation, make a diagnosis, formulate a solution or make a recommendation. The main failures of the bearing units of squirrel cage ATED are analysed. A methodology has been developed to build a neural network model of the ATED. The structure and architecture of the artificial neural network is defined. An experimental research has been conducted. The results enable the determination of bearing faults in asynchronous traction motors with squirrel cage rotor.

Murine rheumatoid arthritis models are often used to investigate the potential therapeutic effects of candidate drugs. The present study has been conducted in order to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of ascidian tunicate extracts in a collagen-induced arthritis DBA1/J mice model. Four types of formulas, ascidian tunicate extracts (ATE), crude ascidian tunicate glycans (ATEC), ascidian tunicate extracts with licorice extracts (ATEL), and crude ascidian tunicate glycans with licorice extracts (ATECL) were orally administered into DBA/1J mice for 3 weeks and paw edema and thickness were evaluated. Changes in inflammatory proteins and cytokines levels were monitored in hind leg tissues by Western blot and quantitative PCR analysis. The oral administration of ascidian tunicate extracts alleviated paw edema and improved the histological hind leg cartilage status. The extracts also reduced the matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) protein and prostaglandin E synthase (PGES) levels. In addition, the extracts-treated groups showed increased interleukin-10 (IL-10) levels compared with the non-treated group. These findings suggest that orally administered ascidian tunicate extracts might have potential therapeutic effects for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.

Os principais estudos e parâmetros utilizados para a elaboração deste trabalho foram os diagnósticos dos serviços prestados e a forma de sua execução, a tipificação dos resíduos sólidos. Este trabalho contou com a colaboração da Prefeitura Municipal de Guaratinguetá, Cooperativa “Amigos do Lixo”, Serviços Autônomos de Água de Guaratinguetá, entre outros profissionais da área. Este estudo gerou conhecimentos sobre a situação atual da gestão de resí-duos sólidos urbanos no município de Guaratinguetá, por meio do diagnóstico situ-acional e da avaliação das oportunidades de melhoria. Verificou-se que para aten-der a política nacional de resíduos sólidos o município precisa adotar a prática da compostagem, que além da viabilidade econômica é vantajosa por agregar valor aos resíduos, gerar novos empregos e, principalmente, por aumentar a vida útil dos ater-ros e melhorar as condições ambientais.

Bambu petung memiliki kuat lentur lebih besar dibandingkan bambu ater dapat meningkatkan nilai MOR dan MOE. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kuat lentur, pengaruh susunan lapisan laminasi, pengaruh penambahan bambu petung pada laminasi bambu ater dari laminasi kombinasi dua jenis bambu. Pengujian kuat lentur papan laminasi berukuran 55 cm x 10 cm x 2 cm yang mengacu pada ASTM D1037-06a dengan beban terpusat ditengah bentang. Papan laminasi terdiri dari 3 variasi susunan, setiap variasi ada 4 lapisan dengan tebal bilah 0,5 cm. Variasi A terdiri dari susunan bambu ater-ater-ater-ater, variasi B terdiri dari bambu petung-ater-petung-ater, variasi C terdiri dari bambu petung-petung-ater-ater. Hasil pengujian kuat lentur papan laminasi didapat nilai rata-rata Modulus of Rupture (MOR) variasi A sebesar 89,462 MPa, variasi B sebesar 96,778 MPa, dan variasi C sebesar 79,173 MPa. Nilai rata-rata Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) variasi A sebesar 13256,830 MPa, variasi B sebesar 14856,552 MPa, dan variasi C sebesar 12981,294 MPa. Susunan variasi B petung-ater-petung-ater dapat meningkatkan nilai Modulus of Rupture dan Modulus of Elasticity.

This study aims to analyze the types of ateji used in Japanese song lyrics, and to analyze ateji as a form of figurative speech by the semantic-semiotic connection between the words used in ateji’s writing and reading. Analysis is done qualitatively based on Shirose’s theory of ateji classification and Japan’s hiyu hyougen (figurative speech) theory. This research resulted in the finding of 4 ateji types in Japanese song lyrics, which are ateji for foreign words pronunciation, ateji for pronouns, ateji for replacing words, and ateji for words used in specific titles/works. The use of metaphor (in’yu), metonymy (kan’yu), and synecdoche (teiyu) are also found between the uses of ateji, based on the relation of the words in said ateji. The words can be linked through contextual relation, conceptual relation, or semantical relation. The connection of the words can also result in similar uses as other figurative speeches not included in Japanese’s hiyu hyougen, which indicated that ateji can be handled and understood as a general form of figurative speech in written Japanese language.

Dalam tulisan ini penulis mefokuskan diri bagaimana sikap Gereja terhadap kaum ateis yang dibahas secara detail dalam Gaudium et Spes 21. Ada pun metodologi yang dipakai berupa kajian kepustakaan berupa buku-buku, jurnal, dokumen KWI, dan media internet. Studi ini menemukan bahwa peran kaum ateis sangatlah penting untuk membangun dunia. Meskipun kaum ateis menolak akan eksistensi Allah namun Gereja dengan penuh kasih merangkul kaum ateis berpartisipasi untuk membangun dunia melalui jasa-jasanya. ABSTRACT The N-end rule relates the in vivo half-life of a protein to the identity of its N-terminal residue. The underlying ubiquitin-dependent proteolytic system, called the N-end rule pathway, is organized hierarchically: N-terminal aspartate and glutamate (and also cysteine in metazoans) are secondary destabilizing residues, in that they function through their conjugation, by arginyl-tRNA-protein transferase (R-transferase), to arginine, a primary destabilizing residue. We isolated cDNA encoding the 516-residue mouse R-transferase, ATE1p, and found two species, termed Ate1-1 and Ate1-2. The Ate1 mRNAs are produced through a most unusual alternative splicing that retains one or the other of the two homologous 129-bp exons, which are adjacent in the mouseAte1 gene. Human ATE1 also contains the alternative 129-bp exons, whereas the plant (Arabidopsis thaliana) and fly (Drosophila melanogaster)Ate1 genes encode a single form of ATE1p. A fusion of ATE1-1p with green fluorescent protein (GFP) is present in both the nucleus and the cytosol, whereas ATE1-2p–GFP is exclusively cytosolic. Mouse ATE1-1p and ATE1-2p were examined by expressing them inate1Δ Saccharomyces cerevisiae in the presence of test substrates that included Asp-βgal (β-galactosidase) and Cys-βgal. Both forms of the mouse R-transferase conferred instability on Asp-βgal (but not on Cys-βgal) through the arginylation of its N-terminal Asp, the ATE1-1p enzyme being more active than ATE1-2p. Tijekom svoje prve europske misije Pavao se je u Filipima i Solunu suočio s ozbiljnim optužbama. Da bi izbjegao sukob s rimskom vlašću, prekinuo je svoju misiju i prije planiranoga odlaska u Korint našao utočište u Ateni. Kao obično, uspostavio je kontakt sa židovskom zajednicom, ali nije propustio priliku da na glavnom trgu kulturnoga središta ondašnjega svijeta iznosi Evanđelje. Atena je u to vrijeme djelovala kao veliki otvoreni muzej prepun religijskih objekata, što je izazvalo Pavlovu ogorčenost zbog mnoštva idola. Svojim svakodnevnim raspravama na agori izazvao je pozornost i filozofski obrazovanih građana. Nekima je bilo čudno spominjanje Isusa i uskrsnuća — shvatili su ih kao nova božanstva. Nakon prijave morao se je opravdati pred Areopagom, koji je bio nadležan za religijska pitanja. Pavao je iskoristio priliku i održao prvu kršćansku apologiju pred dobro informiranim politeistima. Vijeće Areopaga nije našlo ništa sporno, govor je prekinut i nije podignuta nikakva optužnica.

Ateb-based Gabor filter is effective for filtration because it contains generalizations of trigonometric functions. The wavelet transform of Ateb-Gabor function was developed. The function dependence on seven parameters was shown, each of them significantly changes the filtering results of biometric images. The Ateb-Gabor wavelet research was performed. Graphic dependencies of the wavelet Gabor filter and the wavelet Ateb-Gabor filter were constructed. The appliance of wavelet transform makes it possible to reduce the complexity of calculating an Ateb-Gabor filter by simplifying function calculations and reducing filtering time. The complexities of algorithms for calculating the wavelet Gabor filter and the wavelet Ateb-Gabor filter have been evaluated. Ateb-Gabor filtration allows you to adjust the intensity of the entire image, and to change certain ranges, thereby changing certain areas of the image. Biometric images should have this property, on which the minucius should be contrasting and clear. Ateb functions have the property of changing two rational parameters, which will allow to make more flexible control of filtration. The properties of the Ateb function, as well as the possibility of changing the amplitude of the function, the oscillation frequency by the numerical values of the Ateb-Gabor filter, were investigated. By using the parameters of the Ateb function, you can get a much larger range of shapes and sizes, which expands the number of possible filtration options. You can also perform filtration once, taking into account the direction of the minucius and reliably determine the sharpness of the edges, rather than perform filtration many times. The reliability of results were tested using NIST Special Database 302 and good filtration results were shown. This is confirmed by the comparison experiment between the wavelet-Gabor filter and the wavelet Ateb-Gabor function based on the PSNR signal-to-noise ratio measurement.

The essential oil is considered as the active fraction of ATR, and the neuroprotection of ATR essential oil (ATEO) is proven, including the protection against oxidative stress. However, the cellular mechanism of ATEO against oxidative stress has not been fully illustrated. In this study, to investigate the cellular mechanism of ATEO, the cytoprotective effect of ATEO against H2O2-induced injury was revealed in PC12 cells. ATEO treatment increased the viability of cells affected by H2O2-mediated injury, inhibited reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation, and induced the expression of several antioxidant proteins (SODs, GPx, and UCPs). The cytoprotective effect of ATEO was related to upregulation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha (PGC-1α) expression, which was counteracted by PGC-1α specific knockdown. Using inhibitor of protein kinase A (PKA), we found that cAMP-response element binding protein (CREB) activation was involved in ATEO-induced PGC-1α expression. Taken together, we suggest that ATEO effectively prevents H2O2-induced cell injury possibly through the activation of CREB/PGC-1α signaling in PC12 cells. The results provide a molecular insight into the effect of ATEO on cytoprotection against oxidative stress.

Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the richness and potential of macroalgae bioactive compounds on the Atep Oki Coast, District of Minahasa, North Sulawesi Province. This research was conducted in October 2019 until January 2020. Sampling used the roaming method in a predetermined location that is Atep Oki tidal/ intertidal coast. Sampling locations are spread over six coordinate points. Macroalgae found on the Atep Oki Coast assessed ten species belonging to three phyla, namely Chlorophyta (green algae), Ochrophyta (brown algae) and Rhodophyta (red algae). Chlorophyta members mean six species. Ochrophyta has members of three species and members of Rhodophyta only one species. The types of macroalgae found on the Atep Oki Coast provide bioactive compounds. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan metode jelajah di lokasi yang telah ditentukan yaitu pesisir pasang surut/intertidal Atep Oki. Lokasi pengambilan sampel tersebar di enam titik-titik koordinat. Makroalga yang ditemukan di Pesisir Atep Oki berjumlah sepuluh species yang tergolong ke dalam tiga filum yaitu Chlorophyta (alga hijau), Ochrophyta (alga cokelat) dan Rhodophyta (alga merah). Anggota Chlorophyta berjumlah enam species. Ochrophyta memiliki anggota tiga species dan anggota Rhodophyta hanya satu species. Acetyl triethyl citrate (ATEC) is a water-soluble plasticizer used in pharmaceutical plasticized polymers. In this study, the pharmacokinetics and metabolism of ATEC were investigated using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) in rats. Plasma protein precipitation with methanol was used for sample preparation. For chromatographic separation, a C18 column was used. The mobile phases consisted of 0.1% formic acid and 90% acetonitrile, and gradient elution was used. The following precursor-product ion pairs were selected for reaction monitoring analysis: 319.1 m/z → 157 m/z for ATEC and 361.2 m/z → 185.1 m/z for tributyl citrate (internal standard) in positive ion mode. The LC–MS/MS method was fully validated and successfully applied to a pharmacokinetic study of ATEC in rats. The pharmacokinetic study showed that the volume of distribution and mean residence time of ATEC were higher after oral administration than after intravenous administration, pointing to extensive first-pass metabolism and distribution in tissue. In addition, the plasma concentration profile of the postulated metabolites of ATEC was investigated in plasma, urine, and feces. The resulting data indicated that ATEC was extensively metabolized and excreted mainly as metabolites rather than as the parent form. The developed analytical method and the data on the pharmacokinetics and metabolism of ATEC may be useful for understanding the safety and toxicity of ATEC.

Context In order for athletic training students to be successful in any athletic training education program (ATEP), a certain level of commitment to the program and profession is required. Objective The purpose of this study was to explore the applicability of the sport commitment model (SCM) to an ATEP by applying the SCM in an academic setting to predict ATEP students' commitment to an ATEP. Design Cross-sectional, survey. Setting Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education–accredited ATEP. Patients or Other Participants A total of 99 male and female athletic training students participated. Participants ranged in age from 18 to 24 years of age (mean = 20.10 ± 1.28). Intervention(s) Previously validated measures were used to assess students' perceptions of enjoyment, attractive alternatives, investments, social constraints and support, benefits and costs, and commitment to the ATEP. All measures demonstrated adequate reliability for the current sample (Cronbach α = 0.71–0.93). Main Outcome Measure(s) A simultaneous multiple regression was conducted to determine which of the SCM determinants predicted ATEP commitment. An analysis of variance and a multivariate analysis of variance were conducted to compare preservice and first-, second-, and third-year ATEP students on SCM constructs. Results Perceived enjoyment and investments emerged as the significant predictors for ATEP commitment, with higher perceptions of enjoyment and investments predicting higher ATEP commitment. Students of varying academic years differed on their perceptions of ATEP enjoyment, with preservice students reporting higher enjoyment than first- or third-year students, and second-year students reporting higher enjoyment than third-year students. Additionally, preservice students reported significantly higher commitment and benefits, and lower costs and attractive alternatives, than first- and third-year students. Second-year students reported lower perceived costs than first- and third-year students. Conclusions The SCM may provide a theoretical framework in which to predict ATEP students' commitment to the program, as well as behavioral commitment (eg, stay/leave behavior).

Abstract:
Aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) uses groundwater to store energy for heating or cooling purposes in the built environment. This paper presents field and laboratory results aiming to elucidate the effects that ATES operation may have on chemical groundwater quality. Field data from an ATES site in the south of the Netherlands show that ATES results in chemical quality perturbations due to homogenisation of the initially present vertical water quality gradient. We tested this hypothesis by numerical modelling of groundwater flow and coupled SO4 transport during extraction and injection of groundwater by the ATES system. The modelling results confirm that extracting groundwater from an aquifer with a natural quality stratification, mixing this water in the ATES system, and subsequent injection in the second ATES well can adequately describe the observation data. This mixing effect masks any potential temperature effects in typical low temperature ATES systems (<25 °C) which was the reason to complement the field investigations with laboratory experiments focusing on temperature effects. The laboratory experiments indicated that temperature effects until 25 °C are limited; most interestingly was an increase in arsenic concentration. At 60 °C, carbonate precipitation, mobilisation of dissolved oxygen concentration, K and Li, and desorption of trace metals like As can occur.
