Master’s thesis is focused on draft of a corporate financial plan for agricultural cooperative Sněžné. Financial plan is created for period 2020 to 2023. In the first part, a literary research is performed theoretical knowledge related to financial planning, financial and strategic analysis. In the next part, the agricultural cooperative is introduced and analyzed on the basis of individual methods of strategic and financial analysis. The summary of these analyzes is performed by SWOT analysis. In the last part of this master‘s thesis, a financial plan is created in an optimistic and pessimistic variant with 4 years outlook. In the end, the financial plan is one more analyzed and assessmented.

Com vista a apurar a viabilidade económica e financeira da empresa foram utilizados os critérios do VAL, TIR, IRP, PRI e análise de sensibilidade.
Concluiu-se da viabilidade económica e financeira do negócio, apresentando um VAL igual a 34.776.536,46 ECV, para uma taxa de actualização de 11,76%, uma TIR de 51%, um IRP de 2,62 e da recuperação do capital num período inferior a 5 anos. Abstract:
This work studies and evaluates the creation of the Regional Event Organization and Production Company (EROPE6), through the elaboration of a business plan. The plan covers cultural events developed in the six municipalities that make up the northern region of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde.
In order to determine the economic and financial viability of the company, the NPV, IRR, PI, Payback and sensitivity analysis criteria were used.
The economic and financial viability of the business was concluded, with a NPV of 34.776.536,46 ECV, for a discount rate of 11,76%, an IRR of 51%, an PI of 2.62 and a capital recovery in a period of less than 5 years. From the sensitivity analysis it is confirmed that the number of events to be performed is a critical factor.

Magister Economicae - MEconThe research study investigated the potential impact that organisational capacity assessments can have on the long-term sustainability of non-profit organisations (NPOs). The researcher employed longitudinal research design as the main instrument in the collection of data. Data was collected from four local non-profit organisations in the Cullinan and Bronkhorstspruit areas of South Africa. These organisations were evaluated by means of a questionnaire, which was developed by the researcher. NPOs can only play a pivotal role in community and social services if management, leadership, governance and other elements of organisational capacity are well developed and continuously strengthened. This is critical for attracting local and international donors who provide crucial running costs and relieve national, provincial and local government departments of the financial burden. Currently, the South African government supports NPOs in South Africa. The legislative and registration aspects of NPOs are regulated by the NPO Act (Act 71 of 1997) and the Income Tax Act (Act 58 of 1962). The State of South African Registered NPOs Report 2010/2011 indicated a growth of the number of registrations to have increased by 8.3%. However, in the same financial year a total number of 468 NPOs were deregistered; 98% of these lost their registration due to non-compliance of regulatory requirements. According to the State of South African Registered NPOs Report (2016) the total number of applications received for the financial year was 16 726 (53.7%), however 4 421 (46%) did not meet the requirements of sections 12-13 of the NPO Act, an issue that would definitely affect the existence of non-compliant institutions.

Nowdays, the renewal of water supply infrastructure is becoming increasingly hot topic. Gradual renewal is one of the key points for long-term maintenance of quality and trouble-free operation. The most basic element of the entire water supply system are water resources, which shouldn't be neglected during the planning of a renewal. This thesis deals with technical construction of drinking water resources and it is mainly focused on ground-water resources. The main part of the thesis is the design of a technical assessment system for underground drinking water resources for public water supply. The purpose of such system is to create a tool for technical assessment that will identify current technical status of multiple water resources and will compare them. This comparison enables to create more effective renewal plan in future.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate The Financial Checkup program. The program consisted of a booklet called The Financial Checkup and a 1-1 y, hour workshop explaining the booklet. The booklet helps individuals evaluate their financial situation on an annual basis. It includes a net worth statement, an income and expense statement, financial ratios, a revolving savings worksheet, a retirement worksheet, a life insurance worksheet, a financial goals worksheet, and a budget worksheet. The Financial Checkup covers the topics of debt, savings, retirement, taxes, insurance, goals, and budgeting.
The stages of change model developed by James Prochaska was used to evaluate the financial situation of the participants. The model includes five stages that individuals advance through as they make behavior changes. The stages are precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance.
The Financial Checkup helped individuals progress along the stages of change. Twenty-nine percent of the individuals who participated in The Financial Checkup program advanced at least one stage compared to 2 1% of the control group. Seven percent of the treatment group regressed one or more stages compared to 17% of the control group.
The Financial Checkup program was especially effective in helping individuals complete and understand a net worth statement and an income and expense statement. On the posttest, all participants in the treatment group indicated that they knew what a net worth statement and an income and expense statement were. On the 3-month follow-up survey, 50% of the treatment group had completed a net worth statement and 63% had completed an income and expense statement.
The Financial Checkup program was most effective for helping participants advance along the stages of change and improve their financial situation in the area of debt. Of the treatment group participants, 51% indicated an improvement in stages for their debt situation. Other areas of substantial improvement were the areas of savings, taxes, homeowners insurance, retirement, and auto insurance.

In underwriting environmental risk, financial institutions are primarily concerned with the degree to which they are exposed to liability for the cleanup of a collateralized property. Through this thesis research, it was found that bank lending practices do not address issues of environmental sustainability, such as product and building design, and air and land quality. These issues of environmental sustainability are indirect factors that are not given much weight by the banks since banks are concerned about the direct risk factor of liability. There are three reasons why the lending policies of banks are narrowly focused on direct liability risks: (1) the creation of unlimited liability for banks by federal legislation (2) the focus of banking regulations on this liability and (3) the short time frame that banks use in their credit models. The findings of this research show that banks still have significant sources of direct environmental risk. The regulatory system that has defined the environmental risk factors for banks has proven itself inefficient. Based on the cases presented in this thesis, banks have not decreased the contamination of the properties held in the portfolios. The banks have responded to this regulatory environment by insulating themselves against liability risk. The regulatory environment has created a dead-weight loss to the banking system, where the banks incur costs for addressing environmental liability risk, yet there is little increased benefit to society. A question that arises in reviewing these findings is: if banks are afraid to lend to environmentally contaminated properties because of liability concerns, why haven't other players stepped in fill this void by charging more to the borrowers of these potentially contaminated sites? Other areas of the economy have segmented in reaction to this type of market failure. For example, there is a lending market that targets homeowners who need credit but who have poor credit histories. Why does the market for high-risk environmental loans remain undifferentiated? While the limits of this study preclude offering a comprehensive answer to this question, the initial findings of this study do provide insight and guidelines for further research.

The main objective of this thesis is to test whether the financial regulation put in place in Portugal with the aim of bringing stability to the banking system has contributed to that aim. This question is examined not by considering the incidence of failures before and after the regulations were put in place for, as will be set out, that approach would be inappropriate in the particular case of Portugal. Rather what is examined is whether the regulations have contributed to stability by reducing the volatility of profits or by increasing their level. Financial regulatory reform is usually characterised as a move from macroeconomic, allocation and structural controls to prudential, protective and organisational controls. The history of these changes in Portugal is set out, and their effects on profitability then examined. The following questions on the behaviour of profitability were addressed. What happened to profitability? How did it change as between before and after the reforms, and were the changes, if any, significant? Next the effect of regulation on profitability in a model of profitability, which also allows for the effects of real and nominal macroeconomic stability, interest rates, management, market structure, and ownership, is examined. Finally, the evolution of risk in the course of financial regulatory reform is examined. The main findings from the econometric tests are as follows. They show that profits, the RO.A. and RO.E. behave differently with financial regulation changes. Average profitability measured by profits increased but became more volatile, while average profitability measured by return on assets (R.O.A.) and return on equity (R.O.E.) fell. It is also found that regulation is statistically significant in explaining profits and R.O.A. behaviour but the influence of regulation on R.O.E. is statistically not significant. Output from these models is used to build a Regime Switching Model of Risk for the Banking System that allows risk to be determined simultaneously by regulation and by all the other banking performance determinants that are significant. According to these results, risk has decreased with full liberalisation of the banking market.

Without proper preparation and financial planning, it is likely that these Americans, and many more, will be unable to reach these goals as well as retire comfortably. Many Americans are overwhelmed with the immense amount of financial information, tools and resources, and as a consequence are unable to plan their finances efficiently and effectively. Americans need a better understanding as to which financial tools are most relevant to their goals, and the proper procedure to initiate a comprehensive financial plan for themselves. Understanding the benefits and drawbacks to each of the components of a comprehensive financial plan, and how they relate and complement each other, of a financial plan will greatly improve the numbers of Americans who are easing their way to a more financially predictable future.

Energy consumption in the transport sector is expected to increase substantially over the coming decades. The uncertainty in the forecasts are relatively high regarding the size of the increase but reports from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) points to an increase of 56 percent between 2010 and 2040 (IEO2013, 2013, p. 9). World Energy Council forecasts an increase between 30 and 85 percent, depending on the impact of various factors such as market regulation, population growth, urbanization, and the availability of fossil energy (Global Transportation Scenarios 2050 (TSG 2050), 2011, p. 4-5). Some of this energy could come from advanced renewable fuels such as advanced renewable biodiesel. The commercialization of advanced renewable biofuels has however been slow even though the technology has long been considered mature for large scale production. External market factors that are frequently blamed for the lack of commercialization are lack of political support, low crude oil prices, high raw material prices, and notable profitability for producers of first generation biofuels. Previous studies further suggest that advanced biofuels are expensive to produce (Demirbas, 2010; Milbrandt et al., 2013) and that the companies operating in the industry hold high financial risks (Miller et al., 2013). This study examines the systemic financial risks as well as the estimated returns that the market places on companies active in the emerging advanced biodiesel industry. The results from the study indicate, contrary to previous studies and current external market factors that the systematic risks are not considerable higher for the advanced biodiesel industry than the market average or the established biofuel industry. This is despite the fact that oil prices have been low, raw materials prices high and that the uncertainty surrounding the political forms of support for the industry during the studied period have increased. This should have resulted in increasing rather than decreasing financial risk in relation to the previous studies of the advanced biofuel sector. Important factors that contribute to the results obtained in this study are circumstances that previous studies have completely disregarded, factors that may be beneficial for the studied companies. The studied firms are showing noteworthy profitability, access to substantial working capital, relatively low ratios between stock prices and cash flows. Furthermore, the analyzed companies have a business structure that other studies so far have completely ignored, e.g. they are structured as "biorefineries". This means the studied firms, similarly to conventional petroleum refineries, are producing and trading various products produced from the same raw material. The difference being that the analyzed firms use renewable raw materials rather than crude oil to produce the commodities. The firms thus possess an "option-based" diversification strategy which may be perceived by the market as a future real option. In contrast to focused firms these firms may simply change their business focus based on changes in prevailing external market factors or decreasing profitability in any part of the company. In accordance with the theories of the effective market hypothesis theory and random walk the market has access to all this available knowledge regarding these firms’ specific factors, pricing the risks on this knowledge these as well as prevailing external market factors. The results of the study suggest that the firm-specific factors in the studied companies may be more important than some of the considered external market factors in the pricing of financial systemic risks.

This mixed methods study evaluated the validity, and reliability of an instrument designed to assess a middle school student's proficiency in systems thinking as described in the 2010 Oregon Environmental Literacy Plan. In Stage 1, a forum of middle school students, formal, and non-formal educators used the Delphi technique to reach consensus regarding which skills were important to include in a scoring guide for systems thinking. In Stage 2, the scoring guide was field tested by formal and non-formal educators using a sample of students' work. The two groups' scores were compared using Cohen's kappa to make inferences regarding inter-rater reliability. Concurrently, an autoethnographic narrative was written to explore issues of equity related to the assessment of environmental literacy.
The commonalities between formal and non-formal educators revealed a high level of validity for the construct of proficiency with systems thinking, and a moderate level of reliability between the scores assigned by two groups of educators. In the words of the middle school students, formal, and non-formal educators, who volunteered to create the scoring guide, the ability to make responsible decisions with natural systems, community, and the future in mind involves: creating solutions for systems that are not in balance, presenting the complex inner workings of a system in a simple and succinct way, collaborating, exploring multiple solutions, and sharing ideas in a way that people will understand you.

COORDENAÇÃO DE APERFEIÇOAMENTO DO PESSOAL DE ENSINO SUPERIORO Sistema Financeiro brasileiro, após a estabilização econômica de 1994, passou por intensas modificações, com a necessidade de implementação de vários programas de saneamento. A primeira parte desta dissertação oferece uma explicação alternativa para esta fragilidade. Ao considerarmos as atividades de gestão de crédito e de obtenção de receitas inflacionárias competitivas para as decisões de investimento do banco, expectativas de maiores taxas de inflação futuras fazem com que as instituições fiquem mais expostas a riscos de insolvência, quando de um choque de taxa de juros reais. Na segunda parte da dissertação, abordamos as implicações de diferentes desenhos institucionais para a fiscalização bancária. Caso crises bancárias deteriorem os trade-offs da política monetária quando a regulação for realizada pelo Banco Central, temos como resultado excesso de fiscalização bancária. Ao contrário do recomendado na literatura, o modelo implica que países emergentes, onde há maiores probabilidades de crises bancárias e a política monetária está mais sujeita a deterioração de trade-offs, devem ter agência autônoma de fiscalização bancária.
After the end of high inflation in 1994, the Brazilian financial system experienced intense changes in its structure. Several programs were designed to recapitalize insolvent institutions. The first topic of this thesis shows an alternative explanation for the weakness of the financial system in this period. Since risk management of loans and inflationary floating are competitive activities in banks investments, higher inflation rate expectations may lead to institutions with higher risks of bankruptcy due to real interest rate shocks. The second topic of this thesis, we investigate the implications of different institutional designs of financial supervision. Considering that financial crisis may worsen the monetary policy trade-offs when supervision is provided by central bank, one outcome of the model is over-regulation of the financial system. In contrast to standard literature views, our model implies separation of the supervision and monetary policy activities in emerging markets countries, where bank crisis are often and monetary authority lack full credibility.
