Abstract:
The article draws attention to the extraordinary, by African standards, respect in Eritrea for the soldiers of the Italian colonial troops, the Ascari, and even for some of their Italian officers, such as Amedeo Guillet. The author reveals the reason for this respect, which was not present in another former Italian colony Libya. After studying the materials on the number and combat path of the Ascari, colonial Libya, Eritrea, and Italy’s policy in it, the author came to the conclusion that Italian colonialism from a clean slate formed an anti-Ethiopian identity in Eritrea. It was expressed in the Ascari who played an important role in the war of independence from Ethiopia that began in 1961. Its roots go back to 1896 when Ethiopians mutilated Eritrean prisoners after the battle of Adwa.

Abstract:
Objective This study aims to assess the efficacy of single-dosealbendazole in treating mild, moderate, and severe ascariasis. Methods Stool specimens were collected from randomly selectedelementary school children in Suka village, Sumatera Utara, fromMarch to April 2002. Based on the number of eggs per gram feces(NEPG), samples were categorized as mild (NEPG < 7000), mod-erate (NEPG 7000-35,000), or severe (NEPG > 35,000) ascari-asis. All subjects then received 400 mg albendazole orally. NEPGcount was repeated on the 7 th , 14 th , 21 st and 28 th day after treat-ment. The chi-square test was used to compare cure rates be-tween subjects with mild, moderate, and severe ascariasis. TheANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis tests were employed to analyze quan-titative data. Results From the 134 specimens collected, we found mild ascari-asis in 57 (42.5%), moderate ascariasis in 57 (42.5%), and severeascariasis in 20 (15%). There was no significant difference be-tween the three groups in NEPG after treatment (P>0.05). Thecure rate and egg reduction rate on day 28 after treatment was 100%.Conclusion A single dose of 400 mg albendazole is effective forthe treatment of mild, moderate, and severe ascariasis.

Abstract:
Abstract Under the Fascist regime, young Italians amused themselves by practicing the war games of adulthood. Paper soldiers marched across board games set in the newly established empire of Italian East Africa. To reveal how these vicious lessons worked, this article examines three types of toys. It starts with the design and deployment of paper soldiers: Italian Alpinisti, Eritrean Ascari, and Somali Dubat. Next, a playbook for The Conquest of Abyssinia boardgame provides a guide to military conquest. Finally, I examine where these toys come from, revealing the financial structures that underpinned colonial propaganda for Fascist government projects. Ultimately, toys wrote scripts for adult violence in the colonies.

Abstract:
Biological sludge can be a valuable resource for agricultural soil conditioning. However, an important obstacle for its use is the usual presence of pathogenic organisms, capable of disease dissemination. The main occurring pathogens are virus, bacteria, protozoa and helminth. Helminth eggs are very resistant to thermal inactivation. The Ascaris lumbricoids sp. are by far the most conspicuous and resistant among helminths, reason why they have been chosen as indicator organisms for this research. The main available systems to inactivate sludge pathogens are composting, drying and thermal treatment, anaerobic thermofilic digestion, beta and gamma radiation, and pasteurization. Pasteurization through application of saturated steam, produced from burning of methane gas, generated in anaerobic digestors is a very simple technology involving low capital costs and needing relatively small areas for implementation. It can be a valuable technology to attend conditions prevailing in large metropolitan areas of industrializing countries. Thermal inactivation of helminth eggs in water and sludge is the main purpose of this investigation. Kinetics studies of thermal inactivation by saturated steam was performed using batch reactors. Application of the integral method has allowed for the determination of reaction orders, the specific constants of thermal die away as well as the activation energies. The helminth eggs (Ascaris suum) utilized have been obtained from uterus of adult females and the Yanko method was utilized for the recovery of eggs from the digested sludge. In the same way the thermal inactivation of Ascaris eggs in water and in digested sludge has been performed in continuous process by mathematical modeling of a plug flow reactor. The proposed models were the isothermic plug flow reactor with a non-ideal flow profile and with an axial temperature profile and ideal flow. The experimental data has shown a better adjustment to the isothermic plug flow reactor.

Abstract:
Introduction: Sewage sludge from wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) presents a diverse composition and is a source of pollution depending on its origin, type of treatment and seasonality; moreover it can contain a large variety of pathogens including parasites. However, if this residue is submitted to an efficient treatment, it can be used as a fertilizer and soil conditioner. Some epidemiologic studies conducted in developed countries demonstrated a high incidence of enteroparasitosis, being Ascaris sp the most prevalent. Therefore, the use of sewage sludge in the agriculture can bring risks to the human health. In order to protect the population health, a recent Brazilian regulation, Rule CONAMA 375/2006, has established standards regarding its use in agricultural areas. Objective To detect and quantify Ascaris sp and other helminth eggs in sewage sludge from three wastewater treatment plants from a metropolitan region and also to verify the compliance with CONAMA standards. Method The analysis were carried out according to appendix F of CRF 503 USEPA 2003. Results All samples presented a rich parasitological fauna such as eggs of Ancylostoma sp, Ascaris sp, Capillaria sp, Enterobius vermicularis, Fasciola hepatica, Hymenolepis sp, Taenia sp, Toxocara sp and Trichuris sp. Non-viable Ascaris sp eggs were prevalent with 67.71 per cent , followed by Toxocara sp (13.62 per cent ).Viable Ascaris sp eggs were present in 10.16 per cent of the samples. Conclusion It was concluded that the sludge samples analyzed presented a large variety of helminth eggs, being Ascaris sp the most prevalent. None of the three WWTPs met CONAMA parasitological standards for class A sewage sludge

Abstract:
Ascaris worm as one of the commonest helminthic infection constitutes a major public health challenge and concern in the majority of developing countries . This study was conducted to assess the prevalence of Ascaris worm infection and its associated risk factors among primary school children in Lambata community, to determine the prevalence of Ascaris infection, age, gender and associated risk factors among them to create awareness and effective management program. A cross-sectional descriptive study was adopted. This study was conducted between January 2019 and November 2020, in nine selected primary schools in Lambata community. A total of 303 stool samples were collected using random sampling to determine the prevalence of Ascaris infection using stool smear technique. The socio-demographic data was collected using a structured interview questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using simple percentages, OR and chi-square analytical methods.Out of the 303 screened stools, 156 (51.5%) of them had Ascaris infection. The most infected age-groups were 11- 12 years old (73.8%; OR = 2.11); followed by 9-10 years (57.1%; OR = 2.01), while 6-8 years old had the lowest rate (42.3%; OR = 1.00) of infection. Males (65.9%; OR= 2.00) were more infected than their female (39.9% ; OR = 0.09) counterparts (P<0.05). Age, educational status / occupational status of parents of the children, and defecation habits were significantly(P<0.05) associated with the prevalence of Ascaris infection. With the overall prevalence of 51.5% of Ascaris infection among the children, there is an indispensable need for health education promotion and coordinated de-worming of the primary school children in this community Keywords: Epidemiology, Ascaris, Stool, Health, Helminth, Children, Promotion, Education
