Abstract:
Abstract ARTZ @ Jefferson positions people with dementia and care partners as authorities about their lived experiences; arts-based experiences assist them in communicating with and mentoring health-professions students about those lived experiences. Since Spring 2016, over 100 students have been mentored by people with dementia and their care partners. Their first encounters take place in museum galleries, through facilitated conversations about works of art. Over the next six to eight weeks, students and mentors build relationships through group meetings and individual conversations. Post course surveys demonstrated that nearly 100% of students indicated their increased ability to value listening and listen to others, enhanced the healthcare provider/patient relationship, and prioritized patients’ life experiences. The majority of mentors noted that student interactions added to their quality of life, social engagement and sense of purpose. Preliminary outcomes suggest that arts-based experiences establish mutual respect and empathy between people with dementia and students.

Abstract:
This is the first of two special issues based on materials presented at the FICE International Congress in Vienna, Austria in August 2016. The theme of the congress was “Together Towards a Better World for Children, Adolescents, and Families”. The same theme was chosen for these special issues. Child and youth care professionals who presented their quality material in the congress were invited to rework their presentations as formal papers meeting the norms of a scientific journal. FICE International is most thankful to the guest editors, Jim Anglin, Silke Gahleitner, and Emmanuel Grupper, who worked with all the contributors to prepare their materials for publication. We also want to thank Dr. Sibylle Artz, the editor of IJCYFS, for giving us the opportunity to publish this material in an open-access electronic journal and in that way share it with a much broader audience.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Traditionally, art history divided the arts into four genres: painting and sculpture, poetry and music. Hence the art-historical canon was dominated by a strict division into the arts of space and those of time. Movement (both of an internal and externalized kind) did not find a place within this classificatory corset. In 1766, Gotthold Ephraim Lessing framed the classical art-theoretical approach through his famous text ‚Laocoon: An Essay on the Limits of Painting and Poetry‘, in which he splits the arts into those unfolding in time and those unfolding in space. Lessing’s ‚Laocoon‘ is the founding text defining poetry and music as time-based, sculpture and painting as space-orientated. By 1900, this strict system of classification and hierarchization began to dissolve, giving way to cross-border experiments in the arts of the twentieth century up to the present day. This overturning of classical genre divisions between the static and the dynamic arts, between sculpture, installation, and performance enables us to examine artworks as variations of movement in terms of ‚constellations between scene and scenario‘. Furthermore, the development of movement as an artform implies the activation of the audience in participatory arts practice.

Abstract:
Abstract: In 1936 the Convegno Volta took place in Rome and it was dedicated to discuss the relationship between architecture and the figurative arts. Among the participants there was Le Corbusier, who presented a speech where he clearly establishes the fundamentals of the place of art in architecture, a key point in his later Synthèse des arts. After a manifesto of Modern Architecture, Le Corbusier states that in certain exceptional cases there can be “collaboration” between architecture and art, with the scope of “increasing human pleasure”. His attention is placed upon painting, sculpture and design; and as a response he proposes polychromy and “precise and mathematic points” where a “strong and worthy” artist can speak and let his discourse be felt. Abstract:
Estas serão as questões discutidas nesta comunicação.

The findings from this ARC Linkage project The Role of the Creative Arts in Regional Australia: a social impact model (LP180100477) indicate that arts and cultural projects and programs have the potential to be profound drivers of community thriveability including attracting workforce, improving wellbeing, employment and tourism opportunities. These findings emphasise that particularly in regional and remote communities social, cultural and economic outcomes and engagement with art, culture and creativity are often entwined.

Schell, Laurie. Introduction to Case-making and Systems Change in Arts & Cultural Education. Creative Generation, February 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.51163/creative-gen009.

Full text
Abstract:
Introduction to Case-making and Systems Change in Arts & Cultural Education is an overview of a collaborative project between Creative Generation and ElevateArtsEd undertaken to better understand how practitioners - such as artists, educators, community leaders, and more - can make the case for and also advocate through arts and culture to drive systemic change and address complex challenges. The project seeks to expand the knowledge base of case-making and systems change in the field of arts and cultural education and provide resources to support effective actions for practitioners and young creatives. Investigating both the theory and the practice of case-making, the introductory article draws on research from three distinct sectors: cultural, education, and social justice. The approach represents both the science of advocacy-- building blocks for understanding what effective advocacy looks like-- and the art of advocacy with calls for improvisation, adaptability, and generative thinking, all characteristics of art making. The article describes six key learning themes and an expanded model for advocacy focused on self, field, and sector through an overarching lens of social justice.

Abstract:
HundrED and Supercell believe that fostering Visual Art skills can be just as important as numeracy and literacy. Furthermore, we also believe that Visual Arts can be integrated into all learning in schools and developed in a diversity of ways. To this end, the purpose of this project is to shine a spotlight, and make globally visible, leading education innovations from around the world doing exceptional work on developing the skill of Visual Arts for all students, teachers, and leaders in schools today.

Nyman, Matt, Nancy Staus, and Martin Storksdieck. Science and Art Teaching Practices for Oregon Elementary Teachers: Results of a Landscape Survey. Oregon State University, September 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.5399/osu/1163.

Abstract:
An Evaluation Report for the Oregon Department of Education. In collaboration with classroom teachers and WRAP personnel we developed and implemented a survey to collect baseline data on the science and arts teaching practices for ALL elementary teachers. This included “regular” classroom teachers (those teachers with an assigned physical classroom and set of students), art teachers, music teachers, PE teachers and other educators or administrators. In December 2022 we recruited three (3) elementary teachers to assist us in survey development, in particular framing questions around frequency of teaching time for both arts and science instruction. One important outcome was that we formulated questions around “dedicated” teaching time where instruction was only focused on science or art content and “integrated” teaching when teachers combine science or art with other instructional areas (such as math or literacy). We also learned that there was a lot of nuances in trying to capture the science and art teaching data; for example, some schools have large blocks of time when they have a particular focus on a science content area and then equally large blocks when science teaching is replaced by instruction in other fields, such as social science. It can be difficult to reduce this instructional framework to a weekly allotment of science teaching.

Rogers, Amanda. The Seven Colours Festival: Young People and Civic Participation in the Arts. Swansea University, July 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.23889/sureport.66346.

Abstract:
Based on our previous research (Rogers et al 2021) we noticed a difference between how artists think the arts relate to society, and how young people imagine this relationship. Young people wanted to see (and connected most strongly to) art works that more immediately engaged with the pressing social issues of Cambodia, many of which are political – including climate change, the expression of identity and human rights (e.g. LGBTQ identity), corruption and scams, and democracy. However, artists, particularly in the performing arts and music sectors, must walk a tightrope in making works that address this kind of content, with incidents of censorship most likely to occur in music (Brennert and Yean 2023). This raises the question of how the arts can connect to society, and the possibilities and limitations of this relationship. This project follows on from our initial findings, focusing on young people who may not have much experience of the arts. It considers how the arts may work for young people as a form of civic participation and what that might look like in Cambodia. To do this it traced the journey of four young interns in producing a youth festival (the 7 Colours Festival) during the course of 2023 for Cambodian Living Arts (CLA). We examined their participation in creating the event, how they connected the festival to the social concerns of young people, and evaluated how young people participated in the festival.
