Abstract:
Artur Duck, De Usu et Authoritate Iuris Civilis Romanorum in Regno Galliarum. The Overview of the BibliographySummaryDe Usu et Authoritate Juris Civilis Romanorum in Dominiis Principum Christianorum, the work by Artur Duck was published in London in 1653. Duck, one of the leading civil lawyers, a royalist, high commissioner, Master in Chancery, King’s Advocate and a chancellor of three dioceses wrote his book in exile in Oxford during the English Civil War. In his work he analysed the position and influence of the Roman Law in fourteen countries of 17th-century Europe. The chapter concerning the Kingdom of France deserves a special interest, mainly due to the great number of learned lawyers cited by Duck. His study shows his excellent knowledge of legal works on the French law of that time. This paper tries to present the complete bibliography of the books used by Duck to describe the influence of the Roman Law in the Kingdom of France.

Abstract:
Artur Duck, De Usu et Authoritate Juris Civilis Romanorum - Mediocre or Brilliant Work?SummaryDe Usu et Authoritate Juris Civilis Romanorum in Dominiis Principum Christianorum, the work by Artur Duck was published in London in 1653. Duck, one o f the leading civil lawyers, a royalist, high commissioner, Master in Chancery, King’s Advocate and a chancellor of three dioceses wrote his book in exile in Oxford during the English Civil War. In his work he analysed the position and influence o f Roman Law in fourteen countries of 17th-century Europe. Apart from England, Scotland and Ireland, he researched the German Empire, France, Italy, Sicily and Naples, Poland, Hungary, Bohemia, Spain, Portugal, Denmark and Sweden. Although Duck was an Englishman, he admired Roman Law and believed it could unify and consolidate the legal systems of Christian Europe. His work shows deep knowledge of how the legal systems o f 17th-century Europe were organized and influenced by Roman Law. What seems to be of a special significance is the section of his book considering the role o f Roman law in England, where Duck was involved in judicial activity for several years as a judge and advocate. Although his work remained forgotten for centuries, contemporary science is attempting to restore it to its proper position. So far, Duck’s work has not been scientifically analysed but there is no doubt that it deserves a detailed study.

This article analyses several artistically important Polish 21st-century plays, in which a character has been modelled on the person of Pope John Paul II. The works studied here are Jerzy Pilch’s Narty Ojca Świętego, Paweł Grabowski’s Dotknięci, Michał Walczak’s Człowiek z Bogiem w szafie and Artur Grabowski’s Cnoty zachodniej cywilizacji. This article aims to show not only the way the above-mentioned literary texts present the figure of the Pope, his life and works, but also his influence on the life of ordinary people. By researching John Paul II’s presence in literature, this article helps to contribute to the commemoration of the Pope Saint.

Abstract:
As a journalistic genre, reportage is determined by the context in which it is produced. It transports the reader to a specific time and place, but, unlike the news, it does not depend on current events. Therefore, a reporter is not constrained by brevity and, like any other author, aims to develop their own style. This was the case of Ryszard Kapuściński, who was the Polish Press Agency’s only correspondent in Latin America from 1967 to 1972. After this experience, Kapuściński returned several times to the continent from 2001 to 2005 and gave lectures for the Fundacion Nuevo Periodismo Iberomericano, founded by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. His reportages about the continent are considered highly political (in fact Artur Domosławski describes him as a naive “true believer” in communism during his stay as a correspondent). This article, however, views the significance of his time on the new continent from a different perspective. Was the most important Latin American influence on Kapuściński actually the style and genre that he developed as he explored a new kind of reportage: ‘‘magical journalism”?

Abstract:
On 24 August 1914, Lieutenant General Artur von Bolfras warned his peer Franz Conrad von Hötzendorf that the draconian measures directed against domestic suspects were causing a lot of trouble and amounted to throwing the baby out with the bath water by fostering internal animosity. “We should not,” Bolfras insisted, “unnecessarily antagonize the population who have so far shown themselves to be loyal and ready for sacrifice beyond all expectations.” He urged in particular that Conrad should use his influence to put a stop to the excesses of the military command in Temesvár in southern Hungary, where, starting in late July 1914, hundreds of arrests were made following the partial mobilization against Serbia, thus putting into practice Conrad's professed military rationale: “better lock up one hundred people than one too few.” The initial spate of arrests and internments that accompanied the mobilization for war continued well into the autumn of 1914, snowballing into virulent state-driven repression, targeting mostly, but not only, Serbs, a situation which Josef Redlich referred to in his journal as a “race war” and a “systematic policy of extermination.” To Bolfras's letter of notification, Conrad replied that orders had been wired to Temesvár to the effect that abuses should be avoided and the military should work harmoniously with the civilian authorities, but he also signified that “we here can't do anything about individual abuses.”

Abstract:
Recent surveys of theatre theory and historiography have given only very limited attention to a critical episode in the organization, development and legitimation of modern theatre scholarship, the Theaterwissenschaft writings of German-language theorists of theatre study in the first half of the twentieth century. I propose to survey briefly the major moments in this group's emergence, characterize the theoretical approaches associated with some principal figures in the group, outline something of their influence (or reception), and make a few suggestions about their importance for further study. Their work has been undergoing a steady re-appraisal in the contemporary German theatre academy, and some members of the group, like Hans Knudsen and Artur Kutscher, were sufficiently self-conscious about the process of institution-building that their own history has itself been subject to historiographic comment. Consequently I will offer some German reconsiderations of the structure and significance of the field where they seem appropriate. Though there is some sense in the current American construction of this group as “positivist,” the label does not quite acknowledge the variety of theatre theories in which their relatively adequate theory of empirical evidence can be applied, nor does it do justice to the group's interest in theatre as a social phenomenon. The work of the group is so varied in relation to its empirical basis, and so involved in the emerging discourses of sociology, anthropology, and psychology, that it gives us reason to doubt any narrow construction of the theatre-historical tradition as theoretically naive or one-dimensional.

Abstract:
The subject of this research is the norms of international legal acts, legislations of the EU member-states, decisions of foreign national courts, as well as decisions of the European Court on Human Rights and European Court of Justice. A hypothesis is advanced that within the framework of the European arrest warrant there are new trends associated namely with the desire to strengthen the system of protection of rights of the extradited individuals, which can negatively affect functionality of the procedure as a whole. Thus, a number of cases of the national courts (for example Artur Celmer case) and Court of the European Union (Pál Aranyosi and Robert Căldăraru case), as well as provisions of the constitutional courts lead to the fact that the principle of mutual recognition of court decision is used with caution. The article examines the case law of national courts of the EU member-states, as well as practice of the European Court of Justice and European arrest warrant. The author compared the decisions of the aforementioned courts for confirming the hypothesis that the protection of extradited individuals plays a significant role in the context of operation of the European arrest warrant. The intention to provide legal guarantees to individuals extradited in the context of the European arrest warrant, which loses its main influence; particularly the procedure is interrupted due to absence of guarantees of protection of rights in case of extradition, as well as raises doubt towards judicial systems and their decisions of some EU member-states brought forth by political actions of these countries. Moreover, protection of rights and guarantee of fair trial increases.

Abstract:
Art critics rarely write about the creative connection between Aubrey Beardsley (1872–1898), a prominent representative of book and magazine graphics of the decadence era, and the famous Edwardian illustrator Arthur Rackham (1867–1939), limiting themselves, as a rule, to a couple of dry facts. Despite this, there is evidence of the influence of the former on the latter, which requires careful study. Rackham turned to Beardsley's work many times, his opinion about the outstanding fin de siecle graphics changed over time, allowing him to acquire certain features of his early deceased contemporary, to quote his drawings, to be inspired by the same artists and art trends. Rackham was especially influenced by Beardsley's early period, namely his illustrations for The Death of Arthur from 1893-1994, which was reflected in the design of several editions illustrated by Rackham: from The Legends of Ingoldsby (1898) to The Novel of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table "(1917). In this regard, the article provides a detailed analysis of the creative dialogue between the Edwardian artist and the legacy of the outstanding graphic artist fin de siècle.

Abstract:
Reading and analyzing Paula Vogel’s plays, the readers can attest that she achieves success in drama or theater because she is passionate about theater. Vogel is a modern American playwright who won the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for drama. Her success and insight in playwriting or in adapting do not come all of a sudden; she is influenced by many writers. Vogel is influenced by many American dramatists, including Eugene O’ Neill, Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams, and Edward Albee, and by other non-American writers, including August Strindberg, Anton Chekhove, and Bertolt Brecht. Certainly, there were female playwrights who wrote preeminent plays and they influence Vogel as well. Nevertheless, dramas by female writers, as a matter of fact, remain marginalized. This paper focuses on the influence of some female playwrights on Vogel.

This study uses Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory, which will explain how the conditions of the Id, Ego, and superego in Arthur Fleck are actually the main influences of Arthur's disorder. The results of this study conclude that Arthur Fleck's character immediately changes because of events in his dark past. Abstract:
Our main goal was to determine if fish distribution and adundance in temporary wetlands were shaped primarily by large-scale (landscape) or small-scale (local) characteristics and to investigate the influence of cattle ranching on fish assemblages. A total of 24 temporary ponds were selected at the Kissimmee Prairie Sanctuary and the Mac Arthur Agro-Ecology Research Center. Each wetland was sampled for fish using throw traps and dip nets during 1999. Landscape processes (connectivity to permanent water bodies) predominately influenced fish assemblages, although local processes (depth–hydroperiod) were also important. Furthermore, no colonizing species went locally extinct before wetlands began to dry. Our findings suggest that large-scale processes that influence colonization dynamics are of more importance than small-scale processes that influence extinction dynamics. Finally, hydrological changes (ditching) associated with agriculture (cattle ranching) have adversely affected temporary wetland fish assemblages by reducing wetland hydroperiods and connectivity.

My topic today is the influence of the character and career of Attila the Hun upon those of King Arthur. The very suggestion of such influence may be surprising, not to say startling, to most of my audience, to most of whom Arthur is the Flower of Christian Kings. For if, in the minds and hearts of Hungarians Attila is "Uncle Etzel," a beneficent national hero, to the English, Americans, and Canadians, he is something else again: an embodiment of demonic darkness who laid waste the centres of civilization in France, Germany, and Italy, and threatened to extinguish the light of Christianity just as it was dawning.

Abstract:
John Heaney, “Arthur Schopenhauer, Evolution, and Ecology in Thomas Hardy’s The Woodlanders” (pp. 516–545) This essay takes issue with two truisms within Thomas Hardy criticism: first, the widely accepted view that The Woodlanders (1887) is Hardy’s most “Darwinian” work; and second, the standard assumption that Arthur Schopenhauer’s influence on Hardy’s writing can be discerned specifically in the works from Tess of the D’Urbervilles (1891) onward, and primarily in the unrelenting pessimism that characterizes both writers’ worldviews. The essay calls into question the simplification underlying both positions by suggesting ways in which Schopenhauer’s metaphysics may have influenced Hardy’s treatment of evolutionary themes in The Woodlanders, paying particular attention to Hardy’s choice of plant life as the dominant metaphor within the novel, and the numerous ways in which the evolutionary model it depicts diverges from that formulated by thinkers such as Charles Darwin and Herbert Spencer. It argues furthermore that Schopenhauer’s philosophy of nature therefore offers the optimum framework through which to interpret Hardy’s unique ecological vision in the novel, and calls for renewed attention to the philosopher’s proto-phenomenological description of reality, the significance of which has been largely overlooked by recent ecocritical scholars searching for a non-Cartesian framework in which to couch their readings.

Abstract: In 1792, Gottlob E. Schulze published one of the most important treatises in the era of the early critical reception of Kant’s transcendental philosophy: the skeptical treatise Aenesidemus. One of Schulze’s later students was the young Arthur Schopenhauer, whose examination of Kant’s philosophy was significantly influenced by Schulze. In this paper, it shall be established that this influence isn’t limited solely to the details of Schopenhauer’s critique of Kantian thinking, but rather extends to the systematic unfolding of Schopenhauer’s philosophy as a whole. In this respect, Schopenhauer’s The World as Will and Representation can be understood as a direct, positive answer to the questions left open by Schulze’s debate on the internal problems of Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason.

Abstract:
Professor Arthur McComb conducted pioneer research on the occurrence and mode of action of the plant growth hormones gibberellins for fifteen years. He then applied his experimental skills and physiological knowledge to develop a whole ecosystem approach to the study of aquatic systems. He was passionate in wanting to improve the state of environmental management, based on rational, logical and well-founded biological principles. He and his team focused primarily on the mechanisms controlling plant growth and productivity in aquatic environments, and especially the effects of nutrient enrichment and its consequences, eutrophication. He became a leader in nutrient analysis of water systems, with innovations in how to determine nutrient pathways into waterways and strategies for fixing these issues. This important research has informed the long-term management of several important aquatic systems in Western Australia: the Blackwood River Estuary, the Peel Harvey Estuary, and the protection of seagrasses in Shark Bay, the Swan River and Cockburn Sound. Arthur McComb had a seminal influence on a generation of researchers. Thirty-nine students completed their higher degrees under his supervision and they are spread internationally and throughout Australia in universities, state government departments and consulting firms, confirming his influence on driving our understanding and management of marine, estuarine and freshwater systems.

Abstract:
Thanatological considerationsin the novel Bad Eternity by Georgii PeskovThe literary pseudonym Georgii Peskov belonged to Elena Deisha, the representative of the “younger generation” of the writers of the first wave of the Russian emigration, the author of the novel Bad Eternity 1932. The story primarily focuses on thanatological considerations, which are conducted from a range of perspectives: one of those is the issue of suicide, treated as a victory over death; another one is the question of immortality — the librarian is truly obsessed about being immortal; some attention is also drawn to the problem of ageing as a phenomenon closely related to dying; finally, an act of murder is committed. Considering the thematic ideology, the issue is mentioned of the extinction of the European civilization. Georgii Peskov’s artistic thanatology was strongly influenced by the overall spirits of the era as well as the philosophical considerations expressed by Oswald Spengler, Arthur Schopenhauer, and Vladimir Solovyov.Problematyka tanatologicznaw opowieści Zła wieczność Gieorgija PieskowaPod pseudonimem Gieorgij Pieskow ukrywała się Elena Dejsza, przedstawicielka „młodszego pokolenia” pisarzy pierwszej fali emigracji rosyjskiej, autorka opowieści Zła wieczność 1932. W utworze istotne miejsce zajmuje problematyka tanatologiczna. Abstract:
The film brings a cultural instrument that educates people. People can see the psychological aspects through the characters and social situation, which influences the characterization in the film. This study examines Joker (2019) a movie containing the psychological conflicts and the society problems of discrimination system in this era which affects much on the character of Arthur who suffers pseudobulbar affect. The researchers used Maslow’s Theory of Human Needs to analyze Arthur’s need to reflect society’s problem needs. A descriptive qualitative method was used in this study because it focused on the human needs of the main character. The primary data was taken from the dialogue in the film, while the secondary data was from articles discussing Arthur Fleck and society as the film's setting. The technique of collecting data was documentation while analyzing data was divided into three stages. First was data reduction; the researcher classified the data of Arthur ‘s needs and explained why they are classified into those categories. The second was data display; the data is structured and presented so that it is easier to be understood. Then, the researchers presented the data into the display categorized on each dialogue that reflected Arthur’s needs levels and the social problems faced by Arthur. Finally, the conclusion was delivered by describing Maslow's data and theory of human needs and elaborating the description of social issues at that era. The result revealed Arthur Fleck had difficulty fulfilling his basic human needs such as physiological, safety, love and belongingness and esteem needs because of the government's broken system and how society treats a person who suffers mental health disorder like Arthur Fleck. The failure to fulfill those needs has made Arthur actualize himself as the cold-blooded clown, The Joker. Then, it helps him to be recognized and being acknowledged by others.

J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved Lord of the Rings has been considered one of the greatest works of English literature. This work analyzes Tolkien's inspiration and motivation in his writing process by situation middle-earth in the context of postwar England. Evaluation Tolkien's letters reveal his affinity for Arthurian legend, and his desire to reinvent it to create a myth that was distinctly English. A comparison of the two bodies of legend reveals similar Archetypal elements and characterizations that give Tolkien's legendarium credibility and weight. Through Sauron's destruction of middle-earth, Tolkien reveals his concerns for a modern, industrialized England and the consequences of war. In The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien reinvents the legend of Arthur into a synthesis of English national identity and exigency for the future.

Abstract:
This paper gives a particular overview of reflections on education by two renowned philosophers of West European culture, Arthur Schopenhauer and Friedrich Nietzsche. What links their philosophy of education is the inclination towards the more complete shaping of a man. Nietzsche is a great supporter of Schopenhauer's understanding of philosophy as a philosophy of life. However, while Schopenhauer remained imprisoned in the world of pessimism, Nietzsche overcame the pessimistic view of the world with the image of a creative artist who consistently sets his life in motion, while enjoying his art of living. The thing they have in common is extreme individualism – the understanding of philosophy as the liberation of inner life. Arthur Schopenhauer perceived a man as a being of will that succumbs to laws of nature and the lower levels of humanity – will and passion. Friedrich Nietzsche saw a man as a being of will for power, emphasizing the power of the urgent and irrational one. Schopenhauer gave the pessimistic view of a man who is under the power of an unquenchable lust for life, whereas Nietzsche gave a nihilistic view of the world, in which he advocated demolishing and putting an end to the old values. In Nietzsche's opinion, a nihilist is someone who sees everything as pointless and futile. Arthur Schopenhauer had a significant influence, not only on Friedrich Nietzsche but also on some other great men of his time, who mostly did not support his philosophy in its entirety. Understanding the world in Schopenhauer's way came to life at the end of the 19th century and later, primarily because of Friedrich Nietzsche. This was an era in which social sciences finally began to develop separately, but at the same time complement each other. Due to this interaction, it was possible for Schopenhauer, and through him also for Nietzsche, to have such a significant influence on the European spiritual life.

Abstract:
Golding’s translation of the first complete version of Ovid’s Metamorphoses (1567) influenced authors (including Shakespeare), teachers, and, undoubtedly, most literate Elizabethans. It proved to be a popular text, but that popularity was mostly a Reformation-era phenomenon, and after 1612 the text was not reprinted until the twentieth century. Modern scholars have debated numerous issues: the nature and merits of Golding’s translation, with many judging it to be an odd transposition of the original; its engagement with the religious and political polemics of the day; and the degree to which the translation might or might not follow the moralizing approaches of previous allegorical traditions. This essay demonstrates the didactic, protreptic nature of the text and examines how Golding—a devout Calvinist—employed numerous literary devices to illustrate the frightful consequences that result from ungodly human desires and behaviors. He reinvented the text by creating an intertwined relationship between text and paratext to form the foundation of his protreptic method. With his translation Golding sought to highlight the growth of sinful behavior and to persuade readers toward his particular religious, political, and cultural concerns with contemporary English society. As the Elizabethan world died, so did the interest in Golding’s Metamorphoses; it no longer spoke to people in a significant way.

On 13 August 1919 an interview between Charles Dawbarn, a member of the press, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle on the relationship between Christianity and Spiritualism appeared in the columns of The Daily Chronicle. Before the article appeared, Dawbarn had also asked the Archbishop of Canterbury, Randall Davidson, ,for an interview to give him the opportunity to state the position of Anglicanism in regard to Spiritualism. ‘It will be seen,’ he told the Archbishop, ‘that Sir Arthur blames the Church for cold comfort administered to those who mourn their dead and declares that windy words and dogmatic assertions prevail in the pulpit.’ Archbishop Davidson, however, refused this invitation. The article, ‘The Challenge of Spiritualism. Does It Confirm the Christian Doctrine of Immortality?,’ introduced Sir Arthur as ‘… the immortal literary figure … Sure we are that nothing but sincerity and a desire to serve humanity lies at the bottom of his missionary efforts for Spiritualism.’ Dawbarn noted that in the minds of many people Spiritualism did constitute a ‘challenge to the Churches, which has not been disregarded,’ and he drew attention to the words of Arthur Foley Winnington-Ingram, Bishop of London, at a recent Hyde Park meeting speaking about the influence of Spiritualism: ‘Many have been led astray.’ This statement appears to have been the occasion for the newspaper interview with Conan Doyle.

The Views of Arthur Duck on Roman Law in EnglandSummaryThe aim of this paper is to discuss the views of sir Arthur Duck on the influence and power of Roman Law in England up to 17th century, which he analysed in his work De Usu et Authoritate Juris Civilis Romanorum in Dominiis Principum Christianorum first published in 1652. Chapter 8 of this book seems to be an important source for the contemporary research. Duck, a legal practitioner, a politician and a D. C. L. presented a unique view on the matter. A detailed study shows that the following areas and solutions of the English legal system bear signs of the Roman influence: courts (e. g. Court of Chancery, Court of Admiralty, Court of the Constable and Marshall), lectures at the Oxford University, Vacarius school of law, early English legal writings, legal theory and science. Duck was probably the first to notice and mark the striking similarity between Roman procedure of the ius honorarium and the English equity. He disagrees with the general opinion that the Roman Law exercised no authority in England.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Transcriptional elongation by RNA polymerase II has been well studied in vitro, but understanding of this process in vivo has been limited by the lack of a direct and specific assay. Here, we designed a specific assay for transcriptional elongation in vivo that involves an artificial arrest (ARTAR) site designed from a thermodynamic theory of DNA-dependent transcriptional arrest in vitro. Transcriptional analysis and chromatin immunoprecipitation experiments indicate that the ARTAR site can arrest Pol II in vivo at a position far from the promoter. TFIIS can counteract this arrest, thereby demonstrating that it possesses transcriptional antiarrest activity in vivo. Unexpectedly, the ARTAR site does not function under conditions of high transcriptional activation unless cells are exposed to conditions (6-azauracil or reduced temperature) that are presumed to affect elongation in vivo. Conversely, TFIIS affects gene expression under conditions of high, but not low, transcriptional activation. Our results provide physical evidence for the discontinuity of transcription elongation in vivo, and they suggest that the functional importance of transcriptional arrest sites and TFIIS is strongly influenced by the level of transcriptional activation.

Abstract:
The article deals with the actual problem of cultural contact for modern historical knowledge on the example of the origin and development of the legends about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. The main purpose of the research is to reflect the understanding of historically important images and symbols of European society through the subjective ideas, thoughts and intentions of a person of the Middle Ages. The main method of research is the socio-cultural approach, focused on the relations of people of the time, characterized by cultural diversity. Christianity in the Arthurian legends of the Middle Ages was one of the elements that had a significant impact on their formation and further development. This was influenced by the early and peaceful Christianization of the British Isles, as well as the cultural and religious contact of the Celtic settlers with the population of Armorica. This article examines two branches of the development of Arthurianism, the Christian origins of the legend of the Holy Grail, as well as the influence of Christian morality and homiletics on the plot-forming motifs of the medieval chivalric novel. In the course of the study, it is traced what influence on the development of the Arthurian cycle, in addition to the ancient Celto-Welsh tradition, was exerted by the early Christianization of the British Isles and how the combination of these factors turned Arthurian into a significant cultural tradition of European civilization.

ABSTRACT: Leader actions are considered by many to be one of the major influences on an organization's culture. This paper examines actions taken by leaders at Arthur Andersen, driven by the emphasis on profit growth over audit proficiency beginning in the 1980s, that were not consistent with certain cultural features fundamental to the firm's value system in its early years. We examine the actions of Andersen's leaders in the context of Schein's (2004) theories of organizational culture, and conclude actions of the firm's leaders appear to have adversely affected the organizational culture and contributed to Andersen's eventual demise. The lessons learned from Arthur Andersen can benefit others in the profession, along with students who will be entering the profession and educators who are preparing them for future challenges.

AbstractWe consider how Antarctic seals may respond to changes in climate, realizing that anthropogenic alteration of food webs will influence these responses. The species considered include the ice-obligate - crabeater (Lobodon carcinophaga), Weddell (Leptonychotes weddellii), Ross (Ommataphoca rossii) and leopard (Hydrurga leptonyx) seal - and the ice-tolerant Antarctic fur seal (Arctocephalus gazella) and southern elephant seal (Mirounga leonina). The data analysed are from long-term censuses of Weddell seals in McMurdo Sound (1997–2006), and of Weddell, fur and elephant seals at Arthur Harbour, Antarctic Peninsula (1974–2005). After considering their responses to recent changes in environmental features, as well as projected and current changes to their habitat our conclusions are that the distribution and abundance of 1) crabeater and Weddell seals will be negatively affected by changes in the extent, persistence and type of annual sea ice, 2) Ross and leopard seal will be the least negatively influenced by changes in pack ice characteristics, although, as may be the case for crabeater and Weddell, population size and distribution may be altered through changes in food web dynamics, and 3) southern elephant and fur seals will respond in ways opposite to the pack ice species, but could also be influenced most immediately by changes in their food resources due to factors other than climate.

Abstract:
Chinese classic Tao Te Ching has been rendered into the English world overwhelmingly, but the controversial views on the translation of “Tian” (?) and “Tao”(?) are still in the ascendant. Among the diversified versions, Arthur Waley’s is highly acclaimed, however, translation analysis of historical semantic representation and comprehensive source text is far from sufficient. It is reasonable to start from the historical semantic representation of “Tian” and “Tao” in the relevant Chinese classic books, to observe and study the available diachronic and synchronic cross influence. With the assistant of general semantic interpretation and Arthur Waley’s relevant translation study, it analyzes three crucial sentences reflecting the view of “Tian”, “Tao” and their relevant content in chapters 16, 25 and 77, generalizing their culture sources, influential annotations, ideologies interplay, source and target text exposition. The translation appreciation would take on the profound comprehension to specific source text, bilingual cultural considerations, and some translation thinking, in order to evaluate the particular target text impartially in comparatively complete perspectives.

The research focuses on the influence of parenting style on the protagonist’s behavior in Todd Phillips’ movie Joker. Arthur as the protagonist in the movie is a man who suffers from mental illness which then transforms him to be a mastermind of criminal because of parenting mistake. The theory adopted in this research is proposed by Baumrind, who classifies parenting style into four broad categories: authoritarian, authoritative, permissive and neglectful styles. This research adopts descriptive qualitative method and the data are collected from the movie script. The finding reveals that authoritarian and neglectful parenting styles lead a person to become rebellious, adopting problematic behavior and mastermind of criminal and disregarded by a society. The worst effect of parenting mistakes is that the protagonist transforms himself to be a psychopath.

Abstract:
This paper summarizes the dramaturgy commonly used in Arthur Miller's seven major plays and analyzes the male desires that appeared in the features. Most of his plays are men's tragedies that show their desperate efforts and pains of being unable to become real men. This study analyzes why men in Miller's plays must fight and pay a high price. His plays consistently reveal the male bonds for success, the rejection of maternal myths, and opposing views on women. Miller portrays fathers' pain or desires for immortality by his sons powerfully. Criticizing his dramaturgy from sociological, cultural, and psychoanalytic perspectives provides a theoretical possibility to reinterpret men's desires. The unchanging faith in his play is the Adam/Eve myth based on the Old Testament, in which the reader points out Miller's male-oriented playwrights and discovers the roles of men and women who influenced him.

Abstract:
Abstract Data collected from a Doppler on Wheels (DOW) mobile radar deployed in Port Arthur, Texas, near the point of landfall of Hurricane Rita (2005) and from two Florida Coastal Monitoring Program 10-m weather stations (FCMP-WSs) are used to characterize wind field variability, including hurricane boundary layer (HBL) streaks/rolls, during the hurricane's passage. DOW data, validated against nearby weather station data, are combined with surface roughness fields derived from land-use mapping to produce fine spatial scale, two-dimensional maps of the 10 m above ground level (AGL) open-terrain exposure and exposure-influenced winds over Port Arthur. The DOW collected ~3000 low-elevation radar sweeps at 12-s intervals for >10 h during the passage of the hurricane. This study focuses on the 2–3-h period when the western eyewall passed over Port Arthur. Finescale HBL wind streaks are observed to have length scales of O(300 m), smaller than previously identified in other HBL studies. The HBL streaks are tracked as they pass over an FCMP-WS located in flat, open terrain and another FCMP-WS located near a subdivision. DOW data collected over the FCMP-WS are reduced to anemometer height, using roughness lengths calculated from DOW and FCMP-WS data. Variations in the radar-observed winds directly over the FCMP-WS are very well correlated, both in their timing and magnitude, with wind gusts observed by the weather stations, revealing directly for the first time the surface manifestation of these wind streaks that are observed frequently by radar >100 m AGL. This allows for the generation of spatially filled maps of small-scale wind fluctuations over Port Arthur during the hurricane eyewall's passage using DOW-measured winds.

The Communities that Care Youth Survey (CTCYS) (Arthur, Hawkins, Pollard, Catalano y Baglioni, 2002; Glaser, Van Horn, Arthur, Hawkins y Catalano, 2005) was used to identify drug use and antisocial behavior, and their risk and protective factors in the family, the school, the community and the individual/peers. The objective of the research was to identify the predictive role of age and sex in the drug use and the antisocial behaviour, as well as the identification of common predictive risk and protective factors. Data show that age predicts drug use but not the antisocial behaviour. The common predictive risk factors are school failure, gang involvement, attitudes favourable to and early start of antisocial behaviour. The common protective factors are social skills and moral order beliefs. Results show the relevance of considering risk and protection, confirm the existence of common predictive factors and the reciprocal influence of drug use and antisocial behaviour.

Abstract:
National Museum Wales in Cardiff houses a collection of approximately 560 fossils from the Carboniferous Limestone collected by Sir Thomas Franklin Sibly during a five-year period when he was Professor of Geology at University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire in Cardiff. Throughout his career as a geologist, Sibly authored and co-authored almost a dozen publications on the Carboniferous geology of the Mendips, the Forest of Dean and South Wales. He worked with and learned from geologists such as Arthur Vaughan (1868-1915) and Charles Lapworth (1842-1920), and himself influenced the research choices of eminent geologists such as Frank Dixey (1892-1982), Arthur Trueman (1894-1956) and Thomas Neville George (1904-1980). Sibly later became a university administrator but retained a professional interest in geology and continued some of his research. He donated rocks and fossils to various British museums and universities although it seems that only a fraction of these survives to this day.
