Full textA close study of Jean Hans Arp’s late poetry exposes the inadequacy of the traditional opposition between non-sense and sense, which is frequently used to analyse the transition from his Dada production to the poetic works of the 1950s and the 1960s. By introducing a formal and structural coherence, the poet manages to preserve plurivocity and contradiction on a semantic level. Considering the specificities of Arp’s late poetic forms, the study shows that invention and variety are as vivid then as they were during Dada Zurich, based on both innovation and actualisation of former techniques. This tension is inherent to his anthological and editorial activity as well, which is considered here as a key element of his late poetics. In his sixties and up until his eighties, the poet develops strategies aimed at constituting a reflexive work which integrates the earlier production while always avoiding the trap of (self-) monumentalisation. After 1943-1945, the relationship between Arp's poetry and reality outside the language undergoes a profound referential change. His increasing criticism of western rationalism and need for subjective expression, without returning to neo-romanticism, form the basis for a poetic discourse on the world and the possibilities of language, a “pocket cosmogony” that is both humble and demiurgic”. The latter hinges on an unwavering faith in the creative power of the poetic word and its ability to generate other worlds. This radical modernity, consciously asserted, locates Arp’s late work as an original experiment in the context of the avant-gardes post-1945, highlighting his specific itinerary within a transitional generation
Couto, Guilherme dos Santos. "A natureza dos braços espirais nucleares na galáxia ativa Arp 102B." reponame:Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações da UFRGS, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10183/70348.
Full textIn this work we studied the LINER/Seyfert 1 galaxy Arp 102B in order to unveil the nature of its newly discovered nuclear spiral arms. We present a two-dimensional analysis of the gaseous excitation and kinematics of the inner 2.5 kpc X 1.7 kpc, from optical spectra obtained with the GMOS integral eld spectrograph on the Gemini North telescope at a spatial resolution of ≈ 250 pc. Our GMOS-IFU emission-line maps display the same two-armed nuclear spiral as previously observed with the HST-ACS camera. A 8.4 GHz VLA bent radio jet correlates with the east spiral arm. Another arm is seen to the west. Emission line ratios typical of active nuclei rule out ionization by stars, leaving shocks and diluted radiation as possible ionizing sources for the gas. A knot of high gas density is observed in the northern border of the east arm, at a region where the radio jet seems to be de ected. Centroid velocity maps display a distorted rotation pattern, with blueshifts to the east and redshifts to the west. Lower blueshifts are shown along the radio jet. Channel maps show blueshifts and redshifts at the jet location (and eastern arm), being interpreted as originated in the front and back walls of an out ow pushed by the radio jet, which is launched close to the plane of the sky. The gas kinematics is well reproduced by a rotating disk except in a possible out ow region, south-east from the nucleus, where the gas shows high velocity dispersion. We estimate a mass out ow rate in the range 0:8-3:8x10-2Mʘyr-1, which is just somewhat higher than the mass accretion rate to the active nucleus. We propose a scenario in which gas has been recently captured by Arp 102B in an interaction with Arp 102A, settling in an inclined disk rotating around the nucleus of Arp 102B and triggering its nuclear activity. A nuclear jet is launched close to the plane of the sky and the line of nodes, pushing the circumnuclear gas and giving origin to the nuclear arms. The knot of high velocity residuals can be interpreted as another (more compact) out ow, with a possible counterpart to the north-west.

In response to pathogen infections, plants modulate a series of signaling pathways that are mediated by hormones, such as SA, MeJA and auxin. These pathways may result in gene expression alteration that is important for mitigating the effects of infection. This transcriptional reprogramming is regulated by transcription factors. bZIP’s transcriptional factors are important regulators in plants. Some of their members are involved in defense responses against pathogens. This study describes the functional characterization for GMbZIP105 transcriptional factor and GmARP15g protein during response against fungal infection. For that, it was used the fungus that causes ASR – Asian soybean rust. In addition, in silico analysis using clustering methodologies were applied to identify potential DRM1 / ARP family groups. The expression profiles of these groups were evaluated in response to treatment with hormones auxin and MeJA and during pathogen infection in soybean. The proteins GmbZIP105 and GmARP15g interact in two-hybrid yeast assays; in addition, they present the same transcriptional profile in response to treatment with hormones MeJA and auxin and are responsive to pathogen. GmbZIP105 induces the expression of genes related to photosynthesis, while GmARP15g interacts with one of the PSII proteins. These results suggest a functional relationship between both proteins in which GmARP15g probably modulates the localization or activity of the transcription factor GmbZIP105.

Full textThe educational practices/tactics of Escola Fábrica de Rendas Arp, in Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro, are the study object of this dissertation. The institution is presented in its organizational pedagogical, socio-political/cultural dimensions, with special attention to the constructive process of the student’s identity who attended it. The investigation is supported by the contributions of Michel Foucault, with regard to power and by Justino de Magalhães, as to institutional actors and their actions. The empirical research was done in public and private files. The latter, personal objects from ex students are pointed out, like copybooks, pictures and school reports. Some interviews were also taken. The “arpiana” pedagogy is characterized and consolidated under the direction of the head teacher that dedicated thirty years of her work to the school. This investigation contributes to the History of Education in Nova Friburgo, trying to reveal the relations between the institution studied here, the public politics and a teaching tradition socially built.
Pang, Kun. "Collaborative HARQ Schemes for Cooperative Diversity Communications in Wireless Networks." School of Electrical & Information Engineering, The University of Sydney, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/2123/2559.
Full textWireless technology is experiencing spectacular developments, due to the emergence of interactive and digital multimedia applications as well as rapid advances in the highly integrated systems. For the next-generation mobile communication systems, one can expect wireless connectivity between any devices at any time and anywhere with a range of multimedia contents. A key requirement in such systems is the availability of high-speed and robust communication links. Unfortunately, communications over wireless channels inherently suffer from a number of fundamental physical limitations, such as multipath fading, scarce radio spectrum, and limited battery power supply for mobile devices. Cooperative diversity (CD) technology is a promising solution for future wireless communication systems to achieve broader coverage and to mitigate wireless channels’ impairments without the need to use high power at the transmitter. In general, cooperative relaying systems have a source node multicasting a message to a number of cooperative relays, which in turn resend a processed version message to an intended destination node. The destination node combines the signal received from the relays, and takes into account the source’s original signal to decode the message. The CD communication systems exploit two fundamental features of the wireless medium: its broadcast nature and its ability to achieve diversity through independent channels. A variety of relaying protocols have been considered and utilized in cooperative wireless networks. Amplify and forward (AAF) and decode and forward (DAF) are two popular protocols, frequently used in the cooperative systems. In the AAF mode, the relay amplifies the received signal prior to retransmission. In the DAF mode, the relay fully decodes the received signal, re-encodes and forwards it to the destination. Due to the retransmission without decoding, AAF has the shortcoming that noise accumulated in the received signal is amplified at the transmission. DAF suffers from decoding errors that can lead to severe error propagation. To further enhance the quality of service (QoS) of CD communication systems, hybrid Automatic Repeat-reQuest (HARQ) protocols have been proposed. Thus, if the destination requires an ARQ retransmission, it could come from one of relays rather than the source node. This thesis proposes an improved HARQ scheme with an adaptive relaying protocol (ARP). Focusing on the HARQ as a central theme, we start by introducing the concept of ARP. Then we use it as the basis for designing three types of HARQ schemes, denoted by HARQ I-ARP, HARQ II-ARP and HARQ III-ARP. We describe the relaying protocols, (both AAF and DAF), and their operations, including channel access between the source and relay, the feedback scheme, and the combining methods at the receivers. To investigate the benefits of the proposed HARQ scheme, we analyze its frame error rate (FER) and throughput performance over a quasi-static fading channel. We can compare these with the reference methods, HARQ with AAF (HARQ-AAF) and HARQ with perfect distributed turbo codes (DTC), for which correct decoding is always assumed at the relay (HARQ-perfect DTC). It is shown that the proposed HARQ-ARP scheme can always performs better than the HARQ-AAF scheme. As the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the channel between the source and relay increases, the performance of the proposed HARQ-ARP scheme approaches that of the HARQ-perfect DTC scheme.
