Abstract:
Abstract The longlasting process of transformation of the armed forces, as well as the reduction of staff resulted in the loss of certain capabilities. In times of transformation, the different structures of the Bulgarian Armed Forces, led by the desire to preserve their most important capabilities, namely the combat ones, are forced to lay off mainly parts of their maintenance and support units. In order to compensate for these lost capabilities, the armed forces resorted to the use of outsourcing services for the repair and maintenance of armament and military equipment. This article studies and analyses the use of outsourcing services for the maintenance and repair of equipment and armament available in the structures of the Bulgarian Armed Forces.

The focus of attention with regard to “child soldiers” has tended to be on abducted children or those forced or coerced into fighting. When asked, however, many children and young people themselves say that they volunteered. Moreover, when negotiating the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on involvement of children in armed conflict, some governments claimed the right to continue to recruit volunteers under the age of 18 and indeed still do so, although others have raised their minimum age for recruitment.

Abstract:
Abstract Achieving victory in nowadays armed conflicts by using of conventional military forces seems more and more difficult. Military solutions are not satisfying and used civilian-military effort still needs many improvements. So-called irregular warfare requires more regular or conventional capabilities than is usually necessary to win in regular warfare. The question is how to adapt armed forces for the nowadays irregular environment. How to educate, train and deploy armed forces? How to create a reliable tool of military power for using in irregular warfare?

Abstract:
The article deals with the interpretation of the term "armed forces" in the context of the current legal system of the Czech Republic. The authors propose to distinguish between the armed forces in the institutional concept and in the functional concept. The essence of the solution is the interpretation of Section 3(1) of the Armed Forces Act (No. 219/1999 Coll.) in the functional concept, i.e. in such a way that the armed forces are understood to include soldiers assigned to the Ministry of Defence, military schools, the Military Police and the Military Intelligence. Another solution could be to add a paragraph to the Armed Forces Act stating that "The provisions on members of the armed forces shall apply mutatis mutandis to soldiers on active service assigned to the Ministry of Defence, military schools, the Military Police and the Military Intelligence." The aim of the article is initiation professional discussions about the issue in question, as well as indications of directions as to how it would be appropriate to solve the matter.

Abstract:
Although feminist scholars agree that there exists a systemic relationship between masculinity and militarism, the exact contours of that relationship are debatable. Most feminists argue that as a primary goal, the women’s movement ought to seek approaches for the abolition of militarism, rather than using women’s participation in the military as a means of enhancing gender equality. Despite admonitions about the dangers of pursuing gender equality through military service, feminists must also weigh these concerns against women’s advances within the military and the use of the military in peacekeeping and humanitarian operations, both of which are essential to the Women, Peace and Security agenda. This article therefore turns a critical feminist lens on theories of military re-gendering. I explore whether military organizations that have traditionally valorized militarized masculinity can be transformed—both at an individual and systemic level—to embrace an egalitarian iteration of masculinity and contribute to a more peaceable international system. To examine the possibility of regendering in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), I review 17 interviews that I conducted with members of the CAF from 2017-2018 using theories of military regendering. My analysis indicates that servicemembers are engaging in critical examination of the military’s gender culture, and their position within that culture. By critically engaging with questions about the relationship between gender and militarism, military personnel may be participating in the incremental—and fragile—process of improving the gender culture of the CAF.

Abstract:
To assess possible morale and recruiting problems that might be associated with changing the military policy against admitting or retaining homosexual practitioners, a national systematic area-cluster sample of 4,340 adults and a Dallas sample of 842 were given a questionnaire concerning (1) feelings about nudity before homosexuals and heterosexuals, (2) military service and kind of discharge, (3) sharing communal facilities with homosexuals, (4) having a homosexual commanding officer, (5) having to depend upon a homosexual while under attack, (6) whether a change in policy would affect advice regarding joining the military, and (7) their opinion of current military policy. Consistent with other studies on the issue, 31% of homosexual versus 4% of heterosexual men reported less than honorable discharges. About three-quarters of the sample reported that, when disrobed, they were averse to being seen by homosexuals. About two-thirds of the men who had served, a majority of men who had not served, about a third of the women, and a minority of homosexuals felt that homosexuals should be excluded from or discharged from the military.

Abstract The permanent structured cooperation in the security and defence policy has been introduced through the Lisbon Treaty. It considered an opportunity for countries that are members of the EU to cooperate more tightly in the security and defence domain. Abstract:
This study examines the effects of transformational leadership on subordinates’ extra effort in the unique case of the Swiss Armed Forces’ militia system. The transformational leadership style of 201 superiors who were perceived as outstanding was examined in a first study using the German version of the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ-5X). Relationships of transformational leadership with subordinates’ extra effort were found to be differentially moderated by “command structure” depending on whether the subordinates were militia personnel or military professionals. For military professionals, all components of transformational leadership on the part of lower-ranking superiors had a positive effect on subordinates’ extra effort. For militia personnel, only the interaction between “command structure” and idealized influence increased subordinates’ extra effort. A second study of 51 platoon leaders supported the augmentation effect postulated by transformational leadership theory.

Abstract:
The existing separate arms theory and the theory of the Logistics of the Armed Forces as components of military science lose their functional purpose as partial theories in modern conditions of operations (combat actions). The article proposes a unified theory of logistics of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, based on the existing theories of armament and the logistics of the Armed Forces, based on the general laws and established consistent patterns, trends, principles, forms and methods of the use of the logistics of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The objective function of the logistics system of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is formulated, which is to achieve compliance of the capabilities of this system with the predicted volume of tasks of the logistics. In order to implement this compliance it is necessary to ensure the convergence of requirements and capabilities at all levels of logistics management. The purpose of the article is to determine the main provisions of the new unified theory of logistics of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine taking into account modern forms and methods of conducting operations (combat actions), requirements concerning the formation of a unified logistics system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and logistic support, created management bodies, forces and assets of military units (formations) logistics of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The assessment of the functioning of the Air Forces logistics system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is proposed on the basis of the stated views on the logistics theory of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by assessing the set of real capabilities of each subsystem that is the part of its structure and system as a whole. At the same time, the assessment of the quality of the logistic support of the military units (formations) of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine should be related to the level of implementation of the potential capabilities of the logistics system when solving problems of each subsystem at the stages of combat training, unblocking and operational deployment, preparation and conduct of operations (combat actions), restoration of combat capability of troops (forces).

Abstract:
The foundations of the organization and functioning of the modern armed forces, especially in the light of the emerging global security paradigm, have been the subject of many scientific papers in the past period. The same applies primarily to highlighting global security challenges and general assumptions related to organization, management and command and control in the system of armed forces of members of the NATO alliance with an emphasis on the US Armed Forces as the representative and most important member of the organization in question. In addition to the above, it is necessary to descriptively present possible challenges and experiences related to the present limitations in the management system of the modern armed forces, as well as perspectives, i.e. the further direction of development and the specific role of state administration bodies in a very important state and social segment. The basis of the complete elaboration within the subject scientific work is on the general characteristics of the position and functioning of the armed forces in modern democratic systems and the established organizational and management mechanisms of Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina as the only legal armed force in Bosnia and Herzegovina whose full legality and legitimacy is established within the framework of the Dayton Peace Agreement, more specifically in Article IV (Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina).
