ALOHA algorithm can’t prevent collision much effectively, the process of anti-collision is longer while the amount of tags plunged collision is numerous, and sometimes the problem about estimating mistakenly arises. Binary search algorithm, which identification efficiency is higher, the problem about estimating mistakenly can’t arise, but its delay tima is more longer, security is short. The amelioration algorithm, return binary search algorithm can identify tag more effectively and rapidly, identifying time and the amount of tags is the relation of line form. The significance is very momentous that vast goods are identified, traced and managed by this amelioration algorithm.

Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics (NCTM 1989) assumes that in grades 9–12 all students will have access to graphing calculators, that every mathematics classroom will have a demonstration computer available at all times, and that all students will have the opportunity to use computers in mathematics. Teachers must start now to implement the many technologies currently available and prepare for the explosion of technology to come in this decade. In this article we address some questions about technology that are sure to arise as we begin to implement the spirit and vision of the Standards. Our examples are drawn primarily from the use of graphing calculators in advanced algebra and beyond, but the questions are typical of those that arise with other technologies and other mathematical content.

Abstract:
Whilst it is common in much discourse around contemporary musical practices to emphasise the differences between digital and acoustic ways of making music, Simon Waters’ discussion of the Performance Ecosystem as an analytic perspective argues instead for a heightened sense of continuity (Waters 2007). This article lends support to this argument by developing an ecosystemically situated account of our relationships with technology and processes of skill formation. It is argued that this sense of continuity is justified, but that where differences of experiences do arise these are not, as sometimes supposed, an essential characteristic of digital technologies. On the basis that much of our skill formation consists of tacit knowledge, it is suggested that further discussion on how particular circumstances and skills arise would be revealing. Two possible headings for such discussion are suggested in the form of ‘Agility’ and ‘Playfulness’.

Abstract:
This thesis aims to analyze how different temperature deviations affect the components of wind turbines. A study of the temperatures in several different components was carried out to get a clearer picture of how these affects operational reliability. By trying to link, for example, extreme values of temperatures to possible alarms and downtime in the wind power plants, the hope is that this study will be able to contribute to safer and more maintenance-free wind turbines in the future. The 12 wind turbines that have been evaluated in this study are localized in southern Sweden. The time period for the collected data extends over 6 years. In the thesis, an analysis has been carried out with the help of the computer program Matlab to examine different types of data collected from the components in the wind turbines. The data was plotted with the help of various functions in Matlab and with the help of mathematical equations. The data was then observed ocularly by the authors, which led to the discovery of different connections between temperature variations in the components and different error codes. The generator bearing was the component that was found to have the highest correlation between temperature deviations and specific error codes related to various yaw-errors, which can be explained as error codes that occur when the wind turbine fails to adjust itself to the wind. An analysis has also been made to determine whether there was a temperature-related upward trend in any of the components in the wind turbines. This was carried out with the help of various standard deviation calculations and calculation of the mean temperature value of different components. The standard deviation in this case describes how much the temperature of each component varies from the mean value. It turned out that there was such an upward trend for the Generator Bearing and Generator Phase 3 components. Some turbines also turned out to have a more distinct upward trend than others

Abstract:
Drug re-engineering is an effective method for engineering existing products in alternative dosage forms and with enhanced pharmacokinetics. Insulin for the management of diabetic symptoms is an ideal candidate for re-engineering. Current subcutaneous therapy results in low patient compliance and is ineffective in meeting the physiological need for post-prandial insulin. Implementation of dose titration for more efficient blood-glucose management is also inconvenient and uncomfortable. Inhaled insulin is presented as a superior alternative to current therapy. The lungs offer excellent access to the circulatory system. Aerosols suspended in inspired air may deposit on lung epithelia and be available for systemic absorption. To evade the defense mechanism of the human respiratory tract, particle sizes have traditionally been minimized to achieve necessary aerosol performance. Recent developments indicate that more efficient performance augmentation may also be achieved by decreasing the bulk density of powders and modifying surface characteristics. Light and fluffy powders with rough surfaces experience much higher drag forces within an airstream. The Atomized Rapid Injection for Solvent Extraction (ARISE) process is a unique precipitation platform devised by incorporating a rapid injection technique for energetic solution delivery into supercritical fluid (SCF) media to effect recovery of previously dissolved pharmaceutical compounds. The quasi-instantaneous delivery of solutions alleviates the drawbacks of the use of capillary nozzles or micro-orifices, gradual elution and mixing controlled precipitation kinetics in existing SCF precipitation techniques. Most importantly, the energetic release of solution into SCF media effects supersaturation over a much larger spatial volume and promotes the homogeneous precipitation of low bulk density powders. ARISE processed insulin powders displayed characteristics that were highly influenced by anti-solvent conditions and powders of different qualities were obtained as a function of anti-solvent pressures. At lower anti-solvent pressures, powders of narrow particle size distribution were achieved, an indication of homogeneous supersaturation levels within processing. Span, the index of size distribution was as low as 0.991. At higher anti-solvent pressures, supersaturation rates were increased while mixing efficiencies decreased, resulting in powders of wider size distribution, and powder bulk densities as low as 0.01 g/ml. Low bulk density insulin displayed in-vitro respirable fractions as high as 78%.

Abstract:
Globalisation is increasing, reason for people working more and more cross-culturally and with the use of computer-mediated tools. The field of research on both of these individual topics is existent and has thoroughly been discussed. Nevertheless, the integration of these topics in the field of research is still scarce and relatively unknown. The purpose of this study is therefore to understand the communication issues that arise between people from different cultures when interacting through textual computer-mediated communication tools, and how these issues are dealt with. These communication issues and their consequences will therefore be identified and investigated, in order to get a better understanding of what this entails. A qualitative study has been done to fulfil this purpose. Data has been collected through nine semi-structured interviews with people from different locations around the world. With this way of data collection, the focus lied on extracting the perspectives of the individuals on these topics. Thereafter the data has been analysed according to seven steps for a grounded analysis, in order to create a theory. The results of this study have shown that there are mainly three communication issues arising from the use of textual computer-mediated communication tools across cultures. These issues are named as linguistic barriers, cultural differences in communication, and the absence of nonverbal communication. It has shown that these issues have a significant impact on this type of communication, causing several consequences. The direct, negative consequences coming from these issues are the deterioration of professional relationships and a decrease in productivity. Next to these consequences, the study has shown that people also tend to develop certain counterstrategies against these issues. That is so to say, ways of minimising the negative impact that the issues have on the communication.

Thesis, KTH, Skolan för industriell teknik och management (ITM), 2021. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:kth:diva-297866.

Full text
Abstract:
There is a digital transformation that is currently occurring in today’s workplace to create a more agile, productive and smart workplace (Ulukan, 2020). The occurrence of the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated this transformation as employees were forced to shift to working remotely (Schwarz et al., 2020). This shift has revealed a wide range of positive and negative effects on individuals and organizations. Thus, exploring how to integrate remote work properly is paramount for organizations when creating a smart workplace. Change Management includes models that can handle change by considering the two aspects of: the individual and the organizational (Prosci, 2020). Therefore, this thesis explores how organizations can use change management to address the demands arising with the integration of remote work by conducting a qualitative case study in collaboration with a company in the TMT (Technology, Media, Telecommunication) industry. The findings of this thesis demonstrate that a complete shift to remote work will not be sustainable in the long term due to the lack of social interactions which is considered to be essential according to the empirics provided in this thesis. Also, the findings show that organizations will need to provide more flexibility for varying between remote work and in-office work for the employees in the future. Moreover, managers will need to include workers more in the planning process and be more transparent towards their teams about the changes that will be required to create a smart workplace. Also, managers will need to listen to their teams' expectations on how they want to balance remote work and being at the office.

Abstract:
Previous studies have examined the use of computer-based activities as instructional and learning tools in science classrooms. Studies have examined the use of various hardware and software devices as well as student attitudes and student achievement after working with computer-based activities in science classrooms. Recently, a working pedagogical model that incorporates computer-based technologies into science instruction has been developed and studied in British Columbia schools. The model is called Technology Enhanced Secondary Science Instruction (TESSI). Student attitudes and achievement have been studied under this model, but little research has addressed the practical issues involved in the implementation of computer-based activities from the perspective of an innovating teacher. This study presents a teacher-researcher action research investigation of the issues that a teacher experiences in the use of computer-based activities while developing the TESSI model for the Chemistry 11 and 12 classrooms. Action research methodology provides a useful tool for analysis of practical problems important to professionals. Teachers, practitioners of the art of teaching, may employ action research to study their practical questions and secure a voice in academic literature. Using a teacher-researcher framework to examine problems related to their practice, teachers can describe and interpret cases from an "insider's" perspective.

Taiwan government has invested a huge amount of R&D funding on university research each year. Usually, the most practical and effective solution for introducing the academic research into industry is by means of the so called academia-industry collaboration. Therefore, a technology transfer office is needed to act as a bridge between academia and industries in a modern university. It runs a very important role for providing the learned reports and leading factors from university to a suitable industry. Meanwhile, it also makes feedback mechanism with response the R&D direction as well as industry requirements. However, an active devotion to research and innovation has become the key success factor in collaboration. It will be a complex task and procedure to process the R&D reports, patents applying, technology transfer and contracts concluding. The simple WORD processing and EXCEL files modeling are no longer enough to satisfy the present job demand. Therefore, it is indeed necessary to adopt the Business Process Management (BPM) strategic planning with the Architecture of Integrated Information System (ARIS) model. Thus, the academia-industry collaboration performance will be promoted both of the university and industry. This study discusses upon the operating model in technology transfer office with focusing on the operating flow processes. The BPM strategic planning approach is also considered to construct the proposed information system. In addition, the ARIS modeling is used to describe BPM on four perspectives including organization, data, function and process. It has been developed As-Is and To-Be Model methods to fabricate a reference model for technology transfer office for many universities. After the proposed information system is completed and ready to use, some valued-added data analysis reports will be generated. It may assist and analyze the R&D planning, patenting, technology transfering, and many valuable statistical reports. Furthermore, some charts and diagrams for the university technology transfer office to study and improve performance, strategic planning and designing for the future academia-industry collaboration are also provided.

Built upon the Internet and enabled with various information technologies, Cloud Computing provides the networked earth with virtualized resources, dynamic expandability and scalability, and innovative applications and services. In recent years, manufacturing industries attempt to utilize the cloud infrastructure for their business needs. Thus, trading partners are able to share information through cloud server for collaborative product development, manufacturing process management, and value-added services. Focusing on Cloud Manufacturing, this study applies Group Technology to build the material classification and coding system to facilitate data sharing among business partners. Furthermore, a business process modeling methodology, ARIS, is adopted to design the inter-organizational business processes for developing integrated trading platform and connect with cloud server to monitor database. With the coding system, cloud server and integrated trading platform, trading partners are thus able to enhance their security for collaboration and flexibility and reacting effectiveness to respond to unexpected events. Lately, owing to the awareness of energy conservation and personal health, biking has become increasingly popular. This study will take electric bicycle industry as an example to demonstrate the applications of Group Technology, cloud server and ARIS to design the product coding system, database storage and integrated trading platform in the cloud manufacturing environment.

The distribution center (DC), with a wide range of logistics functions, plays a center role in the supply chain. Particularly, to meet of the goals of supporting the customized markets demands, shortening the length of distribution processes, and lowering the cost of logistics operation, the third party logistics service provider offers the services covering almost all operations in the supply chain from the manufacturers to the consumers, which are receiving, warehousing, packing, re-manufacturing, picking, sorting, delivering, and information processing etc. The major issue in this research is the distribution center. The study dealt with the problems and the solutions that an enterprise may meet when the company tries to introduce the RFID technology into its logistic operations. By means of literature review and case studies, this research attempted to locate the problems encountered when adopting RFID technology by the enterprise in replacement of the barcode technology in the logistic operation processes. Due to the importance of logistic information process, we built an information process model by ARIS to simulate the logistics process which is adopting the RFID technology. Hopefully the result of this study could be used as a reference by any enterprise in using RFID technology. The following conclusions were drawn as a result of verifications through the operation process and case study in this research: (1)Using eEPC method from ARIS to design information flow chart in case of introducing RFID technology into logistic operations;(2)Studying about the using frequency , allocation methods and operation styles of RFID tags applied on various storage unit (such as pallets, cartons, merchandise, …);(3) Studying the effect between the allocation method and the locations of the RFID readers in the warehouse;(4) Explaining the conversion of GTIN Code into EPC-96 Code;(5) Identifying the information modules and functions that need to be rectified in its information system when adopting RFID technology in logistic information system by case study;(6) Setting up the guidelines of RFID application and the EPC Global information system framework in case of introducing RFID technology into the pharmaceutical logistics. Abstract:
With any remote access technology, problems can and do arise. Some of the common problems with remote access technologies are security, broken links, and privacy. Most remote technology is relatively stable, but unfortunately, problems occur from time to time. It is important that the library has someone monitor the technology to make sure there are no problems. Users become frustrated when trying to access a resource from off-campus only to find they cannot.

This chapter presents issues that may arise in human-centered research in health care environments. The authors first discuss why human-centered approach is increasingly employed to study and to design health care technology. They then present some practical concerns that may arise when conducting qualitative research in medical settings, from research design, to data collection and data analysis, and to technology design. Many of these concerns were also experienced in their own human-centered field studies conducted in the last few years. The authors conclude the chapter by illustrating some of these issues using their own research case study that investigated nurses’ information flow in a hospital ward.

Abstract:
E-commerce is the retail phenomenon of the twenty first century and also – although it attracts less publicity - constitutes the medium within which many commercial transactions take place. This chapter will examine legislative initiatives in the United Kingdom and European Union that are designed to address some of the legal issues and problems that arise from on-line transactions. The main goal is to promote e-commerce both by means of conferring rights on consumers – as epitomised in the Distance Selling Directive that gives rights to inspect and return goods ordered on line- and give some businesses engaged in the sector a degree of immunity from some forms of legal liability. Key here is the notion of an “information society service” and provider as specified in the E-Commerce Directive. A further issue that arises in many e-commerce transactions is that consumers are able to contract with a supplier located in a different jurisdiction. Booking hotel accommodation is a frequently used example. Questions need to be resolved in this case which legal system and which courts will govern the transaction.

Abstract:
This chapter informs teacher educators and individuals involved in teacher professional development about the tensions that frequently arise when K-12 teachers integrate technology into their classrooms. Suggestions for how individuals can help teachers confront and overcome these challenges are presented. In order to describe the various tensions that exist, findings are organized around concerns that are related to the innovator (e.g., the teacher), the technological innovation, and the contextual factors that arise from the environment in which teaching and learning occur. To describe ways to assist teachers as they confront the challenges of technology integration, recommendations are framed around the Cognitive Apprenticeship Model (CAM) and the four dimensions that constitute a successful learning environment: content, method, sequencing, and sociology.

Abstract:
Abstract With the 14nm technology node becoming a reality at today's state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing plants and the 10nm node actively being planned for, device structures have shrunk well beyond the minimum conventional transmission electron microscope (TEM) sample thickness: 50-100nm. This paper addresses the challenges in TEM sample preparation of sub 22nm three-dimensional test structures. As semiconductor device technology continues to shrink and become more complicated with the addition of three-dimensional device integration, unique sample preparation challenges will continue to arise. This opens the door to novel solutions for these problems like the one presented in this paper: an issue that arose where TEM projection effects interfered with proper characterization of a finFET test structure.

Abstract:
Abstract As silicon manufacturing processes move to smaller feature sizes, new silicon fault isolation and debug challenges arise. This paper presents a methodology for silicon fault isolation/debug that allows for simultaneous probing of multiple locations on the die using static infrared emission logic state imaging. Recent tool enhancements leading to more efficient fault isolation and debug are reviewed. Cases are presented from debug of 65nm products showing how this methodology was used to achieve very low throughput times on a variety of complex new failure mechanisms.

Abstract:
With the need for rail systems to provide long distance and highly reliable operations, problems that could arise should be quickly detected and addressed such that they do not become major issues. If undetected, sudden component faults can result in costly and difficult repair scenarios, and in the worst case, derailments, which can be catastrophic if they occur in populated areas. One such problem, Bearing Burn-off, can result in significant damage to the cars as well as to the rail infrastructure, often before the symptoms can be detected by rail crews and in most situations by wayside mounted infrastructure. A system developed by IONX for railroad operations is designed to monitor rail car bearings to detect potential burn-off conditions before they arise and before they become destructive. This system is comprised of a Central Monitoring Unit (CMU) and Wireless Sensor Nodes (WSNs) which continuously monitor bearing temperatures as well as the current ambient temperature. The application of various algorithms not only conducts trend analysis to anticipate burn-off events, but also reports events at predetermined temperature limits to provide early warning and immediately actionable feedback to locomotive engineers. With these alerts, the driver or train controller can then decide on the appropriate action to be taken and destructive consequences can be avoided saving operational and infrastructure costs. For this pilot study, a total of ten freight cars and fifteen locomotives were equipped, operated, and monitored for an initial three month period. This paper presents preliminary operational results for these tests demonstrating the benefits of predictive condition monitoring systems in real-world applications.

Abstract:
We examine the young elderly’s technology readiness in order to understand the propensity to adopt and use technology for personal use. We use the Technology Readiness Index 2.0 as segmentation basis to segment a sample of mainly young elderly individuals. Our aim is to find meaningful segments within this demographic group regarding their technology readiness, and to contrast the segments with previous research. Our findings based on 538 retirees revealed a similar segmentation profile as found within working-age populations, and a surprisingly different profile than previous research with a mature target group. We identified five distinct segments portraying the young elderly as diverse technology users, ranging from ‘pioneers’ to ‘hesitators’. The findings give arise to discussion regarding the impact of age on the technology readiness of individuals and the importance of age as a predictor of technology use. We propose that commonly held views on age as an inhibitor of technology use are becoming outdated as the diffusion of technology reaches a certain level of maturity in a market.

Abstract:
Nowadays, social media platforms are frequently being used on the Internet. When the users create an account for these platforms, they are required to accept the data privacy policy. With the approval of the data policy, major problems may arise such as observing every activity of users on the platform, violations of security and protection of personal data, and sharing user data with third parties for commercial purposes. In this regard, it is significant to examine the privacy policies of social media platforms in detail. In this research, we examined the privacy policies of the five most popular free applications on the communication section of the Google Play Store on January 30th, 2021. The privacy policies of these applications were analyzed with the content analysis method, and the research aims to reveal the area of utilization of the data that the users provide, with or without the permission of the user.

Abstract:
The impact of the recent exponential increase in complexity of digital VLSI circuits has heavily affected verification methodologies. Many advances toward verification and debugging techniques of digital VLSI circuits have relied on Computer Aided Design (CAD). Existing techniques are highly dependent on specialized test patterns with specific numbers increased by the rising complexity of VLSI circuits. A second problem arises in the form of large sizes of injecting circuits for correction and large number of SAT solver calls with a negative impact on the resultant running time. Three goals arise: first, diminishing dependence on a given test pattern by incrementally generating compact test patterns corresponding to design errors during the rectification process. Second, to reduce the size of in-circuit mutation circuit for error-fixing process. Finally, distribution of test patterns can be performed in parallel with a positive impact on digital VLSI circuits with large numbers of inputs and outputs. The experimental results illustrate that the proposed incremental correction algorithm can fix design bugs of type gate replacements in several digital VLSI circuits from ISCAS'85 with high speed and full accuracy. The speed of proposed Auto-correction mechanism outperforms the latest existing methods around 4.8x using ISCAS'85 benchmarks. The parallel distribution of test patterns on digital VLSI circuits during generating new compact test patterns achieves speed around 1.2x compared to latest methods.

Abstract:
Ship ballasting and de-ballasting are critical to a ship’s stability, and a major part of ship and port operations. Here, we examine the current procedures and potential issues that can arise when a quick turnaround in port is required. Through time-based modeling of the ship’s systems, new methods were used to analyze the feasibility of each scenario as well as ensure the systems were operating optimally. After rigorous testing, a new approach was developed to decrease time in port, increase system reliability/safety, and improve overall efficiency. Paper published with permission.
